  1. I loved it. I've missed all the characters and the new characters introduced seem welcome too - let the mayhem and backstabbing begin.

  2. Lovely start, lots of new things to ponder. Who was the woman Captain Low thought a prize worthy enough to butcher a surrendered crew for? And you have to admire the big shining brass balls on Flint, taking the Man O'War by sneak attack and plotting for a return from his fall from grace and another shot at Urca de Lima's massive load of gold.

Took me awhile to recognize the London scenes as flashbacks with the younger Flint (or James McGraw)

  3. Solid premiere. Very entertaining and exciting story line with Finch, Silver and the whole Urca business. Looking forward to see how Finch seizes control of the ship and crew & gets the gold. Should make for a very enjoyable story line.

I concur with @Jon - who is this mysterious woman who was worth killing a surrendered crew? This Low character looks quite dangerous and I am worried about what he may do to Eleanor. For the most part, all the pirates and their captains respect her and heed her diktats. This Low character threatens all the work Eleanor has done that earned her the respect of the pirates & the right to run the island.

Vane, as always, continues to be a sort sighted a-hole. When will he learn to follow Eleanor's advice and take responsibility for the things he has to do, now that the fort is in his control. Also, it was interesting to see that he has some jealousy towards Finch since Eleanor has regard/respect/admiration for Finch. I feel like there is a very slow burn between Finch and Eleanor - let's see if it's explored in the future.

Max - she's playing a very dangerous game. Undercutting Eleanor's lead on a ship and selling it to Ned Low was a low blow against Eleanor and the very way the island works.

  4. The woman is Abgail Ashe, daughter of a colony of Carolina nobleman. Low will probably try to leverage her to her father for something BIG

  5. Ooh!! thanks for this tidbit. Now, this makes it very interesting. Possible plot interesting lines - Eleanor et al free the girl from Low. Maybe Flint also joins in. Or this could be a chance for Vane to do something useful for a change.

Aha!! Searched around for a bit and found this:

    A very interesting excerpt:

Another new character that the producers will introduce in "Black Sails"Season 2 is Abigail Ash. Jonathan E. Steinberg, the co-creator of the show, said that the character will first be seen as a hostage but will later emerge as the key to civilising Nassau. Her father is the Governor of the Carolina colony and this makes her a bargaining chip for her captors. Captain Flint is seen proposing that the girl be sent back to her father to win his support.

  6. Aaah, K.
If her father is Rupert Penry-Jones's character then the flashbacks make a great deal of sense and connect nicely to the current story.

Maybe they said RP-J's character name in the premiere but I missed it if so.

  7. RP-S's character is Thomas Hamilton who was the husband of Mrs. Barlow. Was it made clear that Mrs. Barlow had children? I don't think so.

IMO, this Governor of Carolina is a different character and his name could end with Ashe, what with his daughter being Abigail Ashe.

But, if it's indeed RP-S's character as the Governor of Carolina, then it again throws up some interesting questions - did Thomas Hamilton change his name and move to Carolina? Did he change his name because he wanted to escape the shame of his wife cheating on him? Did he marry again? If so, that would make Abigail a young teenager.

Of course all this would be moot if the Governor is a different person.

  8. I was still watching the episode for the first time when I commented before, but I just finished watching and saw that. XD

Most likely the connection is just through "Mrs Hamilton" then, but I like the idea that Lord Hamilton still lives.

Maybe Flint never killed him the first time around?. A scheme for him to make a new life in the colonies or perhaps to escape shame like you mentioned... Maybe Flint assumed he was dead, but he managed to live and make it to the colonies? Perhaps there is no other connection at all XD

  9. Glad to see this show back again. Great episode I didn't catch the new captain's name but he seems like someone as ruthless as Vane, but with less logic.

As some of these story elements unfold, and with the knowledge that some of these characters are part of Treasure Island, I find myself thinking very spoilery things about John Silver, Billy and even Flint. You know kind of where it's all headed, but the "how" is fascinating.

I don't know how others feel about Max. She causes a bunch of problems for pretty much everybody, especially Elanor, and takes the full brunt of the fallout for it when her self-serving schemes backfire. All that being said, when I stop to think about it, she's no different from other characters in the show in that way,

I find that she's an irritant. Interesting, but she annoys me for some reason. I guess I see in her the significant other who would destroy your life and then tell you to be glad you still have her (think Lila from Dexter or that overly attached GF meme).
