Popularity of “NCIS” and “The Big Bang Theory” Extends Across Gender, Geography and Demographics, Ranking Among the Top Shows With Millennials, Gen X, Baby Boomers and Matures
NCIS and THE BIG BANG THEORY are America’s top two favorite current shows, according to a newly released Harris Poll of 2,232 U.S. adults who were surveyed online in English between Jan. 14 and Jan. 20, 2015.
“We all know that NCIS and THE BIG BANG THEORY are the top-rated scripted series, but this survey demonstrates that these shows clearly stand out as America’s favorite choice in a growing television universe,” said David Poltrack, Chief Research Officer, CBS Corporation, President, CBS Vision. “This level of viewer engagement is important because research has proven that engaged viewers are more receptive to and more responsive to advertising. The CBS primetime lineup accounted for far more ‘favorite’ mentions than that of any other network and contained more different programs chosen as viewer favorites, confirming the unique bond between this Network’s programs and its audience.”

Very nice for NCIS! I am surprised that Blue Bloods is also in the top 10.
ReplyDeleteI'm Gen-X and I like 6 of the top 10. I'm happy for NCIS and Criminal Minds. Never watched BB but it's nice to see them recognized.
ReplyDeleteI dont get this, how can this be?
ReplyDeleteYou barely hear people talk about ncis, its barely in any weekly scenes etc topics, polls.
What is the deal with this, do people just turn on their TVs when the show is on while they do something else or what?
It makes really no sense to me, how can a show be this "successfull" yet getting barely any aknowledgment and praise?
EIther way, good for the hard working cast
Just because people do not talk about CBS shows here on the site like they do with CW shows doesn't mean anything.
ReplyDeleteHappy to see NCIS and TBBT as leads. Really deserved.
ReplyDeleteWhy does America like NCIS so much. It's not really anything special.
ReplyDeleteLike most of CBS's shows, it's procedural, very easy to watch, you could likely skip two seasons and not have a problem jumping back in... I can see why it maintains so many viewers more than a complex show like Scandal or The Blacklist. It's funny because it's the most-watched show on TV but it skews so old I've literally never met anyone who watches it lol
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to see Scandal in this list :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to see The Blacklist
ReplyDeleteI call BS that Sons of Anarchy is not in the top 10. It was the second most watched show on cable and has a huge fanbase as well.
ReplyDeleteWho votes here?!
ReplyDeleteI watch five out of the ten, they might not be my favorites, but they are still really good, so yay!
ReplyDeleteNever got NCIS´s appeal....
Must not meet a whole lot of people than. I'm 31, and have been a regular viewer of NCIS since it started back in 2003 (when I was 19). Also have several friends ranging from 28-40 who also enjoy the show immensely.
ReplyDeleteI didn't say the fans don't exist lol, I acknowledged that it's the most-watched show on TV.. just said I've never met a fan. I'm 23, so the shows target demo is nowhere near the majority of my friends
ReplyDeleteSo happy to see Scandal on the list, but where's Empire?
ReplyDeleteI only watch GoT and MF out of this shows.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations NCIS! 12 season and still going strong ;)
ReplyDeleteFunny how a show that is not ever on the air this season is on the list
ReplyDeleteAs somebody said in the comments on EW, one of the reason is (maybe) that all the NCIS team is good. I mean "good", no antiheroes, simply likeable.
ReplyDeleteThe "skews so old" is also misleading. Indeed its viewer/rating ratio is very low, but at the same time 90% of the network shows would die for a solid 2.5-2.8 ratings, week after week without any fail. Not to mention that doing it in its 12th season, and has been in this top group for many years, unlike comet shows which started with a bang and after one or two seasons are fighting to survive. So if you haven't met anybody who watched, it means only you picked a bad sample.
It is a different demographic that is highly verbal. Just because the large majority do not discuss shows on forums or like shows that are not "buzzy"does not mean they are not watching.
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of people come home from work and turn to it because it is solid entertainment but slides down easily after a hard day.
ReplyDeleteBlue Bloods was the biggest surprise for me - actually I was shocked. Also interesting that the same 3 shows appealed to conservatives, liberals, and moderates - perhaps that is the biggest secret to their success.
ReplyDeleteBecause the show is popular with 50+ people. And they are not as active on the internet as people between 20-30.
ReplyDelete10 Person of Interest
ReplyDelete9 The Big Bang Theory
8 Bob's Burgers
7 Blue Bloods
6 Hannibal
5 Shameless
4 Game of Thrones
3 It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
2 Justified

ReplyDeleteModern Family!!!:))
ReplyDeleteI could add athat to The Good Wife, Critics like it but the Total Numbers do not support it
ReplyDeleteHi I am Holly! now you have met me and I watch it :)
ReplyDeleteNCIS so much hate it deserve more respect........
ReplyDeleteof these 10, I only watch Blacklist and NCIS, but NCIS certainly isn't my number 1. I will never understand the "taste" of the masses.
