Maximilian Conte: Bette and Dot are uneasy about Chester and refuse to get into his magicians box for rehearsal. Maggie volunteers and Chester has a grand hallucination and then actually saws her in half, divides the boxes, and splatters her insides all over the stage as the freaks look on. They hinted at Maggie and Jimmy reuniting earlier in the episode, and AHS loves their sappy young love stories, so it was a genuine surprise that Maggie got killed off when she did.

CRIMINAL MINDS, "The Forever People", January 14, 2015, Actors: Matthew Gray Gubler, Thomas Gibson, The Scene: Reid and Hotch fist bump
Laura Markus: To be honest, I despise what happened directly before this scene. Kate was questioning Reid's intelligence, and even though she is still somewhat new to the team, she has already made other, more positive comments about Reid's knowledge before this. Morgan piped in saying how it has been 10 years and finally someone was on his side, and then Rossi fact-checked Reid's statistic, and Reid was indeed correct. I'm not sure how these agents really had the time to discuss this matter, but it's the fist bump I am talking about. Hotch and Reid have an interesting friendship, and a mutual respect for each other's strengths is what makes it great. Reid offered a fist bump to Morgan, which he rejected, but then Hotch extended his hand to Reid. Reid is known for being somewhat of a germophobe, so this was a HUGE moment for him, because he didn't even think twice about it. It was really nice to see Reid more playful. As well, it seemed as though this was Hotch giving his approval; this was sort of his way of saying that Reid's intelligence should not be questioned and that he supports Reid to the end.
EMPIRE, "The Outspoken King", January 14, 2015, Actors: Terrence Howard and more, The Scene: Lucious meets with the reporter
Nirat Anop: Lucious meets with the reporter and he talks about how music is a form of escapism. This scene was really thought provoking with such great dialogue. The scene was coupled with Jamal singing 'Tell the Truth', a heartfelt and emotional performance that resonated throughout Lucious' interview. Honorable mention to every scene with Cookie, Taraji is incredible in those scenes.
FOREVER, "Diamonds Are Forever", January 13, 2015, Actors: Ioan Gruffudd, Alana de la Garza, The Scene: Henry shows up at Jo’s house to comfort and support her
Tonya Papanikolas: In an episode filled with great Jo moments, this was the best. Jo was understandably missing her husband and very sad at all the reminders of him. But by showing up uninvited, Henry showed her how much he supported her and understood what she was feeling. He was a good friend who knew when she needed someone to lean on. In turn, she opened up to him. I love that she shared how she and her husband had had a fight before he died – that was the last time she talked to him, in anger. This episode featured a lot of tender moments where we finally got to see Jo’s deep feelings and learn about her husband and see how much she cared about him. We learned more about her past and got to know more about her in general, which we needed. But in this scene she went further and really let Henry in to her life. I loved seeing this side of her. Her hurt and pain made her character real and identifiable. (So far she hasn’t been as interesting and developed of a character as Henry so I felt this was necessary.) I also liked how Henry reassured her that her husband knew she was sorry and loved her. The whole scene was a wonderful touching example of the connection between the two partners. GALAVANT, "Comedy Gold", January 11, 2015, Actors: Timothy Omundson, Ben Presley, The Scene: King Richard plays with a bendy sword
Laura Markus: King Richard is trying desperately to win the heart of Madalena, who is accustomed to the humour and frivolity of the Jester. Richard decides that the thing she is after the most is his abilities to crack jokes. So, Richard begs for help from the Jester and demands he tells him what jokes to make. When Richard tries, but ultimately fails to win the heart of Madalena, he tries a more scarier joke - he pokes the Jester with a sword a few times. The sound effects used here were excellent, and the fact that everyone kept jumping when he would poke him was hilarious to watch. The sword wasn't sharp, it was bendy! The fact that Richard made himself (and myself) laugh so much by doing this was great to see. Timothy Omundson proved that he is a force to be reckoned with, and he can definitely pull off this comical role, all the while being a twisted king.
IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA, "The Gang Beats Boggs", January 14, 2015, Actors: Charlie Day, Kaitlin Olson, The Scene: Charlie and Sweet Dee beat Wade Boggs' drinking record when they land at LAX
Maximilian Conte: Dee ends up asleep on the airport baggage carousel and Mac and Charlie go play baseball. Charlie is so drunk that everything he says is subtitled. I'm so glad this comedy is back after a year off the air. Also picked by Sandi
MARVEL'S AGENT CARTER, "Time and Tide", January 13, 2015, Actors: James D'Arcy, Hayley Atwell and more, The Scenes: Jarvis' backstory is revealed & Jarvis' attempt at an American accent & Jarvis' interrogation & The fight scene on the boat
Justyna Kubica: It's a marvelous show! I thoroughly enjoyed the first two episodes but the third one might be the best of them all. I absolutely loved learning more about Jarvis as he proved to be a great character and a right partner for Agent Carter. Sidenote, oh, how I would have enjoyed his dynamics with Tony, though I admit Stark's personal AI system, J.A.R.V.I.S., is already one of my favorite aspects of the movies. Anyway, it wasn't easy to pick the best scene of the episode (especially between the interrogation and the backstory reveal) but in the end I think Jarvis' honest talk with Peggy will make their friendship stronger and I'm glad we now know more about him, Anna and the reason behind his loyalty toward Howard. James D'Arcy was excellent in the entire hour, with all the different sides of his character. And I'm already excited to see how things will change next week. If you still haven't seen the show, I highly recommend it! Also picked by Nirat Anop
Pablozky21: Marvel's Agent Carter has had one of the strongest drama starts I've seen; shows usually struggle to find their tone and their best way to tell the narrative, but it surely feels like Carter is doing so way quicker than most shows. Jarvis' backstory is not only a great moment of insight for the character, but it also connects us farther with the time period these people are living in; there are consequences from World War II, Cold War is on its way, and so we can feel that the threat is not only this "Leviathan" organization, but also the post-war enviroment they are in, just as the strong discrimination against women; the time period is just as important to the story as it is everything that is happening to the characters and the story plot, so I'm glad to see the show is handling it pretty great.
Klutzy girl: This is such a good show with a lot of amazing moments but Jarvis' attempt at an American accent was my favorite. It was just so random I didn't expect it but I loved the scene so much.
Diana Mack: I liked all the episode and I like Jarvis's backstory, so I guess my fav part was during his interrogation at the SSR with Agent Carter watching him. Listen him talking and taking defense of his wife, it really made him a fragile character on the inside, beside his goofy behaviour as a spy.
Tonya Papanikolas: The fight scene on the boat. This scene was so well done: sped up in places, slowed down in spots, with lots of sound effects and some Matrix-like suspended-in-air visual effects. Everything added up to a big impact. Every punch and every kick was emphasized with force, with all the effects creating a bam-bam-bam scene filled with great move after great move. Instead of realism, they went for impact. And it worked. I loved it. It was different than the fight scenes you see today. So far I’ve been very impressed with the fight sequences in the show. Last week the creative scene with radio sound effects was also phenomenal. I love that they are making this female character so tough and displaying her physical skills front and center.
NCIS, "The Enemy Within", January 13, 2015, Actors: Mark Harmon, Joe Spano, The Scene: Fornell and Gibbs talk at the end
Daniel van der Veer: NCIS did a great job of showing the grief over Diane's death, and one of the highlights was the talk between Fornell and Gibbs at the end of the episode. Fornell admitted that he loved Diane and that this time it was different from their first marriage. He also asked Gibbs to deliver him a piece of Diane's killer. This was such an emotional scene and you could really feel the depth of Fornell's hurt.
PARKS AND RECREATION, "Ron & Jammy", January 13, 2015, Actors: Amy Poehler, Nick Offerman, Jon Glaser, The Scene: The Tammy detox
Pablozky21: I've missed Parks like hell! I haven't laughed as much as when Leslie and Ron are trying to help Jamm to get over Tammy. Slap stick, Amy Poehler's spot on Megan Mullally impression and overall just seeing Ron and Leslie team up again was just the best of moments of the hour, truly wonderful; I'm seriously going to miss the show once it is gone. There is no other comedy in TV in which you root so much for the characters and see them grow and progress while delivering amazing lines and comedy overall. This show will be missed when its gone.
Klutzy girl: Agreed. Amy Poehler's Megan Mullally impression was absolutely hilarious and one of the best moments of the week. I couldn't stop laughing because it was spot on.
PERSON OF INTEREST, "Control-Alt-Delete", January 13, 2015, Actors: Michael Emerson, Camryn Manheim and more, The Scene: Finch interrogates Control
Justyna Kubica: Moments like this one are exactly the reason why Person of Interest is one of the best shows on TV. It's not "just" the action, the danger, the unexpected twists, the amazing storytelling, the humour and the characters that make this series so great. There can even be something uniquely powerful about a simple and quiet conversation like in this scene. Finch's speech is another great one, when he talks about how "each loss is unbearable, but when it's someone you know…". He quickly figures out that the government, the Control, is no longer in control and makes her realize it. "You foolish woman. You don't understand. You're not in control of anything. You're just a clean-up crew. You're the janitor." And for a moment, this good, peaceful man can appear quite scary and powerful. Michael Emerson is, once again, excellent in the scene! His performance carries an already great moment and I'm looking forward to the next episode eagerly.

REVENGE, "Madness", January 11, 2015, Actors: Emily VanCamp, Madeleine Stowe, Tommy Flanagan, The Scene: Emily and Victoria get abducted
Pablozky21: Season 4 has been something weird for me; I've been liking it, but there is something preventing it from reaching its previous seasons heights. That being said, seeing Emily and Victoria getting kidnapped pretty much ignated my Revenge fanatism flame as it opens a very interesting road for what's ahead. Even though the Malcom Black's thing has some kind of an Initiative air I can feel the differences and I believe this time it will be done right. Looking forward for what's to come.
STALKER, "Secrets and Lies", January 14, 2015, Actors: Maggie Q, Erik Stocklin and more, The Scenes: Jack offers to help Beth with her problems with Perry & Perry meets with Ray
Laura Markus: As someone who is a huge fan of the chemistry between Jack and Beth, this scene was perfection. Perry has been stalking Beth for quite some time, and just when Beth thought he was going to be gone for a while, he was released from jail on bail and then was nowhere to be found. Beth has been trying to conceal her true feelings about this matter from everyone she knows, although she recently let Janice help, and now Amanda. But this scene was so powerful because Jack really stepped up as a friend to Beth, and as she was so devastated by this news, he told her that he truly wanted to help her. This is really all I could ask from Stalker now, because the episode was pretty band up until this point. I will say that if Beth does confide in Jack about her problems, I am positive that they will be able to work things out, and Perry (and her other Stalker from her days as Michelle Webber) will be executed to the fullest extent of the law. Dylan McDermott and Maggie Q acted this out very well, and the chemistry they have in real life really played out on the screen.
Daniel van der Veer: Stalker returned with its best episode yet. The case was a very strong one, especially the extra stalker. But it was also good to see Beth working with Janice and later Amanda to keep Perry in jail as long as they can. Of course, we all knew he would escape but I didn't think that he would go to Ray, Beth's former stalker. Their meeting was creepy and I can't wait to see what's in store for Beth, but probably nothing good. Hopefully now that Jack knows they can join forces and kick Perry's ass.
THE GOOD WIFE, "The Debate", January 11, 2015, Actors: Julianna Margulies, Christine Baranski and more, The Scene: Alicia tells off Diane (and Cary)
Tonya Papanikolas: Alicia tells off Diane (and Cary) about why she is still in the race for state’s attorney. Alicia kind of flipped out in this scene, and it was interesting to watch. You definitely don’t want to get in a pissing match with a bunch of attorneys who are all used to winning! But you also don’t want to turn on people who support you. Yet that’s what she did, making me think she barely has any friends left. It also made it clear she’s going to have to choose between her law practice and running for office. She’s losing hold of her law work – she’s just not there for what needs to be done. Her attacks on Diane were unwarranted and her anger misplaced. She was fed up and on a war path, ready to attack anyone who questions her ability to do it all. But that attitude is not going to serve her well. She thinks she can juggle all the balls she has in the air but realistically she can’t. And she doesn’t see that yet. I’m not sure if this is something that can be smoothed over or not. But Alicia better be careful with how she treats her friends and coworkers. In accusing them she is only going to isolate herself. All these factors led to an interesting story and well-acted scene. I’m eager to see what happens next.
THE LIBRARIANS, "And the Heart of Darkness", January 11, 2015, Actors: Lindy Booth, Lea Zawada, The Scene: Cassandra fights off Katie Bender
Justyna Kubica: Truth be told, I haven't really been a big fan of Cassandra since the show started. And it's not just a case of her betrayal at the start but also the way she has often acted after. Sure, she had her moments and I think her confrontation with Katie was one of her strongest scenes so far. Hopefully it will also be a start of the character development I've been waiting for. About the episode itself, it was certainly a good one and honestly pretty terrifying which I really didn't expect. Katie's character was absolutely scary and creepy but well acted, for sure. I liked how in the moment of the big confrontation, Cassandra used her biggest pain against the enemy and finally confronted her feelings about dying. It was very emotional and powerful scene, great job by Lindy Booth. Now I'm hoping we'll get more of strong and helpful Cassandra in the future. And side note, maybe next time it will be Jake's turn to save the day. I feel like his character has been really underused so far. Also, fingers crossed for season 2! And now, excited to see the finale soon!

Of course, we all knew he would escape but I didn't think that he would go to Ray, Beth's former stalker. Their meeting was creepy and I can't wait to see what's in store for Beth, but probably nothing good. Hopefully now that Jack knows they can join forces and kick Perry's ass.
Tonya Papanikolas: Alicia tells off Diane (and Cary) about why she is still in the race for state’s attorney. Alicia kind of flipped out in this scene, and it was interesting to watch. You definitely don’t want to get in a pissing match with a bunch of attorneys who are all used to winning! But you also don’t want to turn on people who support you. Yet that’s what she did, making me think she barely has any friends left. It also made it clear she’s going to have to choose between her law practice and running for office. She’s losing hold of her law work – she’s just not there for what needs to be done. Her attacks on Diane were unwarranted and her anger misplaced. She was fed up and on a war path, ready to attack anyone who questions her ability to do it all. But that attitude is not going to serve her well. She thinks she can juggle all the balls she has in the air but realistically she can’t. And she doesn’t see that yet. I’m not sure if this is something that can be smoothed over or not. But Alicia better be careful with how she treats her friends and coworkers. In accusing them she is only going to isolate herself. All these factors led to an interesting story and well-acted scene. I’m eager to see what happens next.
Justyna Kubica: Truth be told, I haven't really been a big fan of Cassandra since the show started. And it's not just a case of her betrayal at the start but also the way she has often acted after. Sure, she had her moments and I think her confrontation with Katie was one of her strongest scenes so far. Hopefully it will also be a start of the character development I've been waiting for. About the episode itself, it was certainly a good one and honestly pretty terrifying which I really didn't expect. Katie's character was absolutely scary and creepy but well acted, for sure. I liked how in the moment of the big confrontation, Cassandra used her biggest pain against the enemy and finally confronted her feelings about dying. It was very emotional and powerful scene, great job by Lindy Booth. Now I'm hoping we'll get more of strong and helpful Cassandra in the future. And side note, maybe next time it will be Jake's turn to save the day. I feel like his character has been really underused so far. Also, fingers crossed for season 2! And now, excited to see the finale soon!
Klutzy girl: It was such an emotional scene in a terrifying episode. She found strength and used her own pain to her advantage and you could really see how she feels about dying someday soon.

I agree with a lot of these but most especially the commentary on Criminal Minds. If Kate continues to question my Reid's intelligence in such a annoying way, we are going to have problems.
ReplyDeleteThe fist bump was a cute scene for me. Hotch smiled, Reid didn't hesitate and it was just sweet. We don't get to say that about CM a lot. I also think every scene AJ Cook and MGG shared was fantastic and AJC has b ever been better. I think it broke Reid's heart to find out about the baby.

Every scene in "The Man in the High Castle" was amazing in my opinion. Everything was perfect and I really hope Amazon picks it up.
ReplyDeleteThe only other scene I really liked this week was on "Looking", when Kevin arrived to meet Patrick in the woods, I root for these two ♥
Oh, and "Broadchurch" had quite a few nice scenes too, but that's no surprise. It's such a stunning show.

ReplyDeleteI have missed Sunny loads, Charlie's drunken baseball was easily the highlight but the whole episode was hilarious. If only all comedy shows could keep the wit and plots this good after 10 years!
12 Monkeys surprised me, I was a bit dubious about it being on Syfy but I've loved the screener eps I've seen so far. As well as Goines' death (Zeljko Ivanek steals most scene he is in) other scenes that stood out were Cole & Railly first meeting and the tension building during the party.
Banshee wasn't as fast paced as last week, but I did love the new opening credits, which I nearly put down instead of the Redbones attack on Proctors house. Seeing Kai's softer side due to his mother's sickness was also interesting. In some ways I think we are seeing he and Rebecca switching places - she is becoming the tough, no nonsense one and he is realising that life is more fragile.
The Musketeers had some lovely scenes this week, but the shows above just pipped them I'm afraid. Samira and Porthos were especially good together. I liked their chemistry and am glad that it didn't become shippy as I feel family, rather than romance, is more important to his overall arc this year. Rochefort and the prostitute dressed as Queen Anne was very creepy, the guy is a complete nutcase living in a fantasy world. It's pretty obvious now that he isn't really a Spanish spy at all, he's on Team Rochefort isn't he!

ReplyDeleteJust wanted to add that I completely agree with Pablozky21 's comments on Agent Carter being a fully realized production from the start and not feeling its way around in the beginning as some new shows do. There is a cinema quality to its rendering and I really appreciate the quality it jumped in with.

ReplyDeleteOpening sequence annoyed me this week. They messed about with the music which I love (I may or may not have listened to it on repeat on YouTube a lot). The sequence was really cool, and if they'd had the music right I'd have really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI voted for everything Agent Carter. Jarvis interrogation was intense and I hated that detective for blackmailing him but I realize they did need answers. Peggys fight scene was awesome but they usually are. I thought Jarvis's accent was actually really good.
ReplyDeleteFor me it was the Empire scene(I sometimes forget how fantastic an actor Terrence Howard is), The Librarians scene, and the Galavant scene. Also want to give a shout out to the performance of No Apologies on Empire, fantastic music, fantastic scene.

ReplyDeleteFor others the "I love you" is just a confession that might be heard many times in a show, but for Mentalist fans we've been waiting for a long time, the first time said by Lisbon. It meant a lot, both for their relationship and for the fandom<3
I think it may be the fact that SpoilerTV is a site made by the fans for the fans. It's actually one of my favorite things about it. We all watch many (many!) different shows and try to acknowledge and appreciate as many of them as we can.

ReplyDeleteShaw might be back - my own personal prediction is that she's been brainwashed and will come back as one of the team's most formidable opponents (hopefully Root will help her come back to the light side and remember what happened) and as for Root - her storyline seems to have gone through a redemption arc where she is absolutely one of the good guys or at least on their side...she said last ep "I'm not the monster I used to be" and since the end of last season and Prophets this season she's proven that

Yes, it's a very cute scene but to have it in scene of the week?(or episode) I mean people's taste is subjective and all and I'm incredibly biased, but it just doesn't seem right. *sigh* Sorry CM, can't vote for you.
ReplyDeleteBest scene was either Reid&JJ (when she broke and told him) or JJ&Askari (highly creepy). This is such a close call. I think the later wins by just a little bit. Both were very moving.
(and yeah, I would like to think has it been any other member going through PTSD and played so incredibly well by their actors I would pick their scene and not the cute but not best fist bump).
