Wow The CW gave up on this faster than they gave up on the disaster Cult back in 2013. I really thought Reign was the one going to Friday before the axe came down upon it.
All this really means is that CBS studios chose Reign over The Messengers hence why Reign has been renewed and The Messengers will almost certainly be cancelled in May.
That actually looks not bad. Now I feel really bad about the death slot, although I'm still more excited about iZombie. Although it's Fitz from the Lizzie Bennett Diaries in it, and apparently Jason Dohring, so I need to give it a shot.
Looks better than Cult, but of course the guy playing the preacher has to have a bad southern accent. Not surprised that most of the comments on here are positive, genre fans will go for anything regardless of quality.
Why? Just why. Fridays? And I was hoping it was going to air after The Flash. I feel so frustrated right now. I was so exited about this show after seeing the pilot. Just... pff.
No wonder his accent sounds off. Brits do well playing Americans with the standard American accent, they dont do as well when they have to have a regional specific American accent.
It looks awesome!! I still don't understand why cw put it on friday. Maybe cw see Syfy's Friday show(Z nation, Helix) manage to have good rating, so cw decide to put a fantasy show on friday to test it out?? Btw what is the background music in the promo??
Holy shit, this looks freaking amazing. If The Messengers is going down this season then I'll be going down with it till the end. I've always been interested in angels, the apocalypse, the rapture, etc. so this is right up my alley.
now it is very messed up that they're dumping it on Fridays, damn it, this looks like a awesome show whoa and who the hell is The Man? they'll come to you you're insane
I have to give the CW the benefit of the doubt over this. All the fall shows except for The 100 have full seasons, leaving only 1 non-Friday spot available for iZombie and The Messenger to fought over with.
It is possible that by May, Fridays at 8pm is where they will slot BATB so at least TM won't be alone, genre-wise.
The trouble I think with move Reign midseason to a day later is that I don't think Canada's MuchMusic won't follow suit considering they air new episodes a day ahead of the US broadcast at Wednesdays. Lots of potential for pirates to make torrents of the show available for a full day which could hurt the show's low, but consistent, numbers.
I don't think it's that bad that they have put in on a Friday night. They put The Originals on a Monday and normally TV shows go there to die, yet The Originals is still being stable in ratings, it's not doing too bad, but not doing too good, it's just somewhere in the middle that kept it safe from cancellation. The CW didnt expect it to do as well as it doing right now, so I think they are trying this on out too, as Originals have already proved Fans will turn in to see the show, regardless of the day/time. x
But the thing is,TO didn't start out in the death slot.Only when it performed steadily, they put it on monday.Besides,it was a spin-off of their previous flagship show,so they already had a built-in fan-base from start. But TM is a completely new show with no such advantages attached to it.So,putting them in that death slot is going to kill them even before they have any chance.I really hope i'm wrong but TBH,i really think they need a miracle to succeed in that slot!
Unless of course some US viewers fancy getting their hands on the episode once Canada airs them 2 days before the US telecast (whereas the current model has Canada airing a new Reign episode only a day ahead at the moment).
Like I said, that doesn't effect the ratings. Castle aired a full day earlier last season and Grey's aired a day earlier for the first half in Canada, but it did not effect the ratings.
The Mentalist has been airing 3 days earlier for the first few episode and now that it airs a day earlier on US than Canada, the ratings are still the same.
I guess it just really depends if any of the shows you mentioned are among the most pirated downloaded shows and how much piracy is taking away a portion of potential Nielsen viewers away from watching live. I've seen clips of US shows bearing Canadian TV logos popping out on Youtube so it's something to be really concerned off.
The trailer looks interesting but the friday night slot for a brand new show, and the early renewal of few others , is highly suspicious - I don't buy it .Sounds like CW is not totally sold on the finished product . It's a wait and see.
Why do people presume this is Friday burn off? Ever heard of Grimm? BattleStar Galactica? Haven? I'm betting the CW really wants this to work, and they hope it will revive their Friday @ 9PM time slot.
Note that this will premier directly after Whose Line Is it Anyway, which will be at 8:30. Also note, the Friday schedule seems to be aimed at an older audience than the network's Mon-Thur shows.
Because while Grimm does ok for NBC Fri,most shows premiring on Fri flop,,CW targets 18-34 demo that aren't home fri night to watch tv and if they wanted Mesengers to survive they would've given it a better timeslot.Youre right about it getting WL leadin though.Still, this is equivalent CW putting Star-Crossed on Mon-low rated night for thenpm then-& against Olympics.Messengers will also Likley not get much oronotion-that will go to hit new show Fladh,GG winner Jane and IZombie.CW seems to have more faith in IZombie cause they gave it a good leadin and a good timeslot. There's a good reason fri is called" death slot/tv graveyard".-it's mostly low rated show awaiting/approaching syndicattion or burn off of a failed show or againg shows fibpve seasons or older, not new shows a network has confidence/faith in & hope for.
Whenever they release the top pirated shows of the year, there's usually three or four CW shows on there. If I recall correctly the one released just a few days ago mentioned something like The Vampire Diaries is pirated over 25 million times, that's a lot of people, and yes most of them are in other countries but if a CW show is available online two full days before it airs I find it hard to believe it wouldn't affect the ratings at least by a point, The CW's target audience more than anyone are going to the ones who are the most likely to pirate.
I could easily be wrong, but I still think The CW is more likely than ABC to experience a negative result of episodes being available online early.
Logic tells me I should be more excited for iZombie... it's from one of my favorite television writers and looks like a lot of fun, not to mention, it's getting a pretty good timeslot. But god damn, this show feels like it's gonna rank up there with Agent Carter as my favorite new broadcast drama of this season. IT LOOKS AMAZING. So much so that I don't even care about iZombie ATM. I am already uneasy about the Friday night death slot but I will still watch it, hell I intend to buy the season pass on Google the minute they make it available for purchase.
I assumed it was put there to die but over the past few days there have been quite a few rumors that the CW is interested in pushing Friday's again. It will be interesting to see how much promotion the series is given, I think that will be a good indicator as to whether the CW is set to support it or not.
Really? What made you think the pilot was bad? I thought it was one of the better ones I've seen in the past few years and that was based off the rough cut, the final version was much more polished.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
They might have put it on Friday to die but that is one hell of a trailer. Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteLooks good, but still i expected something better (of course this is only trailer, so it could change)
ReplyDeleteBased on trailers, i am glad they gave better time slot to iZombie
Can't wait for this!
ReplyDeletePoor The Messengers.I feel for ya!
ReplyDeleteI don't know why they put it on Friday. Such a shame.
ReplyDeleteRaina we will fight for this show!
ReplyDeleteThe trailer looks amazing! Can't wait for the show to happen. Love the cast, love the vibe, love the evil dude.
Yes! I'm with you. :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks really good but I'm scared to get invested because it's airing in the Friday night death slot.
ReplyDeleteMore than double the length of the iZombie promo.Wow
ReplyDeleteBetter than expected. It's a shame it's probably DOA.
ReplyDeleteI bet that's what a lot of people will think. They killed their own show before premiere.
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing the trailer I am even more annoyed they put this on Friday, it looks really good,
ReplyDeleteBecause it's the only trailer they'll release.
ReplyDeleteWhy is this show on a friday death slot?
ReplyDeleteWow. That looks really good! Even in the Friday death slot they gave it I'll be checking it out.
ReplyDeleteWow The CW gave up on this faster than they gave up on the disaster Cult back in 2013.
ReplyDeleteI really thought Reign was the one going to Friday before the axe came down upon it.

Right? That was a GREAT promo. Hopefully TM can stick it to The CW and get half decent ratings on Fri. I'm rooting for it. :))
ReplyDeleteIt looks so good, why does it have to be on fridays :(
ReplyDeleteThat actually looks not bad. Now I feel really bad about the death slot, although I'm still more excited about iZombie. Although it's Fitz from the Lizzie Bennett Diaries in it, and apparently Jason Dohring, so I need to give it a shot.
ReplyDeleteIt looks absolutely amazing it's a 100 type show but too bad it's dead I'm still going to watch it though I'm excited to learn more!
ReplyDeleteI just cant believe they put this on friday WTH are they thinking?
ReplyDeleteSucks they put it on Friday. Giving up on a show before it airs is stupid.
ReplyDeleteThis really looks awesome, how could they put it in death slot? Dammit,CW!
ReplyDeleteLooks better than Cult, but of course the guy playing the preacher has to have a bad southern accent. Not surprised that most of the comments on here are positive, genre fans will go for anything regardless of quality.

ReplyDeleteThe actor is British though. This is my first time hearing a redneck played by a British guy.
ReplyDeleteThis definitely looks like its gonna be awesome
ReplyDeleteBut its gonna have to compete with Aos which is another comic book show
ReplyDeleteNo wonder his accent sounds off. Brits do well playing Americans with the standard American accent, they dont do as well when they have to have a regional specific American accent.
ReplyDeleteIt looks awesome!! I still don't understand why cw put it on friday. Maybe cw see Syfy's Friday show(Z nation, Helix) manage to have good rating, so cw decide to put a fantasy show on friday to test it out??

ReplyDeleteWhoa this looks awesome. Very strange that the CW seems to have the best lineup of shows of ANY network in my opinion.
ReplyDeletenow it is very messed up that they're dumping it on Fridays, damn it, this looks like a awesome show whoa and who the hell is The Man? they'll come to you you're insane

I think CW could have moved Reign(show that is struggling in ratings) and put The Messengers there.

It looks really good! Looks pretty high budget for a Friday show.
ReplyDeleteBut the thing is,TO didn't start out in the death slot.Only when it performed steadily, they put it on monday.Besides,it was a spin-off of their previous flagship show,so they already had a built-in fan-base from start. But TM is a completely new show with no such advantages attached to it.So,putting them in that death slot is going to kill them even before they have any chance.I really hope i'm wrong but TBH,i really think they need a miracle to succeed in that slot!
ReplyDeleteAiring earlier in another country never hurts the US ratings.

ReplyDeleteLooking forward to this.
ReplyDeleteI thought that the plot seemed really bad but Dang, this trailer is awesome!

Or maybe just have different opinions than you do. But your careful thoughtfulness is truly impressive.
