Looking - Looking Top to Bottom - Review: "The Inner Boyfriend"
26 Jan 2015
Looking Reviews ROLooking continued its second season last night with “Looking Top to Bottom”. It was such a great episode, I loved every parts of it. Looking’ strength always has been, since the pilot, in its ability to deal with real problems happening to real characters in an interesting and exciting way. It could easily be a boring show, but thanks to an amazing cast and excellent writing and directing, it’s always so true, so clever and also funny about life.
One of the great things about “Looking Top to Bottom” was watching every characters. Usually, Looking isn’t that rich in quantity (but always in quality), and I don’t mind it. Last year episode about Patrick and Richie was fabulous. I’m glad now Looking can have such an episode, where all the characters appeared and they all got things to d. How great it was to watch Patrick, Agustin, Dom, Doris, Kevin, Richie and Eddie all together !
As usual, Patrick got the biggest part of the episode. His relationship with Kevin greatly improved. Kevin is still with Jon, but he had accepted to spend his time with Patrick, according to his plan. First, he asked Pat, quite abruptly, to cancel what he had planned to be with him. So arrogant. I really hated him when he said that. I liked that Patrick was strong enough to tell him no very quick. What kind of a relationship would it be if Pat would drop everything just for Kevin.
Finally, Kevin accepted to tag along with Pat, at Dom’s rugby game. It was a surprising move from Kevin, even if he was coming as a friend, he knew Dom and Agustin (and Doris….and soon afterwards Eddie) knew about their affair. Kevin was trying to be more real in his relationship to Pat. Of course, as Kevin was coming to spend at night at Patrick’s, it made Pat very stressed about it. So cute when he freaked out about what they would do. He wanted to clean everything, and not only his apartment. I loved the anal douche scene at the pharmacy and at his home so much. Oh, I laughed out loud. It was so real and so true, I kinda picture myself in Jonathan Groff’s position. So not sexy…
One of the best scene of the episode was at the pub. Kevin finally opened up about his past and told Patrick who he used to be. I was quite surprised to find out Kevin was an angry teenager, because his mother had left him with his dad. It was touching, and it made me care a bit more for him. And now, I can understand why he’s reluctant to leave Jon. His visa is expiring in two years, marrying an American is possibility to stay in the US. Loved Patrick’s face when he thought Kevin wanted to get married with him. He was just ready to meet Pat’s friends.
And the rugby scene with everyone was hilarious. Doris and Eddie were so good together, I’m really looking forward more hilarious scenes between them. Eddie totally cracked me up when he asked Kevin if he had a boyfriend. The one thing not to talk about was out. Kevin and Pat were cute at the game. I totally get Patrick it was so hot to hear Kevin talking and explaining rugby with his sexy British accent.
And finally, Kevin spent his night at Patrick’s, making fun of his self help books (going on a date with your inner boyfriend... weird) and cuddling in front of the TV. It was cute to watch them being a normal couple, spending a normal night at home. The sex scene between Jonathan Groff and Russell Tovey was so hot. It must have been so weird to film it. It was very explicit and felt so real, with the sweat, the moans and the kissings. It turned out preparing himself wasn’t of any use for Patrick, as Kevin decided to change their sexual roles for once. It was very sexy and I was really happy for them, they were exploring their relationship. And it was going stronger and then… Kevin, thinking Pat was already asleep, got up and called up Jon. Patrick wasn’t awake, but just closed his eyes. What else could he do. It did break my heart a little. They had such a wonderful day together, but in the end, reality kinda hit Patrick. Kevin has still his boyfriend at his home.
After last week incident, where drugged Agustin was brought back home by adorable Richie, Agustin came to apologize to Richie at his work. I’m so thrilled Agustin finally started to act like a decent human being, it was about time. Or at least, he’s trying to be a better person. And I don’t think he was being nice to Richie to get closer to him. I think he was trying to keep Richie in Patrick’s life so when those two could have a new chance in the future. It’s actually nice from Agustin, for once he’s not acting selfishly. The whole scene with Richie and Agustin was perfect, loved the mirrors game.
Richie wasn't the only having a good influence on Agustin, so was Eddie. I really like their relationship, Eddie is always a bit distant, yet it’s clear he cares for Agustin. I’m really looking forward watching them getting closer. I loved how Agustin invited himself at Eddie’s for the night and Eddie’s reaction. Actually, the whole toilet scene was fabulous.
Dom and Doris had more screen time this week than in the past episodes and nothing could have make me happier. I loved their scene in the morning, both couples in their rooms, 40 but living like college roommates. So glad about Doris having a boyfriend, they were cute, hot and funny together. Dom and Lynn were cute too in Dom's bed. When Doris came in, naked under her sheet, and got in the bed with them I was laughing so hard. That woman has no boundaries. “He’s very assy” cracked me up too. She’s the worst and the best in the same time.
The breakfast scene all together was really great too… Until they brought Dom’s job in the conversation. Dom had an interview, he thought it was to get money for his new project but instead he got a job offer as a manager for a new restaurant. Lynn was really excited about it, Doris and Dom weren’t. And after the rugby game, while Dom was taking a shower, surronded by naked rubgy players (Heaven…), he actually learnt Lynn was the one who set him up for the manager job interview, without telling him. Ouch. I really like Dom and Lynn together, I’m a bit worried about them. Dom can make rush decisions sometimes. It wasn't cool from Lynn not tell Dom about the interview. They clearly disagree on how to manage Dom’s career, and at the end, it’s Dom’s choice. Lynn can be a little too controlling. They both need to work on their issues I guess.

Loved the episode. Ugh, Kevin was growing on me until he called Jon...UGH!
ReplyDeleteJonathan Groff is too freaking sexy. Sheesh.
I loved everything about this episode. "But I'm as fresh as a mountain stream..." Pat sounded disillusioned -- my favourite line.
