ABC has added two more comedy pilots to its slate today — Family Fortune starring actor-comedian Fortune Feimster, from Matt Hubbard, Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, and a remake of Uncle Buck produced by Will Parker (the Ride Along and Think Like A Man franchises). Both projects hail from Universal TV, Uncle Buck will be a co-production with ABC Studios.
Family Fortune, which had a penalty attached to it, reunites the Cabbot College team of creator/executive producer Hubbard, executive producers Fey and Carlock and co-star Feimster. The comedy is based on the family life and stand-up of Feimster, who grew up in Belmont, N.C. Written by Hubbard and Feimster, it centers on popular gym teacher in Georgia (Feimster) who comes out of the closet to her close-knit group of family and friends. What she doesn’t realize is that she will also have to deal with her bickering and happily divorced parents also ‘coming out’ that they are sleeping together again.
Uncle Buck (format TBD) is based on the classic John Hughes film starring John Candy which was produced by Universal. Like the movie, the series project, written by Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley, will center on a childish man, played in the film by Candy, who learns how to be an adult by taking care of his brother’s kids in a very childish way. Cragg, Bradley and Packer executive produce, with Will Packer Prods.’ head of TV Korin Huggins co-executive producing. The project falls under the first-look deal Packer inked with Universal TV last year. This marks Packer’s second pilot order this season, along with comedy People Are Talking at NBC.

Family Fortune looks fun!
ReplyDeleteI thought that Uncle Buck had been abandoned due to overwhelmingly negative reaction.
ReplyDeleteUncle Buck could be fun. Finally some promising ABC comedy pilots.
ReplyDeleteEven FF sounds okay.
I absolutely LOVE Uncle Buck the movie, but am not really sure how it would translate to he small screen over a number of eps, but I'll keep an eye out for it
ReplyDeleteYummy, more bad sounding pilots. At least Family Fortune is trying. Shame Fortune Feimster's more annoying than she is funny.
