FRESHMAN DRAMA “SCORPION” SCORES POST-AFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME SLOT
CBS’s hit drama SCORPION will be scheduled immediately following one of television’s biggest events, the NFL’s AFC Championship game, on Sunday, Jan. 18 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT).
In the new episode “Forget Me Nots,” Team Scorpion must jog the memory of an injured former Secret Service agent who is their only hope of preventing weapons of mass destruction being launched from a secret U.S. nuclear silo. David James Elliott (“JAG”) guest stars as the ex-Secret Service agent.
The following day, on Monday, Jan. 19, CBS will broadcast another original episode of SCORPION in its regular time period (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT). In this episode, “Charades,” the team is tasked with uncovering a mole inside the CIA who is coerced into stealing deadly chemicals.
SCORPION ranks as the #2 new program of the season, averaging 15.23 million viewers, 3.7/10 in adults 18-49 and 5.0/12 in adults 25-54. The drama has improved the year-ago Monday 9:00-10:00 PM time period by +62% in viewers, +23% in adults 18-49 and +28% in adults 25-54.
In January 2014, the AFC Championship game between the Denver Broncos and the New England Patriots averaged 51.3 million viewers. The AFC Championship game often ranks as the second-most-watched primetime program of the season, only behind Super Bowl programming.
SCORPION stars Elyes Gabel, Robert Patrick, Katharine McPhee, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Jadyn Wong and Ari Stidham. Nick Santora, Emmy Award winner Nicholas Wootton, Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Heather Kadin, Walter O’Brien, Scooter Braun and Justin Lin are the executive producers. The series is produced by CBS Television Studios.

Yes! It was just a matter of time, I even asked in the ratings thread earlier today when was CBS going to announce Scorpion as the lead-out? But it's great to see it confirmed, it was the only choice that made sense and hopefully the show gets some boost from it! But I worry that the show will run out of original episodes very soon. Will they produce 26 episode or something?
ReplyDeleteTo absolutely no one's surprise...
ReplyDeleteGreat choice! It is one of their biggest new hits of the season.
ReplyDeleteArguably, the biggest. lol
ReplyDeleteGreat choice, only choice, I don't care. I'm just glad it's Scorpion.
ReplyDeleteWell, next week is a repeat. They'll probably manage.
ReplyDeleteLOL I was thinking of NCIS: NO as well but I forgot which one had the higher average ratings.
ReplyDeleteNCIS: NO got a cushy time-slot. Scorpion has been become a self-starter within 6 episodes.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but Scorpion also had TBBT inflated ratings for the first 5 episodes so it kind of cancels out NCIS: NO's lead in.
ReplyDeleteNot when it retained the full TBBT repeat ratings right on their second episode.
ReplyDeleteBesides, NCIS and NCISO have insane compatibility (one being a spin-off of the other).
NCISO has had it easier.
TBBT "inflated" ratings. Not saying that TBBT was its lead in but that it had help from TBBT airing at 8 PM for the first 5 episodes. So within 6 episodes it became a self starter under the guidance of TBBT for its first 5 episodes.
ReplyDeleteIt's cherry picking though. Both are doing good so far in the demo.
Cool we get 2 original episodes 2 days in a row :)
ReplyDeleteYep, but as proven NCIS: NO will probably drop tremendously if moved liked LA did.
ReplyDeleteI agree, they are airing these episodes pretty fast. They have already aired 12 episodes in 2014, and now three in January. That means they only have seven episodes left for February-May if the season has 22 episodes. Perhaps the episode order has been upped to 24, which would make a lot of sense. I just wish CBS would annouce that like ABC did earlier this season.
ReplyDeleteStill curious if I should check this show out.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a given that it's been upped to 24, I mean, I can't believe anything else. My worry was already assuming the 24, I can't conceive it with 22. And I think it's possibly they've done 25 like H50 is doing. It would mean 24 on Monday + 1 on Sunday.
ReplyDeletethis show is doing insanely amazing isn't it? this is amazing they get which i's guessing is another coveted spot right?
ReplyDeleteExcellent choice. It has enough action to fit in the football crowd and a good storyline for everyone else. Here's hoping it exposes more people to this great show.
ReplyDeleteIt is my favorite new show but it isn't for everyone. It does have great action, a fast-moving plot, and interesting characters. I compare it to a summer movie blockbuster vs. one that was made purely for Oscar consideration. Scorpion isn't going to win any major awards but it the most purely entertaining show I watch.
ReplyDeleteIt's not the Super Bowl but it is the biggest CBS has to showcase since NBC has the Super Bowl this year. Basically it's the playoffs and detemines one of the two teams that go to the Super Bowl. The NFC Championship game, broadcast by FOX, will determine the other.
ReplyDeleteoh i though NFC was baseball LOL but i just realized National FOOTBALL Championship isn't? LOL
ReplyDeleteYep. Don't blame you for being confused because they sound alike. Baseball has the American League Championship (ALC) and National League Championship (NLC) before heading into the World Series game. Basically I only which one they are talking about by when in the year they are using them. Baseball in summer and fall. Football in fall and winter.
ReplyDeleteI think is is a bigger hit than New Orleans
ReplyDeleteConsidering I usually like summer movie blockbusters more than Oscar nominated movie, your comment is actually piquing my interest now. Maybe I should give the pilot a shot.
ReplyDeleteOkay, so NCIS: LA is a spin-off of NCIS, which is a spin-off of JAG. And since Scorpion had a corssover with NCIS: LA, that means all these shows share a universe. Now a JAG star appearing on Scorpion in another role feels kinda wrong, lol,
ReplyDeleteBy that token, H50 should also belong there. It crossed over with LA twice already.
ReplyDeleteIf you do, let me know what you think of it. The pilot is completely over the top and we don't know much about the characters yet, but it was fun.
