The longest from now, or the longest from the series' start?
ReplyDeleteBecause The Simpsons have some serious head start.
By the way, what were the criteria to include a show in this list? Castle is already in its 7th season for example...
Well, The Walking Dead has been described as a 'never-ending zombie story', so I think that show could go on for a very, very long time. Especially considering it's (one of) the most popular shows right now.
ReplyDeleteYeah and PLL is going to end its run after season 7.
ReplyDeleteAnd Game Of Thrones is going to be 7 season as well....
ReplyDeleteDidn't they say 8 or 9 seasons?
ReplyDeleteNo oney can deny that supernatural is the only show that can last for ever, right?
ReplyDeleteThe Simpsons can last forever if it wants to, so that first and foremost.
ReplyDeleteI expect Law and Order SVU and SPN to have the longest number of seasons behind The Simpsons. Now, the one that will be in air after those ended is The Walking Dead, 12 seasons planned? Yeah, in the next seven years everything else may end, but The Simpsons
agree about simpsons, this is a user submitted poll. So it was by the users choice to include what he probably watches or knows. But in case there is something you are not aware of you there is Other.
ReplyDeleteI voted for SPN, because I think the show will end only when CW is able to release its spin-off, otherwise, there will be SPN forever. I also voted for TBBT and TWD. The last one will last until there are zombies watching this show. It used to be a good show but nowadays they just keep walking and walking and walking and getting in empty houses for 3 or 4 episodes!!! With its monster audience TWD will last about 15 ou 20 seaons and of course a spin-off!!! IMO
ReplyDeleteLooks like we had the same thought, son :-)
ReplyDeleteIf you search the web for a bit, most websites say that the show will end after 7 seasons. The problem is that the writer of the books is a really slow writer, so books 6 and 7 still have to be finished. So my guess is that eventually it will be 8 seasons, because they will have to fill the time for the writer to finish the books.
ReplyDeleteThe Simpsons invalidates every other option. No show will ever catch it or surpass it in longevity.
ReplyDeleteTBBT,The Simpsons,NCIS & SPN.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. "The Simpsons" will be on TV as long as TV exists.
ReplyDeleteThe better question would be who will be watching them. Liking tv show is one thing, but spending one quarter of life with it is sth else.
ReplyDeleteCastle will
ReplyDeleteNCIS. Gibbs forever!
ReplyDeleteThe Simpsons will outlive time itself.
ReplyDeleteSure, I was just wondering.
ReplyDeleteIMO only NCIS style shows that have the rating legs will go far but I think POI has the potential for a spin off.
ReplyDeleteLong live the head slap.
ReplyDeleteIts like the family guy crossover when Stewie asks Bart how long Nelson has been bulling him, 23 years LOL
ReplyDeleteThey can all have more than 20 seasons, but I think the problem is the actors and their payment, especially if the show is mega popular.
ReplyDeleteAny of the animated shows, those seem to be immune to cancellation.
ReplyDeleteSimpsons is already well over twice as long as some of these longest running shows. I very much doubt it will get beaten.
ReplyDeleteThey've stated multiple times that they will not be waiting on the books.
ReplyDeleteWhich is good because I don't believe the books will ever be finished.
Why is Supernatural winning? Both brothers will be grandfathers by the time they would be able to beat Simpsons :D
ReplyDeleteGame Of Thrones, The Walking Dead and The Simpsons.
ReplyDeleteCartoons excluded, my guess is that none of these shows actually beats SVU.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with your SPN reasoning, I think it will end within the next 2 seasons. I would guess at season 12 as being the last. I would not be shocked if season 11 was announced as the last at the May upfronts. I dont think CW will end up with a SPN spin off and I dont think Jared or Jensen will agree to keep going till CW find one they like.
ReplyDeletesometimes that fandom just vote for the show just because its an option
ReplyDeleteSlightly unclear question as some have pointed out already.
ReplyDeleteI interpretted it as the overall longest running as in which have the most seasons and voted NCIS, SVU and Simpsons.
Walking dead it will be over after 7 seasons ... i love walking dead but my opinion is if a show takes so long and so many years i think that it ends up to be boring and have nothing to show anymore example greys or supernatural etc etc...
ReplyDeleteI had to say Criminal Minds and Supernatural. After at least ten seasons, people still obsess about Supernatural, and everyone loves a good crime drama that dives into a violent criminal's psyche.
ReplyDeleteNo it won't next season is looking like it could be it's last, which will be it's 8th season. There are many shows just in these options that have gone passed that already.
ReplyDeleteOf the shows I watch, I voted for Supernatural and Bones. They have both been on the air for ten years and seem to have no end in sight.
ReplyDeleteGOT is ending in S8
ReplyDeleteWe already know PLL will end at S7 and that GOT will end at S8, so I voted for NCIS, TBBT and The Simpsons
ReplyDeleteMy children will see 70 yr old sam and dean still hunting monsters and dean still picking up women..now that would be awesome!
ReplyDeleteThe Walking Dead. Characters die off and new ones are always added, keeping it fresh. It will last because it is not so dependent on particular characters. If Rick should grow old, he could mentor another character to lead. Then he could die and we'd have a new leader. It's what kept E.R. on for so long--rotating cast of characters and in the end, none of the original cast remained.
ReplyDeleteEven if it ended next year, nothing here is going to beat The Simpsons. I mean the show is already on its 20-some odd year. Of the others NCIS is looking good to continue forever and I'm not sure if Supernatural will die until one of the actors falls down and breaks a hip.
ReplyDeleteI don't think even that would stop it, it wouldn't be the first time they put a character into the wheelchair.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch any of the producerals but aI voted for them. And Grey's Anatomy is probably gonna air for a while longer.
ReplyDeleteDo you think SVU will equal or surpass its mothership?
ReplyDeleteAll these cartoons can go on as long as they want to, but excluding them, let's see.
ReplyDeletePretty Little Lairs is ending. CSI has one last season at best. Bones, Grey's Anatomy, SVU, Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries can go on as long as the leads are on board and the ratings don't wane. However, I do think in 3-4 years they will all have ended. The Big Bang Theory, Criminal Minds, NCIS and Modern Family have all peaked but again, as long as the cast wants to continue, I think these shows can continue for at least 4-5 seasons. Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead can run for many more seasons, but since they're cable shows they are likeley to end at their creative peaks. Royal Pains and It's Always Sunny have been renewed for a few seasons but it's difficult to say since ratings don't matter that much for cable shows.
I think SVU will be on for the longest, and NCIS is a possibility.
Two different shıows, and it's not "running" for 51 years.
ReplyDeleteI don't think so. I think SVU will end this year or the next. But this is a very uneducated guess, I have no way to estimate how much the costs are becoming a factor.
ReplyDeleteHow does Game of thrones qualify as long-running? Unless you're comparing it to quickly-canceled new shows. Anyways, objectively speaking, TWD seems like it'll last for an another decade, thoughi i don't watch it. Different story if the question was "which show/s you'd like to see running longest?"
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite SPN motivator:
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite SPN motivators. I think it says it all.
ReplyDeleteHa! I think geriatic Supernatural could be a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteImagine the DVD Box Set of the last few seasons. "Supernatural's Senile Seasons"
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think it has two seasons left at most.
ReplyDeleteI voted for It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia cause it'll never get canceled because it is the network president's favorite show so as long as the actors wanna do it'll stay on the air. The Big Bang Theory because as long as the viewership stays high CBS will want it to stay on the air. And I voted for The Simpsons because at this point I think it'll stay on the air until one of the main voice actors is still with us.
ReplyDeleteSimpsons. Almost thirty seasons. It'll be the last to die.
ReplyDeleteLol yeah sure it'll totally best Simpsons for that.
ReplyDeleteAdventure Time? It's been on for six seasons. That's not really old.
ReplyDeleteSimpsons.
ReplyDeleteIsn't its actually run age like 30-something tops?
ReplyDeleteModern Famiky, The Walking Dead and The Simpsons.
ReplyDeleteWell technically yes, for run was 26 seasons year and now this run is heading into its 9th year but its still a huge achievement and I have no doubt the current run will out live most of the shows here.
ReplyDeleteI class it as 1 show (its in the same continuity) and its most likely going to live on longer than most shows listed for this poll.
ReplyDeleteI think it will end when Jensen Ackles decides to move on, the writers have shown they are willing to go on without Jared but not without Jensen.
ReplyDeleteSupernatural, The Simpsons, and Law and Order...my godddd. Those shows will outlive the human race. why? B/c they killed us. Lol
ReplyDeleteRegardless of the book releases, they could end up doing 7 seasons, 7 seasons and a movie, 8 seasons, 8 seasons and a movie, etc. GRMM would prefer they do a movie but I'd rather just have an 8th season.
ReplyDeleteSupernatural will never work without either brother. They are both just as important to the story and show. I have zero interest in starting a brother war here. It's exhausting.
ReplyDeleteNCIS, Supernatural and Law & Order SVU. Since USA is in full purge mode, I expect that Royal Pains days are numbered.
ReplyDeleteThe Simspsons, NCIS and L&O: SVU
ReplyDeleteThanks for choosing me at random :)
ReplyDeleteTo all those who have confusion, sorry if it weren't clear. By long-running I meant series that have been 5 seasons or longer. By 'last the longest', I meant which one will be the last one left on air u_u
Though I know Pretty Little Liars has confirmed season seven is the end, i'm not convinced. I included cartoons because they too are series, and every series on here is on or over five seasons long.
Like every series on here, long-running I defined as five seasons or more for the purpose of this poll. That's pretty long nowadays, to me.
ReplyDeleteGrey's anatomy all the way ! Shonda is a genius ! I mean even if we lost character that we loved (Burke,Izzie;George,Lexie,Christina ect..), she always manage to introduce new great character who fit very well with the other character and the story.(April,Jackson,Owen,Teddy, Jo ect..)
ReplyDeletePlus , the medical cases are always intriguing , the frienships are touching , the love stories are always real , like we can identify ourselves with them , and there is sometimes great action.
But more important, the level of acting is PERFECTION ! Love that show , i will never get tired to watch all of them !
I know. I'm not discounting that. But that doesn't really give in a fifty plus year history.
ReplyDeleteI complete disagree with you (so I agree with Nickolas). No one already said that next season will be the last. Second point: the poll was about "if a show will run the longest" and not if a show will be renewed. So, from my point of view, it will finish on season 15. :)
ReplyDeleteI can always hope , right!
ReplyDeleteH50!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIs The Simpsons the longest running show on this list? 26 years so far. Supernatual will have 11 seasons at least. Law & Order: SVU is in Season 16 so that also got my vote. CSI I think will end this year at 15 seasons. I've seen 1 episode of NCIS but they're up to 12 seasons. I know it's easy to keep the crime procedurals going but they really need to end Bones.
ReplyDeleteI could see The Walking Dead going for a while longer. I know they're doing a spin-off most likely and may wrap up the original show and end Rick's story but I think TWD could go on without Rick as the main character.
Game of Thrones won't run that long because it'll match the number of books.
Definitely Supernatural and the Simpsons. Even though Supernatural has run its course I could definitely see it going on for 10 more years. With regards to Pretty Little Liars, I hope to god that it doesnt run that long. Show desperately needs to end.
ReplyDeleteSupernatural of course and the Simpsons :P
ReplyDeleteWas confused by the definition of 'lasting the longest', so I went with which will have the longest run, and just voted The Simpsons. With how expensive scripted television gets to be as time goes on, I can't see any modern show running for over 26 seasons, which it would have to to beat the Simpsons.
ReplyDeleteNow, as far as which is farthest away from cancellation, I have no clue.
Total number of seasons? The Simpsons, of course, plus SVU and probably NCIS, which has the formula to go on and on, as long as Mark Harmon is willing. I think it may pass CSI.
ReplyDeleteFarthest from cancellation? Eh, still The Simpsons.
The Middle
ReplyDeleteThe Simpsons could last for decays because it'a an animated series.
ReplyDeleteThe Walking Dead is too good. And Family Guy and Modern Family are hilarious
ReplyDeleteIkr
ReplyDeleteHa! They all take place in a nursing home and the biggest twist of the episode is whether the evil is real or it is their dementia.
ReplyDeleteSpongebob Squarepants started May 1, 1999. So, in a few months, he'll be 16. The Simpsons has everyone beat. I would like Gibbs and Co. to stick around forever. "Gunsmoke was on for 20 years.
ReplyDeleteAgree the poll question is kinda confusing. "Which long-running series will last the longest" meaning the last to end(from now)? the one(s) with most seasons? because SUV has 16 seasons I think but NCIS(12) will end after it. Even though...either way it's pretty much guaranteed to be The Simpsons lol Homer outlives them all! D'OH!
ReplyDeleteMore thoughts:
-I don't think SUV will last much longer (won't beat original's 20 seasons)
-Bones IMHO has 1 or 2 seasons left (leaning towards next season being last)
-CSI likely ends next year
-PLL and TVD also gonna end in like a year or two I assume
- Criminal Minds I love you, but honestly think it's near the end of it's run (CBS might think similarly seeing how they tried Stalker and now try a spin-off). Anyway, seems incredibly hard to keep the cast on for much longer (most of them from season 1 and don't think it could last without them), I'm gonna guess season 12 it ends - which isn't a bad thing. I don't think TV shows should last forever.
- NCIS: we'll talk again after season 15 ;)
- SPN: I can see seasons 13-14 seasons at least lol wow :o
- Grey's Anatomy - which season it's at? 11? I can see Shonda trying to beat ER
all of them should be cancelled immediately
ReplyDeleteProbably the ones I don't watch. haha I always get attached to the ones on the chopping block.
