Asking Malcolm for help obviously.
ReplyDeleteOr partnering up. I'm pretty sure in the promos it looks like he offers to partner up and she's a little like "What?!" Or I could be imagining it.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how it's going to play out but either way she is talking about working with Malcolm in general.
ReplyDeleteWell the description did say that after Felicity shuts Laurel & Roy down regarding Merlyn, they go to Diggle.

ReplyDeleteI think it is a matter of necessity. Roy, Laurel, and John can't take out all the released criminals and Malcolm is the most trained (probably) out of all of them.

ReplyDeleteWell I would imagine things would start getting revealed with Oliver and Thea ending up on Lian Yu in Episode 14 and Nyssa coming back sooner or later.
ReplyDeleteLike the WWOQD? Dialogue. Because honestly yeah he'd hate the idea of working with Merlyn (though if severely pushed probably would), plus it is a great way to provoke debate amongst the fans and characters over the team up. So pumped for Uprising.
ReplyDeleteNecessity. Happens all the time in Suits, TVD and TO. You make a deal with the devil to protect those you care about. And without Oliver's leadership and clarity and skill I can see it being quite necessary. For all his faults, Malcolm is brilliant, strategically gifted, the second most badass character of the show, and as driven as Oliver was. Plus he knows how to do what no one but Ra's al Ghul, Brick and Slade do, bring a city to its knees. His insight to stopping such a plan is invaluable.

ReplyDeleteAlthough ARGUS has a way of being legit and sketchy at the same time. It's sort of like "If you ask for a favor you owe one." At least with Malcolm they know he's fully sketchy.
ReplyDeleteStill can't accept the fact. I hope the episode makes me a believer that they have no other choice :) The problem with me is it is only a handful of days since Oliver is declared dead by Malcolm. So to accept Malcolm's help so soon after he caused the Oliver's death is inconceivable for me. Also why not call ARGUS to send a troop or even the SS.
ReplyDeleteSo you can work with a terrorist but cannot with a secret govt organisation? Full Sketchy is better than half sketchy?
ReplyDeleteAlso giving characters angst does not mean they can't be happy in other avenues. Why go for such a used and abused formula of keeping them seperate. Put them together then keep testing their bond by giving them troubles from outside source.. Oliver's past, Felicity's father etc. Keep the relationship in the background. How hard is that?
ReplyDeleteI wonder if this whole half step forward, 15 thousand steps back between Oliver and Felicity is gonna spill into next season or is gonna get resolved - either way - by the end of S3, coz frankly, I feel it's gonna start getting ridiculous pulling them apart all the time, on the sole basis of 'that's what the show thrives on.' Just read something Kriesberg just said about the darkness of Arrow, as opposed to the lightness of The Flash and how they keep finding ways to hurt the characters on Arrow. If that's gonna be the constant formula (with just glimpses of happiness in a universe perpetual angst) then I'm afraid it's gonna get repetitively redundant for me to the point of sillines... it can't and shouldn't ALWAYS have to depressing...
ReplyDeleteWhat I mean is they know what to expect from Malcolm. Waller has a way of only doing things that actually matter to her or ARGUS. They could probably care less about criminals taking over the Glades. Their answer to Slade was bomb the city. I'm not sure you want someone like that sending in any sort of help. At least with Malcolm you know what he'll do.
ReplyDeleteAlso the Oliver who is coming back would definitely work with Malcolm against Ra's. This is a trial run for that.
ReplyDeleteWell, Oliver might not team up with Malcolm, but he did defend him from the League of Assassins for no reason, brought their wrath upon him, let Malcolm remain free and didn't even try to lock him up and test his "no jail can hold me" boast, oh and he left his sister with a brainwashing mass murderer. So I'm not sure I'd go with a 'what would Oliver do?' approach.

ReplyDeleteI don't think Olicity shippers NEED to see every aspect of the relationship. A little flirting, a kiss here and there, and they'll survive. I think what you said about external conflict could play really well. It doesn't have to be the whole episode every week. I think most people can live with glimpses.

ReplyDeleteExactly. For a show that prides on fashioning themselves as groundbreakers in their genre, they sure as hell love regurgitating the same old (and tired) formulas when it comes to their stories of late...
ReplyDeleteStill it's only few days since Oliver's death and he killed Sara and Oliver. I find it hard to believe. Maybe the show will make me understand the necessity of this.
ReplyDeleteHonestly the shippers were most happy when they saw these two work well together on missions and having few scenes. It's the ease of their relationship which was attractive to the most. Now they have turned it into a soap saga of angst.
ReplyDeleteI am not an Olicity shipper and at one point did not want them together in a romantic way but since the show has decided to do so why not do it in a smart and simple way. The simplicity with which these characters accepted each other and worked well together was their major attraction. They gave up on that just to have the same old we can't be together until audience have lost interest in the relationship dance.
ReplyDeleteThey have a chance of writing their own original story, instead they tell a story that has been told over and over - a triangle? Really? How original. And mark my words, allllll this unnecessary back and forth between them and the writers at the end of the day (or show rather) will end with Laurel and Oliver together. Waste of perfectly good story... Look at Orphan Black, they manage to tell a plethora of stories that entirely transcend and bypass what we consider the traditional love story. AND IT WORKS... p.s. I've said this before, I truly cannot stand the use of "shipper" names, and personally never use them, esp in the context of Arrow, it's used so often and in such fanatical ways, that the moment it's used now, I and many others stop taking the discussion seriously. The writers need to put this story to bed, either way, once and for all.

ReplyDeleteThere is probably a story reason (good idea though). Though I don't thing Diggle can just do that. Plus I don't like that, because honestly it's almost like the just call Barry shit. But I feel like they'll explain why the military isn't there. Probably some sort of government disavow a la Batman: No Man's Land. I hope at least.

Honestly, we don't need entire episodes devoted to them (I watch for a lot of other reasons than just Olicity) and I'd be a lot happier with seeing their relationship tested by outside sources, as you said, than with this dragged out thing they've done.
ReplyDeleteI understand why the military is not there. The govt is so ready to hand off the glades they must not have called them. The authorities are a joke here. But ARGUS is another thing. I am not sure but I don't think people like mayor and Lance are aware of ARGUS. And Diggle has a direct contact with them through Lyla who seems to have quite some power inside the organisation. Unless they show us Waller refused to help them in any way I won't be happy with this story line.
ReplyDeleteIt's like the writers can't get out of the "CW high school mentality". When it comes to romance it's like they don't know anything new to be done. It's irritating.
ReplyDeleteI also think this dance is because they are scared of the backlash from devout comic book fans. So they think if they drag this both factions will have hope.

ReplyDeleteThere is most likely going to be a justification. But even then Waller can't just use Argus or the Squad to do whatever she wants (though I really, really, really doubt she would care as long as it doesn't threaten national security it doesn't matter to her, this is shown so often in Arrow) she reports to the President and other high government officials.

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely yes! Everything you said, yes. SA keeps saying how the relationships are being portrayed maturely and what-not, but I just see the same old storylines. I don't see what's so mature about what's happening right now... The writers need to ball up and pick a side so that they can go back to concentrating on the shows plot, which to be completely honest, has been rather lackluster this season...
