This table shows the early overnight ratings. These ratings are normally adjusted later in the day when all the ratings have been consolidated to take into account any local preemptions and/or overruns. You can find all the final adjusted numbers in our Ratings Database. (See the About section below for details about ratings)
The analysis below is based on the early household numbers and are NOT the same as the numbers that will be posted in the above table later. (See the About section below)

Sluggish Return for the Final Season of “Parks and Recreation” on NBC
Tuesday 1/14/15
Household
Rating/Share
CBS 9.2/15
NBC 3.9/ 6
ABC 2.9/ 5
Fox 2.7/ 4
CW 1.1/ 2
-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening – Tuesday 1/15/14:
ABC: +30, Fox: +12, CBS: – 9, CW: -21, NBC: -24
———-
Note: The following labels are based on the household overnights and are subject to change given the availability of other pending data streams. The overnights are your first look at what to potentially expect when the other results come in. And we always take into account other benchmarks including the expected demographic ratings, potential DVR usage, the critical acclaim (or lack of) and the social media presence. Keep in mind, as always, that results for any live sporting event are always approximate.
-Winners:
“NCIS” (CBS), “Shark Tank” (ABC), “NCIS: New Orleans” (CBS)
-Disappointing:
“Marvel’s Agent Carter” (ABC)
-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Parks and Recreation” (NBC), “Marry Me” (NBC), “About a Boy” (NBC), “New Girl” (Fox), “The Mindy Project” (Fox)
———-
Ratings Breakdown:
It was a clean Tuesday overnight sweep for CBS, as usual, with its line-up of “NCIS” (#1 for the night: 11.6 rating/18 share), just renewed spin-off “NCIS: New Orleans” (9.7/ 5) and “Person of Interest” (6.4/11). Comparably, the Eye net’s overnight household advantage over distant No. 2 NBC was a hefty 136 percent.
In season-premiere news, two episodes of NBC’s perennially low-rated “Parks & Recreation” returned for its final season with a 2.6/ 4 at 8 p.m. and a 2.2/ 3 at 8:30 p.m. Both episodes ranked a distant fourth in their time periods. And hiatus-bound 9-10 p.m. comedies “Marry Me” (#4: 1.7/ 3) and “About a Boy” (#4: 2.0/ 3), which just had its sophomore season episode order slashed by two, did not fare any better. There was more positive news for NBC at 10 p.m. care of reliable drama “Chicago Fire” (#2: 4.4/ 8), which built from “About a Boy” by 120 percent and could finish neck-and-neck once again with competing “Person of Interest” in adults 18-49.
In week two news, “Marvel’s Agent Carter” on ABC dropped to a 3.3/ 5 in the overnights from 9-10 p.m., which was 25 percent below the 4.4/ 7 one week earlier. And that translated into 6.91 million viewers and a 1.9 rating/6 share among adults 18-49, based on the fast affiliate data. Comparably, retention for “Marvel’s Agent Carter” out of a Tuesday 8 p.m. edition of “Shark Tank” (#2: 5.1/ 8) was also lacking at 65 percent. Opposite “NCIS,” “Shark Tank” could be poised for victory among adults 18-49 (and other key demographics).
ABC closed the night with freshman “Forever” at a distant third-place 3.3/ 6 at 10 p.m., which was still 32 percent above failed drama “Killer Women” on the year-ago evening (2.2/ 5 on 1/14/14).
Elsewhere, Fox’s just renewed “MasterChef Junior” finished third from 8-9 p.m., with a 3.4/ 5, which should generate some interest in the key demos. And it led into typically lackluster overnight performances for comedies “New Girl” (#4: 2.2/ 3) and “The Mindy Project” (#4: 1.9/ 3) from 9-10 p.m. The CW, meanwhile, populated this second Tuesday in January with encore telecasts of “The Flash” (#5: 1.2/ 2) and “Arrow” (#5: 1.0/ 1). Speaking of The CW, yesterday’s Press Tour set visit to “Jane the Virgin” was, as Jimmie “J.J.” Walker would day, Dy-No-Mite!!!

Come on POI
ReplyDelete"Opposite “NCIS,” “Shark Tank” could be poised for victory among adults 18-49 (and other key demographics)."
ReplyDeleteDamn Shark Tank. Damn.
I wonder if that is an increase for PoI...it seems like a high Household number.
ReplyDeleteAlso, very sad for Carter.
ReplyDeleteNooo agent carter
ReplyDeleteGo POI! :D
ReplyDeleteIt looks like it might do 1.7 again.
ReplyDeleteWorks for me
ReplyDeleteAnd JtV gets a mention for no reason what so ever!
ReplyDeleteHopefully, if Shark Tank does well, ABC will be smart to put Beyond the Tank there.
ReplyDeleteDang. I was wrong about Marc. Now it seems he will talk about JTV every day.
ReplyDeleteI was just about to write the same. So ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty good for Shark Tank
ReplyDeletePredictions?
ReplyDeleteSad for Agent Carter! Hoping it hold in the upper 1's!
ReplyDeleteDang more JTV mention
ReplyDelete1.7
ReplyDeleteI got nervous for ABC then realized Marc switched its average with NBCZ
ReplyDeleteMarc says that Shark Tank could be poised for victory in 18-49 against NCIS. that will lead me to say around a mid 2 but that's very unlikely.
ReplyDeleteOuch AC, but I did expect that. Yet to watch the episode.
ReplyDeleteCan Shark Tank really beat NCIS which got a 2.8 last week?
I think he confused abc and NBC average
ReplyDelete"Opposite “NCIS,” “Shark Tank” could be poised for victory among adults 18-49 (and other key demographics)."
ReplyDeleteI think that's unlikely. It usually does 1.7-2.0 on Friday, NCIS hasn't hit lower than a 2.3 this season. Shark Tank might be a bit higher rated because it's on Tuesday, but it's unlikely to beat NCIS.
It would be a tremendous win for ABC if Shark Tank managed to get around mid/high 2's.
ReplyDeleteIf it can do that
ReplyDeleteLet's move it ASAP lol
And risk Friday to crash? lol
ReplyDeleteNo, I don't think so. ST does around 1.7-2.0 on Fridays, NCIS hasn't gone lower than 2.3 this season. Maybe ST will do a bit better with this Tuesday telecast, but I don't think it will beat NCIS.
ReplyDeletemy thoughts exactly. but let's see.
ReplyDeleteOh no, Agent Carter :(
ReplyDeleteABC really needs to rework Tuesday- putting shark tank spinoff or even bringing DWTS results will help greatly
ReplyDeleteIKR? :( even apparently Shark Tank's lead-in (which, according to Marc, might be poised for 18-49) couldn't help it.
ReplyDeleteIt's so sad. I have tiny hope that it just dipped on 18-49, but it seems like it stumbled!
ReplyDeleteIt might have been just old viewers fleeing.
ReplyDeleteThe demo might have held.
Weird Loners is going to bomb in that slot. But looks like FOX didn't have any faith in it anyways since they didn't order more episode than the original six.
