Woah, that was awesome! I've never seen the movie (although I hear it's excellent) so I can't judge whether it did it justice but the show was a lot of fun.
The acting was pretty great! Especially our two main leads, Amanda Schull and Aaron Stanford. Syfy has a reputation of having really cool concept shows but the acting in them has always made me deter away from them so thankfully this wasn't the case. Their interactions with each other were definitely my favorite part of the pilot. Hopefully we'll see more of them together in the coming episodes. Also, I was very surprised we got a brief glimpse of Kirk Acevedo! Always nice to see a Fringe alum :) Looking forward to seeing him on the show and hopefully we'll see more of the year 2043.
The scene where the watch from 2043 and the watch from 2015 come into contact with each other and emit a massive explosion in the facility that killed Goines/Frost and his men was so cool. The special effects are really cool on this show so far.
The pilot set up a very intriguing storyline for the season. Can't wait to see the Army of the 12 Monkeys be explored further down the line. Looks like Cole and Cassandra will have to get to Goines/Frost's daughter, Jennifer, first.
My only complaint is that there wasnot enough Kirk Acevedo! Other than that, a well paced pilot and a great setup for the first season. Time travel is tricky to do, can cause a chaotic naarative and I thought the writers handled it superbly
Really enjoyable, the cast were very good the story was intriguing the whole way through. Even though it would be nice to have 2 time travel shows a year (Continuum & 12 Monkeys), if this gets renewed it will be a nice replacement for Continuum :)
I thought it was pretty good. And I liked the way they set it all up for the season. Very good casting, everyone has good chemistry. Looking forward to the next ep.
amazing pilot and the second one was great too, loving Cole and Cassandra's chemistry and i loved seeing Kirk Acevedo after Fringe and bald LOL, Cole being immune to time and paradoxes is awesome
very good start for the seasons and like some of the others have mentioned really nice chemistry between the two leads. Good set up for things to come...
I liked it pretty much!!, the story seems way more complex that the one from the movie, and that good for a series, I'm looking forward to seeing what's coming.
Voted Great. Loved the two-watch effect scene and I love how all the characters don't seem to have all the answers. I'm still wondering if LG was right about Cole-paradox with 1989, or if it's still possible that Cole(s) have done this several times?
It definitely has good potential to expand on the film version and has likable characters/cast. I wish it the best. I'm happy we have some sci-fi back in SYFY.
I watched the first two episodes back-to-back last night (thanks Syfy for the screener) and really liked it. Going to watch more episodes over the weekend.
This is a very good start to a show that I've been looking forward to. The look of the show, and the acting are the strong points right now. The story is unfolding at a pace that allows both newbies as well as viewers familiar with the movie to keep up and enjoy.
But I only gave it a Great, not Awesome, mainly because of a few directing flaws. For example, during Cole's first visit, and he's hiding with Cassie in the alley, he appears to tie her up--but suddenly she's free. Also, the staging of Cole & Cassie at the party looking for Leland is awkward at best. Why would Cassie count on somehow being seen by Aaron--and him getting them in? Also, Cole & Cassie didn't seem to have prepared an answer to the obvious "how do you two know each other" question from Aaron. Just poor writing.
Still there's enough here to make me set my dvr, so I can watch each episode multiple times. And, it doesn't hurt that the cast is filled with alums from the old CW "Nikita" show: Aaron Sanford, Noah Bean--and even Amanda Schull did a terrific guest star episode on Nikita.
I know he exists "outside of time", which is why he could either keep moving at a normal evolutionary rate or a faster evolutionary rate during the two-watches scene, but the fact that he has not yet met LG in 1989 and LG remembers him is a paradox, because 1989 "should" always come before 2015, even though Cole may go back to that time later---but it suggests that there is "predetermination" or "Fate" for Cole (something the episode also touched on) and/or the future and therefor there is a paradox for Cole as this is a kind of limitation, unless we have multiple timelines/universes and/or multiple Coles...
Even it appears the scientists picked Cole, because they heard a phone message from the past that he was involved--so they assume they are suppose to use him....But if you want to avoid paradoxes, then one should not be able to exist in the past the way Cole does before Cole is ever sent there...IMO is suggests that he or another version of himself may have done it before...
I'm a fan of time-travel based genre, and I have to say that I've found it quite good so far in the screener episodes I've seen. I was a bit concerned with it being a Syfy show, but I've been pretty impressed with it :)
Cole & Cassie didn't seem to have prepared an answer to the obvious "how do you two know each other" question from Aaron. Just poor writing."
Although unrealistic, I don't think it was poor writing, because of the comedic aspect of getting Cole to say, 'She bought me a cheeseburger'...
This is also paying homage to the film version...The future presented in the film version is actually bleaker than this version and where all people live "underground". Cole is a criminal who can abolish his sentence if he does what the scientist say by going back in time, gathering info, and stopping the pandemic--Cole in that version is mentally SO FAR REMOVED from contemporary culture, that when he goes back in time and experiences a better life, he acts very much like a child who has never seen the world outside of his room!!---In this version our Cole seems more sophisticated or knowledgeable, but the fun cheeseburger line, def alludes to scenes in the film.
Excellent premiere! The suspense was very similar to the film as well as having the "dire" undertone. One thing the series appears to have improved on is the "science - fact/real" content. In the film there was no explanation about how "time - travel" worked or "paradox theory" because Bruce Willis' character was more like a "test subject" (like those monkeys used in the NASA/Apollo program) with a mission complete; stop the "Army of the 12 Monkeys" and save the world from this deadly plague. In this premiere we hear about a possible "paradox" and get the "two watches scene" (Einstein's "same matter can not occupy same space" theory). Cole appears to be more apart of the operation just by his debriefing at the end of the episode. In the film Bruce Willis' debriefings were more like a therapy sessions and kind of...............weird. Excellent start to this new "science - fiction" series, SyFy! 4 THE HUNT FOR THE 12 MONKEYS, I am Nobody!!!
Which explains why second episode will be available online next friday if i know of this i would of just watched Grimm and Constantine then leave Helix and 2 episodes of 12 monkey tomorrow lol
Just finished watching the first 2 episodes and wow LOVED THEM. I absolutely love the movie so I was super excited for the show. Glad to see it didn't disappoint.
To early to say yet, but after the first two episodes of 12 Monkeys is in the "ballpark" of Continuum season 1 & 2 (the best seasons) IMO. As good as the premiere was the second episode is even better (look out for Jennifer Goines and a special cameo by...........Satan)! Nobody 4 LATER!!!
Don't think I've loved the first episode of a show this much since The Blacklist!
Was a bit disappointed Ivanek bought it so soon (he's such a brilliant actor IMO) but we may see him in early time periods. Aaron & Amanda were both absolutely awesome - and pretty decent chemistry for a first episode, especially with Aaron's character being a little out of his element. The only downside to the cast being Noah Bean who I don't like so I hope his role continues to be small.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Really enjoyed it, I love the chemistry between Cole and Cassandra. Can't wait until next week!

Yes,, the "Prince of Darkness" will pay a visit to those less deserving of their "Better" Twin. It is called B-Day repercussions.:)))

WTPA4E
What is the connection between Cassandra ( Amanda Schull ) Railly in the series and Kathryn ( Madeleine Stowe ) Railly in the movie ?
ReplyDeleteCole & Cassie didn't seem to have prepared an answer to the obvious "how do you two know each other" question from Aaron. Just poor writing."
ReplyDeleteActually I thought that this was intentional. Like Cole and Cassie had everything planned out but the one question that was bound to be asked by them.
I voted great as well! Just finished watching and i think this is the first pilot of the 2014/2015 season that i really enjoyed.I can't believe it!
ReplyDeleteOn Demand has the first 2 episodes..
ReplyDeleteThey're playing the same role, so they have to be the same person, they just changed her first name for some reason??
ReplyDeleteIts AMAZING.......end point!
ReplyDeleteNot sure who did the direction for the first two epi's...seriously....movie quality.
IMO...epic
