Ratings Breakdown:
It was a clean Tuesday overnight sweep for CBS, as usual, with its line-up of “NCIS” (#1 for the night: 11.6 rating/18 share), just renewed spin-off “NCIS: New Orleans” (9.7/ 5) and “Person of Interest” (6.4/11). Comparably, the Eye net’s overnight household advantage over distant No. 2 NBC was a hefty 136 percent.
In season-premiere news, two episodes of NBC’s perennially low-rated “Parks & Recreation” returned for its final season with a 2.6/ 4 at 8 p.m. and a 2.2/ 3 at 8:30 p.m. Both episodes ranked a distant fourth in their time periods. And hiatus-bound 9-10 p.m. comedies “Marry Me” (#4: 1.7/ 3) and “About a Boy” (#4: 2.0/ 3), which just had its sophomore season episode order slashed by two, did not fare any better. There was more positive news for NBC at 10 p.m. care of reliable drama “Chicago Fire” (#2: 4.4/ 8), which built from “About a Boy” by 120 percent and could finish neck-and-neck once again with competing “Person of Interest” in adults 18-49.
In week two news, “Marvel’s Agent Carter” on ABC dropped to a 3.3/ 5 in the overnights from 9-10 p.m., which was 25 percent below the 4.4/ 7 one week earlier. And that translated into 6.91 million viewers and a 1.9 rating/6 share among adults 18-49, based on the fast affiliate data. Comparably, retention for “Marvel’s Agent Carter” out of a Tuesday 8 p.m. edition of “Shark Tank” (#2: 5.1/ 8) was also lacking at 65 percent. Opposite “NCIS,” “Shark Tank” could be poised for victory among adults 18-49 (and other key demographics).
ABC closed the night with freshman “Forever” at a distant third-place 3.3/ 6 at 10 p.m., which was still 32 percent above failed drama “Killer Women” on the year-ago evening (2.2/ 5 on 1/14/14).
Elsewhere, Fox’s just renewed “MasterChef Junior” finished third from 8-9 p.m., with a 3.4/ 5, which should generate some interest in the key demos. And it led into typically lackluster overnight performances for comedies “New Girl” (#4: 2.2/ 3) and “The Mindy Project” (#4: 1.9/ 3) from 9-10 p.m. The CW, meanwhile, populated this second Tuesday in January with encore telecasts of “The Flash” (#5: 1.2/ 2) and “Arrow” (#5: 1.0/ 1). Speaking of The CW, yesterday’s Press Tour set visit to “Jane the Virgin” was, as Jimmie “J.J.” Walker would day, Dy-No-Mite!!!

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.
The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).
Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.
Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above (We also where possible now post the 18-34 and 25-54 Demo Numbers).
Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.
