Note: The big draw last night, no doubt, was Oregon versus Ohio State on College Football on ESPN.
Tops among the broadcast networks was ABC, which bested No. 2 CBS by 11 percent with its combination of “The Bachelor” (5.1 rating/7 share from 8-10 p.m.) and “Castle” (4.8/ 8 at 10 p.m.). Facing “Celebrity Apprentice” on NBC, which was competitive at a 4.4/ 6 from 8-10 p.m., “The Bachelor” dipped by 11 percent from the 5.6/ 8 on the comparable year-ago evening. Versus week two of the prior cycle (3.7/6 from 9-11 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2013), “Celebrity Apprentice” increased by 22 percent.
Inching closer to cancellation, meanwhile, was recently introduced NBC drama “State of Affairs” at a last-place 2.8/ 4 at 10 p.m. Comparably, retention for the Katherine Heigl drama was only 61 percent out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of “Celebrity Apprentice” (4.6/ 7).
CBS gave regularly scheduled “2 Broke Girls” a rest last night in place of an encore telecast of “The Big Bang Theory,” which scored a dominant 6.3/ 9 in the household overnights at 8 p.m. Next was “Mike & Molly” at a 5.8/ 8 at 8:30 p.m. (#1), followed by repeats of “NCIS: Los Angeles” (#3: 4.2/ 6) and just renewed “Scorpion” (#2: 3.3/ 5) from 9-11 p.m. The Eye net reversed their airtimes last night.
Elsewhere, a repeat of the pilot episode of Fox drama “Empire” (#4: 2.4/ 4 at 8 p.m.) led into a 1.5/ 2 for an encore of “Sleepy Hollow” at 9 p.m. And two repeat episodes of “Jane the Virgin” on The CW, featuring newly crowned Golden Globe winner Gina Rodriguez, averaged a 0.9/ 1 from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that was on par from its original performance.

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.
The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).
Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.
Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above (We also where possible now post the 18-34 and 25-54 Demo Numbers).
Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.

ReplyDeleteThat if a show repeats in the slot they usually are on, the repeat ratings are counted into that show's average.
ReplyDeleteIf it doesn't air in that slot, the network can label the repeat as special and it won't count for the averages

ReplyDeleteCW did the right thing by premiering their lineup next week, ABC did it only this week for Castle and CBS and FOX had to take breaks after one original aired. I don't blame NBC, Apprentice does well for a bridge show and SOA is at burnoff mode.

ReplyDeleteYeah, it is a shame because it is a good show. But to be honest, the last couple seasons have been a bit of a miss for me, especially this season. That might not be a good way to describe how I feel about it, but it's the only thing I can think of at the moment. Don't get me wrong, it's still one of my favorite shows, it's just not in my top 5 anymore.

ReplyDeleteThat's really good for Mike & Molly, growing two tenths from a Big Bang rerun. Castle did pretty bad but I thought it would be a little lower considering Bachelor went down to high 1's. Celeb Apprentice did well against Bachelor, it should rise next week since that'll be Joan Rivers last appearances on TV.

ReplyDeleteMy guess is that if a limited series does well, they will try to find incentives to film more episodes than the original count.

ReplyDeleteM&M continues to impress - the lone original and it gained from TBBT (R) despite the fact that it aired opposite the start of the game and against originals on ABC/NBC that had a 30-minute jumpstart. Assuming MM is under contract, it will return. Assuming TOC flops, which it will, CBS may decide whether to trim back comedies to four (TBBT/2BG/Mom +1 new) and keep M&M on bench.
