Stefan is like 150. Does Caroline really think he doesn't know anyone outside of Mystic Falls? He was missing for like 4 months at the start of the season and he had a girlfriend so he could have made a friend. Also remember the flashbacks to 1920s Stefan? I kind of doubt Lexi, Klaus & Rebekah are the only friends he's ever made in his life prior to meeting Elena.
Because he keeps on focusing on other people's lives instead of his own, and the last time he tried to focus on himself he was heavily criticized for it?
That's sort of the point. She's known Stefan for about four years now and there's been no mention of other people in his life. No calls, no visitors, nothing. He may know other people but they're obviously not close. So, basically, Caroline is right.
Am I the only one who is having a hard time liking Stefan this season? I'm not a shipper so I really don't care who he spends his time with, but the lying is insane. He keeps telling huge lies and acting like he can't trust anyone, even though his friends have proven themselves trustworthy time and again. I'm not sure if this is something new the writers are trying to keep Paul Wesley happy, or if it's still part of Stefan's character development after all of the events in Season 5. There's so much distance between Stefan and the other characters right now that Season 7 could probably thrive with or without Paul Wesley.
I am glad that Caroline is getting such an interesting and important story. I just wish that Stefan didn't have to be in it with her. The Sarah Salvatore thing seems like a plot device to give Enzo something to do, while Enzo is a plot device to give Matt something to do. There are too many series regulars this season. I'll be glad to see this sorted out by May when probably a lot of contracts will expire. JP said to expect a lot of death throughout the next 12 episodes, and I'm inclined to take that seriously.
Damon returned for Katherine. He was supposed to rescue her from the grave on the night of the comet, at the beggining of the season 1. I don't know about Stefan. Maybe he was back in Mystic Falls to tell Zach his daughter was alive. Then the brothers met Elena and you know...
You have hit the nail on the head....I have been saying for years that Stefan keeps himself at a distance - Why? What is he hiding? He was this great - cute - popular guy in high school and yet he had no friends? Other then his time with Caroline we rarely saw him interact much with anyone but Elena, and if he did it was for Elena. Damon befriended Liz, Tyler's Mom, Alaric, Meredith, Sage, Rose, Enzo and now Bonnie. Heck, even Tyler and Matt referred to Damon as a friend (at times) to Liv/Luke but no mention of Stefan. Not sure if the writers are intentionally keeping his true character a mystery and are going to reveal something big about him later. I do remember Elena calling Stefan out in S1 - Saying he was a "mystery" guy but with mystery comes secrets. Are Stefan's secrets going to be revealed by Enzo and will it be BIG?
I don't think Stefan has any secrets. he was basically hating himself for 150 years ever since he forced Damon to turn and then became the Reaper. Damon has been torturing him with this ever since and even now that Stefan claims Damon is "not the same person" because he stopped torturing him, Damon still never even apologized for what he did to Stefan all these years. I suspect they're only making Enzo torture Stefan out of jealousy so Damon would realize how badly he treated him also out of jealousy of Stefan and Katherine.
Stefan compelled Zach to forget about his daughter, which Zach might have given permission for because he could have wanted his daughter to be safe from a life involving vampires. It's true that Damon wanted Katherine back, but no one knows why Stefan came back so soon. He claims that he was just drawn there and he said pretty words later on about being there to meet Elena, but that might turn out to be just one more big lie that he's told. The ones that he's telling now could be leading up to it. I know that Markos manipulated doppelgangers so that they would be drawn to each other, but that doesn't explain Tom living a normal life in Atlanta. I think Stefan and Katherine were the pair that were drawn to each other from the start, and it was a coincidence that Stefan ran into Elena. Everything that went wrong starting in Season 1 was due to Damon's behavior- and the brothers' fighting- attracting too much attention. Then the Originals showed up and left, leaving the doppelgangers and the town in general vulnerable to any kind of attack.
might be true about Stefan and Katherine. we know that she crossed paths with him more than once but never revealed herself. but then she's never coming back so..
The doppelganger prophecy is over, so now we get to see both Stefan and Elena move on with their lives as best they can. In my opinion, the body-switching mythology should have been saved for getting Stefan and Elena out of their doppelganger bodies. Now that the mythology has been abused on TO, I don't know if TVD writers will have the nerve to do it again. What's sad is that Stefan and Elena will always be targeted by witches because of the power in their blood, and being vampires on top of that guarantees that they'll never live normal lives.
I don't think that popularity makes someone a better person, and I also think that Damon's interactions with more characters is partially a product of the writers being partial to the character and giving him more lines. I also don't think that Damon was particularly that wonderful to all the people mentioned. A lot of those contacts were developed out of necessity (e.g. Liz, when he wanted to know what was occurring in the council). He also, killed Tyler's brother and threatened to kill Jeremy on a number of occasions to get what he wanted, so I think really don't think that either character sees much in him. The relationship with Rose developed partially because they were sleeping together. Also, Damon was awful to Bonnie, until they were forced to be together for a while, so he doesn't get credit for that either.. I actually like both Damon and Stefan equally but for different reasons and I would never in a million years, consider Damon to be a better person than Stefan.
It think that viewers are very hard on Stefan, whereas they tend to forgive Damon more readily, Stefan's character is also not a favourite with the writers, which is why he hasn't gotten a great story (if they wanted to please they would just write better stories for him). Unlike Damon, Stefan is an introvert and a loner and seems less willing to let people into his life. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Also, I think that Stefan also has more of a conscience than Damon and is more likely to torture and punish himself for things that in the past than Damon. And somehow this extends to viewers and other characters, where Damon seems to get away with a lot.(eg. Enzo forgiving Damon for leaving him to burn in the prison and for killing his girlfriend, but hating Stefan for keeping some secret). Plus, Damon has friends, but most of them aren't really that close.
With regards to why Stefan is such a loner, my theory is that he's been burned too many times, His closest friends and acquaintances over the years, have been Elena, Lexi, his nephew Zach, Damon, Katherine, Caroline and maybe Klaus and Rebeckah and he lost almost half of those friends because of Damon, who killed Lexi and Zach to spite Stefan, and then won over Elena. Katherine and Klaus were both manipulative and and Klaus daggered Rebekah for a century or so. Damon is better, now, but he certainly had a history of making Stefan miserable and hurting everyone around him (which probably goes back to resentment over Katherine loving Stefan more), I'm not surprised that Stefan went to such huge attempts to keep Zach's daughter a secret from Damon, who would might just kill her (There might also be financial incentive, such as who would inherit the Salvatore mansion, etc). I also think it's interesting that Damon killed Lexi out of spite, yet Stefan want to huge attempts to not hurt Enzo for Damon's sake and despite his dislike for Enzo, went to great extents to rescue him when he realized that Damon was alive Anyway, Stefan tends to put others before himself, which is why I think he's such a good character.
I think this bears repeating. The world isn't divided into Stefan fans and Damon fans, or Stelena shippers and Delena shippers. This show has a very diverse fan base including people who don't care for either of the Salvatore brothers right now. I think the misconceptions that lead to fans getting defensive about their favorite characters come from fan sites and social networking groups that encourage fans to divide into groups like Team Damon and Team Stefan. This is why I always carefully consider what I type and don't lose sight of the fact that these are fictional characters in stories that can change at any time at the whims of writers. I like to discuss the storytelling, and sometimes character development, but I don't get into arguments and I don't get involved in ongoing internet debates about specific characters or relationships.
I guess that is my entire point...if Damon is the bad brother and Stefan the hero, why do we see Damon developing more friendships than Stefan? Damon could have killed Liz in the Lockwood cellars when she found out Damon/Stefan were vampires, He could have Killed Rose w/o the beautiful dream (guys that just hook-up with women do not do sensitive things like that), Damon was with Ric when he took his last breath in the cemetery and honored his empty seat at the bar, Damon could have just killed Abbey (which BTW was Stefan's responsibility) but he turned her into a vampire instead, Damon/Bonnie bonded during the 4 mths they were together - if Bonnie hated Damon so much she could have easily killed him and she would have never sacrificed herself so Damon could go home etc...etc...etc....I get the writers are producing these story line's but Why - I think they have kept Stefan's character distant for a reason and Enzo is the key to opening the skeletons in Stefan's closet.
Sorry, I disagree - I still think Elena was spot on when she told Stefan in S1 that he is "the mystery guy" but with "mystery" comes secrets - I think Stefan has secrets that possible Damon or Lexi never knew. I guess time will tell.
I loved the early bonding between big Jer. and Damon...coaching him on how to whittle so cute. Still think Stefan is a mystery and Enzo could be the one to discover the true Stefan. The one person who may know might be Klaus. Klaus is very careful about who he takes under his wing, I am sure Klaus knows all Stefan's secrets.
No I don't think he focuses on everyone else's lives, because if he did he would have more friends. He helped others only for Elena's or Damon's sake. When did he do something with or for any of the characters out of the goodness of his own heart...I am having trouble finding 1 example....something similar to the dream Damon gave Rose...or when Damon visited Alaric in jail or when Damon picked Alaric up from the hospital etc....
I think the whole thing is stupid, and we're so past that. It's just some dumb plot device to keep Enzo around, b/c he has nothing to do. (Rolls eyes)...I mean c'mon he ruins Stefan's life, just so he can "fall in love" with Stefan's great niece or w/e she is. Yeahhh that's interesting.
That's like asking why no one bothered to kill off Klaus! Because the writers wanted the character to stay alive!!! Period. . By the way, I never said Damon was bad and Stefan was good. I just said that a lot of viewers tend to see good in every bad thing Damon does and tend to demonize every little thing that Stefan does. BTW, Damon sacrificed Abbey's life for the sake of Elena and then "made up" for it by making her a vampire. Whereas, Stefan objected to using Bonnie and her mother in the first place. And given that both Damon and Stefan spent the better part of this series trying to prevent Elena from becoming a vampire (often by hurting others), its hilarious for anyone to say that Damon was actually doing Bonnie's mother a favor. If Stefan's story turns dark, it won't be because the writers planned it all along. It will be because viewers hate his character and Plec gives viewers what they want.
But having mysteries and secrets still doesn't make someone bad. Plus both Damon and Stefan have secrets that they weren't proud of and many of these secrets have been revealed along the way. We know about Stefan's ripper past. So it can't get worst than that. And we know about all the people Damon killed for vengeance or to hurt Stefan, or just because he didn't care, so it can't get much worst for Damon either. I have no idea why Stefan is keeping Sarah a secret, but I'm pretty sure that whatever it is, will result in a huge overreaction from the fandom.
I agree 100%. That clip with Enzo trying to be principled about brother's keeping secrets from brothers is just one of those ridiculously hypocritical Enzo comments that make me wish they would just kill off the character. I think if they try to give the character any more screen time, I'll have to dump the show. It's bad enough that they figured out a way to keep Bonnie out of the plot for multiple episodes. Enzo hanging around will be the last straw.
I wanted him dead long time ago. This just....increases that wish. I'm sorry you fill you'll have to drop the show. Maybe come back when he's dead. Lol I'm hoping he kicks the bucket before the season ends.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteBecause he keeps on focusing on other people's lives instead of his own, and the last time he tried to focus on himself he was heavily criticized for it?

ReplyDeleteThere you are. Did you see the video I sent you yesterday? It was like 3am. lol

ReplyDeleteyeah you're right, Damon was actually a lot closer to The Gilbert Family essentially, Jenna(when she was alive), Alaric, Jeremy and Elena
ReplyDeleteYeah sorry about that, sometimes I forget to check my disqus page. I thought it was good, but not as good as the last one.
ReplyDeleteBrother figure only. Alaric is the father figure.
ReplyDeleteLast one. (This was another I found that night) As I think you like story telling ones with more depth. Tell me what you think of this one??
