Sleepy Hollow - Episode 2.17 - Awakening (16-Feb-2015)

Henry Parrish returns armed with John Dee’s Grimoire, a powerful book of demonic magic, with a plan to reconstitute Sleepy Hollow’s long dormant – but at one point powerful – coven of witches. His initial attempt is met with noticeable, albeit limited, success, prompting him to seek out an ally in his cause. As Crane and Mills investigate three separate incidents related to Henry’s handiwork, they are lead to one of the many duplicate copies of the Liberty Bell, the repeated peal of which appears to have prompted recent cases of unexplained, uncontrolled rage in some of the town’s residents. Following some research, they discover the bell’s provenance had been closely associated with an “Awakening” ritual that sparks the powers of those with Witch heritage... which, in Sleepy Hollow, potentially numbers among the thousands. Meanwhile, Katrina – intrigued by her recent encounter with the Warlock Solomon Kent – tries to make sense of his prophetic warning about her more powerful “dark side,” and gets an unexpected, though not wholly unwelcome, visitor, which puts her and Ichabod at direct odds. And Jenny tells Abbie and Ichabod what she’s learned about the true nature of Frank Irving’s soul... that it is still under some sort of demonic control. This realization is proven out, complicating the team’s current mission even further, and forcing Jenny to resort to drastic measures.

  1. This seems mildly interesting. Irving's situation still has me intrigued and it'll be good to see what Henry has been up to. I won't go into Katrina's part and my disappointment because I've already talked that to death.

  2. Isn't this the penultimate episode? Eep!

Sounds great though, I've been waiting for witches to play a larger part ever since the pilot falsely promised them to us. (I just rewatched the pilot recently, for the 10th time, and I still couldn't shake the feeling they changed direction quite a bit between episode 1 and 2.) AND IRVING. WHAT THE HELL.

  5. This is the interesting episode but I hate Katrina will turn into a dark witch. She's the head of light coven! I hope she may be like Lena from Beautiful Creatures.

  6. I am not so sure her coven was a "good coven". They tied up Solomon Kent much the same way they tied up Jeremy/Henry. I don't think they were necessarily bad either, but maybe somewhere in between. When the episode from the 1st season "Golem" (they were called "The 4 who speak as 1") they had some very evil looking teeth. I got the impression from that episode that the coven "The Sisters of the Radiant Heart" aren't good, but aren't totally evil either. I think with Katrina you can have her go totally dark (which is going to seem forced) or she can do some things to seem dark while doing other things that seem good. How and when she will show those powers remains to be seen. I did like how she slammed that rock into the tree and made it turn to dust. I think whatever they do with her it is going to have to be something that will destroy her relationship with Ichabod.
