I think it looks a tad cartoony and I'm not sure I could ever take him seriously running around Starling City. I struggled with Barry running around Starling City and I like the Flash. So I think it just is them not really belonging there. I never thought Ray belonged in Starling City and I've found his storylines to be forced at best. I think if he had shown up on The Flash I would have bought more into it. It's a tone thing.
Thanks. I'm not anti-Ray or anything but I just never felt his story fit here. It was like "Quick we need conflict so let's plug this guy in here." I really think Ray could have had a much more cohesive storyline had he appeared in a show that matched his tone (The Flash). Even the tragic backstory seemed a bit...either underutilized or at least like a throwaway comment.
It does seem like he will have none of those pesky superhero concerns like what if someone figures out who I am and hurts the people I love. I wonder if he'll open each fight sequence with "Hi I'm Ray Palmer." He's sort of recognizable being the head of a major company. I mean his name is on the building.
I really like the costume. It's a bit Iron Manesque but since they are going tech based on Palmer I love it. I like the bullet proof helmet but wish he would cover his eyes even though secret identities are joke in this universe.
Has anyone actually figured it out legitimately? I'm wracking my brain but I'm pretty sure everyone has been told. Well I guess Moira sort of figured it out but then Oliver was sort of obvious about it to her. Everyone else has required someone informing them OR Oliver removing his mask.
I can just picture the epic fail of it. I think John is a much better representation of balancing both sides of his life. I think Ray will fail simply because he'll be relying too much on the suit. Just like a mask does not make the Canary, a suit does not make a hero.
Oliver removes his hood on streets now, Laurel is running around in a costume leaving finger prints, The Flash actually showed his speed in front of a mugger.. They don't take secret identities seriously at all
Well to be fair, the majority of the residents seem to be a tad oblivious. I mean the Flash was pretty blatant but the city needed an actual callout by Cold to believe in him. It was a little far-fetched.
Dig represents the life that Oliver can have if he lets himself and Maseo represents the life Oliver will lead if he continues living with the choices he's made.
It looks like by ep 18 the suit is not ready. They might be getting the final components in the Flash crossover. So most probably we weill see the debut of the suit during the finale war or the previous episode. There is not much time for him to fail and get back up. It is like the Roy situation last year. If such a growth has to happen it will in his spin off series or next season where some of his action will cause some damage.
Exactly, wearing an armor doesn't make you a hero, and I think Laurel's wake up call was when the Alderman died. They need to understand what it really means to be a hero. The sacrifices that comes with it and how your decisions can affect people's lives.
But Digg isn't a masked hero... Digg is what Oliver is gonma be in 6 years. Right now the only way for Oliver to understand things is to have red alerts crashing in his forehead. Ray will represent a real person being a masked hero to the world.
So what is Ray supposed to do? Can he fly? Does he shrink? Does he shoot stuff? I don't get what the Ray and the suit are for other than to look like IM. It does take guts to rip off IM though because (at least to me) RDJ owns that role. He is Tony Stark IMO. I still don't see what Ray is supposed to bring to the show. Other than being NotOliver. And now that he has the suit what will he do with it? I can't see them actually having him shrink on Arrow. Not that they couldn't have powers but a shrinking guy might be a bit difficult to incorporate in their normally more 'realistic' setting. I could see it on the Flash because that show is more comic booky but on Arrow?
I think that might be the problem. Ray, as far as I've seen, has very little of his goals based in actual reality. He had a terrible thing happen to him but at the same time he has no idea what it is like out there. He's had little training as far as we can see and has these grand ideas of saving the city and the people he cares about. I sort of feel like he's a man playing dress up right now. Maybe down the road I'll change my mind but right now I don't think the character is there yet.
Well, he isn't like Laurel or Roy that are two superheroes than only relay on the physical side. When who have an exo-suit that gives you strenght and shots laser beams... Well, you don't need to much fighting training. It's like Tony Stark... He wasn't a fighter... He has a suit.
I really like Wells on The Flash. He is wonderful as the recurring all time villain for the show. Unlike Malcolm in Arrow who's actions this season does not make sense to me even though I love JB and his portrayal of Merlyn. His elaborate scheme by killing Sara and send Oliver to fight Ra's in hopes of Oliver winning doesn't make sense at all as Oliver can hardly defeat Malcolm.
Regarding Palmer I think in the coming episodes we will see him with different characters and hopefully we can appreciate him more. But they need to put a stop to the romance aspect of Ray/Felicity relationship.
What happens when the suit isn't enough? I think it's a mental thing rather than a physical thing. I don't think Ray has that ready yet. He's so focused on the endgame, he doesn't consider what it will mean when he puts the suit on.
I don't mind Ray as much as others but you are right it is the tone thing. Also keeping him completely separate from everyone except Felicity has not helped either. Their scenes look like they don't belong to Arrow universe where as Felicity seemlessly fit in with everyone else.
Aside from that, i'm still saying this has more Blue Beetle(even Iron Man) vibe than Atom.
The suit alone made me want the freaking spin off!!! It's awesome! But yeah, this exo-suit is more like the one Ted Kord uses that gives him more strenght and, like Iron Man, it will have shrinked weapons(that's the nod to Atom, i guess...).
I don't think so... and tbh, i bet it's gonna be used to show Oliver that you can be a superheroe and have a life. He doesn't have a secret identity... he merged both sides.
That's suppose to be Oliver's journey this season.
I sort of want to title those sections the "Palmer Technologies" show. It's like those little cartoons they sometimes put in the middle of old shows. They don't fit with anything else but there they are. I sort of struggle with the show telling me how compatible Ray and Felicity are and I just can't see it. I literally try to remove myself from my ship and watch the scenes. They just feel forced to me. Then on top of that we don't see him interact with other characters.
I've usually applauded the show on the natural quality of the show. I think events happen in the right places and deaths/survivals are excellent story telling moments. I thought Maseo and Tatsu saving Oliver fit. I thought Malcolm sending Oliver to meet Ra's fit the character. I think this necessity to tell us how conflicted Felicity is and how necessary Ray is, feels forced.
I have the same time buying Wells on The Flash. I actually cringe when he enters the scene because he doesn't fit. It's not the team he doesn't fit, it's the show. I struggle with it every week.
I agree. I think Ray just sort of figures if he has this suit then he can save the city. It's not that simple and I want to see him knocked down just for that reason. I want him to get back up but I think he needs the wake-up call just like Laurel needed it (getting sliced by the attacker). It's not all running around and saving lives.
I don't know. That 'plexi' thing on the helmet is really bothering me. I guess there would be a force field or something in play but still, somehow it feels incomplete while the body part could have used a bit of simplifying... It just does not click like Oliver or Barry's costumes do.
For me I always toggle around considering is Wells a bad guy or is he a good guy. I decide one thing and the next scene forces me to consider the other option. He is a mystery I really like.
Such a beautiful suit! I love how high tech and movie like it is. Also, it's a step up from the New 52 suit IMO. Can't wait to see Ray go to Central City with Felicity to get Cisco's help in trying to perfect the suit in episode 18 of Flash!
I disagree on that. Laurel is all about strenght and fighting techniques... Ray would have blown the rapist of 3x11 with a laser beam.
Tony Stark didn't know how to fight when he became Iron Man because that it's not their strenght. He may realize at some point that the suit doesn't make the man like Tony did in IM3, but the development is diferent since he is guarded under that suit.
Well, he will suit up for the first time in episode 15 Jajaja You have 9 episodes still of Arrow, at least 1 of Flash and maybe a spin-off to develop his character...
I think it might be his presence with Caitlin, Cisco, and Barry. I think he detracts from those scenes. I think when it is just Barry/Wells or Cisco/Caitlin/Wells it works. I struggle with the foursome.
Aparently Brandon Routh said the suit will appear first on 3x15 and then on Flash's 1x18 i wich Cisco was gonna make some changes. I guess that's not the final model then...
That's why I actually like Merlyn's actions. Their the actions of a insane psychopath who for the first time in his life is backed against a corner with no way out and being the dick he is would rather send Oliver (who must have thought had some chance) to possibly die to save himself than face certain death against Ra's (I doubt he'd give Malcolm a trial by combat, given he violated Ra's tenets and Ra's knew he did it and greatly wanted to personally kill him).
I wouldn't be opposed to a spin off with Atom but they'd need to have a good supporting cast, The Flash seems to be made up of characters with easily distinguishable Arrow counterparts.
I meant applies to Laurel as in she is playing dress up. She doesn't know what she is doing (skills wise) and her motivations aren't convincing to me. If Sara was a cars saleswoman Laurel would be working in a Volvo dealership?
Hmm. When you put it that way it makes sense. I think they needed to have more dialogues to explain us his motives. They simply dragged this and honestly I was confused by the end of all that. Malcolm never gave off the vibe that he was backed into a corner. A little more explanation would have helped.
It was just a joke. A joke I made because many people automatically associate armored suits like this with Iron Man, due to IM's mainstream popularity. A lot of people have made the comparison. I've seen many people making a Robocop comparison as well.
It makes the costumes totally pointless and adds to the cheese factor(in a bad way). If they're not using the costumes to hide their identities there is no reason to have them.
Weirdly enough I feel like his believability is slipping. I love the character and Cavanaugh. But he just keeps getting more overtly shady. But I do hope he is Zoom (since that would explain why he's studying Barry and why he's a hero- so he can become him, and just would work well for me since Cavanaugh looks so much like Gustin- which is awesome as Zoom at least in the comics got surgery to look like Barry- which would just be cool if that was intentional reference in regards to casting.
Zoom gets surgery to look like The Flash? Damn! More and more I hear about the Flash comics more and more I am amazed. 31st century resurrection, plastic sugery... It's nuts.
That is why I am annoyed by the costumes in this show. They don't use it to cover their identities. So do they use it as a symbol? Then why do Laurel and Roy get to have a mask and costume and Diggle does not? Is he not hero enough? Why create original characters if they won't be given same credibility as the comic book characters with legacy. I know the first thing everyone would say to this is Diggle is in the comics now. But he does not have the history like Arsenal or BC and that is reflecting in the lazy writing of the show.
I like the suit fine, but the helmet is kinda throwing me off. I also agree with everyone else - the Atom does not fit particularly well in Arrow, especially now that I've seen the suit. I hope he either gets that spin-off, somehow moves to The Flash, or just is done with soon. I just don't think he fits the show in the long-term, even though I'm starting to warm up to him after these last two episodes.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
They should make him look like Iron Man a little more!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it!
ReplyDeleteDon't get my wrong I think this costume looks cool as, but I just don't see it fitting well into the Arrow-verse! It just doesn't feel right!
ReplyDeleteI've been overly critical of the last two outfit reveals so, since this thing has no buckles or straps, I'm giving it a pass. Thumbs up.
ReplyDeletefits the Flash a lot better IMO
ReplyDeleteBrandon would look good in a garbage bag! This suit just seems like an Iron man rip off!
ReplyDeleteBut shouldn't there be a break on Feb 25th?
wich I would say the spin-off should be: the Iron Man show we never were blessed with
ReplyDeleteI think it looks a tad cartoony and I'm not sure I could ever take him seriously running around Starling City. I struggled with Barry running around Starling City and I like the Flash. So I think it just is them not really belonging there. I never thought Ray belonged in Starling City and I've found his storylines to be forced at best. I think if he had shown up on The Flash I would have bought more into it. It's a tone thing.
ReplyDeleteHehehe! Not an IM fan. But people should get what they want. I honestly don't see an ATOM show happen.
ReplyDeleteMaybe maybe for a summer spot.
Well said. His whole story line just seems out of place and distant from the rest of the show.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
ReplyDeleteI hope that glass mask can become tinted. Otherwise it's okay but generic looking. Nothing screams "oh that's the atom!" at least to me.
ReplyDeletethere's just something about this show and the costumes that I don completely like...they're not bad but not as good as they should be.
ReplyDeleteI pretty much feel the same way.
ReplyDeleteSo he's not hiding his identity?
ReplyDeleteIt does seem like he will have none of those pesky superhero concerns like what if someone figures out who I am and hurts the people I love. I wonder if he'll open each fight sequence with "Hi I'm Ray Palmer." He's sort of recognizable being the head of a major company. I mean his name is on the building.

ReplyDelete"And I have a lot of money!"
Has anyone actually figured it out legitimately? I'm wracking my brain but I'm pretty sure everyone has been told. Well I guess Moira sort of figured it out but then Oliver was sort of obvious about it to her. Everyone else has required someone informing them OR Oliver removing his mask.
ReplyDeleteAll i see is Robocop.

I read that he will wear it for the first time on 3x15.
ReplyDeleteHow come I missed it? In ep 15. Cool. At least some things are moving in the show.
ReplyDeleteSo what is Ray supposed to do? Can he fly? Does he shrink? Does he shoot stuff? I don't get what the Ray and the suit are for other than to look like IM. ReplyDeleteFrom Flash's episode 1x18 via Gran Gustin's instangram!

I agree completely and the same applies to Laurel, I was just thinking the same today. She is playing dress up.
ReplyDeleteHappens to the best of us lol
ReplyDeleteWhat happens when the suit isn't enough? I think it's a mental thing rather than a physical thing. I don't think Ray has that ready yet. He's so focused on the endgame, he doesn't consider what it will mean when he puts the suit on.

ReplyDeleteI like it - except for the transparent face visor.
ReplyDeleteMIND.F**KING.BLOWN!
ReplyDeleteAside from that, i'm still saying this has more Blue Beetle(even Iron Man) vibe than Atom.

Agreed. Still the guy could identify him. It was an unnecessary scene.
ReplyDeleteAwesome and it looks like we might see Flash, Atom team up.
ReplyDeleteEspecially now that RDJ isn't doing solo IM movies anymore the time for a show ripping him off is perfect. Also: the Flash is doing more than fine.
ReplyDeleteAnd let`s not forget: Ant Man opens next year, who is Atoms Marvel counterpart
I agree. I think Ray just sort of figures if he has this suit then he can save the city. It's not that simple and I want to see him knocked down just for that reason. I want him to get back up but I think he needs the wake-up call just like Laurel needed it (getting sliced by the attacker). It's not all running around and saving lives.
ReplyDeleteThe Ray/Felicity thing does seem out of place.
ReplyDeleteI agree with JB/Malcolm this year. It does seem disjointed.
I think I don't find Wells villainous enough. He comes off a bit cartoony to me.
I don't know. That 'plexi' thing on the helmet is really bothering me. I guess there would be a force field or something in play but still, somehow it feels incomplete while the body part could have used a bit of simplifying... It just does not click like Oliver or Barry's costumes do.

ReplyDeletetrue
ReplyDeleteAparently Brandon Routh said the suit will appear first on 3x15 and then on Flash's 1x18 i wich Cisco was gonna make some changes. I guess that's not the final model then...
ReplyDeleteCool, i like it, except the helmet(or visor) that should be more like Iron-Man.
ReplyDeleteThis episode gotta be bout the League of Assassin's and possibly Malcolm flashback episode.
ReplyDeleteI think Malcolm's flashback episode it tomorrow's 3x12. 3x15 i think has flashabcks about Ra's and young Nyssa.
ReplyDeleteso Routh is confirmed to cross over to the Flash?
ReplyDeleteHowever the new design we get here is clearly inspired after the movie suit IM had
ReplyDeleteExactly My first thoughts also !
ReplyDeleteThat's why I actually like Merlyn's actions.
ReplyDeleteGiven he's basically Professor Zoom bad. Bad all the way.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be opposed to a spin off with Atom but they'd need to have a good supporting cast, The Flash seems to be made up of characters with easily distinguishable Arrow counterparts.
ReplyDeleteI meant applies to Laurel as in she is playing dress up. She doesn't know what she is doing (skills wise) and her motivations aren't convincing to me. If Sara was a cars saleswoman Laurel would be working in a Volvo dealership?
ReplyDeleteLooks expensive. I like it.
ReplyDeleteWell according to 1x17 of the Flash it'll be completed and aided by Cisco and Star Labs. So makes sense.
ReplyDeleteThe suit looks very well-designed & organized-Hate the helmet. However i am still on the fence about the character itself.
ReplyDeleteHilariously enough Palmer and the suit itself predate Iron Man.
ReplyDeleteInnocent until proven guilty. I know he is a bad guy but he is very believable when he tries to pass on as a good guy.
ReplyDeleteHmm. When you put it that way it makes sense. I think they needed to have more dialogues to explain us his motives. They simply dragged this and honestly I was confused by the end of all that. Malcolm never gave off the vibe that he was backed into a corner. A little more explanation would have helped.
ReplyDeleteSo that would be the complete version? I like it
ReplyDeleteThe suit looks awesome! I really hope it shrinks eventually
ReplyDeleteThe visor thing isn't working for me but the rest of it is freaking awesome!
ReplyDeleteMaybe the visor can be shaded or something?
ReplyDeleteYep, they're filming the episode right now. He's been posting pictures with Grant Gustin. It's him and Felicity who crosses over in episode 17
ReplyDeleteAWESOMESAUCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteas much as i love Arrow you're right, i mean i think because it's very tech-y and not vigilante-like right?
ReplyDeleteIt was just a joke. A joke I made because many people automatically associate armored suits like this with Iron Man, due to IM's mainstream popularity. A lot of people have made the comparison. I've seen many people making a Robocop comparison as well.
ReplyDeleteIt makes the costumes totally pointless and adds to the cheese factor(in a bad way). If they're not using the costumes to hide their identities there is no reason to have them.
ReplyDeleteHe looks good on it, lets see how it goes in the arrow verse.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt. But still lol.
ReplyDeleteYep (him and Rickards which makes sense as she would be able to connect Team Flash and Star Labs in a justiable way)
ReplyDeleteWeirdly enough I feel like his believability is slipping.
ReplyDeleteAnd my reply wasn't solely towards yours. Thought you could answer me, but guess not.
ReplyDeleteI really like it! Can't wait to see Ray with the Atom costume in The Flash! Looks very promising!
ReplyDeleteArrow has way too many heros. Hopefully Black Canary and Atom won't be regulars
ReplyDeleteZoom gets surgery to look like The Flash? Damn! More and more I hear about the Flash comics more and more I am amazed. 31st century resurrection, plastic sugery... It's nuts.
ReplyDeleteThat is why I am annoyed by the costumes in this show. They don't use it to cover their identities. So do they use it as a symbol? But he does not have the history like Arsenal or BC and that is reflecting in the lazy writing of the show.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the head part. Can't they make like the Flash's cowl.
ReplyDeleteI just had a thought. That face shield could be a display screen too.
ReplyDeleteYeah it's messed up. There's even a clone of Bart Allen.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the visor is going to be shaded once he is in action and will act as a computer screen like that of Iron Man.
ReplyDeleteThey just need Superwoman :D
ReplyDeleteI like the suit fine, but the helmet is kinda throwing me off.
ReplyDeleteSuits looks fine, I just hate the character so far....
ReplyDeleteI really don't like this guy :/
ReplyDelete
