Hey all.
First, thanks to the many, many, many — MANY — people on Tumblr and Twitter who’ve reached out to ask me about if, when, and how the amazingly talented and simply amazing Jessica De Gouw would be returning to Arrow.
And thank you for being patient with me as I continued to promise this update.
I have good news, bad news, and wait-and-see news.
First, the bad news…
We’d been discussing an episode that would return Helena Bertinelli to Arrow for Season 3, but it didn’t come together for a variety of reasons having nothing to do with Jessica or her willingness to return. As most of you know, despite doing 23 episodes a season — god help me — we still somehow manage to run out of room to tell certain stories (e.g., Felicity’s parents). Unfortunately, Helena’s episode in Season 3 was one of those casualties of our lack of real estate. We value Jessica and the character she created too much to waste both of them on a story we can’t give proper attention to.
Now for the good news…
Tomorrow, Helena/The Huntress will make her return to Arrow in comics form as part of our ongoing Season 2.5 series. Unlike her previous appearance in 2.5, this time the Huntress’ return is not a hoax, not a dream, and not a hallucination.
The story is in canon and will feature — spoiler alert — the first “on screen” meeting between these two ladies since Ep. 1x17:
Helena’s return with begin (full disclosure and spoiler alert in the last panel of tomorrow’s Arrow Season 2.5, Chapter 13. Available for (shameless plug alert) pre-order here:
(These next group of chapters are also probably the most Olicity-oriented stories we’ve done for Season 2.5, as we’re laying the pipe towards Oliver and Felicity’s — spoiler for those who haven’t seen Ep. 3x01 yet — first date.)
As for the wait-and-see news…
Arrow has officially been picked up for a fourth season and we’ve still got a kick-ass idea for a Helena story.
Thank your for your continued attention and watching. You guys are awesome.
Best,
Marc

So after saying last season that Felicity's parents would be more fully explored this year, they've not done that? Ugh.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see her joining Arrow's Suicide Squad when she returns.
ReplyDeleteHer mom is explored this season and is coming back soon, but we'll hopefully find out about her dad only next season.
ReplyDeleteI kind of get what they mean. Although I didn't dislike her second stint like I did the first, I really care for things other than Helena tbh.
ReplyDeleteSo 2 season after they firs promoted it at SDCC2013
ReplyDeleteYeah, I know they've explored with Donna but it was more her father that I was interested in. Frustrating.
ReplyDeleteI'm sad and glad at the same time. Sad she won't appear this season but glad they won't force her return into this season. Looking forward to see her return next season hopefully.
ReplyDeleteSo now we should bomb Marc with Laurel crossing over to Central City to meet The Flash and help Dinah. ^_^ (expecting some bitchin for this)
no no helping Dinah. She broke Quentins heart.
ReplyDeleteMalcolm broke Q's heart, Laurel just decided it shouldn't break in October but in February.
ReplyDeleteYou were talking about Dinah. That is Laurels mother.
ReplyDeleteWho gives a shit about the comics.
ReplyDeleteI thought you speak Laurel breaking Q's heart. Dinah just moved one, no baddy.
ReplyDeleteHe is? How did you know?
ReplyDeleteYou said Dinah. BC on the show is known as Laurel by everybody.
ReplyDeleteIt was posted on twitter by one of the people following the filming. And we also get Central City cops showing up on Arrow 3x18. So it must be connected to that.
ReplyDeleteDespite the fact that characters look nothing like the actors and I hate reading in all caps; I'm really enjoying the 2.5 comics. I always thought that Helena would help Laurel train in some capacity, maybe next season. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing her in the comics.
ReplyDeleteI thought you meant Laurel shouldn't help cause she broke Qs heart last week.
ReplyDeleteI was talking about Dinah. You mentioned Laurel & Dinah in one sentence. *shrugs shoulders*
ReplyDeleteEverybody surrounding Arrow does since they make money from it. So does the Flash.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's obviously a choice, tbh. They have spent A LOT of time on Ray Palmer this Season even when in Season 2 Barry was around for only 2 episodes and mentioned in another 3.
ReplyDeleteThey could have given us an update on her instead of, for example, the Dj story or Laurel's 3x09 story with Dinah, wich was pointless.
I really want to see her team up with Laurel and Felicity in the future.
I hope we will get there. Maybe with a possible HIVE introduction next season.
ReplyDeleteThey have ran out of episodes last season also. So they should have learn their lesson before season 3 started. There was talk about this being more of an intimate season but it became crowded as hell. So they decided to take on several different hero puts on a costume origin stories. I am sorry but if you can fulfill your promises dont make big announcment. I rather be surprised then disappointed.
ReplyDeleteEh, sorry, I really couldn't care less about Felicity's parents. Probably why it doesn't bother me.
ReplyDeleteWell i dont give a shit about stalker boy Ray.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying that I'd mind it, I just don't see why it's so important that we need to get upset if it doesn't happen this season. They said that they planned on showing both parents, but it didn't happen. I don't see the big deal or why it's worth making a big fuss over about them 'teasing.'
ReplyDeleteThings change over the course of a season. The storyline evolves and goes places they might not completely expect a year or six months in advance.
I guess maybe I should ask why her father matters? What's so interesting about the idea of Felicity's father that makes it upsetting if we don't get to him this season? Do people think he's going to be revealed to be someone important, or are they just interested in Felicity's family life or what?
I am glad Huntress is not returning this season. It is already chaotic. Regarding Felicity's father also I would like that to be given proper attention in season 4 than introduce the story line and then drop it forever like they did with Diggle amd HIVE. I hope in season 4 they won't be greedy for more spin off options, introduce major players and ruin the development of main cast.
ReplyDeleteI still don't understand why they decided to introduce Ra's, ATOM and Ted Grant all major DC characters along with Merlyn being a regular. ATOM should have been kept for next season or included like Barry. As for a love interest option for Felicity a regular dude would have been more than enough for this season.
yesssssss she was sooooooo sexy
ReplyDeleteHe's supposed to be a rival for Oliver, showing him how to be a hero, run QC and be in a relationship, blah blah blah.
ReplyDeleteWhy isnt she on the suicide squad, she will eb better than cupid.
ReplyDeletewhatever reason ray still a lame character lol
ReplyDeleteA rival whom Oliver is actually not that concerned about because he has other big problems *rolls eyes*. I like Ray but an origin story while leaving Digg behind is not something I want to see.
ReplyDeleteThey could have wraped both her parents in 1 episode. We are talking about a storyline that was promised at the begining of S2 and it keeps getting delayed. They wouldnt have to make it the A story of an episode, but a simple B story with a tiny bit of comedy. Which honestly this season needs. This season is depressing as it is.
ReplyDeleteAnd with them delaying it, giving only hints and crumbs it just increases the theory they are making him a villain. And every new male character appearing on Arrow is gonna be rumored to be Felicitys father.
once ray get his suit working they need write him off the show because his suit is like having superpowers there's no superpowers on the show
ReplyDeleteA rival with whom Oliver only had one scene. All Ray has taught us thus far is that to be a hero you should do the following:
ReplyDelete1. You decide to steal a company to use its technology.
2. You trick a girl into helping you hack into said Company's mainframe.
3. Stalk the aforementioned girl so she would work for you and help you with your suit without telling her.
4. When you get stuck ask the girl for help. If she refuses manipulate her emotionally and give her your crepiest googly eyes so she would help you.
I DESPISE him.
ReplyDeleteI might not like how they used Ray but I don't agree with any of your above points. You know I like Ray. So agree to disagree.
ReplyDelete1. He did not steal the company. He bid for the company legitimately and he is way more qualified than Oliver to run QC
2. He didn't ask for help in a round about way. He was already hacking into said mainframe. He was scouting her for the job. It was Felicity's fault she gave him the tools to make his job easier. It's true he used it even though he knew Felicity would never give him that if she knew what he was hacking into. But she volunteered the info without asking.
3. Yep. Some of his methods was creepy to get him to work for her. But head hunters usually wine and dine potential candidates, give them gifts to get them as employees. The show could have done a better job of it
4. He always respected her when she said no. Come on. She said she would never help him with the suit in ep. 10. The only thing he said in ep.11 was at the precinct where he said "see why I need a suit?" and that at the time of the attack the only thought he had was to protect her. How is that emotional manipulation?
I am not a Ray fan. And I hated ep. 3x07. The romance angle is ridiculous. But to say Felicity was emotionally manipulated by him is over kill. She is a smart driven young lady. She took those decisions to not help and then help Ray with ATOM suit. Let's not take her agency out of the whole thing.
If there is an ATOM show they should have given him the suit there. If there is no ATOM show and he is continuing here then they should have taken some time like Roy before giving him the suit.
ReplyDeletewith his reckless spending I wont be surprise there another takeover at the Company because stocks goes up and down and he's too busy on his suit
ReplyDeleteOf course we can agree to disagree.
ReplyDelete1. He stole the data to undermine Oliver in his presentation. And I did state before that he's more qualified than Oliver. That's not the issue here.
2. Why would he even mention hacking if he wasn't fishing for a tip from her?
3. Head hunters track people's phones and buy a multimillion dollars company to get people to work for them and then say "most girls would be flattered if I spent that much money on them"? (I'm paraphrasing but that's basically what he said)
4. Because a week ago he was doing this for his dead fiance and now suddenly he's doing it for her, and before they went to the precinct he was giving her the puppy dog eyes to get her to help him fix the chip. "He always respected her when she said no." really? I know you were talking about her saying no to helping him with his suit (even if I don't agree) but aside from that he's pushy and he NEVER takes no for an answer.
The romance angle is ridiculous AND insulting because normally Felicity (who I agree is smart and driven and has so much self respect) would call him on his offensive behavior but for the sake of the love triangle they are pretending that he is charming and she is flattered!
We do know (thanks to The Flash) that Oliver will get QC back. Whether if it's because he failed because he was busy with the suit or because he's leaving Starling (hopefully); the Company won't stay his for long.
ReplyDeleteThat Felicity/Olicity stans for you, always entitled brats, they want it and they want it now.
ReplyDeleteand Wayne Enterprises?
ReplyDeletehow do you know I never hear this when was this release
ReplyDeleteIts not superpowers its tech. As for Ray haters try again, your reasons for hating him are senseless. Whether you like it or not, he is not going anywhere.
ReplyDeleteHe has got many people who like him too
So he isn't Mr Perfect, guess who also inst Mr Ollie Queen.
ReplyDeleteits still super even its tech
ReplyDeletei'm one of them, he rocks
ReplyDeleteon The Flash pilot after-credits scene
ReplyDeleteThe Huntress on The Suicide Squad hmm interesting but isn't she a hero in the comics?
ReplyDeletesomething tells me dr. Wells have something to do Oliver taking the company back because he wants the future he wants to stay
ReplyDeleteBut her full name is Dinah Laurel Lance
ReplyDeleteI think the problem here is we are both looking at the same scene in different ways. It happens. Especially because the writers went about it in a wrong way trying to make Ray super cool.
ReplyDelete1. Yes he did went about it in an underhanded way. But the information is legit. The company did suffer when Oliver was CEO. Takeovers usually has lot of information gathering in under handed ways.
2. IIRC he didn't mention hacking. He asked for a component or processor whatever and then Felicity asked him why he needed the same. She could have simply sold him the item. I still don't think he went there thinking he will get ideas from her to hack into QC. I think he went there to see her and feel her out whether she would want a job.
3. As I said creepy methods especially buying the company she was working for. If the writers were going for suave Tony Stark lite they didn't land it.
4. I forgot about the scene before the precinct. The thing about him fighting for Felicity is what I got from that scene was when the attack happened that particular moment the only thing he thought was saving Felicity and not Anna. I could get behind that. This whole mission is for Anna but when someone is in danger he put himself in the line of fire for them. That was the theme of the episode. Dead are dead we are fighting for the living.
I agree he is pushy and he has no boundaries. I always like to see what they were going for. I think that was someone like Tony Stark but somehow it doesn't work here. We can picture Tony walking into Felicity's home in the morning like Ray did if she were working for him. It's difficult to do what RDJ does with Tony Stark and not make it offensive.
It's funny, you keep talking about haters and hating and yet you're the one going around attacking people!
ReplyDeletePeople with glass houses...
For some reason that deal is tied to Barry's future. So it could change.
ReplyDeleteWhen Wells view the future newspaper there's an article in the left bottom corner about a merge between Queen inc. and Wayne industries.
ReplyDeleteThe writers were wrtiting Ray as a shady character on purpose to make him mysterious. That backfired very nicely!
ReplyDelete1. The way he did is still illegal so I'm sticking with my story. He stole the Company in some way.
2. He said that he was trying to breach into a firewall. You know what was really annoying in that scene? When Ray was trying to pay for the communicator he bought, she told him what the device was and when he told her that he knew what it was she looked surprised. She sounded a little condescending in that scene and I hated it, like no way he's smart enough to know what he's buying or that he could be using it in a smart way. Then she helped him commit a crime (hacking) in a better way then said "happy hacking"! To a complete stranger! What if he was hacking the mainframe of a hospital or a bank? What if he was a cop? The whole scene was a mess.
3. I'm not sure if it's the writing, the acting, or a combination of the two, but Tony comes off as a lovable and charismatic jerk but Ray just sounds like a stalker d-bag.
4. In my opinion it was a plot to further the romance angle, convince Felicity to help him and so she would take his words later and convince Laurel to put the mask back again and so she (Felicity) would come back to the team. Which is bad enough that Diggle wasn't the one to convince her. So agree to disagree.
Pretty much every Ray/Felicity scene is offensive in some way ESPECIALLY when they try to romanticize it or act like it's only social awkwardness. And when he brags about how much money he has it just makes me want to punch him. What was the point of him going to the meeting when the mayor was "giving" Brick the Glades? To tell a criminal that he has a lot of money? Too bad Brick didn't rob him.
I really wish they did promote them more cause I had no idea there was actually a comic series.
ReplyDeleteBut in the show they call her Laurel. And her mother is called Dinah.
ReplyDeleteI was about to say this, like wtf is that, F Seasons 2.5...
ReplyDeletethat's not evil is it?
ReplyDeleteit look like he trying pull off what prime try in the comics
ReplyDeleteSo, you couldn't find time for scenes exploring Felicity's parents and Huntress and instead we get a hundred scenes with "Atom"? Someone should explain to him he has priorities wrong. This just makes me hate that character more.
ReplyDeleteWe know Roys dad is dead we knew that in season 1. No Felicity doesnt need everything this season. But there wasnt a big announcment they were introducing Roys family was there? If you make announcment stick to it otherwise no need to make any announcments.
ReplyDeleteHe lied, his family is a blank slate.
ReplyDelete
