GREAT EPISODE!!! :D One good, one bad... LOL I love my Dean :P OMG my poor Dean broken and Sammy!! I just want give hugs to Sammy and Dean :´( I really love Sam worried about Dean!! ♥ And dark Charlie, DON´T TOUCHING THE IMPALA!!!! I love so much my Winchester brothers!!!! :)
Wow, I am completely surprised. I really enjoyed this episode. I loved just about everything about it, and the story line actually seemed creative and interesting! It really tied into things happening this season, and last, and even the special effects were top notch. So far, this second half of the season has really stepped up its game. Let's see if they can go three for three with next week's episode, which looks interesting too!
Yeah it was pretty blah. Which was kind of a downer, b/c I was really looking forward to it. But ugh, the way she portrayed Dark Charlie, I couldn't take it. The deliverance, the way she moved, her face. I mean those close ups didn't not help any. They put wayyy too much make-up on her, idt they planned to make her so damn white and it definitely showed her age. I just couldn't take it.
Funny thing is that I was thinking when watching the scene between Sam and the Wizard: OMG, THEY'RE MAKING SAM USELESS, TYING HIM UP AND CHOKING HIM. THEY NEVER DO THAT. SHOCKING!!!!
I need to take a painkiller for the headache I got after being hit by an anvil when Charlie said: "If one of us is hurt, the other is too." * searching for a tylenol*
I really envy those who thought this episode was great. Unfortunately, I saw it as another example of how the writers need to stop digging because they've already put this show in a massive hole. This week's theme of one's inner darkness has been examined before and executed far better. First there was Sam who struggled with the his darkness as he dealt with his issues with demon blood. Next, we saw Dean struggle with the darkness he never knew he was capable of when he returned from hell and confessed to the tortures he committed. Then, Sam returned from hell and had to come to terms with the wrongs he committed when he got his soul back. Now we have Dean dealing with the Mark of Cain's effects. That's a long drawn out way of me asking what was the point of this episode? Not to mention the tale Charlie told of her adventures in Oz made little to no sense. On a positive note, I did really enjoy Felicia Day's portrayal of Celeste/Charlie. I also thought the final scene between Dean and Charlie was well done.
I miss the days when one episode to the next of Supernatural would advance the plot to an overall story arc. Right now it feels like this show is just spinning its wheels, unable to gain any traction. We are getting a lot of stand alone episodes that introduce elements like Oz and time travel that don't really fit in the Supernatural universe. For example, I love the Men of Letters lore as well as the bunker that Sam and Dean now call home. I hated the introduction of this story though because it was done by means of time travel. There were better, more realistic ways for Sam and Dean to discover their Winchester MOL heritage . Same goes for how they discovered the Campbell legacy of hunters.
No matter what, I'll keep watching Supernatural because I do love this show and have yet to miss an episode. I'll just keep my fingers crossed for better plots and story arcs so it can go out on a high note when the time comes.
Personally, I loved the episode. I like Charlie's character and I like seeing her once in a while. I really like that she had more interaction with Sam and how her story paralleled what the brother's are going through, plus we got to learn her name! I also liked that she forgave Dean but didn't necessarily leave him off the hook either. I loved one of her last lines when Dean apologized and she said "Prove it". Just added a nice little extra push.
Side note: I don't know if I want to applaud Thompson or smack him, but did anyone else notice the double entendre with the brothers aliases? I mean it was clever, but really?
Yeah, that was my top problem of the episode. Sam - not 'and Good Charlie' are tied up and strangled by the Wizard and bruised and bloodied 'Good Charlie' still manages to save the day. Up to that point the boys interacted with the two Charlies fairly evenly.
Great review! I couldn't agree more w/you. The show is really spinning its wheels. This episode was actually boring to me. I don't care about Charlie. I'm sorry. I just don't so whatever her "dark half" was trying to do just didn't mean anything to me.
And Sam . . . ugh . . . what they have done to him is horrendous. Could he be more ineffectual?
On another board, I posted the exact same thing. Sam was completely stupid, incompetent, and useless in this episode. It was actually quite sad. All I could think is, "What in the world are they doing to poor Sam?"
Why? Why was he written in such an ineffectual and cowardly way?
You know what the most painful part is - it's not even in this episode. It will (could) be in 10.14 where Dean will get to meet with Cain again and Sam, who brings up how Cain lives basically serenely with the Mark several times already will possibly not even get to meet Cain.
Yeah. . . I just couldn't get into it though I tried. As someone pointed out above, the show feels stagnant. Nothing is happening. The plots - whatever they are - don't seem to be advancing. We just keep getting more and more pointless episode.
The biggest offense of this episode, IMO, was the portrayal of Sam. I didn't think the writing could get worse for him, but then this episode happened! Haha! How ineffectual was he? He was literally tied up and choked again. He didn't try to prevent Dean from tracking DC even though he KNOWS Dean is battling the MOC. He let Dean hold that huge knife. He was worried about Dean's interrogation of that guy but never said anything like he's scared of Dean or something. Ugh . . . I just can't w/the way they are writing Sam this season. He has been a mess the entire season, IMO. Why is he even around?
But w/the way they are writing Sam - as completely ineffectual and pointless - he may as well not meet Cain. It's not like he'd had anything to offer under this regime.
Yes, Lala, I think Sam knew Dean took the knife and RT made Sam look like an idiot again by allowing him to trail DC rather than let Sam do it. But storywise it is consistent when Show wants it to be that Sam is better on the computer than Dean so I guess we can't have Action!Sam and Geekboy!Sam in the same episode.
Ugh . . . Sam should be limited to one thing. As you said, he can be both geeky and active. I am beyond sick of seeing Sam tip toe around Dean and just sitting back letting Dean run off by himself, carry knives, track down bad people, and then being shocked when Dean is taken in by the MOC. It's ridiculous at this point!
I'm wondering when JC's (and Jared's comments at Houston Con) responses about Sam's storyline being 'actively' (even dark-ish) about saving Dean will start because as you pointed out RT slapped Sam with the idiot stick this week in the manner of Sam's 'Dean Caretaking'.
You know, I am not expecting much from Sam when it comes to "saving Dean." I just don't trust these writers or this regime. If he does anything, it will probably be something horrible and monstrous so he can be the "bigger monster" like Carver implied he would be.
I'm glad the ep wasn't Carver's usual Sam is god and there is no one else. Maybe he'll find his way back to a balanced brothers story let alone season like Kripke/Gamble had instead of it being all about and only about Sam. I do have to nitpick when Charlie said what happened to her she's not going to let happen to Dean.. Huh? Charlie was split in half. Good/bad Charlie. If Dean go darkside it's bad Dean and that's all. There is nogoody two shoes Dean.
The show's seasonal structure hasn't changed since season 4. First 3 or 4 episodes are always mythology, then the next 3 are MotW, then 2-3 mytharcs, then 2-3 MotW, etc.
I truly loved this episode, and I really hope Charlie will be back soon. Maybe she'll finally get to meet Cas? And agents Gabriel and Collins? Seriously?! Oh my poor shipper heart...
well it wont be before episode 16, since those are all Dean (and guest star) heavy/centric. My guess is Sam mentions something about how far he'd go to save Dean soonish but we wont see him do anything untill the end of the season. Like I said Carver is a liar who was clearly trying to fob Sam fans off by saying he had a storyline and blah blah but really all he was doing was telling Sam fans to go screw themselves. Dont worry about Jared he's getting paid and he's only filming about 2 days an episode which actually makes him one of the highest paid actors on TV. He also seems to be just content to sit back and let everyone have the storylines so at least Sam isnt being made the whipping boy of the show, well that was the plan it seems anyway. He cant win can he, Sam gets a storyline he's the bad guy, he's got no storyline and he's till the bad guy bashed by the fandom. I hope Jared negotiated that next season he doesnt have to film every episode, he could just show up to film the research parts of the MOTW episodes and still earn plenty of money.
I'm sure Charlie will be back someone has to save Dean, Carver has made it clear it wont be Sam. He's just filling the screen with as many Sam replacements as he can hoping that one will stick and maybe Jared will decide to quit. Jared being the only person with a brain associated with the show wont quit because he gets paid something like 175,000 dollars to turn up to set 2 days an episode, have barley any scenes and doesnt have to learn more than about 5 lines. Jared's laughing all the way to the bank.
Once again I want to thank you for your comments. You actually comment on the episode and it is always great to still see comments from someone, like me, who still likes Supernatural and appreciates it for what it is, and doesn't just come to the comments to complain. I really love your enthusiasm.
Man, I definitively need to stop reading posts on other sites. I find it's funny when Charlie gets hurt badly by Dean, people are all "OMG I love that Charlie forgave Dean. Poor Dean, he couldn't control himself with the mark". But they're still holding a grudge about what Sam did in season 4, even when he was full of demon blood. Talk about double standards!!!.
Anytime :P And thanks to you! Supernatural is still an awesome show, I love to find some good and excited fans like me and you :) I always think the same, if you have no enthusiasm for a show and you just complain every time, stop watching. Some people only complain about the bad but say nothing when they see something good either. SPN's fans are a family and who doesn't wants to be part of it, don't come to disturb for no reason.
I suppose you would love them to cut all Dean scenes and there would be only Sam everywhere, right? The number of bitter Sam girls on this site is funny and sad.
This episode was pretty good compared to the other Charlie-centric episodes. I'd watch it again for sure. I don't like the idea of her helping Sam and Dean (based on what she was like in previous episodes), but I think I can tolerate her as long as she doesn't become a series regular...
well thank god I did not watch the show then it like why bother anymore I just read the thing's you guys are writing then I will get the whole show then.
funny and true hey the guy had has a lot of film offers come on your show gave up on you do a movie I seen Friday the 13th 3 times in the theater before ever watching a Ep of SPN so Come one all ready Jared.
Wow, that’s bad. I wonder what the reason for the low rating is… Maybe the viewers are getting tired of numerous guest stars being the focus of this season’s episodes. All the promo for There's No Place Like Home featured Charlie heavily.
The thing is I don't like Charlie at all. I'm not sure if it's the character (who saves the day too often), the actress (who I can't stand), or a combination of both.
Please, where do you see the focus on Dean? I had high hopes for this season but what did we get? Demon Dean storyline was cut after only 3 episode, none of Sam storyline were cut like this. And now we have 2 minutes in every episode to make mention of Mark and you are still complaining? This season they obviously took the focus of the show away from the Winchesters in favor of supporting characters: Cas, Crowley, Hannah, Claire, Rowena, Jody, Donna. Even werewolf in the fourth episode got more screen time than Dean with his Mark. Writers change the show and turn it into the show with ensemble casts. But you’re still complaining about Dean *facepalm*.
Charlie always makes the boys look like idiots that can't fight their way out of a paper bag and has to save at least one of them in every ep. Guess we will have to see her at least once more when she gets the book to save Dean...again.
I tried but all I seen was Dean pissy face and I was like DONE! and its like I seen that before and I do not want too see that again my mom even said they need too get the thing off of Dean it just getting boring she said and I said use a Chainsaw and go evil Dead and cut it off and she found that funny. but I tried too watch it.
And Charlie not that good I liked her in the beginning but it like come if you bring back someone they get killed off and its like WHAT? so every time you bring them back it like are they going too die or get a spinoff.
Haha! I actually like the Ghostfacers. Too bad they were ruined last year in that horrific anvil-filled episode but I always found them to be funny. I dislike Charlie over all the other guest stars.
Supernatural nowadays is not the series that it was for me, and I really LOVE Charlie, so this episode is the only one that I have cared about in the season, I'm still watching because I love the brothers, but to me... Supernatural should have been ended long time ago.
it's a pity we'll never get to see their version of Oz :( but the wizard being the dark side of a man of letters that split and went power hungry explains so much...
Even Thompson is sad about this. I saw that, too, I have to add that I doubt Thompson is mad about this Charlie/Sam scene being cut but rather the (in the likely) same scene where Charlie tells Sam about her relationship with Dorothy. This is single time in her live tweet while the episode aired that Felicia Day even mentions Jared. Her twitter timeline is full of Jensen references. It's a pity and gives me an even more unfavorable impression of 'Charlie' either good or bad Charlie. This episode had to be close to or even the most screen time Jared and Felicia shared and JP only got a single mention and was not anything about Sam's concern for Dean.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
ReplyDeleteI can say this............. AWESOME EPISODE!

ReplyDeleteI felt bad for Charlie. She was all bruised up cuz of Dean. Also i was hoping Dean wouldn't drink that shot. Im glad he didn't.
ReplyDeleteEpisode was ok. I hated Dark Charlie. But I was happy to see Charlie back in general.
ReplyDeleteI didn't care for this episode either. It was boring to me, and I can't say I ever cared about Charlie so . . . .

ReplyDeleteDean gets all the action. Sam gets tied up, taken out of the fight, and saved by the guest star. Same old, same old.
ReplyDeleteFunny thing is that I was thinking when watching the scene between Sam and the Wizard: OMG, THEY'RE MAKING SAM USELESS, TYING HIM UP AND CHOKING HIM. THEY NEVER DO THAT. SHOCKING!!!!

ReplyDeleteAt the rate Sam's intellect continues to decline 'Celeste' might find the final key to removing the mark (next season?) before Dean and Sam do
ReplyDeleteUgh . . . Sam should be limited to one thing. As you said, he can be both geeky and active. ReplyDeleteLOL! You are probably right as Sam gets more stupid w/each passing episode.
ReplyDeleteIt will probably be a Crowley/Dean-centric episode.... That's if Crowley's mommy lets him out to play! lol

ReplyDeleteYou should watch it though, Kerinda. You might like it. It just didn't do anything for me. I'd like to hear what you thought of it though.
ReplyDeleteAnother Sam-scene was cut?!? WTF!!! Do the directors and editors have something against Jared?
ReplyDeleteWow, that’s bad. I wonder what the reason for the low rating is… Maybe the viewers are getting tired of numerous guest stars being the focus of this season’s episodes. All the promo for There's No Place Like Home featured Charlie heavily.

ReplyDeleteThey've been doing this to Sam for years.
