Totally with you. I'm actually annoyed by the whole extended build-up and brief fart that was Erin's time at the Task Force. Not only was the plot lame, it made Erin look lame. It was also slightly clichéd how they treated her - it was like a 90's throwback. I'm not seeing sexual discrimination doesn't go on, of course it does, but there's no way they go all in to recruit her and then when she gets there they treat her like a witness babysitter. Bad writing.
Great episode, loved the plot and how Voight handled it, he has come a long way. Weakest point was Erin's story, now it seems the task force plot was only there to let Linstead happen. I wonder what happens next, my bet is that Erin will keep Jay at arm's length just to please Voight plus she can avoid to express her feelings towards Jay. I wish the writers would give those two's relationship a try.
Roman and Burgess were great together, I like them more each weak. Even Atwaters part was not as forced as usual. Still don't like Ruzek's Dad but it was not as bad as expected. Cannot wait for next week's crossover event.
I loved the opening Linstead scene. It just oozed chemistry and was totally adorable! I didn't expect Erin to be so playful, I was doubting what would happened after they left together, but I now see Erin in it for a long haul.
Totally agree, If they wanted Erin and Jay to spend the night, the writers could have come up with something else. Besides I think Erin should have given it a bit more time, new jobs are never easy and Voight would always taken her back even after 3 month.
Keeping a "secret" relationship is fine as long as it doesn't enter into juvenile soap territory. Chicago PD's main distinction from Chicago Fire is that it's hard hitting and focused on the cases. I don't want it to become some melodramatic source of drama.
Linstead are not anything like Dawson and Casey. And I think Sophia said it perfectly in the TVGuide artcle, that romance aside, Linstead are great partners. So if the relationship capitalises the partnership and doesn't dampen it, I think we're okay. As much as of Linstead lover I am, I don't want the relationship to ruin their partnership.
Does seem like Erin's move to the feds were to clear the way for Linstead to explore their emotions. However, I look at it as Erin was ambitious with what seem like a good offer. Her intentions for moving to the feds was the right intentions but the federal task force was not what they made it all out to be. The insult of offering her to babysit a CI's wife was like whole up!! She probably can kick your butt and should for insulting her like that. Plus lying to a CI about the award money that has a child and nearly was killed for helping was just wrong. The feds are d***s!!! And Erin is too passionate about the people she helps. Especially troubled women. I say this to say it was more than for Linstead to explore their feelings. It was to show Erin that Voight's way may not always be right, but the unit is family and his motives and tactics works best and means so much more.
I'm betting the opposite. I don't think she'll keep Jay at arm's length. She looks smitten by Jay and like she's really into what their future holds. I'm thinking the writers is going to give their relationship a try. It's going to be how they're going to keep their relationship a secret amongst so many detectives.
Disco Bob seems he 's jealous of Voight and Voight's accomplishments. He didn't go over so well with me either.
great episode again. Loved the story and also the moments between Erin and Jay. Love these 2. I liked their partnership and I think I like even more their relationship. Can't wait to see their working together again and how they will deal with the new status. And yes, I love that Erin realized the new job isn't for her. I mean that was an amazing offer, but she cares too much and the fact that she saw how things are in other teams only made hear realize what an amazing team she has. She took this job because she wanted to make a difference and that is the same reason she gets back to Intelligence. She will waste her talents in the task force and she is so smart to realize it sooner than later. And her and Jay getting closer was her way of being in touch with her old team. After all they have a close relationship and it isn't like they just had a one night stand. These 2 people know each other, trust each other, saved each other's lives, worked together for so long. So I think it will be interesting to see their home relationship in the future. Amazing show!
Does anyone think there is more to the ruzek's dad and voight story. Disco bob seem jealous that voight was able to work on his career were he choose to see his son and he does not like the fact ruzek working with voight. I might be completely wrong but I think voight might be ruzek biological father. I could be totally wrong but something not right there a plot there for sure. Only time will tell.
If you read any Chicago Fire topics, most of the fans are completely over Dawson and Casey. The writers completely ruined this relationship by constant pettiness and nagging. I hope that Chicago PD sees this and avoids the templates as it would be a shame to see it repeated twice.
For the record, the reason I didn't like the episode was that Lindsey and Halstead had too little screen time, together or separately. Giving them separate story lines or breaking them up as partners mean less time for each character, because their screen time is separated. Somehow I don't think the task force thing was lame, it was necessary in a way that I can't explain, not just to break the barrier of the two becoming romantically involved. It showed more of Jesse Lee Soffer's range of an actor, showing new emotions for the character. The whole display of happiness (while you can tell it devastates him) over Lindsey's task for doing that huge assignment, I think it was good to see. These two episodes we saw gave a glimpse of Halsteads unwavering support for Lindsey, all while whats going on is killing him.
I don't think the task force plot was lame either. Lindsey was basically lied to in order to get her to join the task force, I can't figure out why she was recruited if that's who they were going to treat her. Halstead gets to show his feelings toward her to her, and Lindsey gets to let her guard down about her feelings for him with him. The task force itself was horrible, Lindsey was "allowed" to make one decision, there's no way she should have stayed with it, especially as a wife babysitter, insulting. She wasn't there to run anything, the feds were shown in a very bad light, not that it's completely false. Granted, something had to give for "Linstead" to even attempt to be together, these episodes showed Halsteads true feelings for Lindsey to her that he couldn't show before now.
I'm a fan of Dawson & Casey and really shipped them. But I have to agree with you about the relationship being ruined at this point. I do want them to get back together and a bit more excitement. I truly trulyl hope Chicago PD does not go the same route with Linstead. I strongly doubt they would. I'm thinking the fan base for Linstead is so vocal & wanting much more for them than Casey/Dawson. The writers seem to know what the fans want & they've been planning for this relationship for so long, there's no way they'll allow it to cool down...
Ive always wanting to see that in a cop show. How 2 partners would maintain a home life as well as their partnership. We get a glimpse of it with Ruzek and Burgess but it's not like a lot of it. Plus they work in separate units. I'm excited about Linstead future
I think there's jealousy there. Disco Bob is jealous of Voight and his career. What I took away from that story is Voight worked in the gang unit undercover & Disco Bob spread the whole dirty cop thing about Voight. Most cops accuse gang unit undercover detectives as bad cops.
If there's something more to it, I would be shocked and very interested in the storyline
That makes perfect sense!! Thanks for sharing & shining a new light. I too thought Halstead was fighting back that feeling of devastation to hearing she'll be gone for 6 months or more. He may loose his girl...
But romance aside, Dawson and Casey were great friends, so in theory, they should have made a great couple even with the work situation. Their relationship was ruined because the writer chose to ruin it (they seem to be running out of good material). No matter how great Sophia and Jesse are, I think their work circumstances are far more stressful, so in theory, their relationship should be more precarious. Ultimately, of course, its up to the writers, and sadly, if the show lasts long enough, there probably will be relationship drama.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I think I've had hangovers that lasted longer than Erin's job at the DEA. What was the point of this plot exactly?

ReplyDeleteHopefully, Erin and Jay have at least a secret relationship, now that she is back. Their flirting was always the best.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree, If they wanted Erin and Jay to spend the night, the writers could have come up with something else. Besides I think Erin should have given it a bit more time, new jobs are never easy and Voight would always taken her back even after 3 month.
ReplyDeleteThey will be. Both Sophia and Jesse confirmed it during TCA's. Here are two articles -

There was no point and as t was just a device to give us a one night stand with Linstead.
ReplyDeleteThey could have easily done that without the task force. It just cheapened the relationship overall knowing that it was just a quick plot device.
Thanks so much - the articles sound very promising,

ReplyDeleteYou are right, in the TVguide spoilers, Sophia Bush talks about how they are going to have a secret relationship :))
ReplyDeleteErin was an independent woman. Now she's a loser who comes back to "daddy" after the first difficulty.
