Arrow’s world will continue to grow this season, as IGN has learned Doug Jones will make his debut as DC Comics villain Deathbolt. He’ll be seen in the nineteenth episode of Season 3, entitled, “Broken Arrow.”
In DC comics, Jake Simmons/Deathbolt, first introduced in All-Star Squadron #21 in 1983, was a villain with the power to manipulate electricity. In Arrow, Jake Simmons will be a metahuman with the ability to harness and weaponize plasma energy.

A metahuman in Arrow.. Will he arrive from Central City and be follows by Joe and Cisco?
ReplyDeleteProbably a villian that Ray can deal with. 3x19 is the episode that will have some focus on him.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. Can't wait to see it happen.
ReplyDeleteNow they should just work on BC cry!
Now my Hannibal Bates theory for 3x18 isn't that much crazy! Especially with the BTS photos of Oliver, Laurel and Roy(as Arsenal) running to Quentin and Roy(as Arrow)! ;)
ReplyDeleteNOPE.
ReplyDeleteNah, they need to keep metahuman powers off this show. She should have some tech like Sara did - if they start giving people in Starling City powers, that makes Oliver obsolete on his own show.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping Starling is just a stop off for this dude as he flees Central City. Barry's super speed during crossovers and maybe the occasional villain are about the only powers I want to see on this show.
ReplyDeleteWhere is this bts so it seem like some frame up to take down the arrow
ReplyDeleteI didn't say it has to be a metahuman cry but I would be happy with a good tech device. The tone of the show really doesn't serve powers but a they should come up with an interesting idea.
ReplyDeleteSo that's why Cisco and Joe comes to Starling City. Quentin's mind is going to be blown.
ReplyDeleteI still think the device is more than enough for Arrow. Once in a while a meta human coming from Central City is different. To have a full fledged meta human on Arrow would undermine Oliver.
ReplyDeleteI agree. But they should work on it! ^_^
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why Laurel is not taking the device more often. It gives her a very good advantage. I think they forget that device most of the time. In season 2 also Sara used it what 3 times?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I don't get that either. It was really smart of her to take it the first time she went out, because she didn't know what she was doing, and it allowed her to have an upper hand. She should've busted it out at least once during that mess with Brick.
ReplyDeleteWhile I personally would love to see a fully realized Canary Cry on the show. The sonic bombs are fine too, if a little unfocused. They have a basis in the comic books too after all.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they can somehow merge the two versions?, Create some form of sonic device worn close to the throat that would generate the "real" Canary Cry (one able to be used as an offensive and directable weapon), but still tech based and not a metahuman power.
They'd need some way to nullify it for Oliver, Roy or anyone else who is with her though, or they'd be similarly disabled.
ReplyDeleteUgh, keep the metahumans to The Flash please.
ReplyDeleteDeathbolt, not Deadbolt.
ReplyDeleteYou're probably right. The title being called "Broken Arrow", it could have to do with Ollie needing help, and that comes in the form of Ray Palmer. I wonder, though, if Deathbolt's powers will "expand" in this episode and he will start to take in the energy in Atom's suit, thus Ray will also need Ollie's help and the two will work together. Interesting how fast Atom will have worked with both Barry and Ollie.
ReplyDeleteDeadbolt sounds like he would have a metahuman power to control locks....
ReplyDeleteIt will either be the same device Sara had or Laurel's "canary cry" is just like a battle cry.
ReplyDeleteHahahaha! Imagine what the costume could look like.
ReplyDeleteI was against bringing supernatural element into this show before season 3 but the way they explained oliver's magical resurrection,i'm very glad to see the creatives are coming to their senses.
ReplyDeleteTo those saying Laurel should NOT get the Canary cry cause of Oliver......BYE FELICIA!!! Her character should not be penalized for him.
ReplyDeleteThat canary cry is part of her character. Been with her for years. Besides even in the comics she didn't use it often. She relied on her fighting skills.
The costume version of the Pont des Arts bridge perhaps? And he would crack horribly lock pun based one-liners.
ReplyDeleteIt would be fine Arrow needs a reboot , the flashbacks are getting boring at this point , we dont need them every episode.
ReplyDeleteThe villains are also a bit soso , no one close to Ras and Merlyn , Brick was a villain for 3 episodes so its safe to safe hes not a one and done.
BC getting her powers would be awesome but the show needs to evolve its so depressing at times , no wonder most people seem to like The Flash more.
Barely 2-3 times, the first couple of times she appeared and in that mess of Bird of Prey ep.
ReplyDeleteI mean it's a signature sign, hopefully Felicity and Laurel will find a way to make it work.
I really hope that happens. It's a signature sign!
ReplyDeleteThey could implant some devices in her police sticks or something.
Maybe Cisco can help a bit when he stops by.
It doesn't necessarily. Just means he needs to get smarter and more planning based. Hey if Batman can take on Metahumans and super-powered aliens then so can Oliver with prep. (That being said the Arrow is nothing compared to Batman in combat).
ReplyDeleteI've been there! Hahahaha. I also saw the episode of Late Late Show when Craig Ferguson went there. Marvelous week of shows.
ReplyDeleteThat would be one tough cookie for Arrow, though. Deadbolt could easily get into the Foundry and mess everything up. He could even lock up their suit containers so Ollie and Ray couldn't suit up, lmao.
Someone posted it and said(you have to take his/her word) that it was aparently the same scene...
ReplyDeleteDoesn't want a crutch?
ReplyDeleteTo me? Yeah, it does. Any time Oliver/Roy/Diggle/Thea/whoever is having a rough go of it in a fight, I'm gonna be wondering why Laurel doesn't step in and give them a sonic blast. I'm already having difficulty reconciling the fact that Barry exists and has super speed and they don't call him to help more often. I'm fine with the metahumans stoping by SC every once in a while because I don't believe they'd all stick to CC, but as far as heroes on this show? I want them to all remain strictly human.
ReplyDeleteAnd forget about prison or even the metahuman prison, he would unlock everything and cause the biggest prison break.
ReplyDeleteIt's one thing to not want a crutch - she doesn't have to use it all the time. But to have a tactical advantage and not take it when she definitely needs it doesn't make sense.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, Cisco is a good bet too. Maybe he could repurpose the tech in Pied Piper's gloves. They were sonic based as well.
ReplyDeleteThe reason would be the sonic blast would kill most people even meta humans.
ReplyDeleteTrue, but at least it improves her fighting.
ReplyDeleteHow can the device be a crutch. They just need to use it in the beginning of the fight then they can all brawl to their hearts content.
ReplyDeleteBesides the Canary Cry as would I. As Oliver isn't Bruce Wayne. He'd be potentially overshadowed by badass.
ReplyDeleteThey should use it more often. It's a cool device and its effects are fun to see.
ReplyDeleteThen what would be the point of giving it to her? Just have her use the things Sara had that broke windows and hurt ears and could actually be useful, and made sense in the world they've built over 2+ seasons.
ReplyDeleteIsn't the device directional. If she holds it in front of her the people who stands behind her wont be affected. I thought it was like that otherwise her ear drums would burst every time she uses it.
ReplyDeleteNice idea. We should join the writing stuff. We are good at this. ;-)
ReplyDeleteWell it basically knocks down anyone in its area. Thus a crutch. It's like Barry solely using his speed to beat opponents instead of learning how to fight or fight stragtegically. In a situation while his speed or that cry failed or didn't have it, they could to put it bluntly be right f*cked.
ReplyDeleteHmm, don't think they've actually explored if it's directional. Most of the times the device has been seen on the show they just threw it on the ground for wide spread.
ReplyDeleteCome on she does not have to use it every time she goes out like that scene in the alley where she had one on one confrontation with a guy. But when there are more bad dudes like trying to save the aldermen not using the device is stupid. It's not like all the bad guys loose consiousness after the device goes off. It just pains their ear drums a bit and they are stunned. She still has to take out all the guys by fighting them.
ReplyDeleteDeadbolt would be the great villain of them all.
ReplyDeleteI recall reading an article that said something about Laurel getting tech savvy during her time as a superhero. I recall there being some discussion somewhere about it - how Ray getting clued in on things might bring Palmer Industries into the picture as far as providing tech to help everyone out - maybe Laurel's going to have something similar to Sara's little canary bombs but more like what you proposed?
ReplyDeleteStill though. It's smart no doubt, but it could be too helpful. Plus you can use that around allies or herself a log, since it could backfire and hurt herself/or Team Arrow. It's not like the actual Canary Cry which while far more powerful can at least be directed.
ReplyDeleteAs if we need a meta human to get inside the foundry. Only requirement for it is you be a villain or learn to punch people.
ReplyDeleteSo she could understand fully why it hurts and is wrong to take a life. What it does to you, and why it should not be done. Plus it's really useful against powerful foes.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure this thing cannot be directed. If it cannot then wouldn't her ear drum be blasted every time she uses the device? I need to see season 2 episodes again.
ReplyDeleteAll the people saying it ruins the "grit and realism" are straight up retarded. It's a show about a guy in green fighting criminals with a bow and arrow, it was never realistic to begin with. I for one welcome and want more meta humans, Brick was awesome.
ReplyDeletePretty sure it just blasts the area with a sonic wave.
ReplyDeleteSo they can use help from STAR labs or Ray Palmer and tweak the device to be more like canary sonic cry. I would never want a regular on Arrow to be a meta human ever.
ReplyDeleteLaurel already killed a guy last season, so she should know all that by now. Eh, I just don't see the point of bringing in a metahuman power that's SO powerful she can't use it all the time, just because of comics. They should just stick with adapting that power to fit into the show so it's actually useful in context, kind of like they've already done.
ReplyDeleteActually, the only requirement is for you to have working hands. At this point, even eyesight is optional, haha.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah. But that was more or less on purpose. An accident as a result of her power would be a interesting development. But that's a great thing about the cry. It works within Arrow's reality, can't always be used, but in a pinch will save Laurel if she needs it. Plus good development could be done regarding control and use of it.
ReplyDeleteEven if she was. She couldn't use the cry always. Due to it's power.
ReplyDeleteYeah and where are those fighting skills in the show?
ReplyDeleteBut unlike his comic book counterpart. Brick on the show wasn't a meta human
ReplyDeleteShe's just starting out, comic book version didn't start out a fully trained badass either and got knocked around a bit in the beginning as well. They have mentioned her training will continue with new teachers after Ted Grant.
ReplyDeleteOf course she didnt start out fully trained badass, but the argument its in the comics so it must happen on the show its tiring. Then we could also say off with Roys hand because comic canon.
ReplyDeleteI merely wanted to explain that she's just in the beginning of her journey, the fighting skills will come with experience and training.
ReplyDeleteRoy loosing his arm was really late in the character's long history, but I don't have a problem with it.
Well, she was also indirectly responsible for getting that alderman killed, but all it took for her to get over that was a little pep talk from Felicity. I just don't have any faith in this show regarding actual character development most of the time. If they give it to her, they give it to her. Could be used to further her as a person, but given their focus on masks, I doubt it.
ReplyDeleteMy consulting fees are very reasonable if Guggenheim & Co needs ideas :)
ReplyDeleteI'd say this show does mostly good character development. But I will argue against Laurel being responsible for the alderman's death.
ReplyDeleteI didn't say she was responsible, I said she was indirectly responsible, because she insisted on going out despite not knowing what the hell she was doing. Digg too, I suppose, for not going too when he has actual hostage/combat training, but even Laurel herself thought she was somewhat responsible for it.
ReplyDeleteHahahaha. Usually my fees are higher but I'll adapt to you.
ReplyDeleteStill. I disagree. Even if Digg was there. He'd probably die. He didn't do well against Brick last time. Even then blaming even indirectly I feel is really unfair to Roy and Laurel. Only way that could have been avoided was maybe if Oliver was there.
ReplyDeleteI really don't want meta humans on Arrow...
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's unfair to either one of them. They put on the masks, the chose to go out there. Laurel didn't know what she was doing, Roy's better but he's no Oliver. They meant well, but they messed up. Actions have consequences. Maybe that guy wouldn't have gotten killed if Diggle was there. Maybe he would have. But he did get killed when Roy and Laurel were around, and they both botched the whole thing with Brick, so...coulda, woulda, shoulda. It's on them.
ReplyDeleteSo they completely embraced metahumans hmmmm
ReplyDeletea METAHUMAN?!!!!!!!!! ON ARROW? HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, i completely expected some Brick twist: made real for Arrow instead of superpowers, AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletePalmer's suit is made of plasma?
ReplyDeleteI agree. it's okay for the flash/arrow crossover, but otherwise arrow should stick with it's non-power villains.
ReplyDeleteWow so much for not introducing any villains with Super Powers lol.
ReplyDeleteUGH
ReplyDeleteAccording to Marc is not happening. But the insistence on its in the comics therefore it should be in the show is getting tiresome. I dont need to watch the show if everything will be the same as the comics. But i know everytime a metahuman will show up in SC there will be the demand Canary Cry, because BC had it in the comics.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the loosing the arm bit would make very little sense at this point in Roy's trajectory.
ReplyDeleteI know better than you might think what it's like, I've been on both sides of this old argument of show doing it's own thing vs sticking to the source material. I used to be quite annoyed at "bookies" wanting a show to follow the books more, now for this show I am one. Strange how things turn out. I don't know why it's just an issue for TV shows. No one goes into the movie version of Lord of the Rings expecting Frodo to say Heck no to taking the ring to Mordor and instead start a steamy romance with Arwen right?
But therefore that means it was potentially unavoidable and pointless to shift blame even if unintentional on any one of them.
ReplyDeleteNah, it was avoidable. Neither Laurel nor Roy had to go to those hostages at that very moment - Brick hadn't given them some kind of ultimatum; they had more time to plan. Laurel was being stubborn about wanting to go out, as was Roy. They escalated a situation that was calm at the moment and it resulted in Brick shooting that alderman. His death is on them.
ReplyDeleteI suspect we won't ever agree about that though. :)
ROFL yup. I just dont think i want to hear its in the comic reasoning. I am getting allergic to it.
ReplyDeleteI want it to be due to the things that happen in the show and that it really feels organic not just because it was possible in the comics. And even though i am not a Laurel fan i want the focus to be on her training first. And that its believable and that she can over time become equal to her comic counterpart. But they really have to get that part right for me. For the time being she has the device Sara used and they can upgrade that with help of Cisco ( i think i would be ok with a superpower in future seasons if the build up is there and its not just because of the comics. But this season i just dont think can handle any more stories).
And I at least would be totally cool with a tech based sollution that feels organic to the show (I talked a bit about it with @Spindae2 above) , it does not have to be a metahuman ability.
ReplyDeleteNo; what I'm saying is I could see Deathbolt's powers expanding where it's all types of energy that Deathbolt can harness.
ReplyDeleteSo true, haha.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I can't agree with that.
ReplyDeleteI disagree, Black Canary is metahuman and for them to change her to just a regular human that is not sticking to original DC characters. There should be more metahumans on this show, cause in the end Oliver actually fights them in the comics. I wish they would stick closer to the characters on the comics.
