No it's not. The major arcs typically don't last more than 3 seasons (think Root's introduction, HR, Carter). Samaritan is a year or so in, but that doesn't mean there's plenty to come.
Introducing another machine wouldn't be a good move unless it was an international one from Russia or China (Samaritan is technically tied to China through Decima), but I'm also be game for a showdown with the NSA. The possibilities are endless.
I think Samaritan can be the endgame, if the writers get the note from CBS, but otherwise not necessary. It's true that because it is the direct opponent of the "highest rank" in the good guys, it won't be a small task to find another, similarly challenging enemy, but Nolan and his team has already been very creative and managed to surprise me, so I give them the credit of trust.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Samaritan thread would be closed by the end of this season. At this moment from Control's POV Samaritan is a live threat to the national security while the Team Machine is only a threat to the secrecy - I think it's not a question to her which one is the more dangerous.
So IMHO for the end of this season either Samaritan will be defeated (switched off from the feed), by the reluctant and temporary alliance between Control and the team, or Samaritan will erase Control and be the effective power of the country through its puppet politicians (like the elected governor). This later scenario is a little too scifi to me now, but can not be ruled out.
I think not. There may be a third machine in the future. There's a person (named Mate) who posts on TV.com's reviews of POI and the person's theory is that there will be three machines and he equates this machine mythology with three Greek/Roman gods (for the life of me I can't remember their names). He/she makes pretty good arguments about how a third machine may come into play later on in the series.
Hmmmm, you have to remember that POI has always held onto its procedural roots. Even in the most dire of times the team never stop saving people in danger, and I honestly can't see how a third machine could allow that to continue without the episodes being crammed. It would upset the already perfect balance IMHO
Yep. Completely trustworthy. Finch has called her a valued colleague and friend. And John hasn't killed her - in fact she has helped save his life. Now, how much more 'good' do you want her to be?

I believe that the Samaritan storyline will conclude with the season finale setting up the endgame for next year.
This show is known for its moral ambiguity. What if the New York Samaritan is destroyed but in the process, Samaritans are revealed around the world causing worldwide panic and hysteria creating to a worldwide 'Vigilance'. Meanwhile, The Machine is discovered and leaked to the outside leading to people rioting and banding together against the Machine. Team Machine's goals would have to change from protecting such and such to protecting the Machine. If all they stood for is turned around on them, would they go to protect the thing that started this in the first place?
The average show usually closes everything up by its fifth season - even Supernatural had a nice tight ending 5 years ago, but I'm not complaining it is still going. For POI, I don't see an antagonist topping Samaritan - it's going to take a hard left turn to continue into next season and end.
I don't think so. How long can the fo on with the Samaritan is destroying the machine storyline? We already reached a high point but we are still in the middle of season 4. And we get a season 5 for sure.
I don't see Samaritan itself as the endgame. Just tossing this out as a possibility--- suppose after Control helps rid Samaritan of its evil handlers it becomes benevolent - after all, its creator( Finch's friend who was sick) was a decent man and he did not design it for the nasty purposes of the people currently using it- and in some way becomes simpatico with Harold's machine or self destructs when it is shown by Harold that its own creator never intended it to act in this way - again, just musing . After all, as things are presently ,the team's machine is severely defanged by the limitations hiding from and fighting against Samaritan have put on it. This cannot continue as is because the team's resources are dwindling fast so either Harold has to come up with a mind blowing game stopper idea or Root will and sacrifice herself in doing so. I think Control will be crucial though. But then we would plotwise need one final giant threat to fight in the final season and the writers on this show are so brilliant that I have no earthly idea what they would come up with. As I said, just playing with ideas...
She is more a anti heroine, fights for a good cause by using any means. John and Shaw also fall under the anti hero/heroine tag as well, just not to the same level as r00t.
Harold's machine bonded with him as its creator. Suppose that deep in its core Samaritan bonded with its original benevolent creator too. And that Harold is able to reach that part of the machine's memory and trigger it.
No it's not as IMO Samaritan storyline will be wrapped up in this seasons finale I don't see how you could extend it into unknown terroirty aka as to how many more seasons the show will go on for and keep it interesting.
Hi, ivan. All I remember is that it was Harold's old friend who developed his own version of the machine. Then when Harold connected with him and found this out the man was in late stages of dementia but had moments of clarity - as he told Harold the woman pretending to be his wife was not his wife - turned out she had been planted with him to get the whereabouts of the info for the intelligence system Harold's old friend had created, which eventually became Samaritan. The team went on a chase to get to it first but Decima beat them by substituting the bank official in the vault where it was being kept.
I honestly don't know. For one thing keeping Samaritan is great giving us stories that keep us at the edge of our seats For another we thought that we saw everything and after last year's vigilance we didn't know what to expect and than came the brotherhood which does give Elias a run for it's money and still keep us at the edge of our seats :)
Redemption is the end game. Harold's for having the hubris in making the Machine in the first place without believing others would do the same. Reese for having maybe two deaths weighing on him First Carter now possibly Shaw. Root for blindly following her impulses. Fusco is fairly easy. He is a reformed crooked cop. So he has much to atone. So together it is these character's struggles which is the end game, It is played in the back drop of two vengeful godlike intelligence.

I'm glad my USD poll made it live. :) I've been asking myself that question for a while now - like others, I wasn't sure how they could possible raise the stakes after Samaritan's plot is over (in what way that might be, I don't know) - but they have done pretty amazing plot twists in the past, so I really think they could go one level higher. I don't think they'll just go back to procedural-like show mode and I don't really feel like Samaritan's plot will stretch at least to episode 5x22.
My personal guess is "No, but its resolution initiates the endgame plot(s) directly". I believe the fallout of Season 4 will pave the road to the end - in S5 or S6. Samaritan's plot itself will end, which doesn't necessarily mean it'll die. Whatever happens, I believe the final plotlines start at that point and develop to a big climax. (I actually submitted another poll about what you think how long POI should continue)
I'm fine with it as long as it's not permanent (which is what I was trying to say). :) I can't see the show going back to S1 format for a longer period of time.
I enjoy well written procedural episodes, though. Wouldn't be mad if we're getting some in the future. This might give some possibilties to deliver more John/Harold scenes, which I know many fans are longing for - or plenty of other 'little things' that might get lost during big plot arcs. There's still plenty of stuff to explore besides our two main plots - (they still have Young John's flashbacks, afaik). :)
Totally agree with you. I like the show so much better when it's serialized. I didn't enjoy season 1 that much. I thought season 3 was the best season.so far. But a procedural episode is good once in a while to slow down the pace. Which we desperately need after that trilogy that lasted five episoes long LOL :)
As mel Gibsons character said in Payback...you go high enough there is always one man. Remember in season 2 Greer answered to people, he has a boss. So we do not know if Greers boss could be the next big bad. Do POI do a season of taking on all the big bads that got away during the previous seasons? Does POI spend a season taking down the government?
There are so many ways the story can continue. Who knows. I cannot wait to be surprised.

I think it probably is. Which is fine by me, because POI has really upped the quality since Samaritan was introduced.
