Episode 2.14 - "Kali Yuga" (26-Jan-2015)
Nick Hawley is surprised by the sudden return of the beautiful and mysterious Carmilla Pines, a woman from his distant past to whom he owes a debt... and she is ready to collect. Hawley breaks into Crane and Mills’ Archive to procure a book needed to complete her task, and, following some research, Ichabod, Abbie and Jenny learn that Carmilla – in addition to being a treasure hunter and a killer – has also been transformed into a “Vetala”... a demon servant of “Kali”, the Hindu goddess of death and regeneration. Even as our heroes work to figure out a way to rescue Nick and defeat Carmilla – who was Hawley’s Godmother and legal guardian following his parents’ death – Nick agrees to help in her task of breaking into the original Fort Knox, which is rumored to house a treasure trove of occult items, in the hopes of stealing an artifact capable of restoring her humanity. Meanwhile, at the Sleepy Hollow courthouse, Frank Irving is surprised and delighted to discover the murder charges against him have been dropped and he is free to go. But when the former police Captain returns home, he finds it difficult to readjust to any sort of normalcy, and he and his wife, Cynthia, seek out help to divine who the true owner of his soul is.

Holy hell that is a lot to swallow
ReplyDeleteNow, we have Hawley redeeming someone. Do ANY of the writers have an original ideal, for a storyline, between their ears. The same old plots over and over. Move forward already..JEESH.
ReplyDeleteFinally we get to see Frank's family. Going to love this. I wonder if they will give us a funeral flashback. I have a secret hope that we get a scene now or in the near future between Cynthia and Katrina, two wives with different but issues in their marriage involved heavily in the supernatural world. It would be nice to have ALL the characters to interact with all other characters. Build an aqauintance relationship atleast. Team witness needs to start coming together with all characters individual strenghts.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to enjoy seeing Hawley in a vulnerable state. Always the cocky one, it's going to be interesting to see his beginning and weaknesses.
Better than that we get all the SH characters again in one whole episode no matter the screen time. An even though they haven't named her I think Katrina is in this episode. I have a feeling it's the one where Ichabod asks Kstrina on a date! 😊
Ok my bad, I forgot the date episode 😊
ReplyDeleteAn really just because you are sick of her character doesn't mean everyone is. I think the writers aren't doing her justice but still I like to see her interact with other characters than just Ichabod and Abe. How else will she grow.
I think you may be one of FEW who ARE NOT sick of her. A little of her goes a long way. I think the character needs and a revamp. Until the writers can hash out HOW to interact her with other character there is no need to have her in a scene just for the sake of it. Up to now they have done a lousy job of integrating or writing for her. Again she is stagnant, undeveloped, unnecessary and useless.
ReplyDeleteBut how is she too develop being locked in a triangle, she needs other characters to interact with, to be more than just a wife, love interest, mother. What about a women in her own right, a friend to another. As to being a powerful witch. I never took that to mean 'powerful' like a lot of people did, if she was she'd be the go to character to get other characters out of corners. An I do need to see her in episodes because that was one of my complaints for Season 1. That we didn't see her, was she even in the show or not. It's alot like my complaint with GOT. On Dany being away from all the real action going on it Westerous and other characters.
ReplyDeleteI'm an optimist. I hope the issues this season will 'lightbulb' the writers for the next😉
I think a lot of the hate she gets is from crazy Ichabbie people wanting her out of the way. They think once she's gone, the show will put Ichabod and Abbie together, which would be one of the worst decisions the show could make.
ReplyDeleteBut how is she too develop being locked in a triangle, she needs other characters to interact with, to be more than just a wife, love interest, mother. What about a women in her own right, a friend to another.
ReplyDeleteThis. People complain about her not being a developed enough character and then they complain when she's in an episode. How exactly are the writers supposed to try and "fix" or "continue developing" her otherwise? Since it looks like they're not planning on killing her off anytime soon, and since she's still married to one of the main characters, that means she's going to be part of the show. So fans will really have to learn to just deal with and accept that fact at some point and either focus on whatever other reasons they watch the show, or simply move on if her being on the show bugs them THAT much, to the point where it messes with their enjoyment of the series.
And yes to her becoming a friend and confidant to others on the show, seeing her as an independent character in her own right. I'd be all for seeing more of that as the series goes on.
As to being a powerful witch. I never took that to mean 'powerful' like a lot of people did
Another interesting point. People do have a particular image and notion of how witches should behave or are portrayed on TV, so I can see where that might throw people off as well. I'm all for seeing some more examples of the kinds of powers she can and does have as a witch, mind, but you raise a good point about her power showing in other, more subtle ways, too.
Man, reading these synopses nowadays is turning out to be too spoilery. Will avoid the extended synopses from now on.
ReplyDeleteI like it, sounds like it will be a good ep.
ReplyDeleteYes, she is in the episodes, but not contributing to the story. Her role is repetitive and therefore might as well not exist. How many times can she say "my love", "let's save our son" and "help me to redeem the creature that killed her husband". It is getting old fast. If by giving her more scenes and having her to say and do the same things over and over, I rather not see her at all.
ReplyDeleteHon, for you information I am not an Ichabbie person. And your saying it will not make Katrina one of the worst character to hit TV.
ReplyDeleteI want her to branch out further, too, to get beyond the main storyline she's got. Again, though, she won't be able to do that if fans keep complaining about her. I think the show is trying to balance wanting to keep her on with wanting to temper the fans' complaints about her, and unfortunately the result of that is restrictive storylines. But perhaps if the fans actually gave some suggestions of ways they'd like to see her character improve, if they offered more ideas of what would make them like and invest in her more, instead of do nothing but talk about how much they hate her, that might help, too.
ReplyDeleteBut that is my point. She will be repetitive dips all she is give in role is to be a wife/mother/triangle. By interacting with other characters she can grow as an individual. Be a friend, someone who has needs beyond that of belonging to a husband/ex or hated by a son. She is very isolated. So as you say stagnant. Best plan. Make her avalible to other characters.
ReplyDelete@ Angela, As always spot on 😉
ReplyDeleteFor one, I would like her to be more independent and straight forward. It seem like she does not have any confidence or fight in her. The writer can start there. At this point they are letting her accept whatever is being done to her. They need to make the character put up more of a fight. Since she is a witch, why don't they show her fighting to get back her abilities in that area instead of saying she is powerful. She is now in the 21st century and do not have to tethered to one man or another. I feel that they should be moving the character forward not have her anchored to her past so much. She can accomplish this with or without Ichabod or Abraham.
ReplyDeleteLol I wouldn't ask for suggestions, my friend. At this late stage it's either back to Purgatory or be killed off. Besides I would rather follow the writers vision that a couple of thousand individual minds asking for Katrina to be turned back into Ichabod's memory.
ReplyDeleteIf anything I hope the writers learn throughout the season and come back better knowledges a season again.
All I can say is that the writers need to do better in presenting the character. Until they do it will be much of the same. It is in their hands how Katrina is being accepted.
ReplyDeleteAn that's what keeps me optimistic. If hopes that they have learnt from their mistakes. I will continue to watch regardless 😊
ReplyDeleteFallen on deaf ears or too late to make the changes because they had already written, filmed most of half the season and planned the whole story for season 2. That's why I hope the changes noted will appear in season 3. Since the majority of what I've read want Katrina gone, I don't think they will get their wish but atleast it'll kickstart the writers to evaluate the mistakes they've made with the character.
ReplyDeletebreaking into Fort Knox? AWESOME!!!
ReplyDeleteI know. But they are less extended and more like the whole synopsis for the upcoming episode.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see an episode devoted to just Katrina, Crane I'd also like to see why and how she ended up in Purgatory, her activities within the coven etc. Unless we get to see that (and fans stop bitching), we will never really learn who she is and why she's done what she's done. They did this with Abbie and her sister, mother. Instead of just little bits here and there, why not send the ensemble on a day vacationand tell us who Katrina is. Maybe then the bitchers will just be able to bitch about Abbie not being in an episode (you know, like they did with Crane?) and we can focus on all the cast again.
ReplyDeleteThat's part of what the show is about. Try going thru the DVD. It's biblically based. Destruction, redemption.
ReplyDeleteWhoa. Abbie's dysfunctional family wasn't a soap opera? I sat through "Mama" with no real interest because Abbie is so hardened it really seemed out of character for her to care. Empathy and compassion are not her strengths, but I realize we needed to get her ancestors' diary, so she had to be REDEEMED. No one complained about that episode or the redemption theme because we are fans of the show, although I just wanted to see Crane. But this intolerance of anything not associated directly with the Abbie character is ridiculous. This is an ensemble show. If you don't know what that means, you should look it up. On some ensemble shows, characters are actually given their own episodes. It might be a good idea here since it would allow us to know them individually and shut the detractors up once and for all.
ReplyDeleteIf you are referring to Season 1 CD, I do not recall the series referring or stressing redemption as much as it is now. It is being over used this season and the only reason why is to prop up Katrina and her so call guilt.
ReplyDeleteIt did not take over eight episodes to stress Abbie's family problems. Mama is only one episode where as the Crane crap is an ongoing and boring occurrence which needs to end. It is ruining the show.
ReplyDeleteYou are not listening or paying attention. Most of this season has revolved around Katrina. Give me a break. The character is not written or delivered well. Any more of her the show will be cancelled. AND you have a vulgar mouth. If you cannot express yourself any better you need to stop posting. Your language does not validate any point you are trying to make and definitely do not endear your pal, Katrina, to anyone.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Katia has to do her part. The other cast has the same writers and they bring it when it comes to delivery of their script. I think a much better actress could have worked with what was given them.
ReplyDeleteI think she is a good actress. I know the other actors on the show are more highly trained than her but I find all their acting the same. The scripts are not asking for Shakespearians. I think Katia is doing good with what she is being given.
ReplyDeleteIMHO, I do not think she can handle the material. A much better actress would be able to spin whatever is thrown at them in a much better manner. At best she is sub par and it shows.
ReplyDeleteThere are times when every actor on SH grate on me with their individual portrayal. One has a certain facial expression that bores me, another gets their line delivery with the emotional response needed wrong. But like I said, this isn't Shakespeare or a serious TV drama. It's horror mixed with comedy. So I guess we will have to agree to disagree. They sometimes get on my nerves but all the actors are doing fine with what they have.
ReplyDeleteSaying it is just a horror mixed comedy drama is a cop out. You SHOULD do the best that you can in whatever job you choose. Again, maybe that is the best she can do. Again, her acting is below the others.
ReplyDeleteOthers are getting more meat in their characters to work with. Even Frank and Jenny get moments were they shine when they get the screen. Plus like I have said. All other characters get to interact with all others. Katrina is isolated within the role of a wife/mother/love interest. Was he isn't even given enough rope to be a witch.
ReplyDeleteAn I think she is doing well within what she is given. Can't speak for anyone else but I find her character fascinating and full of potential.
No excuse, she had a season and a half to prove what she can do. In addition to showing her prowess as an actress. I do not think she was and is isolated. She has been front and center most episodes. AS matter of fact there was a chart circulated which showed that she had the most screen time other than Ichabod and Abbie. So she had ample time to SHINE. As you said we have to agree to disagree.
ReplyDeleteWhose making excuses. I have said the writing is letting her down and that she needs to be more than Wife/mother/love interest. But you apear to have a strong dislike for the actress, in that case I can understand why you see her as a lost cause and want her changed to another.
ReplyDeleteOh well all hopes for the best for a good show😊
My opinion is she cannot act, period and I do not enjoy watching her. If Goffman was trying to push someone forward at least he should had made sure that they can act. I hope the best for the show, but right now it is not looking too good.
ReplyDeleteAn you have shared your opinion crystal clearly, thank you, an to listening to mine. I'm happy to agree with you on hoping for the best. We have that at least 😊
ReplyDeleteI agree jemjean and I think we are young yo get that with The Salem Trials, which I think are delving into Katrina's ancestry. In interviews it was said that it will explain why Katrina hid her witchcraft from all and what she fears the most. We are even getting a witch hunter from her era. I'm so excited for this episode. Always love it when they go back in time.
ReplyDeleteAgree with you I love Katrina yes she needs to be more than a wife/mother but I love her like that too. She will get more individual development with her powers now. I pray they won't kill her off or turn her evil if they do I'll go evil with her and like her anyway.
ReplyDeleteMany people say she is manipulating Ichabod she is in love with Abrham. The part where she is in love with Abram maybe true but not the manipulation part. She likes Ichabod if not love anymore. Anyway I don't care I'll always adore her charater.
I hope we get no cliffhanger if we won't get s3 but I hope it gets renewed
I love her role as Wife/mother too, it shows her weakness. But I don't want that to define her. She was also a women in a time where they were more property than I individual beings, especially coming from a poor family. She was a witch in a time were the mere mention of the craft would have you tortured to death, she was a soldier, a spy, fighting in a War long before the current characters. To me she is bursting with potential. How did she discover her craft, who mentored her, how did she make her own coven. When and how was her first encounter with demons or Moloch.....questions are endless.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe she loves Abraham, part of me doesn't believe Abe loves Katrina. She was always a prize he had to get back from his rival. If he loved her, he wouldn't have been forcing the binding ritual on her. Katrina has professed countless times that she loves Ichabod, on occasions where she clearly is not being manipulative but honest (people strangely miss that detail) I think Abe is her guilt, Henry is her motherly weakness, Ichabod is her true love. Personally I think the writers are overblowing the female weakness thing with Katrina. We know all that now let's see her go back to mission minded soldier. But then again maybe she is already doing that but on a more subtle level. She pecked into Henry enough, who believed he didn't need his parents because he had Moloch, only for that to come crashing. She's pecking at Abe for him to promise (not sure it's going to last) not to harm others. That's 2 horsemen down. Of course she didn't do it on her own, but in her own unique way she contributed.
Its not about shippings you berk! Its never the shipping.
ReplyDeleteThis. Katrina is better off either back in purgatory or dead
ReplyDeleteIts you bunch (along with Goffman, Metzner and Kim) that are killing the show. This ain't the fucking CW so fuck off to there
ReplyDeleteagree. I want also more Ichtrina moments if the show doesn't get axed :(
ReplyDeleteThe season so far has largely revolved around Katrina and Crane Family Drama which is why the ratings and reviews have declined. And she's not even a lead, Abbie is - so of course we get Abbie's back story.
