  1. "Your visions came from soup not God." Hahahaha Best line ever.

  2. Great episode for me, one of the best. Can't wait to heat all your thoughts :)

  3. Love all the plots that started coming together in this episode. Interesting that Treville is relieved as captain before Porthos discovers what he is hiding. I figured a Porthos vs the captain storyline coming.
Also loved how Constance and Athos worked together briefly....even though they didn't say much. More of that please!

Also, Anne is lovely. Sometimes she looks quite angelic or childlike. Lovely. Interesting directions taken both by Aramis with her and Marguerite this episode.

  4. Yes, it's starting to slowly pull together. That continues too in the next episodes too I'd say, little by little.

    ReplyDelete
  5. It was a wonderful episode and beautifully acted. I particularly loved athos helping emilie with the poisoning. It was so well pieced together, a very emotional Episode. However, I cant pretend im not disappointed at the lack of constagnan scenes particularly as we are four episodes in and the next shows no sign of constance appearing at all. I really hope they dont cram what could be an amazing continuation of their love story into the last couple of episodes. Apart from my rant I throughly enjoyed the episode overall!

    ReplyDelete
  6. I'm glad to see an overall lack of sulking on the Constagnan part. I also wish Treville got a bit more to do as captain this series before he was relieved.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I really enjoyed this episode - the first time this season I've been able to say that. Lots of plot development and best of all, plenty of Aramis!

    ReplyDelete
  8. I liked Constance working with both Aramis and Athos this week. It worked much better than when she was alone in the last episode imo.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Excited about an Athos episode next week.

    ReplyDelete
  10. And she looked so pretty. =)

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yes, loved Constance working with them and the interaction between them. Much more believable than her working alone. Also, loved the way she protected Anne when they went to Emilie's camp!

  12. I'm beginning to think that Rochefort is going to kill Milady. In a really sick, twisted way. He likes to do that. And he is definitely not done using her. I think that could be a really interesting scene. She is always outwitting everyone, but I don't think she can outwit him forever. If we have to lose her this series, she needs to have a good death.

    ReplyDelete
  13. You could be right about that. I don't think Milady is going to survive this series. It's a shame as I really love her character. Hopefully, we'll see redemption for her first. Totally agree with you that Milady needs a good death if she is going to die. Rochefort is truly becoming evil. I thought he was going to cotton on to something going on between Anne and Aramis as well, but guess that will happen later on.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I must add I really appreciated Andy Hay's direction of this episode He does the set-pieces very well, eg, the scene with Milady looking out of the palace window and Rochefort in the gardens below, and Emilie and Aramis riding into the palace, two lovely scenes.

  15. A good episode this week, with more Musketeers than we had last week and more character interaction between all the main players.

I warmed to Emille as the episide went on and I liked her 'friendship' with Aramis..

So Rochefort is getting even more nasty? Good....

Will Rochefort be the Musketeers new boss or are they going to be out and about on their own/with someone else? It would certainly give us more Rochefort/Musketeer scenes of the former were to happen..

Liked seeing Constagnan as 'friends' at last, that was very much missing from the last episode. Their near kiss was a step in the right direction too..

I've never going to change my mind about the lack of 'bromance' and humour in the new series but overall, it's turning out to be a good series.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I always miss so much the first time around :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Loved it! Rochefort getting even more evil ups the stakes even more and makes me excited to see what is ahead, the writers aren't holding back on his immorality which could mean darker consequences for other characters.

Also as per usual loved Aramis. His relationship with Emilie was very well done and I was surprised at the kiss between him and Anne. They just can't help themselves! Though it was worrying to see Rochefort threaten Marguerite, she seems quite innocent in everything. But I'm kind of hoping there's more to her than meets the eye, bad or good.

    ReplyDelete
  18. He's been out of sorts so far this season I think, mainly due to the fact that he hasn't been able to talk to Anne about his child imo. Having lost his previous child and now having to be separated from this one must be very hard on him.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sorry to say I couldn't care less what happens to Marguerite. I've not been drawn to her at all.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I understand that....she's not very interesting. I liked her best when we first met her.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Me neither - not really warmed to her yet.

    ReplyDelete
  22. And we're back!!! Much, much, MUCH better!! :D Dialogue, plots, continuity, all absolutely what we've come to expect. Loved it!

Although I'm worried about the lovely Captain losing his job, I noticed him with the boys at the end of the 5 trailer, so at least he's not gone, just demoted. I'm thinking of a four letter word to describe Louis at the moment but it might get deleted. :( Constance and D'Artagnan, perfect, heading in the right direction, and poor Porthos clearly heading for painful reveals soon. I was starting to like Perales too. Shame to see him go, he's been a great character.

Line of the week has to go to Athos. "Your visions came from soup, not God."

    Happy happy! :D

    ReplyDelete
  23. I really enjoyed it! It seems like the subplots are really starting to form underneath the weekly episode's plot.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm really loving Athos this year :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Already rewatching it here too. :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I've got a feeling Constance hasn't told D'Artagnan about Rochefort slapping her across the face and his other bits of intimidation, perhaps because she thinks he'd overreact and get himself into danger..

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm actually OK with Constagnan's progress now that we've seen this episode. Having them jump back into bed right now is too soon. I'm happy they're friends again, and that she's trusting him with her concerns. I had been worried, but as I'd hoped, this week has shown how things are between them after some questionable yo-yo-ing from Constance. If we'd got to the end of this week's and she was STILL doing it, I'd have panicked, but now I'm ok to impatiently twiddle my thumbs for the Big Reunion. :D

But if Aramis and Anne get another love scene before they do I'll not be happy. :P

    ReplyDelete
  28. I really, really enjoyed the episode :) There are so many plots and subplots brewing I can't keep up. How they are going to bring these all to conclusion by episode 10 is going to be fabulous to watch. There are so many good points about this episode. Good to see d'Artagnan and Constance friends again. Now to rewatch on iPlayer to see the bits I've missed the first time around! Fab episode :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Haha yes! XD Athos was brilliant in that scene!

    ReplyDelete
  30. He has no problem hitting women as this episode has proven. It makes me wonder why Anne doesn't see through his facade.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I like that Constance is back to her 'sidekick' role helping the Musketeers after a few months in the wilderness at the Palace. It's only a matter of time though before Rochefort picks up on it and tries to strong-arm her with blackmail and threats. Mind you, he's already struck out once in trying to bring her to his side, which is why he's gone after Marguerite instead. Constance's secrets aren't really a secret - snogging a Musketeer in public wasn't exactly discreet - and at least she already knows to go to D'Artagnan or the others with her concerns about Rochefort. She's not going to try to handle it on her own.

I was thinking that Milady being at the Palace may actually be a good thing - never thought I'd say that! - because she's seeing what Rochefort is up to and has plenty of reasons herself for wanting him strung up. She knows he was the one pushing for Treville to be removed, and her information will certainly prove useful if/when she has to team up with the Musketeers at some later point against him.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I was surprised about the Aramis / Anne kiss, I must say.. :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm hoping the new Captain is Rochefort, unless he can't do that job AND be Captain of the Red Guards. It would bring some much awaited one-on-one interaction between him and the boys..

d'Artagnan was already getting in Rochefort's face a bit in this episode.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Love how that line was followed by him monitoring someone overcoming the use of a drug while he continuously pours wine. Haha Only Athos...

    ReplyDelete
  35. Will they appoint a new Captain? I feel really sorry for Treville. It's not looking good for him at the moment! :(

    ReplyDelete
  36. So much better than episode three and so much there to enjoy. Emma Lowndes was brilliant as Emilie. Some great performances. Santi played it beautifully and tonight illustrated perfectly exactly why Tamla and Luca need to share more scene. We had two very brief very simple moments and yet they were utter perfection. The look on Constance's face when it looked like he'd walked past her and then the lovely, fun, sexy little exchange between them. The follow up scene in the tavern was classic Constagnan. Have any two people ever wanted to kiss each other more? More of this and I'll be a very happy bunny. My love for Tom knows no bounds and tonight he was magnificent. Completely agree with Knitty the "soup" line was definitely the line of the night, delivered dry as a bone. Poor Treville. This is actually the journey I thought he might go on. How heartbreaking to devote your life to the service of such an unworthy man. Throw in the ominous developments with Porthos and I suspect the later half of the series will be a very bumpy ride for the Captain....or should that be ex-Captain. Definitely much more grizzly tonight with the Silence of the Lambs style exit for Navas and the ear in a box moment. All in all, some terrific moments, loaded with portent. Notable mention too for Milady. When you want a job doing...If only Perales had sought her out. Delighted to see the series back on track. More of this please.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think he did cotton on to Anne and Aramis. He seemed suspicious at their closeness when they returned - Anne reached out her hand to him as she left with her maids, and he reciprocated - which I think is what led him to latch onto Marguerite.

    ReplyDelete
  38. His deadpan delivery gives him some of the best lines overall. He had some great ones in series 1, especially "no, let's keep this suicidal' in The Exiles. :P

    ReplyDelete
  39. That would be an interesting appointment if Rochefort is the new Captain. It would mean more scenes with them together, which would be good. I noticed d'Artagnan was more in his face too.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm OK with Constagnan after this episode, especially if episode 6 is a crucial one for them..

I'm hoping there's a bit more of D'Artagnan in the next few episodes though.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Yes, agreed, he is my favourite director on the show. The scene when Emilie first rode into the palace is one I liked too, seeing it from her perspective as she gazed up in wonder at it all.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Maybe Athos? It'd make sense as he's Treville's defacto number 2 anyway. Putting someone else in as their new Captain would only derail the momentum, and surely they've got enough to be dealing with without that? I can't see it being Rochefort, he's busy enough causing havoc at the palace.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Already noticed on second watch how Anne was almost channeling Ninon in the scene with Constance, when she was talking about the King and Milady in bed. The dress, the sheer sleeves, even the pose were almost identical to Ninon in her convo with Athos in her bedroom. Strange the things you notice!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Athos is a possibility...

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ah, I missed that. I'm rewatching now, so will look out for that. It's all getting really interesting with all these side plots! :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. I wasn't expecting that at all. I had it in my head that their night at the convent was 'it', and from now on they'd be distanced, but the flirtiness and kiss were definitely a surprise!

    ReplyDelete
  47. It was classic Constagnan - made me very happy! :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Great episode, enjoyed it thoroughly! The overall story fitted like a glove, but what I liked too were all those little, tiny pinches that we, viewers, got... like Porthos demanding to know more about the legacy... Athos being forced to look into the mirror by Milady... Constance and d'Artagnan's unspoken but o so present love for each other... and of course Aramis' fantastic inner turmoil. Great great episode. Can't wait for next week!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I think Rochefort killing the prostitute - whose name we didn't even get to learn either! - was very chilling. Has to be the worst of his murders so far, absolutely terrifying that he can be so cruel and twisted. Love the way it was filmed too, lovely work!

Aramis was great this week too, I do like how he always seems to find a way to relate to women one on one, even those whom he fundamentally disagrees with. Though, saying that, the relationship with Marguerite does seem to be the exception. That does concern me a bit as it could be something he comes to regret imo.

    ReplyDelete
  50. She'll be saving it for the right moment.. And I can't wait to see D'Artagnan's reaction...

    ReplyDelete
  51. There were so many lovely little character moments which really helped make this a great episode. Especially when it was two of the Musketeers interacting with each other - d'Artagnan's "Do you want to be alone?" or Aramis' "Athos has experience with this" for example. These are the kind of things I want to be seeing more of!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I actually loved this episode! Having Aramis back was really nice, he was a little out this season, Rochefort is getting creepier, i wonder how Milady will fit into his plans, the whole "i'm good now" thing, i'm not buying it. Loved Constance and Anne interactions, was good to see Anne a little more determined. Athos still the best, i want him to be happy so bad!! And Anne and Aramis was great, the impossible loves always gets to me, still waiting for their conversation on the baby tho. I have the felling someone is gonna die this season. Poor Baby Treville:( Will we ever meet the spanish king??

    ReplyDelete
  53. That's the site's resident troll who votes Awful on every poll ;) lol

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yeah that part with the prostitute had me all tense though I thought she was much doomed from the moment she was introduced. I am very much enjoying him as a villain as he is more involved and hands on than the cardinal it seems which makes everything a lot more personal.

Yeah him and Marguerite seem a bit forced, on purpose though as he is obviously doing it to get close to the Dauphin, but Aramis is seems quite conflicted about what he is doing. I am very much hoping Marguerite is bad in some way, think it could be interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Yes, you're right, she does look and act like Ninon in that scene. Loved her dress :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. It will be interesting to see if she turns out to be anything more than a mere plot device,

    ReplyDelete
  57. I think D'Artagnan was well used in episodes 1 and 2 but he's been paying for that by clearly having less screentime in episodes 3 and 4.

During S1, it took until episode 7 for him to have limited screentime and I think it took until episode 7 or 8 for Aramis to have limited screentime, so you can clearly see the difference in how the Musketeers are being used in this series, in order to make way for all the goings-on at Court.. A part of me thinks the change was right but a more selfish part of me is a bit dissapointed.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Those are perfect examples of the kind of moments I felt were sorely missing from eps 1 to 3 of this season - The Musketeers without that sort of interaction between the titular characters really isn't The Musketeers at all IMHO!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Yes I have to say I am happy in that respect that they are now on friendly terms and we can certainly see their obvious feelings for eachother. I wasnt disappointed with the scene itself more the lack of others but im very impatient so perhaps its just me! It definitely has got me excited to see their relationship develop further although I dont think they will appear together at all in the next episode as it seems to be an athos based ep which I have no Complaints about at all ;) however I hope episode six will have more from constagnan. Do we know if it holds any particular significance?

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm really not feeling the relationship between Aramis and Marguerite. Santi generally has chemistry with a door but alas not with Charlotte Salt. We haven't really seen much of her thus far but sadly I wasn't hugely impressed with her performance, yet again. For me, she's a weak link in the chain. Given that so many of the other guest stars (Antonia Thomas in particular) have knocked it out of the park, she's just not that great. Maybe there's more to come from her. I hope so.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I agree that that constagnan scene, although brief gave me alot of hope for future episodes. Ive got it on repeat now to get me through the week!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Seriously, if this is what they can do with two little scenes...we'll need fire extinguishers next to out TVs in a few weeks time, I suspect...

    ReplyDelete
  63. Constagnan seriously need more screentime together in episode 6, otherwise the new tone for the show is definately not good for the biggest romantic ships.

The D'Artagnan/Athos scene was a bit short too but Sandi did warn about that with her use of the word "brief" :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. I loved this aspect of the episode too Sandi. Some really strong writing. The subtle and not so subtle hints and suggestions. Nice little treat for fans of Anne and Aramis too. So now Constance knows the truth about the affair. It wouldn't take Einstein to connect the dots with the Dauphin. The plot definitely thickened tonight...

    ReplyDelete
  65. Of course dont get me wrong their scene this week was definitely a step forward I dont necessarily want them back together just like that (maybe in an ideal world!) But im hoping their progress will spread out across the episodes as they have started to do. Im just concerned that they spend so much time with a build up that the actual romance itself is lost. cant wait to see more though!!

    ReplyDelete
  66. But notice the BBC ramping up the Constagnan promotion online. First Tamla's vid, then the tweet earlier about 'can a love be reignited', or whatever it was, now another one saying "Just kiss already!" They're bashing us over the head with it at the moment, so maybe that's cause for hope? Unless they're screwing with our heads (and I wouldn't put it past them) or whoever runs the BBC twitter feed is just a Constagnan shipper. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  67. I actually think it's okay to portray him as "out of sorts" given all the circumstances that you describe. What has been annoying me in the first 3 episodes of this season is that we have hardly seen him, in fact all of the Musketeers were sidelined to a certain extent in those previous episodes. Tonight was a very welcome change of pace and a return to what I consider the core strengths of the show, with the Musketeers at the centre of their own show.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Rochefort killing the prostitute was definately the most violent scene in the whole show so far, especially as strangling someone is a very personal way to kill.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Someone voted 'Awful'? I'm very surprised. This was by all accounts an excellent episode. I wonder where it fell short for them?

    ReplyDelete
  70. I couldn't help laughing when I saw Treville for the first time tonight, though, having seen Luke's Instagram pics today of new Rottweiler puppy....named Hugo. What a tribute! :P

    ReplyDelete
  71. I think when we do get Constagnan, we'll get it to the max. I have a feeling we may, quite suddenly go from a virtual famine to a feast.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I agree that scene was certainly chilling. The Way that she picked up on the fact that he'd never asked for her name really got to me and I think that made it all the more disturbing for me, rochefort really doesnt care about anyone but himself...and perhaps anne in his own deluded way. as for marguerite, I feel like we have yet to see her definite role in the plot so far as shes stayed sidelined for a while but perhaps this new blackmailing scandal with rochefort will liven her character up. On a completely unrelated side note; did anyone else feel the frustrated sexual tension between rochefort and milady in the corridor scene? its a shame theyre both troubled and borderline insane...they could have been a good match!

    ReplyDelete
  73. From what Tamla hints at in the video, I think you're right.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Great point Emma about him not even asking her name. I actually think this is very brave to take Aramis to such a dark place. One in which he's essentially using a woman not for physical gratification but to gain limited access to his son. What I think he hasn't considered is that he's praying on her emotions too. He's manipulating a lonely and vulnerable woman. That's incredibly cruel and something for which I suspect he'll pay a high price.

    ReplyDelete
  75. There will be blood.....He's heading for a D'Artagnan kebab special.:)

    ReplyDelete
  76. I was afraid to watch this show as the last attempt at a Musketeers movie was so god damned awful it put me off the whole idea, but I finally and warily looked at the first episode last week and couldn't believe how good it was and how god damned funny this show can be. I am all in now.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Yay! Another convert. Welcome on board. Come into the tent..just don't drink the broth....:)

    ReplyDelete
  78. Phenomenal line, beautifully delivered..ah Tom Burke we love you so...

    ReplyDelete
  79. It works because they're in hot leather, not silly tabards. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  80. They've certainly had him stepping up in the leadership role this year. On the plus side, the Garrison will never have so much wine.

    ReplyDelete
  81. All I could think when I saw the pics was, what a lucky puppy getting to snooze in those arms.:)

    ReplyDelete
  82. ITA
    Loved this episode

    ReplyDelete
  83. LOL. I'd fly to England, or wherever, for that talk as long as the boys were there too. :)

    ReplyDelete
  84. I think it'd be more interesting to see it be someone else - the king picking someone to lead them they're not certain they can trust.

    ReplyDelete
  85. She has been portrayed as a very simple and naive lady who has no idea what courtly affairs are about. The difference between how she reacted to Rochefort's creeping up to her about Anne and Constance's in episode two was very deliberate I think. As was her misreading Aramis looking through the door at Anne and the Dauphin in the last episode, and the lack of attention/intensity he has with her compared to when he is with Anne. She is essentially someone who has been used, and I think we are meant to see that about her. Aramis could well be in a lot of trouble here unfortunately...

    ReplyDelete
  86. Well, Milady counted three....:P

    ReplyDelete
  87. I did think it was funny when Constance tried to comfort Anne by telling her, "When you truly love someone, all the tricks in the world don't matter." Yeah, that's easy for you to say love. We've seen the inside of your mind. You don't need to worry. You've got a bloke with more tricks than David Copperfield! :)

    ReplyDelete
  88. Totally agree with you there. It was his work on Knight Takes Queen that really won me over last year for exactly the same reason, though his vistas in that were stunning too. I especially liked the opening - the calm tranquil of the lake and then the rough cut to the lads scuffing up the 'new boys' pauldron :)

    ReplyDelete
  89. Yeah I noticed that too. I don't think they are screwing with us. I think in a few weeks time the Constagnan ship will be setting sail once again. Big time...

    ReplyDelete
  90. Yeah and as she detoxed he says to Constance, "Give her some wine." The Athos solution to all ills, wine.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I reckon Constance could count some more...

    ReplyDelete
  92. Leather and HOT, Sexy, Mature, playful Men = awesome show. I'm living vicariously through you guys tonight. I still have to wait a week to see it here in the USA. :( but at least I know it will be worth the wait. :) Cheers

    ReplyDelete
  93. Will do... I soo can't wait!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Come back when you've seen it and let us know what you think! You'll definitely enjoy this one!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Maybe one day they'll compare notes? They are, after all, in remarkably similar situations. Both married young and clueless to men they don't love, and both finding discovery and fulfillment with far more experienced Musketeers. What interesting girl talk that would be. :P

    ReplyDelete
  96. He's the director I voted for on the poll. His episodes have been my favorite in those aspects. He does great with camera angles and focus shifts, really subtly getting at the emotion in a scene without hitting you over the head with it.

In this episode, I particularly liked the camera pan from Aramis to Athos after Aramis said, 'Athos will watch over you. He has experience in these matters.' It allowed that seen to say a ton without 'saying' a ton, and showed the connection and history between the characters in a really subtle yet weighty way.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Weirdly enough I had a relative in an Olympic fencing team. Shame I never met him to get a few tips!

    ReplyDelete
  98. I'm guessing Anne's question would be, "How many times??!!!" :)

    ReplyDelete
  99. My favorite episode so far. Obviously my Annamis loving heart is happy. But, I loved Athos/Milady finally talking. Constance was wonderful as usual and poor Treville.
I even loved Rochefort in this episode. He is really spinning his evil web.

    ReplyDelete
  100. One of my favorite all time scenes from series one. The contrast was so perfectly played.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I've liked her performance so far, like some of the others have said, I don't think there is meant to be any chemistry there. She's reading completely the wrong signals from him, if anything it's slightly embarrassing and awkward, which is what I think they are trying to make it as a relationship. When he was telling her about how she would go on and meet someone else, for example, all she could do was fiddle with his cross (well Anne's really) and she didn't appear to be listening to him at all. I don't think she takes in any of the negative side of it fully and is fooling herself in many ways.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Haha! the naughty Gascon farmboy and the sexy flame haired milk maid. You she's had that dream...

    ReplyDelete
  103. A really lovely and clever visual was just after Constance said to D'Artagnan that it was great that they could have these chats together as friends (yeah right!) and they both sucked in their lips at exactly the same time, as though by doing that they could keep them under control and stop them doing something totally random, like ohhh say, snogging each other's faces off. Brilliant.:)

    ReplyDelete
  104. Hmm, I don't think I would consider Milady insane at all, if anything I think she's probably one of the characters who very much lives in the real world and is very pragmatic. I think she'd definitely have the edge over Rochefort if he decides to push her too far, he's completely bonkers, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I agree, and I think people need to be wary of confusing actress with character. Marguerite's lack of chemistry with Aramis is certainly by design, not poor acting. For all we know Santi and Charlotte got on like a house on fire, they're just too good at acting to let it show on camera if their characters needed to be as badly matched, chemistry-wise, as they are.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I agree, this has got to come around at some point and she's either going to get killed, or the writers will let Aramis (or someone) save her in the nick of time. The only thing is, I don't feel bad for her yet, and I think I should. I should feel bad for her - here she is, innocent and caught up in the manipulations of court life and Aramis's manipulative seduction with no grasp of what she's gotten herself into.

Yet, with how they've played the character so far, I just don't feel for her. She's a little annoying and seems a little self-absorbed. I'm just not sure if that's purposeful on the writer's part or not.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I do wonder though if they're setting her up to believe her own fantasy of having changed - like she likes the idea of no longer being a killer, but is it something she can do? Conversely, I think she likes the games of power and prestige too much to not default back when pushed. And, in that, I think Rochefort may actually be outmatched.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I've started to notice that. It made me wonder if that was just how someone was getting their jollies.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Her storyline hasn't really been fleshed out yet, so hopefully we'll get a bit more depth from her personality as the series progresses, especially if she comes to understand what Aramis is up to. She'll either stay naive and innocent before being thrown away by the plot, or she could turn to the dark side when she learns the truth and try stupidly for revenge or payback. Like all the unsatisfying plot dragging in the first three episodes, hers is another arc where we're going to have to wait longer for some movement.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I do get the feeling that she briefly thought she had changed in this episode. The scene of her on her bed, with her choker off, huge grin, then throwing the windows open. In that moment before she saw Rochefort standing there in the gardens, I really do think she had made her mind up - that's it, the past is behind me, I'm a new woman. Like you, I do wonder if she will ever be able to reach that point again now Rochefort is there, and what her tipping point will be.

    ReplyDelete
  111. During S1 they didn't bother with the show, but now it's a lot more popular on the site I guess they must feel it threatens their favourite show, or something. I dunno, who really knows how their minds work...

    ReplyDelete
  112. Welcome to the site! There's definitely still sparks flying between them isn't there :)

    ReplyDelete
  113. She does feel a bit like a nobody, I'm not sure if that's by design or not, I tend to lean towards that we are supposed to feel like that about her though. It's not as if we haven't spent enough time at court for her not to have been fleshed out, so there must be a reason for it. I get the feeling that perhaps we are meant to be feeling like this about her because Aramis does, to a certain extent perhaps. She is also a fairly blank canvas at present, which makes me think that she will be easily led later on maybe?

    ReplyDelete
  114. I liked many many things in this episode. Porthos's plot though, I'm glad it's deepening and we saw some good interaction between him and the captain. His pushing the captain with 'you're not a very good liar' and being ordered to back off anyway, very much made me think of 'The Good Soldier' with Aramis pushing the captain to tell the truth about something, and being ordered to back off and let it go.

Porthos so ardently defended Treville in that situation, drawing his line in the sand to have Treville's back, and I'm really hoping we get all the conflict of that loyalty and belief with wherever they take Porthos from this moment forward. With him pushing for the truth against orders and in defiance of this man he has so much respect for - bring on the pain! (But bring on the understanding and forgiveness afterwards, please).

    ReplyDelete
  115. Loved that photo!! Made my heart melt!

    ReplyDelete
  116. And who could forget the burnt fish scene, another wonderfully directed piece :)

    ReplyDelete
  117. I think that could very well be the case. I also wonder now if she's possibly been portrayed as she is so the audience will grasp on and feel, at least at this time, that she is in no way to be relied upon to defend the dauphin if necessary (but it might be cool if that turned out differently). Perhaps her lack of interest in her job is a way to heighten the sense of danger the dauphin is in? Would she really protect her prince if push came to shove?

The feeling of danger to the dauphin when Rochefort was leaning over his crib and holding the baby's hand was, as Luke said in an interview, very snake-like. And foreshadowing I think. Rochefort being a threat to the dauphin. With Marguerite in the middle of all this - will she sell the dauphin and the queen out to save herself, or surprise us?

    ReplyDelete
  118. My favorite scene from that episode is between Athos and Milady!!! They are so beautiful together and perfect for each other!!! Love is forever for those two :)

    ReplyDelete
  119. Yes, there is this sense of ambiguity about her, that could very well be what they are after with her character. Anne did say in the first episode that she cannot trust any of her ladies, that they gossip like fishwives, or words to to that effect. Yet we haven't even seen that in Marguerite's nature at all. I think you could be on to something there, we will be left wondering how she will handle a huge betrayal later on in the series perhaps?

    ReplyDelete
  120. Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting she and Santi don't get along perfectly well. That has no real baring on chemistry anyway. There have been actors who have hated each other who've had incredible chemistry on screen. I also accept that her character's relationship with Aramis is meant to be a somewhat strange and uncomfortable one and I'm not confusing the actor with the character, I'm just not particularly enjoying Charlotte's performance. It's just a personal sense and to be honest, is a bit of an intangible feeling. Maybe I'll enjoy it more as she settles in, her storyline progresses and we see her bringing out new aspects of the character.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Porthos ain't daft is he, he knew exactly what that gift was about straight away, and he isn't going to let it drop either is my guess. I'm very curious about that story, have been since episode one, so I hope that it plays out well, its build up has been promising so far!

    ReplyDelete
  122. Yes exactly, he's got to remember that whole conversation of 'have we met before?' that he had with the general, too. And he ain't daft at all. I just want them to do a good job showing the depth of conflict Porthos's got to have to even question Treville's honor and go against his orders, which he perviously wasn't willing to do, even for Aramis, ya know? Treville as Porthos's father figure and the finest man he's ever met. I just want them to do this plot justice, and not make it too contrived. Give it layers and depth and all the things I love. :)

The interaction in this episode was promising in that regard.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I agree, in that first seen it was like she had turned back the clock ...she was carefree and happy. She was going to erase the past, but as Athos said "the past is never dead". Rochfort will not let her forget. She has too many skeletons in her closet. Mamie did say in that interview that by the end of the season we will feel sorry for Milady.....and I think it might be that no matter how she will try she will never be able to escape who she was

    ReplyDelete
  124. I think that would be very interesting, we haven't seen any indication of it and it would be a good surprise if she turned out evil, maybe placing the queen and the Dauphin in danger, Aramis would be in a difficult situation, sort of paying for misleading her. Besides the quiet ones are usually the most dangerous, especially if they are possessive, like Rochefort towards Anne.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I was surprise for how it happen, for the level of intimacy is looks like they've been seeing eachother the whole time and only now we know about it! But i liked, Aramis and Anne are a good ship for me!

    ReplyDelete
  126. I didn't get the sense they'd been seeing each other the whole time. More like they'd agreed to not, but this moment alone afforded them an opportunity (albeit a risky one). I felt this was probably the most intimate they'd been since the convent. Of course, show could prove me wrong, but, yeah.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Such a great episode! I loved how everyone was intertwined in the main stories this week. It was awesome to see Constance and Anne's relationship. Up until this point it has been more of an assumed friendship for the audience but we got so much interaction between them it was great! Her walking in on Anne and Aramis was not something I saw coming but like Anne said, Constance now has the Queen's life in her hands. I wonder how she will deal with that/will it be carried over the rest of the season. Cute scene between Constance and D'Artagnan at the garrison. I loved Luke's delivery of the "are you waiting for me" line. I found it quite flirty and adorable. Athos also had some great lines in this ep! I can't wait to find out more about Porthos but I feel like it will be quite the sad backstory. And Treville! That I was not expecting. I wonder how he will fit in now if he is no longer their commander. One of my personal favourite scenes of the episode was the last scene between Athos/Milady. Milady's line "Whatever I am, you love me. And you always will" really stood out to me. Their twisted back story that influences their current dynamic just fascinates me. Overall incredibly enjoyable episode. Such a bummer that there is another break though.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Best episode of the season so far!
(and that it was Aramis/Anne heavy has very little to do with me thinking that, I promise! ;P )

Speaking of: YAY! Some Aramis/Anne action!!! FINALLY!! And oh was it worth it!

Ha! Emilie was shrumed. Nice to see Athos helping her with the withdrawal.

Glad to see Constance and D'Artagnan being able to talk to eachother like normal people again. It reminded me of the early days of S1 (which is when I liked them the best actually)

I felt the Porthos storyline was a bit shoehorned in there. I felt it was unnecessary for the episode and took me a bit out of the more important things.

    Poor Treville.

My urge to punch Louie intensifies with each passing episode.

Milady's best part of the episode was her talking to Athos, and her trying to help Treville keep his job. The rest was so-so... Don't love seeing her be reduced to Louie's mistress, nor did I particularly like her interactions with Roshefort. She should have been a better match for him. I felt she let him get off easy.

Speaking of #2: I think that's part of the reason I'm losing interest in Rochefort. I feel he's winning too easily without him earning it. His machinations aren't subtle at all, so he shouldn't be getting away with everything, without much effort. I'm finding it hard to buy it. I miss the Cardinal. He was more slithery and discreet, and a real threat I felt. And really, IMO if both were there they would have balanced each other quite nicely. :(
This is partly what I was expecting from Milady and the fact that Rochefort managed to one up her too, with really circumstantial stuff? Meh...
Plus his crazy obsession with Anne, though interesting in the beginning I think, is being overplayed. He's acting crazy obsessed kinda out in the open now, so it's not as effective anymore. And as I said, he just isn't subtle generally.
He started out great, but I don't know if I'll be able to believe him getting away everytime if they keep this direction up.

    Some side character notes:
    - The doctor so has a crush on Constance...

    - Still not feeling Marguerite.
    - Damn it Perales! Just as you were growing on me, and standing up to Roshefort... And that you crocked before you got to tell Treville what was up... Man!

    ReplyDelete
  129. I don't think we're meant to feel much chemistry between Aramis and Margerite right now, partly because we know that Aramis doesn't love her in the way he loved Adelle..

I don't think she's had enough screentime to stand out as a character yet, though I did find Rochefort's threat to her upping the stakes a bit more.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Men who cuddle animals, gah.......

    ReplyDelete
  131. Their love is already reignited :) they just need to act on it..

Aramis and Anne have got in with a kiss before Constagnan..

    ReplyDelete
  132. Aramis and Marguerite- I think the relationship is Shown intentionally 'bland' and it contrasts so beautifully with the scene with Aramis and Anne. Annamis scenes have a beautiful spark. (Well at least to me :))

    ReplyDelete
  133. I can't be the only one who doesn't want Constance and D'Artagnan as a couple... I just,no. Not again please.

Now,don't get me started on Aramis and the Queen...

    ReplyDelete
  134. On no I wouldnt say milady herself is insane but her actions sometimes certainly leave me wondering what she was thinking! Rochefort however is a different story...he really is crazy!

    ReplyDelete
  135. That last Athos/Milady interaction reinforced my feeling that she's not going to survive this season. Her standing up for Treville, and her almost sincere speech to Athos, could well be the start of an attempted redemption arc before her death. She'll never change, as Athos said, but her motives are a lot more muddled this year and it would make sense if her end followed either helping the Musketeers or fighting Rochefort.

If a female character has to die this year, better her than Constance, in my view.

    ReplyDelete
  136. /Their love is already reignited :)/

    It never went out!

    ReplyDelete
  137. I don't want that either! But I never expected to ship them, both are just too boring and white-picket-fence for my taste. Not fucked up enough! I only ship Athos/Milady, which is why I never comment on this site and try to stay more on Tumblr, but I saw your icon and I just wanted to say that I hope it all works out for Ukraine, the war stops and you guys get to join the EU :)

    ReplyDelete
  138. I doubt you're the only one, but it'll be a minority group;). I'm more in the 'not into Aramis and the Queen' group, which I suspect is even smaller. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  139. Thank you for that, although I am not from the Ukraine, I just have friends there. But again, thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  140. Oh,I am used to being in minority groups :) I always like a couple that other people detest, and I usually dislike the one that everyone like. I am just weird that way.

    ReplyDelete
  141. I'm wondering the same thing. She seems so quite and naive, but now she's conscious on how Aramis feel, and Rochefort can break her the news of the Queen/Aramis affair at any time... and we know how much he can be manipulative in this cases. We don't know her that well to be able to imagine for sure her possibly reaction and that's, at least for me, intriguing.
I wonder if Rochefort will mention the Marguerite/Aramis affair to the Queen just to see her reaction.
He's starting to collect pieces, now is our boys turn.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Agree, even because we never see Rochefort interested in the baby, before. Now he was looking at him with attention, maybe trying to catch some unwanted resemblance with what he saw.

    ReplyDelete
  143. I really loved the interaction between Constance and Anne. I am so glad that they have become friends and will look out for each other, especially with Milady around. I loved the scene when Anne hugs Constance after her nightmare. It is going to be a big test for Constance keeping the secret about Anne and Aramis, although I know she will, although if Marguerite finds out that will be straight back to Rochefort!

    ReplyDelete
  144. Totally agree - I don't want any of three main female characters to die, but if it's going to be anyone, I would rather it was Milady rather than Constance. However, I do love Milady, so it will be a shame if she does.

    ReplyDelete
  145. I have said it before, it would be a great loss to loose Mamie and Milady for season 3 and I really do not think any of the girls are going anywhere if this show does make it to a season 3 officially
I feel they are going to try and take Milady on the road to redemption but in the end with Rochfort's blackmail right when she is making headway she will be once again left all alone. I think that will be the tragedy of her character. Then again I am an American and maybe I have watched to many American soaps through the years and I am projecting: :) In my experience you never want to loose a character like Milady because when all you are left with is black and white characters it starts to get boring.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Oh dear, overnights for episode 4 are around 3.1 million, it's lowest ever rating and not at all good for primetime BBC 1. It'll be doing a Waterloo Road next, somehow still going despite its low viewing figures.

Unless S3 was always garanteed because of overseas sales, cheap(ish) production rates and a "3 year options" contract according to Maimie, the British viewing figures alone could be enough to cancel the show. I never thought Atlantis would get higher viewing figures than the Musketeers but it did.

    ReplyDelete
  147. It's difficult to tell at the moment how Marguerite will deal with the revelation that she is being used by Aramis. It will also be interesting to see how Anne reacts to the news of the affair between Marguerite and Aramis as well. She was pretty jealous of Ninon in season 1 when she saw her wearing the necklace she'd given Aramis. A women scorned (Marguerite) and a jealous Anne, coupled with a crazily, jealous Rochefort is going to be very bad news for Aramis!

    ReplyDelete
  148. That's exactly why as an Annamis shipper i'm worried but overexcited, and at the same time, as a viewer, i can't wait for what come next.

I'm grinning like the cheshire cat.

    ReplyDelete
  149. You are not alone. I am also more of a Milady/Athos fan but I do like the other two couples, it is just I do not see the Ann/Aramis thing going anywhere. I mean she is the Queen and even if he was nobility...SHE is the Queen

    ReplyDelete
  150. Mmh, i think Rochefort will be the one to die.
The writer have already said the story will change a lot in season three, so the current villain has to change or die. I mean, i like Rochefort and i can totally watch a third series with Marc Warren in it, but if Rochefort stays he have to change his purpose and his role... in general.
We can see him plotting now for the throne, the Queen and whatever else, but we can't see him like that even in one year.
(This make me a little sad. I know, he's mental, but still... he's a great character.)

    ReplyDelete
  151. With the show's future not garanteed, I'll just be grateful to get a S3 full-stop, so that D'Artagnan can go one step further to becoming the legendry Musketeer.

    ReplyDelete
  152. And i forgot, maybe Marguerite will tell something to Aramis about Rochefort's behaviour.

At some point people have to start to talk with each other, i hope!

    ReplyDelete
  153. For me it isn't so much that I don't want them as a couple, I'm just not terribly keen on them either, though I suspect I just don't see the chemistry between them that others do. More often than not their scenes drag for me and I don't connect to their pining or feel their connection. It's an unpopular opinion, I'm sure.

    ReplyDelete
  154. I can see that a lot more than Milady dying, although I do not see her being redeemed. I mean she might be reformed in the eyes of the viewers but I still think everyone else on the show will still hold her in contempt and not trust her or else where is the fun in it.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Well lets hope the overseas sales keep it running. I know I am on the other side of the Atlantic and I work with quite a few people watching it on BBCA or like I do on international internet/Dish. It can not help when a show is constantly being preempted or being on Friday night. I know that here in the states Friday night is the kiss of death for a tv show that is not for kids.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Not good :( If filming is due to start in April for season 3, then I can't see how the BBC would cancel it now. However, as I would love to see The Musketeers as a long running show, it makes me sad that these figures are so low. The BBC have done the cast and crew an injustice through it's lack of promotion and putting it on totally the wrong night.

The Musketeers is 100% better show than Atlantis, so I have no doubt that in a better slot with no breaks, and effective promotion, those figures would have been a lot, lot better. I think the BBC will take this into consideration when deciding on its future. I still believe that the BBC have not been bothered because it has been doing so well overseas and bringing in a fantastic revenue for them elsewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  157. I'm actually pretty relieved that it managed to stay over three million. With the disappearance for one week and absolutely no trailers for the episode during the week, I actually thought it would be completely crucified. We've all said it many times before, this disaster lies entirely at the hands of the BBC. The Friday night scheduling has undoubtedly cost them dearly and the complete lack of promotion, was insane. To try now, to salvage that when they're taking the series off every other week for an assortment of sporting events, is a total waste of time. I think we should stop worrying about the overnights. They won't be the determinant of series three. That decision has most likely already been made. I don't think the series will be cancelled at this point but I certainly think series three will be the last.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Ahh yes, I didn't think of that. That is what he could have been doing.

    ReplyDelete
  159. The score this year is just sublime. There has been so much thought put into the feel of each episode, and the individual themes are very striking and recognisable. I have loved Paul Englishby's work on Luther before, but it really is something else on this show. He has gone above and beyond in delivering something very distinctive to each episode!

    ReplyDelete
  160. Agreed, and as much as I do like her character I do think it's right that she can never be happy and forget the past. She has done some terrible things, albeit possibly just to survive in that world. There have been times when she could have taken a different path than the one she did, and she can't just erase those choices. If she wants to turn back the clock then she has to make up for the wrongs that she has done, rather than just let them go in order for the audience to feel any real sense of pity for her character imo.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Yes, I tend to agree with this. There is a very marked difference in how Aramis sees the two relationships, and I think that is how it is meant to come across to the audience.

    ReplyDelete
  162. That's very true, the dumb/muscle trope is one that I'm glad they haven't used for Porthos. The four of them are very well balanced actually when you think about it, and work both as a team and paired off brilliantly.

    ReplyDelete
  163. You're right - there was a definite contrast between the scene with his scene with Marguerite and that with Anne. It is pretty obvious to us where his heart lies. He is playing a very dangerous game with Marguerite, which I fear will end very badly!

    ReplyDelete
  164. There does still seem to be a lot of secrets at court doesn't there, lol

    ReplyDelete
  165. I really enjoyed that scene between Anne and Constance. Personally I think it would have been nice to have had something along those lines in the second episode while Louis was missing too. It helped to establish their bond in a natural and believable manner.

I enjoyed the Milady/Athos scene a lot too, tons of undertone there, both Tom and Maimie can portray so much without even saying a word to each other. Andy Hay is also very clever at finding the shots to enhance those moments too. Their love/hate dynamic undercuts their character's motivation even when they aren't on screen with each other. Tom's performance as Athos in the bar getting bladdered on wine earlier in the episode because of her reappearance, for example, was also another moment I enjoyed.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Totally with you there, one of the reasons that I like Milady is that she isn't a black and white character, especially after this episode. I really would hate to lose her too as she really is the only one like that in the show at present.

    ReplyDelete
  167. I loved the moment when D'artagnan asked him, "What are you doing to do?" and he replied, "Drink". I mean seriously, duh!

    ReplyDelete
  168. I feel we are so on the same page with this show. When I read your posts you express pretty much exactly how I felt watching the show. Thus I am really looking forward to the next few episodes because if you enjoyed them I know I will.

    ReplyDelete
  169. That was one of my favorite scenes of the night as short as it was.

    ReplyDelete
  170. I kind of think he has to die this year too, or at the very least escape and leave the show. There's only so long he can keep hold of his power, he's just too insane for it all not to come crashing down around him before the end of the season imo. Plus, the Musketeers surely have to beat him by the end of the season I think.

I'm not sure that they will entirely win the King's trust back, it looks like they are taking Louis the way of history and making him even more lousy as a monarch. But I think Anne will know their loyalty at least, and Louis will have to grudgingly admit they've save the day at some point perhaps.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Definitely important for the fans to get on iPlayer in the next few days and move this episode up the charts. It's currently at number seven. We can do better than that for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  172. I know that episode three received good reviews elsewhere, but I still think it was a weak episode, and a weak episode to then take a two week break off of. I'm hopeful (perhaps naively) that positive response to this last episode will draw viewers back by word of mouth and that the numbers will rally a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  173. As for Aramis and the queen, I feel their chemistry, but I in no way want them as a couple, nor for it to be a pairing that's pursued beyond this series. I'm hopeful their story and situation will come closer to conclusion/reconciliation by the end of this series, and that if we get a series three, they'll have them both moving on to other (people) plots.

    ReplyDelete
  174. No, you're not the only one. There's a fair few that either don't like either of them as a couple, or feel the chemistry there :)

    ReplyDelete
  175. It had the benefit of creating a poignant moment between the characters with a touch of humour. What a silly thing to ask, d'Artagnan.

    ReplyDelete
  176. I'm sorry that feel that you can't comment on the site due to it. I can say that you're not alone though, and that we don't allow any ship wars to happen here at all. We take anything like that very seriously as we like this to be a place were all fans can get along together. If you ever do have any problems you just have to flag a post, or you can contact me directly if you prefer :)

    ReplyDelete
  177. For me, I think she's a pretty dark and somewhat remorseless character, and that is essentially her nature, but I also think she sincerely believes she wants to be different, and that's the tragic part. I think she can live the fantasy, but when she's pushed, she'll go back to standby rather than sacrifice to be different. As always, I could be wrong about what the show will do with that, but I do find her to be a very interesting character this year, in ways I didn't in the first series.

With the focus on identity and choices, and having all these grey-area and moral challenges brought up for so many of the characters, I've really gotten behind the themes this year, even if every episode hasn't hit it out of the park.

    ReplyDelete
  178. I have to say that I prefer them when they are apart in general, or at least when it's not the will they/won't they stuff - but that's a generally shipping thing for me rather than a specific one for them, if that makes sense. Having said that, I don't feel much chemistry between them though, not in a 'greatest love of my life' sense at all. I would have preferred that they hadn't bothered to have Constance married, or they had given her husband a larger role that made him a nefarious character. As it stands I can't really get behind the relationship and the way they acted last season.

    ReplyDelete
  179. They've balanced all four characters well, blending them with elements from the books while allowing them to be new characters at the same time. Which works for me - helps me get beyond the characterizations elements of each of them in the book that I just never cottoned on to.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Quick question on this (or sort of related to this) - I've noticed since I started commenting that every once in a while when I log in, there's like a sweep of guest up votes on comments. Like, every comment. Is this normal?

    ReplyDelete
  181. It's always better when people have logical and upfront conversations, but on TV, they never do.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Zen, I wish you would feel able to comment on the site. I know not everyone loves Constagnan or indeed enjoys the relationship aspect of the show but I have to say, I think fans are always respectful here. I'm not a huge fan of Anne and Aramis and would prefer to see Athos move on from Milady but I completely appreciate that others really like those couples and I was delighted for Anamis fans last night that they got their moment and similarly that Athos and Milady fans saw an interesting development. I love to hear these perspectives and would certainly not be offended by those who find Constagnan boring. It would be a very dull site if we al thought the same. Variety is the spice of life!:)

    ReplyDelete
  183. It's not something I've noticed on other shows. I do know that there are people on Twitter/social media that do visit here but don't necessarily comment/have an account, so it could be them perhaps. I have been wondering myself recently, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Might have something to do with, oh I don't know, ZERO PROMOTION? I didn't see a single trailer for it, when after a week off they needed to let people know more than ever that it was on. God knows what the figures will be after TWO weeks off. :(

  185. That makes sense. I lurked for a few weeks and would up-vote here and there on occasion before I registered an account. Was just curious.

  186. A different production company is a worry. I've seen it time and again when a show with a well-oiled production and a premise that works gets shifted to someone else and just changes overnight. I'd hate for The Musketeers to pull of a blinder of a second series and then get sunk by a third series made by someone else. Better then BBC did S3 and then let it finish rather than palming it off.

  187. Have the iPlayer figures been released/published for episode 1 yet? I am sure that these will increase the figures by a lot.

Benidorm only has 2 episodes left as well, so hopefully a lot of those people who were watching this will switch to The Musketeers from episode 6 onwards. As episode 6 looks like it is going to be fab, it may keep these additional viewers around for the remainder of the series.

  188. I think you could be right Page about the knock on effect of episode three. It was certainly the weakest episode of the series so far and to enter a brief hiatus on a weak episode, wasn't ideal. However, I think the primary source of the problem is the scheduling. It's a dreadful night for the target demographic. If you think about it, how many young 18-25 year old Luke Pasqualino fans are going to be sitting in the house at 9pm on a Friday night? Similarly, for those of us who love the show and won't see 25 again, lol, Friday isn't ideal between family and social commitments. The confusion over the tone of the show has also been a problem. Last year they undoubtedly lost those looking for much more edge. Instead it had more of a family viewing audience. Would I want my youngest to watch some of what we saw last night? Absolutely not. So I think there are a lot of factors impacting on it right now. When you can't fit your time slot, can't find your audience and are being constantly disrupted and removed from the schedule, the result isn't going to be good.

  189. At this point I'm wondering if it will be the BBC that will be making S3, as I said in another post the other day. It really does feel like they have lost interest in it doesn't it. These breaks haven't even been announced by anyone, it has only been down to guesswork and observing TV guides that we know about them at all ffs! Could it be another network who stumps up the larger share of the money for the next season perhaps?

  190. I kind of think that's why they moved it to Friday nights anyway, feeling that the success of foreign sells make it less dependent on live numbers for a financial return. But, I don't want the show to be put out to pasture and lowered as a priority. I want it to continue with all the support BBC can give it.

  191. Well exactly. I do wonder why/how with the whole thing really

  192. Yes, well put all of this. I do enjoy them as individual characters. The rest - eh.

  193. Does anyone know how it's doing on BBC America, since they've aired a few episodes now? I don't even know what night it is on.

  194. If it was BBC Worldwide/America stumping up the extra cash then I don't think it would be too much of a problem. The only real difference being that it may air a day earlier in America perhaps. I would prefer that to any other option I think. I'm just a bit baffled as to why no announcement yet, is there production details being ironed out?

  195. D'Artagnan: "What are you going to do?"
Athos: "I'm going to drink." Ha! Love it. He says so little but conveys so much. Tom really is fantastic.

  196. Yes, I think he has to die because, realistically, how much further can he go than trying to kill the King and start a war with Spain?! Richelieu could have gone for more than one series because he genuinely had France and the King at heart, however nefariously he did things. Where as Rochefort is an out and out batcr*p crazy nutter who's got to be stopped for the whole country's sake.

  197. Interestingly, I always felt it was the Annamis shippers that made up the main demographic, not Constagnan. Funny how differently people see things! But either way, I don't think one group or another holds any sort of majority in here. Since I've been posting I've seen nothing but polite respect from posters for each others' ships (or lack of same) and the different groups all seem to get on great and discuss things fantastically well. I love the different, intelligent viewpoints in here, whether it's from Constagnan, Annamis, or Milathos fans.

As you say, variety is best, and there's something for everyone!
