Stalker - Secrets and Lies - Review: "Stalker vs stalker"

"Close your eyes, give me your hand
Do you feel my heart beating?
Do you understand?
Do you feel the same?
Am I only dreaming?
Is this burning an eternal flame?

Say my name, sun shines through the rain
A whole life so lonely
And then come and ease the pain
I don't want to lose this feeling, ohhh."
- Eternal Flame - The Bangles

Stalker returned from the hiatus with the first of six new episodes in a row. In this episode, the mayor of Los Angeles is victimized while Beth makes every attempt to keep Perry in jail.

The case of the week begins with the mayor's office receiving a package. Upon opening this, the package begins ticking and the entire building is evacuated. It appears to be an evil doll, but the TAU is immediately called in. They are looking at angry constituents but don't find anything. At night, the mayor is attacked by someone wearing the same mask as the evil doll, who warns him to 'stay away from her'. Beth and Jack ask why he was out on the streets all by himself, and the mayor later tells Beth that he is seeing an escort girl named Alice Vargas. The TAU interview her and she revealed she has been stalked by an angry client of hers, named Drew. Later, Alice comes home to find her house a mess. She calls the police but then realizes the intruder is still in the house. It turns out to be the man in the mask, and even though he attacks her, he doesn't hurt her. Alice is warned to 'stay away from him'.

After interviewing Drew and deducing that he didn't break into Alice's apartment because he had an alibi, the TAU asks the mayor's wife Elaine if she knows Alice and Jack strongly implies that her husband is having an affair. Elaine says she doesn't know Alice, and in turn Alice denies knowing Elaine. However, Alice does say that she and the mayor never had sex and that they just talked. After some digging, the TAU find out that mayor Hayes had an affair with Alice's mom. They ask Hayes if Alice is his daughter, and he confirms that. He also says his wife knows, so the TAU confronts her. She immediately confesses to scaring both her husband and Alice, but Jack deduces that it's her son Craig instead. Craig is now with Alice and asks her all sorts of questions about who she is, but then Alice discovers the evil mask and she runs away. Unfortunately, her other stalker Drew has come to Craig's apartment. Craig and Drew fight, but Drew wins and walks away with Alice. The disillusioned lover is prepared to throw her off the bridge, but the TAU intervene in time to save her.

And while two stalkers fight one another, two other stalkers team up. Throughout the episode, Beth and Janice make every effort to get evidence on Perry so they can keep him in jail. Beth even decides to call in Amanda even though she would likely have to testify as Michelle Webber. However, Perry posts bail with the help of his father, and later ditches his family altogether. In the end, it turns out he is paying a visit to Ray, Beth/Michelle's former stalker. At the same time, Beth finally tells Jack about what's going on after he caught her crying in her office.

Stalker comes back with a strong episode, and I even think it's the best episode yet. The case was very interesting and once again refreshing to not have a crazy stalker. I reckoned it was the son the minute I saw the family on TV, and I am glad I turned out right. However, I did not see the other twists coming. I didn't think for a moment that Alice would be Hayes' daughter. Also, it was great that Drew came back at the end. It was unexpected that both the mayor and Alice had their own stalker. The stalker vs stalker fight was awesome. And Perry is now working with Ray to get more insight on Beth. This is bound to get interesting and probably very bad for Beth. I am wondering if Perry will break Ray out so they can go after Beth/Michelle together. Either way, I am looking forward to seeing how it all turns out. And I am so glad that Beth has also notified Jack. He's made such a character turnaround since the pilot, which is great to see!

What did you think of "Secrets and Lies"? What did you think of the case of the week? Did you see the various twists coming? How awesome was the stalker vs stalker fight? And what do you think Perry and Ray are planning to do? Lastly, how creepy was that cover of "Eternal Flame"? Sound off in the comments below!
