    I think 10.14 sounds like the Cain episode. 10.15 sounds like a follow up/partner episode/title to 10.09. The titles are getting confusing but based on the set reports that arent always very helpful and spoilers, we have an episode with Charlie which I think is 10.11? A young Dean flashback episode which may be 10.12? Theres a Cas heavy/Rowena and Crowley heavy episode in there which I think is likely to be 10.13. 10.14 is Cain/Dean centric. Anyone know anything else?

    Episode 10.14 The Executioner's Song sounds great because Cain said to Dean, “You find the blade, kill Abaddon, but make me a promise first. When I call you -- and I will call -- you come find me and use the Blade on me.”

    Could Cain be connected to Dean now because of the mark?

    If you're right S10 (so far) seems like another season without a single Sam-centric episode. 10.14 is the Cain episode.

    I hope the rumor's accurate - I like how Adam Glass is writing for Sam the past few seasons. IMO Glass started out writing well for Sam and then not so well in in a few eps S7 and S8.

    I don’t understand why they keep doing that! It goes against what the show is supposed to be about and surely they must know that there is a reason why Jared has been one of the two leads.

    Jared and Jensen both asked for more time off, that coupled with the lack of Sam storyline this year means Jared isnt needed as much. Someone on another site said that based on set reports/sightings Jared is only filming days an episode for most episode so far this season. He was barely on set for filming of episodes 7 through 14.

    I dont think there will be any Sam centric episodes this season, it just doesnt seem to fit in with the grand scheme of the season also Jared has basically taken a step back from the show, he wants to film less days per episode so he can be with his family.

    I know the boy who played young Dean is in the promo. But AG called 'Bad Boys' his 'love story to Dean'. I will throw things if AG writes a second 'love story' to Dean. 'About a Boy' as a more Sam-centered FB could work if it's a little like S6's "Unforgiven' - present Sam recalls an incident from his youth that triggers another FB to the 'dark things' he alluded to in Paper Moon (besides Lester) that he had to do to get Dean back.
    At this point in the series I'm so disgusted by the lack of importance of Sam (Jared) that I'm more ready than ever to ditch the series. When Dean 'got the mytharc' the show should have switched the dominant "POV" between the brothers from Dean to Sam but that didn't happen - and the few times in S9 when writers tried to give Sam a few minutes of POV in a few episodes Sam/Jared got bashed for it because of the over-influence from the extreme fans.
    JA may be receiving a little more time off but Dean has had 'everything' - mytharc and POV - for the last two seasons. Dean/Jensen has never been sidelined the way Sam has been.

    It doesn't mean it wouldn't be Sam-centric. Young Dean can be in it, but story still could be about Sam, like it was in some previous flashback episodes (both After School Special and The girl next door were Sam-centric )

    Yeah, I doubt we'll see much of Jared/Sam in the second half of the season. I mean he was barely used in the first half of the season so why should anything change in the second half.

    Reading these comments almost made me laugh. I remember just a short time ago all the comments were that Dean/Jensen was being slighted. Guess I'm weird but I love that we're getting to see both boys and other characters (Cas, Crowley, Rowena)- I would like to see more of Sheriff Mills and her adopted daughter. Both Jensen and Jared have young children that they want to help raise, so allowing them to share screen time with others so they can have more "home time" may keep the series around longer-which is my wish.

    What made the show wasn’t just having two great characters but having those two great characters together and the chemistry between the actors.

    I think that sidelining Sam will erode the characterization of Dean too. Some of Dean’s most loved traits are based on him being the big brother and the importance Sam holds in his life.

    If the people involved in making Supernatural aren’t careful, Jared and Jensen or even just Jared having a lot of time off could lead to losing some of the intensity in the brothers’ relationship which drew the audience to the show in the first place.

    You can look at the season 9 episodes and get a good idea of who is writing what episode, and whether or not it will be a mytharc for the rest of the season.

    Why wouldn't young Dean be in a Sam centric flashback episode? Given that we know nothing about the episode other than it involves flashbacks, it may make all the sense in the world that it is a Sam centric flashback.

    That's a bit of a mischaracterization to say the "first five seasons pretty much revolved around Sam." Episodes and story arcs revolved around Sam, but the show as a whole revolved around the manipulation by demons/angels of the whole Winchester family, starting with Mary's death and leading to the apocalypse. Sam was a big part of that, but so was Mary, John, and Dean. The difference now is that the storyline is literally just Dean - not some bigger outside threat that equally involves both brothers - and this is dragging on for more than one season. The writers haven't been able to figure out a way to make the other characters relevant in the storyline in more than a supporting sense, so Sam and Cas waffle on the sidelines without much to do.


    No one's forgotten anything. :)

    I believe Adam Glass made a comment on Twitter that he had talked about the idea for this episode with Jared last year and Jared loved it. That tells me that it probably is Sam-centric, but that it's also a one-off if it was just as relevant last year as it is this year.

    If both sides are unhappy, does that mean everything is great, or bad? I don't begrudge the J's getting time off - there's more to life than work - but I'd like to see more planning going into writing arcs for them so that the time they do spend filming isn't wasted filler. It's about quality, not quantity.

    I don't think the mytharc should be a single-character's storyline for more than a short period of time. In most years it hasn't been, it was something bigger (YED, Lilith and breaking of the seals, the apocalypse, the Leviathan). If it's not "about" a character, there's room for all of the major characters to have a role in the mytharc. I also don't think the POV should rest with one character only. A show is so much more interesting if we see conflicting points of view.


    The writing with this show really puzzles me because it can't be intentional. I really think it's a case of poor planning and lack of leadership rather than any intentional writing strategy. There's got to be something broken very high up on the food chain. There's really no other explanation of why things would have gotten so bad and would still show no signs of improvement, even with a switch in showrunners.

    I don't see what all the arguing is all about who has/has not have a centric episode, Jensen and Jared are committed to the show and characters. Jared himself has said he's glad that Sam is not in the spot light this season, and he's happy to see Jensen/Dean to have the centric story lines. It's about time Dean gets some centrics episodes he deserves this, Sam will be for his brother helping him through the MOC. Glad to see Cain coming back was hoping he would return again, would like him to meet Sam since he was amused that Dean didn't kill his brother. I don't see why we need to have centric episodes of Cas anymore, they don't know what to do with him since there's really no story lines for him. He's only still on cause of his fans and that is the only reason, why keep him around they should write him off. Can't wait to see more of Crowley and Rowena heard she is going to give Crowley a lot of trouble, they can keep Crowley he's awesome and a thorn in the boys side.

Jared has said he's happy Sam is not in the spot light, he's happy Jensen is finally has the spot light on his character Dean. Sam is just important to the writers as Dean is, the show is about both brothers who fight the good fight. Glad to see Cain is coming back this season, hope he gets to meet Sam this time so he can see why Dean didn't kill him. He seem amuse that Dean didn't kill his brother like he did with Abel, we will see how this goes with the MOC. Why are they keeping Cas on the show when there's no story line for him, so why is he still around they only thing he's doing is nothing but driving around. The only good thing he did is save Sam from Demon Dean, then after that what is he really doing just wondering around cause the writers don't know what to do with him. They need to write him off the show along with the other Angels, getting tired of the story line it's getting boring. Can't wait to see what going on with Crowley and Rowena, she's going to give him a lot trouble from what I hear.

    Don't take this the wrong way, but to address your points, first, I don't see any arguing here, just calm discussion. Second, although I have a lot of respect for Jared, Jensen, Misha, and many others on the cast and crew, I don't have enough for any of them to let them do my thinking for me. Just because a star says he likes a storyline, it doesn't mean I have to like it. Third, following your argument that they should get rid of Cas because he has a weak storyline, they should also get rid of Sam too since he has even less of a storyline. I'm not advocating for getting rid of either, just pointing out the parallels.

    Yes, with the new, 'exclusive' Variety.com promo for 10.10-10.12 it seems Sam will have more action in each episode. The Glass episode seems especially promising for Jared/Sam as Sam seems to be 'interacting forcefully' :) with the ones who 'spelled' Dean. 10.12 'AAB' could no more be relevant myth arc -wise than S5's 'The Curious Case of Dean Winchester' except it may highlight a bit of Sam's smarts (and Fairytale knowledge that Dean teased him for in S3's Bedtime Stories) and how much Sam loves his brother and I agree that's better than nothing.

    Excuse the delay, I'm still having major computer issues. I'm very mildly encouraged by seeing the new Variety 10.10 -10.12 promo. It shows Sam does a little more than act as wallpaper; he (Jared/Sam) appears to have solo scenes with Metatron, solo scenes with Charlie (and carries 'one of the two possible Charlies) and more to do than I expected in 10.12.
    However, I'm still waiting for what Carver termed at several points of the current season regarding the 'personal story' for Sam. Dean, Cas and Crowley have fairly obvious ongoing self-examination storylines. Is Sam's over by 10.04 with his admission that there were other dark deeds he did to find Dean but the only human he accidently caused lasting harm to was Lester? I want to see more of what he had to do to find Dean but it's likely too late.
    Supporting his brother Dean is great as long as Sam gets sympathetic POV, too and Cas does not solve Dean's MoC issue by himself; I already felt kind of 'ripped off' that Sam needed Cas's intercession to 'cure demon Dean' and I'll spit nails if Sam doesn't play an important role in the ultimate MoC 'fix' whenever that happens.
