Paul is always so optimistic and lies about everything and it's hilarious in a sad way. I don't know why I expected anything different this time. LOL.
ReplyDeleteStop this madness Paul Lee! Either renew or announce the end of Revenge, but don't do this!
ReplyDeleteIf no decision is taken now the show is most likely going to wind up cancelled :(
This was the most boring exec session so far. No renewals, no premiere date for The Whispers. He didn't even have the guts to say that it's Revenge's final season. He was all like "we love this, we love that".
ReplyDeletePfft.
Why do you say that? It's probably going to be on the bubble, but I wouldn't say being not renewed now means it's definitely canceled.
ReplyDeleteWhy wouldn't he put a positive spin on things? That's kinda his job lol.
ReplyDeleteThe show got a 0.9 and then a 0.8; that's a cancellation
ReplyDeleteWays to reinvent REV. Please. If that were the case (and it would've been interesting to turn it into more of an anthology series focused on the Hamptons), that should've started mid S3. They went all-in on David Clarke being alive and now the "brand" has been permanently tarnish. It's a real shame because the format could've been so much more.
ReplyDeleteBut there's other factors - whether their midseason stuff is a success, how pilot development goes, etc. I just don't see how it not being renewed now means it's for sure canceled.
ReplyDeleteSurprised American Crime is an anthology as well. Interesting. I mean it is an interesting concept but can't imagine what they do in S02.
ReplyDeleteWhen does basketball premiere then?
ReplyDeleteI'm seriously mad at him right now! This is Revenge's final season. Unless he is thinking moving it to another network or ABC is about to get a huge syndication package for it, the show is not coming back, not after hitting 0.8.
ReplyDeleteThe best thing he could have done is announce the final season, or the renewal if there was something to gain from it, but now the show is going to continue, he is giving false hope to the writers, and unless the writers realize that this is BS, the fans (me included) are going to get royally screwed
What is this TGIT?
ReplyDeleteI know but trying to spin Revenge making it another season was side-eye worthy. LOL.
ReplyDeleteABC's Thursday Shondaland block. Stands for "Thank God It's Thursday".
ReplyDeleteIt's their branding of Thursday nights (Grey's, Scandal, HTGAWM) - Thank God It's Thursday.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds more positive about revenge. Not only the ratings count, don't forget. All they Café about is money and syndication so there is a tiny chance. That there are strong episodes ahead is good for us Fans :)
ReplyDeleteThis tweet best defines him: https://twitter.com/rcatlin/status/555424411134590977
ReplyDeleteAgreed why give fans false hope and jerk them around only to have it end on a cliffhanger
ReplyDeleteBecause as soon as the rest of the shows come back coming end January and March Revenge's ratings will be among the lowest.
ReplyDeleteIt is already the lowest rated show on the network along with Ressurection; they already have 88 episodes for syndication, and while additional 12 would be good for a better syndication package, unless they secure a huge one, the show is most likely done. The only way for it to be saved would be:
1-Be moved to other outlets suchs as Netflix or a cable network.
2-Be secured a syndication package of over 1 million per episode - which is highly unlikely.
If Revenge can't secure any of those scenarios, it is going to get cancelled, because its ratings are way too dreadful
I am surprised you don't know
ReplyDeleteTrue but i do know that Paul Lee likes revenge
ReplyDeleteSo NBC has Thanks God It's Friday and ABC has the same thing but one day earlier?
ReplyDeleteMy guess....the writers are going to end the season with a resolution to the Grayson storyline but have a cliffhanger that will set up a reboot of the series if it were to get a season 5.
ReplyDeleteHe does, but he also liked Happy Endings, and Trophy Wife, and look at how that ended
ReplyDeleteI don't watch ABC shows. Checked this article to see if they announced sth new.
ReplyDeleteYeah it is not what they "say" because the network execs love all of their shows even after they are cancelled.
ReplyDeleteWell yeah but they were not about to reach 100 episodes if they got a short final season
ReplyDeleteI hope they do that, something that can serve either as a series or season finale.
ReplyDeleteSo apparently, NBA finals begin airing on June 4 on ABC, so The Whispers being summer is now confirmed.
ReplyDeleteBut there ain't no Grayson left though... (I know Conrad is planning on his revenge but he doesn't count. Lol)
ReplyDeleteIf they dont than the writers are less than intelligent.
ReplyDeleteOh okay, abc has some great shows though
ReplyDeleteThat is really stupid. Hopefully they heavily promote it
ReplyDeleteBy Graysons I meant Victoria and the betrayal of David Clarke that the entire series is based on.
ReplyDeleteI am sure there are many cliffhangers they could end on
ReplyDeleteIf Paul lee thinks that revenge could be reinvented. Then not just move to a different timeslot where it's ratings will get better enough to get it a final season.
ReplyDeletePaul Lee doing the same bs he did in the summer. Not gonna lie I expected better
ReplyDeleteAs i said he likes revenge, despite the low ratings
ReplyDeleteI know, but I doubt Paul Lee's love for the show can justify a renewal at these ratings; Kevin Reilly wanted to renew Almost Human and Enlisted and was stopped by his higher bosses. Paul Lee has to answer to similar people, and they are not going to allow him renew a show just out of the goodness of his heart without a reason.
ReplyDeleteAnd that reason is how much of a big syndication package Revenge can get: due to its low ratings, Revenge will sell based on what the name once meant, on its former hit status, and I don't have much confident on how much money they can make out of it: if they make 1 million per episode you can expect the show to be renewed, but if it is anything below 500k per episodes I doubt there is financial justification for a renewal. So it all bodes down to how well of a syndication package they can get for Revenge, and it's not looking good at all
Cheers for the info Babar.
ReplyDeleteYeah true! But those are things we will obviously not find out until may -_-
ReplyDeleteI hope they at least give Revenge a final chapter next season if if it's just 8 episodes or something.
ReplyDeleteAlso it seems there is not much faith in The Whispers or FOTB. Hoping for the best because both shows have great casts.
Re-invent? Sounds like inevitable cancellation to me!
ReplyDeleteBy then the show may be cancelled and ended in a cliffhanger; that's why I wanted so bad for they to make an announcement one way or the other :/
ReplyDeleteI agree I hope so too but did they explain that 23rd episode revenge received yesterday?
ReplyDeleteTGIF was also ABC.
ReplyDeleteDid they explain why revenge is receiving a 23rd episode this season? Series finale? Season finale?
ReplyDeleteThank god it's thiursday.A promotional tagline for their thurs line up-GA,Scandal & HTGAWM.
ReplyDeleteHe says that for everything.
ReplyDeleteIf that were the case Paul Lee should have just said this is the final season.
ReplyDeleteLeaving the door open is bad because then it may end on a cliff hanger this season.
Double episode finale.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a very bad move; Revenge has very low chances of coming back, so unless he is like 99% they can make it work, he should have gone for the final season announcement
ReplyDeleteI had a feeling it would not happen but TBH i think the writers already know the fate of the show and If this is thr case ir would be nice if they told their fans
ReplyDeleteNow I'm confused.
ReplyDeleteTrue
ReplyDeleteWell, that's true. I mean, if I were looking at these ratings right now, I'd call all the other writers and say: "guys, we're not going to make it. Paul Lee is giving us BS false hope, so let's craft and ending, and let's leave the door open for a short final season should a miracle occur"
ReplyDelete13 episodes of Resurrection + 10 episodes of Secrets & Lies, means Revenge airs originals behind all of them.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you see that?
ReplyDeleteTwitter
ReplyDeleteBecause we know better. Revenge isn't going to be reinvented
ReplyDeleteOr if secrets and lies manages to premiere high and revenge manages to go back to at least a1.2-1.3 levels out of its lead in it could be a maybe
ReplyDeleteThey're usually not my cup of tea
ReplyDeleteThe best they can do in this situation is craft a finale that acts as an ending, but that also leaves the door open in case a miracle happens; Chuck did that every season and every season finale was great, and would have worked as an splendid series ender
ReplyDeleteI expect no less. Network PR is 99% BS 100% of the time.
ReplyDeleteNBC had Must See TV on Thursdays.
ReplyDeleteWhen did they say that?
ReplyDeleteIt was all PR talk. So boring.
ReplyDeleteThat's true, should Secrets and Lies pull a Resurrection-esquee premiere Revenge is going to benefit from that, and the fact that they are similar in tone could also help. But it's still a big IF, for all we know Secrets and Lies could flop
ReplyDeleteCan you link the tweet so I can confirm with ABC.
ReplyDeleteActually, ignore me! Secrets & Lies has a two hour premiere, so Joy Haldar is right, this means 2 hour finale for Revenge.
ReplyDeleteIf he wants to make it work and get better ratings he should just move it to a better timeslot to at least get ratings that will get it a final season. That's the only way I see revenge being saved a better timeslot and lead in
ReplyDeleteRevenge didn't get an extra episode, it only has 22 episodes this season
ReplyDeleteJust search TGIF on wikipedia
ReplyDeleteAnd WCW - Woman Crush Wednesdays.
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/karterhol/status/555088971102179328
ReplyDeleteRevenge should have been an anthology from the start.
ReplyDeleteI know, I was suprised & Dissapointed by his Nashville response.Lucky it'll be back for syndication.
ReplyDeleteCan you pinpoint the source of this info,i can't find it anywhere!
ReplyDeleteNow, that one I did not know.
ReplyDeleteI saw that and laughed
ReplyDeleteThe premise sounds intresting. So I'm definitely checking it out. It will be on at 9 after ouat so there is a chance that it will premiere decently. But like u said that's a big if
ReplyDeleteDon't tell me this is all they're saying?
ReplyDeleteHe likes everything every year. The fact that he likes it isn't going to save the show despite the low ratings because he liked Trophy Wife too and look what happened to that.
ReplyDeleteThis was all Paul Lee said, yes.
ReplyDeleteIt's all just a bunch of PR talk.
I found the tweet linked on its Wiki page. I believe this is it
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/karterhol/status/555088971102179328
You can't expect more from paul lee!
ReplyDeleteAnd this guy is a writer on Revenge?
ReplyDeleteHe can't really say he doesn't like something. I mean, it would look bad if the head of ABC spoke badly of one of their shows.
ReplyDeleteYeah. Wiki credits him as writer on a few episodes.
ReplyDeleteTed is on the writing staff of the show, right?
ReplyDeleteNothing about HTGAWM, Revenge, or Cristela?
ReplyDeleteYes he is
ReplyDeleteYep, he is
ReplyDeleteI see NBC tweeting it out. They even released a promo for it in the fall http://www.spoilertv.com/2014/08/nbc-wednesdays-new-promo-woman-crush.html
ReplyDeleteThat takes balls which he doesn't have.sorry for the language!
ReplyDeleteThere is tons about revenge but nth about a cancellation or final season announcement
ReplyDeleteNo TGIT show was spoken individually (the only thing said is that he will do what he can to ensure Scandal and GA will air for as long as possible).
ReplyDeleteAnd Revenge's talk is in the post above.
Other than that, no.
Thanks, I'll email ABC now asking for confirmation.
ReplyDeleteThx a lot!
ReplyDeleteWhen did ABC order an extra episode? I remember when they ordered extra episodes for OUAT, Grey's, Scandal and comedies, but they didn't give one to Revenge nor Nashville because of their ratings. Now they reverted that decision?
ReplyDeleteAlso, he credits Scandal's ratings surge to binge-watching (through Netflix and similar).
ReplyDeleteThey didn't ordered an extra episode for Scandal.
ReplyDeleteJust did, thanks
ReplyDeleteThat may have helped, but then OUAT ratings should be as huge or even higher considered is Netflix's most watched show alongside The Blacklist
ReplyDeleteI have no Idea. I saw @Revenge and OUAT mention it below, so I checked around. That tweet is the only reference I can find to it. Babar is emailing ABC now for confirmation.
ReplyDeleteHe says serialized benefit the most from this. And there were also discussions on a mix with the traditional and the new way of viewing (namely, Twitter)
ReplyDeletePaul Lee doesn't have a clue what he's renewing/cancelling and it shows. That's why he loves everything.
ReplyDeleteThat would have worked last season; when it hit a 1.8 on January on its own this is what should have happened:
ReplyDeleteThursdays:
Grey's
Scandal
Revenge
Sunday
OUAT
Resurrection
OUAT in Wonderland/Filler
Should Revenge have been given the post Scandal slot it would have experienced a huge surge, and we may have seen more OUAT spin off seasons if it surged after Resurrection which was compatible and huge at the time.
Now with Revenge's extra low ratings I see it hard moving it anywhere else, unless the slot opens for Fridays at 10 and it can air after Shark Tank, but that's not going to happen
ABC will air the finals starting June 4.
ReplyDeleteHe is as far as Wikipedia says. Credited with writing or co-writing 8 episodes between seasons 2-4.
ReplyDeleteIt does feel like they've stretched out some of the ideas. Plus, David being alive after all is just ridiculous - invalidates the whole premise of the show! (saying that, I am still addicted)
ReplyDeleteI'll also be watching, so I hope it is a big hit, but it's not very likely, it takes some luck
ReplyDeleteI've been saying that ever since he was promoted as a regular.
ReplyDeleteLee has a real talent to say nothing with a whole lot of words.
ReplyDeleteSo The Whispers is now a summer show... well, at least it will start out of basketball
ReplyDeleteThey did the biggest mistake by showing david is alive!
ReplyDeleteIt's a British thing, I hear.
ReplyDeleteAnd he also wrote the Revenge comic
ReplyDeleteThis! Renew the obvious ones early for once and then wait until May for the others.
ReplyDeleteIs it possible that ABC airs it on the summer for a time then holds on episodes for the fall?
ReplyDeleteWorst TCA session ever; Lee didn't say anything new, no renewals, no plans for the network, and merely hinted when The Whispers may premiere. And the biggest sin of all: pretending Revenge's awful situation can be reversed, giving false hope to fans and writers alike
ReplyDeleteAgreed!
ReplyDeleteWell, they could air the pilot as a preview for sampling and then premiere it on the fall, but it's a risky move
ReplyDeleteWell said
ReplyDeleteThis is so weird, it came out of nowhere. And what could ABC possibly gain from giving Revenge an extra episode this season?
ReplyDeleteIf they are giving extra episodes, stock it up for a short final season renewal, but don't give an extra episode just because, it's like throwing money down the toilet
We can all now expect ABC to renew each show one by one in May.
ReplyDeleteHe sounds pretty optimistic about Revenge. Phew.
ReplyDeleteAnything about a Once Frosen spinoff?
ReplyDeleteThe only way I can see it being re-invented is making it the Emily/Nolan show, leaving the Hampton's (and cast as we know it) and revenging for other people. Maybe that's why we've had Louise and maybe later Ben & Ben's exwife to test the reaction? The other options seem over exhausted, which is not to say a Emily/Nolan show would be a good idea..
ReplyDeleteHe's the same way for every show.
ReplyDeleteDid he say anything about a Once Frozen spinoff?
ReplyDeleteDouble episode series finale.
ReplyDeletePaul Lee gave an unofficial Castle renewal saying "It will be back", but it's not an official pick up.
ReplyDeleteAnd that somehow ends up being the most interesting thing done in this TCA
Link here: http://tvline.com/2015/01/14/castle-season-8-renewed-cancelled/
They could have done that with episodes 21 and 22
ReplyDeleteI would watch that show.
ReplyDeleteIt is kind of weird. To me it either indicates a double episode finale to end the series properly, or the writer could just be mistaken. We will have to see which is true when Babar gets back to us.
ReplyDeleteSo now comes the waiting. As I said, worst TCA session ever
ReplyDeleteThe TCA session in short: "blah, blah, love this show! Blah, blah, love this other show!"
ReplyDeleteIndeed. This is truly the worst one I remember in quite a while.
ReplyDeleteNone that I saw.
ReplyDeleteI got a reply saying "Checking" 15 minutes ago.
ReplyDeleteRegarding AoS and Agent Carter, via TVLine:
ReplyDelete"Though Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has slipped some in the ratings, Lee touted strong Live+3 DVR numbers and a solid performance among males, while Agent Carter, he claimed, thus far is delivering “double” what the time slot did last year. Asked if there’s corporate pressure to cut the Marvel shows more slack, Lee countered, “None at all. We drive this.”"
Maybe Lee thinks a lot of people would? This is the only re-invention I can think of, take the duo out to revenge elsewhere? Model it a bit like Castle?? Any other suggestions for re-invention?
ReplyDeleteThanks.Thats the main thing I'm inserted in with abcs tca.He said a while back more Once spinoffs are possible & another time said a Frozen one was possible so that's why I'm asking
ReplyDeleteI don't understand Lee. I thought he would want to ride the high that CBS/CW/Showtime have created for their fans instead he's secretive and cagey. This is why other networks make him and ABC look incompetent. It must be a very boring day too because none of my favorite tweeters are gushing over anything. A big difference from the rest of week.
ReplyDeleteCBS and CW gained a lot of positive press by making renewal moves. ABC should have seen that and ran with it. It was a complete lack of insight to not copy.
ReplyDeleteWhich means that they want it, the question is the money. But there's nothing new in it.
ReplyDeleteI was just talking about that. No one is happy or excited over anything. What's the point of this if you are not giving fans and critics something to talk about? Something to make us want to watch ABC?
ReplyDeleteThey already are writing episode 18 now,so difficult to wrap it up.So,one extra episode was required, maybe!
ReplyDeleteVictoria and Emily teaming up ato take down Charlotte after finding out she was causing all their missery all along.
ReplyDeleteJust Kidding! I don't have an idea yet for a re-invention xD
Where are you seeing this? In demo Carter is down y2y from The Goldbergs and just a few tenths above TW
ReplyDeleteMaybe, it does make sense
ReplyDeleteThose are Paul Lee's words, not mine
ReplyDeleteWhat did they have to lose by renewing shows like Modern Family, Scandal or How to get away with Murder? They are obvious, but at least that would be some news, unlike what we got here.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, ABC made a fool of themselves at this TCA
Thx for keeping me up to date
ReplyDeleteNone.
ReplyDeleteAh. Disney is running the show.
ReplyDeleteI think Stowe is done with the show, I think she wants to move on. Or we could get another cast, different location but another Takeda student?
ReplyDelete"It's got more secrets, and it's got more lies."-- Paul Lee on the new pilot for...Secrets and Lies.
ReplyDeleteOh, that so makes me want to watch it! Not.
But honestly, I'm looking forward to the show, but Paul Lee found a rather poor way to describe it
They could air some episodes now, then take a month off, and premiere in September as an all-new male skewing line-up like TGIT
ReplyDeleteI seriously laughed out loud at that.
ReplyDeleteI'll be watching it for ryan philippe.
ReplyDeleteIt's a bit too late to make it an anthology series, but I am all in for moving Emily and Nolan to Japana and have takedown alongside Takeda's students
ReplyDeleteI'll watch it because I find it intriguing that the viewer has to guess wherever he is guilty or innocent, it can build up a lot of tension and make for some creative twits along the way, so I have high hopes for it
ReplyDeleteWhich slot did it get?I forgot.
ReplyDeleteSundays at 9 after OUAT. Starts with a double episode on March
ReplyDeleteHe says he doesn't want to mess with Wednesday success, but watch him do just that next year
ReplyDeleteTime slot wise,it got a decent place.Let's see how it performs.
ReplyDeleteGoldbergs moved after Modern Family and Black-ish thrown to Tuesdays to stand in its own while premiering something out of The Middle. It's going to be 2012 all over again
ReplyDeleteOh god. Blackish needs to stay unless they want to kill it because its not retaining too much of Modern's leadin. Then again, I would take 2012 over 2013 but still, that would be BAD lol
ReplyDeleteTrophy Wife not airing after Modern Family and The Goldbergs after Shield made no sense whatsoever. 2013 was a disaster on the comedy front
ReplyDeleteI highly doubt Goldbergs are moved after Modern Family. There's a big chance that this Wednesday line-up stays the same.
ReplyDeleteThey should keep it the same, and loose Tuesday's comedy block which is, in its entirety, a complete waste of space.
ReplyDeleteI already watched the Australian one which was very good, so I doubt I'll bother with this one
ReplyDeleteI was just making fun of the 2012 moves that screwed the perfect comedy line up they had on 2011
ReplyDeleteI could go on. And on. And on. About Trophy Wife. Best new comedy of the season and better than most everything else ABC offered last year, except The Middle imo. It had heart and humor and reminded me of Modern Family if Modern Family was actually still funny.
ReplyDeleteIt did get me wondering what would happen to MF's ratings if Gloria was labelled as Jay's trophy wife...
Paul Lee on #Revenge's future: "We'll see where we go with it." He's cagey about its future. #TCA15
ReplyDeletethat doesn't sound good
The Jay/Gloria part is what made me really think Trophy Wife would do well behind MF.
ReplyDeleteBut alas, the scheduling department at ABC couldn't see that.
What I feel that says: "FU writers and fans! We are not renewing the show, but we want you to think we will! MWHAHAHAHA!"
ReplyDeleteThats not what did it for me. Kate was in no way Pete's Trophy Wife. The show makes clear: he marries a strict woman who holds power over him, divorces and runs away with the complete opposite, and twenty years later finally finds a "normal" wife while the catch is that the two ex-wives are still in the picture. The dysfunctional ensamble family setup was what did it for me, and it had all of the heart that I don't get out of Modern Family.
ReplyDeleteits a remake of an Australian show,, will probably get the same crap Gracepoint got about Broadchurch,, After all we already know who the killer is
ReplyDeletealready know the ending why bother
ReplyDeleteagree
ReplyDeleteWish ABC would have some info on Astronaut Wives Club already. There's still no publicity photos, or airdate info. Wonder if they're going to pair it up with Rookie Blue as they had intended last year.
ReplyDeletethe Secrecy makes me think alot of still will get cancelled
ReplyDeletePaul Lee on #Revenge's future: "We'll see where we go with it." He's cagey about its future. #TCA15
ReplyDeletedoes not sound optimistic
I never watched the show so that was sold it for me.
ReplyDeleteNothing. It's guaranteed to happen so the month that it is released doesn't matter besides in the eyes of PR.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is he said that after a screening of something of show, encouraging people to keep watching cause "It's got more secrets, and it's got more lies".
ReplyDeleteI'm on the edge of my fooking seat. Way to go ABC, you got even more boring than the granny network (CBS) by literally doing F all. Was there any point in this if you were going to say NOTHING.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is eps 15-22 of Revenge air after Secrets and Lies' 3-10 starting March 8, then a 2 hour season finale of OUAT (which will have aired 9 eps) followed by Revenge 4x23 on May 10 or something, depending on breaks
ReplyDeleteThey could air all 13 and finish more than a month before the 2016 fall season. If it does REALLY good ABC could order another season in June for it to premier in early October or something.
ReplyDeleteThe Whispers are eleven episodes.
ReplyDeletestrong DVR numbers? , when has that has never mattered to Any other show, some shows have FANTASTIC +3 numbers an increase of viwers by 80% but iit was always said that they would never factor into renewing a show
ReplyDeleteWikipedia says 13 and Barry Sloane tweeted 13 today I think. And yeah I meant 2015 lol.
ReplyDeleteWas there a promo of revenge on abc last night?
ReplyDeleteRight? Even CBS had fans and critics talking and laughing about things coming up. ABC is like watching water drip from a rusty, leaky faucet. Nobody is saying anything good..
ReplyDeleteWhat I've gotten from the #TCA15 's so far this week. The CW>Showtime>CBS>PaintDrying>PayingTaxes>......................>ABC
ReplyDeletePretty much they only did it because they had to... But seriously, who is he trying to fool? Theaverage fan isn't in the TCA nor is it following these conferences, or ever even heard of them
ReplyDeleteAs much as I like Revenge, the constant "reboots" are getting ridiculous. They did one last year, they did one this year and now they might do another one for a potential fifth season? Eh.
ReplyDelete
