Thanks to Sparky for the heads up.

  1. It's amazing how Vertigo knows exactly what to say when he is "Sara".

    ReplyDelete
  2. I assume it isn't just a visual hallucination it's also an auditive.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I really hope Oliver comes completely clean with Thea. She needs to know that her father made her kill Sara. And when the heck will Laurel find out.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Yessss Peter Stormare is back, love that guy. Let's hope he's not as underused as he was in the season premiere.

so...Oliver/Malcolm/Thea training sequences here we go, can't wait to see Amell and Barrowman interact, It's so clearly visible how the writers originally intended to have Oliver as Malcolms son and not Thea but things go that direction anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I'm hoping the fight between The Canary and The Black Canary isn't lame! I just have bad feeling about it.

    ReplyDelete
  6. That's the thing, when he was "Oliver" and that weird alien (seriously what was that? Glad he didn't start to speak Marsian) he didn't say anything. So unless he made some modifications to the formula to make people see AND hear their greatest fear, it will be ridiculously convenient.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Barrowman was the one who said that the original plan was having Oliver being Malcolm's son... But Barrowman thought it would be much more fun being Thea's, because that could make better dynamics.

I perosnally like the way it is... Oliver as Malcolm's son would have ran out of steam easily. This way you can impact two characters instead of just one.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Katie and Caity are both two very physical actresses and the stunt team of Arrow never under-delivered. For a fight so iconic as this one(a poignant moment for Laurel) they will do their best.

I think it will be a good one.

    ReplyDelete
  9. And I'm glad that he veto'd, I like the Merlyn/Thea dynamic (despite the unhealthy nature).

    ReplyDelete
  10. but makes for a great way to bring back old fan favourites

    ReplyDelete
  11. I agree, think they are giving us just very superficial tidbits and that the overall fight will be quite good. Hoping for a Canary cry to be involved! ;-) :-O

    ReplyDelete
  12. Very excited to see Oliver and Malcolm (and Thea) training - it's one of the biggest things I am looking forward to, and partly the reason I can stand Oliver's decision to work with him!

    ReplyDelete
  13. The fight between Oliver and Raz was more than boring, I think lately they messed up a lot just to make it epic.

    ReplyDelete
  14. True and I miss Sara. I'm just tired of all those inconsistencies that only serve the plot and insult us.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well the Thea/Malcolm training fights were the best choreographed fights this season, you could clearly see the sword skill their stunt doubles had. So I really have some high hopes with Stephen in the mix now.

I get that decision though, someone needs to train him.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm not really happy about Oliver and Malcolm interacting in that way, but I assume they don't have an idea how to keep them together over the curse of a season.

    ReplyDelete
  17. It was suppose to be like that. We were suppose to see how Oliver is nowhere near the level of Ra's.

    ReplyDelete
  18. well I'm fine with that inconsitency, it's a pretty minor thing I can live with. However...I'm stilly pissy at Felicitys OOC sequece from last week. The first time I actually saw the internet fire back at her

    ReplyDelete
  19. I don't really remember his fight in the premier. I just know he was fighting himself. I have to re-watch the first part of the season. But they are at an lab so probably he added something to the formula.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I don't think that there needs to be any big idea. In the comic-verse they're obsessed with each other, always wanting to prove that one of both is better. Oliver looked up to him as a kid and Merlyn got butthurt when he kicked his butt in archery.

I'm still rooting for them keeping Malcolm locked up in a cell like Red on the Blacklist

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm angry about how the majority of the episode resolved, Felicity is the slightest problem whole picture.
Felicity's outburst was just another way to keep Olicity away from each other.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I thought I was the only one! The choreography was slow and fairly weak compared to their usual fight scenes. Should've been quicker and with more actual clashes instead of Ra's constantly evading Ollies sword

    ReplyDelete
  23. Definitely need training (and a kick up the backside) - but part of me also thinks he should just throw Malcolm to the wolves (or Ra's in this case), but I also love Barrowman so I'm equally happy he is getting more screen time!

I wonder how much Thea will be involved in their training sequences - she just isn't on Oliver or Malcolms level, but it would definitely add an interesting dynamic!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Can't happen! Remember in 3x04 Malcolm stated no prison can hold him down.

I enjoy them being at each others throats not training together. -.- But we'll see maybe I'll be more happy with what is coming that I initially thought.

    ReplyDelete
  25. He won't. Drama trumps common sense on this show.

    ReplyDelete
  26. You know, in retrospect the episode was still enjoyable. It had some pretty damn cool sequences, some of the shows most memorable ones IMO. Malcolms flashbacks, Oliver and Tatsu wandering through that forrest (beautiful location) and the final fight scene.

However they just completely f***ed with Oliver, Felicity and Malcolm as characters.

I would argue that Oliver and Malcolm being written in a different, more redeemable way neccessary for the Ra's s arc but that Felicity outburst was pure ship-focused and didn't really have a place in that episode, let alone as a cliffhanger

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yet another promo I can't watch. I just keep getting a black box no matter how many times I try to reload the page.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Nice catch, Vertigo. It's always good to see Peter Stormare.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yeah but a special cell forged by them exclusively to hold Malcolm in the Arrowcave and him probably agreeing to being locked up would do the trick.

They will be at each others throats soon enough, Malcolm is a villain....I hope

okay....talking about that DC spin-off theCW was talking about...how likely is it now that Barrowman gets his wish for a Merlyn spin-off? He's not really a major DC character but that plot developement made Merlyn being spun off more plausible

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yeah, but seriously how believable is that? Oliver just stood there ready to be sliced open. We were promised an epic fight, all we got is that Oliver sacrificed himself for Thea. I was disappointed, that is all I am saying.... I usually love Oliver fighting.

    ReplyDelete
  31. It's supposed to bring your greatest fear to life, so the taunting this makes sense.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Would be interesting to see Malcolm face Ra`s. I keep wondering, Ra's is built up to be so scary, to even make Malcolm sh*t his pants. What if Merlyn could actually kick Ra's a** and take his place?

Arrows writers developed Merlyn as the anti-Bruce Wayne, so if Bruce doesen't want to succeed Ra's, what if Merlyn does?

Oh and I doubt that they'd get rid of Barrowman if Oliver would throw him to the wolves. The writers, producers are very clear on how much they love the guy and given that Arrow is performing really well right now I doubt that theCW would risk a huge cast change in the near future

    ReplyDelete
  33. I really enjoyed some parts, like you mentioned the flashbacks, Oliver and Tatsu, Sin and Quentin and Roy and Laurel (these 2 are surprisingly compatible in the scenes they share). But the way it resolved just didn't felt right.
I would maybe even enjoy Felicity's outburst if it wasn't presented so emotional. If it was her clear opinion and if she made a point in front of Diggle and Roy asking for support without mentioning the "woman you love" it would've worked. But as you said it was to shippery and didn't felt to suit the episode.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thea got really lucky with that decision - now she finally got an interesting storyline. But I think I would have preferred Oliver to be Malcolm's sun, I would have added more conflict for Oliver.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh certainly, if she wouldn't have broke out crying and being insulting...aka less emotional her point would've come across as less petty and more reasonable.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Rheinmeister09 .8 February 2015 at 18:49

He does this week according to some of the promo's out there!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. that sounds like the typical fanboy impression of women i am seeing right here.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Wow a Malcolm spin-off? Never thought about it. I mean it could work if the story is right but that would be a huge step. I mean the writing and composure had to be to notch. His motives for doing what he would do there had to be really strong.
I would watch it, no doubt.

    ReplyDelete
  39. She learns the truth about him being the Arrow. I highly doubt Oliver tells him she was brainwashed into murdering Sara Lance by her birth father.

    ReplyDelete
  40. eh, come again?

The scene, wich should've been about her concerns, was turned into an emotional fight that used the actual issue as a backdrop for the romantic subplot. It made no sense for the scene.

Not sure what you're trying to say buuuutt...Felicity still wasn't justified in attacking his love for his sister and Sara...so I think you might be wrong on this

    ReplyDelete
  41. Lately, unfortunately, yes. I mean, superhero shows always have this problem, and Arrow certainly stretched things in the first two seasons, but it's never been created this weekly need I have to bang my head on a table before. Too much of the interpersonal drama feels manufactured at this point. Like last year, Oliver keeping the secret about Malcolm being Thea's dad made sense - you can see where Thea finding out that her father was the main architect of the destroy the Glades plan would hurt her with no major upside, aside from not lying to her, which Oliver was already doing, so you could see where he would rationalize that bit away. Now we're basically doing the same thing over again, only there's no good compelling reason and Oliver hasn't learned from his mistake the first time, which makes him look kinda stupid. It's getting annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  42. The fight was slower! But it was more about making the fight last longer, cause they wanted Ra to be so dominant over Ollie and not let the fight seem to short.
I was disappointed by how weak Oliver seemed in that fight, I know RA is a big name in the DC-verse but still Oliver winning over him in about 10 eps will feel cheap.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Those two secrets are the most annoying thing on the show right now. And that Papa Lance doesn't know, he must have picked up that they all acting weird.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Barrowman was apparently really pushy to turn Merlyn into a bigger player than in the comics, so I guess the creative team is on board.

I considered it a Barrowman/fan theory until thinking about what the show had done with the character (set the groundwork for a redemption story)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ra's generally felt rather weak, I'm sorry Matt Nable is really not bringing the subtle threat of the character to life.
He lacks the presence and gravitas

    ReplyDelete
  46. She told him to leave her alone because she needed to take a breath. He didnt listen. And to quote Stephen from the Dallas con Felicity was "dropping a truth bomb and walking away."

    ReplyDelete
  47. Couldn't have said it any better:)

    ReplyDelete
  48. truth bombs aren't usually that subjective, she threw a bomb. Truth? Can't really agree on that. she was incredibly insulting and the ran away.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Certainly! But at last Thea will find out the truth about the Arrow, and the follow up The return should be quite good.
Now the thing about Sara's killer was justified till this moment and needs to be resolved asap.
I liked Lance knowing it was Roy under the red hood. Hilarious scene. But keeping the Oliver secret from Lance adds a bit mystery to the story and as Lance said he doesn't want to know.

    ReplyDelete
  50. The only justification I can come up with is actually in this very promo. If Oliver comes clean about the Arrow to Thea and tells her that if they're all to survive the impending assault by Ra's al Ghul that they all have to work together, then I can see him keeping his mouth shut. Thea is never going to cooperate let alone want to be in the same zip code as Malcolm Merlyn if she knows the truth... and that would also prematurely derail his "redemption."

    ReplyDelete
  51. Dinah Laurel Lance ♥

    ReplyDelete
  52. When JB was announced regular this season I remember a interview with him where he said he called up the producers wanting to know about what they plan to do with Malcolm. He certainly wants to have a bigger input. And who doesn't Arrow is quite the big success.

I would love for a MM show to happen but as said it would need a great story. At this point we saw that family is what drives Malcolm the most, so how to connect that to a new show?

    ReplyDelete
  53. He was solid. I enjoyed him but something was missing. He should've been this big threat but didn't look that way. I would've gone for a bigger man to represent that power he is holding.

    ReplyDelete
  54. An interesting thought - Malcolm as head of the LoA. It wouldn't surprise me if this was his ultimate goal as I'm sure he has an ulterior motive (when does he not).

Hoping the 2nd half of the season picks up a bit from the 1st half. Whilst I have still enjoyed Arrow, it's been a bit lacking in comparison to the latter half of season 2!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Well Oliver wasnt really gentle with the news with bringing Merlyn on the team. There wasnt a way Felicity wouldnt have reacted emotional with what we saw since 3x10. Not only was he responsible for Sara and turning Thea into a killing zombie, he was also the guy who orchestreted Olivers disappearence and then also bringing the bloody sword to the team. And i guess those 500 people dying in the Undertaking can just be overlooked. And if someone pushes after he is told to lay off, hey i am gonna cheer a girl to be as emotional as it gets.
I think she needed the time to think about what Oliver just dropped on them, but Oliver wasnt giving her any time so of course she blew in his face. There were several times this season where Felicity was written OOC for plot reasons, same with Dig, but this wasnt one of them.

    ReplyDelete
  56. probably the Undertaking. I mean that was the reason they were coming for him in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  57. So it is clear that Thea will learn Oliver is Arrow this episode but will not learn about Sara. Good. Oliver is smart. If he tells her about Sara she would want to kill Malcolm. Then no training and no facing Ra's. So I guess Malcolm sends these two cool kids to Lian Yu as a training exercise. I can't wait for Malcolm's diabolical actions.

For an episode named canaries I am more interested in Thea/Malcolm/Oliver than Laurel and Sara. I really liked Laurel in ep 10 and 11. But with Oliver's comeback last episode I am again loosing interest in the canary struggle. She needs to learn about Sara's killer soon.

Great to see Peter Stormare back.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Vertigo didn't say a single word after he became Oliver. I hope they explain it although I highly doubt that.

    ReplyDelete
  59. He just won't tell her that Sara think, it will of course come back and hit him in his leader ass but that is nothing new.
I understand Ollie's action to some lengths, he needs a focused Thea not an emotionally ridden girl angry at her father for lying. That emotions can get them all killed.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Maybe the writers will surprise us ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  61. She was very justified. He is leaving Thea in the dark about how Malcolm abused her and left her alone with him and to top it off he is working with him and giving him the chance to redeem himself for her (as if cares!!!). He is working with the man who abused his sister and killed Sara!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Felicity was having an emotional pity party for her crashed dreams which was mixed with her intense hatred for Malcolm and the things he had done. So I get what makes you angry when she called out his love for Thea and Sara. But I think someone from the characters should call him out about his decisions because at the end of the episode I sat looking at the screen and wondered what kind of a brother Oliver is if he is letting Thea still be in contact with Malcolm? So I could relate to Felicity's question. I think they could have done it better with seperating romance and question of morality. But with the ILY bomb looming over their head this had to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Why do we do this to ourselves. We know canadian and asian promos will spoil us rotten yet we can't stay away :P

    ReplyDelete
  64. he'll tell her right? he has to

    ReplyDelete
  65. Based on 3x15 description I don't think he's going to tell her anytime soon. He'll just tell her that he is the Arrow.

    ReplyDelete
  66. maybe this episode will tell us Vertigo motivation and trying to return his to his home country

    ReplyDelete
  67. I was hoping Thea would finally find out what she did, but learning Oliver is the Arrow will have to do...

    ReplyDelete
  68. Laurel vs Phatom Sara OMG be careful my girl

    ReplyDelete
  69. That was the point. Ra's was playing with Oliver... The fight had to show that Oliver was like a kid compared to Ra's.

    ReplyDelete
  70. The Sara voices are just in Laurel's head. It's psychosis. She's tuned whatever Vertigo is saying.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Obiviously Laurel doesn't think she'll ever leave Sara's shadow. Thus why she can talk and fight. Actually she has. She saved Laurel in Birds of Prey and Laurel saw her fight several other times as well.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Discussion point was what was a lame fight? And that was one and we got promised an epic fight scene. I never read the comics, never will, so just what we know from this TV series Oliver was better than what got to see. I like the fight scenes on this show - and in this scene all I saw was Oliver getting sliced open like turkey by an more or less old man. Which was totally out of character to the rest of the show. If Raz is that good, why not show us? I don't like if the writers just tell me a characters qualities, with no knowledge of the character from the comics, how I am supposed to know that Raz is that good? I did not get that from that scene unlike you apparently :)) Lucky you!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Sorry, I meant that Lance should know that Sarah is dead, not that he should know that he is the Arrow. Also Oliver should tell Thea first that Merlyn drugged her to kill Sarah and not that he is the Arrow. It is all twisted. If they don't need Malcom for a fourth season, I predict that Thea will kill Malcom just to make the most tv drama out of it. Same as Clarke killing Finn.

    ReplyDelete
  74. If the writers do it THE 100 style, Thea will be one who kills Malcolm at the end, just to go for the most drama. But I have't read the comics, so I don't know what story there is for Speedy or Malcom.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Because if Ra's would have wanted he could have killed Ollie in one swing of the blade... That's why i think everyting he does it's pointless. There's no way on Earth that Oliver can beat Ra's right now... He, in the show's time-line, is just starting... When he's at his peak, maybe... now? no way.

The problem you had is a problem of the narrative of the show. Someone who reads comics knows who Ra's is. People who don't? he appeared for 10 minutes on-screen in Season 3 and they are told he has to be feared.
It's a narrative problem because he wasn't a menacing presence on the show. You are not shown WHY you have to fear that man, why Ollie can't beat him... So when that happens it looks like Oliver was sleepy rather than Ra's playing with him.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Yep - I agree!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Right I forgot about the BoP episode. Good memory.

    ReplyDelete
  78. It doesn't explain why Vertigo is fighting like Sara though.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Yeah ... I'm still not sold that Malcolm is going to be all that helpful. And while I understand what you're saying, and it's true that Thea would probably want Malcolm gone if she knew, it's just way too much trust to put in the hands of Malcolm Merlyn. The guy is pretty capable of turning this whole thing around to save himself, and Thea wouldn't see it coming, and could willingly walk into a trap. Which is basically what she did the first time she left. Which she did after she found out people were keeping secrets. See? So many ways this could go wrong. I get the reasoning, it just seems really, really weak when you consider that Malcolm is the one who sank the Gambit and killed Robert and put Sara with Dr. Crazy, then dropped a building on top of Tommy, then made Thea kill Sara, making him the killer of one family member of Oliver's, two of his friends, and the potential cause of Thea's death - this is just so much trust that Oliver is putting in him. On the possible chance that maybe he can actually help Oliver beat the guy who very recently whooped his ass like it was nothing, and from whom Malcolm is running like hell is at his back - which apparently it is. Guy who lost to Ra's - badly! - plus guy who is scared of him does not seem like a winning combination. Really, it just feels like a waste of time when they could be coming up with a better plan and not driving Thea away for good.

Also, I hope they don't really redeem Malcolm. I know they're pushing it, but goodness, I hope they don't. I love him as a villain, but that's what he is, and I want him to stay that way. Between what he's done to Robert, Thea, Moira, Walter and Oliver himself, how many people in Oliver's family does the guy need to screw with before he stays on the permanent enemy list? Because unless he finds out about Connor, he's basically run out. I can live with it maybe if it's in a he throws himself in front of an arrow meant for Thea which is great but now he's dead sort of way, because then we won't have to deal with an actual good Malcolm on the show. I don't like it, but I can do it. Otherwise though, just, please, no. I'd much rather he try to screw them over, Thea and Oliver almost die. Which is bad, but it would make so much more sense to me.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Thanks. If only I could do that with my university stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  81. You know, I often try to remember what I studied in college but it's such a wasted effort lol god I hated my major.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I actually really enjoy mine (history), but I'm better at sociology. What was yours?

    ReplyDelete
  83. There's really nothing complex about what Oliver wants from Malcolm. He wants Merlyn's help in raising his skill level along with a better insight into how Ra's fights. He'd be a fool to expect anything more. He'd also be a fool not to cover his basis and plan for any potential backstabbing on his part. None of this makes a rock-solid justification for Oliver's decision but those don't exist on this show.

From what I can tell, if the writers can get someone to at least momentarilly consider both sides of an issue then that's good enough for them. Unfortunately, they'll never get me to see the logic behind chasing after Malcolm once the League grabs him and takes him to Nanda Parbat.

I hope they don't redeem Malcolm either. I think the only way to come close to accomplishing it would be complete self-sacrifice. If he gets himself killed saving Thea, that would be the closest he'd ever get to redemption. If they're not willing to do that, they're better off keeping him as a full-on villain.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Accounting! Yeah fun times.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I guess the same could be said when he was fighting Arrow as Oliver.

    ReplyDelete
  86. But he was just fighting he didn't have a certain technique similar to Oliver's but as Sara he is fighting with the bo staff and holds it very much like her. I know that I'm nitpicking but these little things annoy me. And technically Sara was fighting Vertigo's partner.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Wow, not gonna lie for me that sounds like hell. Lol.

    ReplyDelete
  88. For everyone not just you lol
