Incredible premiere. Classic Justified through and through. Small nods to previous seasons. Lots of ominous undertones. Amazing final scene with Dewey and Boyd. This is going to be an incredible final season.
The response pollsare queued for when shows normally end. The better question is why TV Guide(which should know exactly when the show ends) tweeted the spoiler that someone was going to die and linked to the article with the reveal ten minutes early. At least this one was (ironically, given the name of the site) spoiler free!
In the future though, I’ll be sure to let the site mod know if the episodes going to run long and he’ll decide whether or not to change the publish time.
They use to do the same thing with the what do you think of the Sons of Anarchy episodes too until I pointed it out enough times. Anyway that was an incredible premiere with an ending I didn't see coming and that last shot made me think Boyd thinks the same thing about Ava.
Ah, but this is a problem that can probably be resolved quicker than the SoA one, I actually work for the site. :)
Personally, I think it would be very short sighted of Boyd to not think at the very least that the marshals have eyes on Ava, if not her cooperation. But, you never know, he could just be thinking about how to get back with her. He has shown some short-sightedness in regards to Ava in the past.
That was a great and sad season premiere! And the final scene was ... wow, pretty much everything I'm loving and hoping from Justified! But poor, poor Dewey Crowe, the man who never could change his stupid ways... My favorite scene is the one with Raylan telling Ava that he knows her and that she can do better... helping her to become again the tough woman that she once was. Cannot wait for the next episode!
RIP Dewey Crowe. Loved the opening sequence with Raylan and the Mexican Chief. Great to see Rachel, Tim, and Art again, too. We even got to see Winona and Willa. Episode 1 aka Round 1 goes to Boyd, and we're off to a great start.
RIP Dewey! We are gonna miss your stupid comments! Great start for the final season. Lots of screen time for the best characters. Boyd and Ava can still go one way or the other. Seemed like he was trying to figure her motives out in the last scene. I love that this show is not predictable. I wonder what Boyds plans are for that bank box.
That was such a great opener and sets up the final season nicely. I am so sad about Dewey especially as I have been rewatching S5 and just saw the episode where he has to kill Wade and he gets lost in the woods and its like Dewey you stupid man please be ok and then who kills him? Probably the only person he has left that he considers a friend.
x Joelle Carter is doing amazing work already as Ava stuck in a very hard situation.
x Intrigued already by Garret Dillahunt, an actor I really love and can't wait to see more of.
x Art's words to Raylan seem pretty ominous. I still have no idea who will be left standing at the end.
x And that is the greatest and hardest thing about the series, I want Ava, Boyd and Raylan to all win, to all be safe, to all have some kind of happy ending and that just can't happen for them all and its devastating and makes watching this final season so bitter-sweet.
Strong episode, but since the end of the last season I feel a little expedience in the storytelling. Nothing OOC, more like as if the creators had suddenly realised that Boyd became too likable and try to remedy it.
He has always been ruthless (when he felt necessary), he has never been a good guy, but there were always deeds which made us willing to overlook his criminal acts. Now it has changed, the writers try to emphasise that he is a really bad guy. Might be an overthinking, but e.g. how they showed multiple times the tattooed swastika on his arm - I can't recall when they showed it the last time.
I'm not surprised, considering that this is an american TV show a snowman has more chance in hell to survive the end than he has, but considering all the involved players of the past seasons, it doesn't really click that suddenly Boyd Crowder became the most wanted felon in Kentucky.
Aside from this I was a little surprised how many things the creators left in the shadow in the premiere. Usually they introduced all the mayor players of the season in the first episode, but now they were surprisingly vague. Dilahunt's character has appeared but we don't know anything about him. The heist was obviously on the whisper from Katherine Hale, but we were left in the dark even about its goal and she didn't even appear. I'm not complaining, just it was a different "staging" than the usual.
Well...shit. I gathered Dewey was going to die at some point. His stupidity is a liability and his loyalties change at a whim, but just not now when he was at the point he was.
I was shocked to see Dewey get the bullet this early on in the season & did not expect it. I figured Boyd would repay him for trying to rob him in some other type of manor. At least he had his final funny moment. (Can't even see their eyes)
I don't want this show to end. But now that we know it's ending, I'm so torn on how it will end. Art's words has me worried that Raylan may not make it out alive. Ava, I'm routing for her to make it out alive. A part of me still want that Raylan/Ava riding out of Kentucky for a better life type of thing. Boyd, I don't care if he dies, but he's managed to stay alive and get away with so much that he's become untouchable. I'm sure Boyd knows that it's his time & every law enforcement is trying to take him down in some type of way. So he's playing it safe and smart. Creepy how he's watching Ava sleeping. As smart as Boyd is, he has to have a clue that Ava was given a deal to get out of prison. Heck, something that Dewey said in the episode was a clue to Raylan's involvement in going after Boyd.
The season previews has me worried on who Boyd's telling he's going to put a bullet in boyfriends head.
Winona situation is kind of confusing to me. She left Raylan, told him not to find her, move to Florida & now she wants him to come home to her???? I'm thinking they are split up now together. I know she wants him to come visit Willa, but to have a family with her after she clearly told Raylan she doesn't want him. It's her or his job, makes me not like Winona. Being a Marshal is all Raylan knows & love.
I loved seeing so much of Tim this episode!! Absolutely loved it!!! IDK how I feel about Rachel being the chief but I like seeing her too....
The most loveable, dumb, misunderstood villain on TV - pour one out for Dewey.
Going to miss lines like this one: "I am Dewey G.D. Crowe. And I'm gonna keep on drivin' so I can save the State of Kentucky, and the Government of the United States of America another three hundred thousand dollars for harassment, nell-gi-gence, and general mal-fee-ess-ence...."
I saw it coming - but still quite sad. Kind of an "Of Mice and Men" exit for Dewey. At any rate, there goes the key witness in the Murder One charge and one of the linchpins in the Ricoh case.
I'm excited about the new faces this year. I've enjoyed Dillahunt's work in the past and this looks to be no exception. Don't know much about his character yet, but he sure is interested in Arlo's old property.
Art warning Raylan about the stakes - Raylan plays the odds a lot and it's only a matter of time before he's on the wrong side of one of his showdowns.
The stage is set - should be a great final season.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
The show isn't even over yet why is this already posted?
ReplyDeletePoor Dewey Crow...a tragic figure.

ReplyDeleteDamn it will be sad to see this go. But this was a great premiere. Loved seeing Garret Dilahunt. And poor poor Dewey.
ReplyDeleteGood way to kick off the beginning of the end.

So the first casualty is Dewey Crowe They are going to keep coming this season.
