TVLine has learned exclusively that NBC’s acclaimed thriller is casting for the recurring role of Will’s wife Molly, a strong, vibrant thirtysomething who is not only unperturbed by her husband’s dark and occasionally tortured past — but has worked to help him overcome it.
Molly, who also happens to have a 12-year-old son named Walter, “understands that Will is a good man, and her love has allowed him to rebuild himself. But when Will is asked to return to the FBI, she also urges him to try and save lives, knowing what risks this entails.”
Molly — a role that is slated to span four episodes — won’t be introduced ’til Episode 8… an installment that will leap enough years into the future to allow for the transformation in Will’s personal life.

So the time jump happens in episode 8?
ReplyDeleteI NEED HANNIBAL NOW!
ReplyDeletethis could be interesting..cant wait for this to come back..looking forward to seeing the new direction its about to take
ReplyDeleteYes but I heard there will also be a time jump in the beginning of Season 3. About a year.
ReplyDeleteYah, I heard about that too, which makes sense with S2's finale. This is brand new to me that we may be jumping forward 12-13 years in the 8th episode.
ReplyDeleteThis does not bode well for Alana. :(
ReplyDeleteI don't think it'll be that big of a jump. Molly already had her son before seeing Will.
ReplyDeleteGee, I'm so glad the show is using 2 time jumps in one season to avoid pesky character development on screen. Especially with Molly and Will/Molly and once upon a time Bryan talked about wanting to explore that relationship; in 4 episodes he's not expanding on RD at all- they're together and if they're doing the ending of RD in this one, we'll hardly know her before that happens and that's that. I was hoping with this being a show, that they'd be able to finally give some breathing room to Will/Molly so we see it happen and not just land straight into the two together. I also wanted more Molly, since I'm a fan, but I doubt that'll happen.
ReplyDeleteThis show has always been so careful with relationships and character development. And now, out of the blue, they're just gonna drop her off right there, with no build up. I really hope this isn't a decision made out of fear from cancellation.
ReplyDeleteThis will be a weird season...
Way to bury the time jump...I was super confused a bit there.
ReplyDeleteI liked Alana. :-(
Is there a premiere date set yet?
ReplyDeleteNo. In fact, DeLaurentiis Co. said the lack of an airdate is why they won't be at the NBC TCA panel tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteBack in the fall, Bryan had speculated that S3 might premiere in late April/early May, but that's the last we've heard.
Good. Glad they're sticking to that part of RD. I don't have to worry so much about a potential Clarice love triangle now!
ReplyDeleteYa, I'm hoping Red Dragon's ending spills into the beginning of season 4, should we be so lucky to get season 4.
ReplyDeleteThe good news is that relationship may continue to be explored later since Bryan Fuller is keeping Will Graham along for the long haul, unlike the source material.
Well she could still be around or have survived and/or bring her back later if they wanted, but it's not like Molly and Walter do not exist in Red Dragon. I'm also kind of hoping that we see more into Hannibal's extrapolations via his memory palace as the series progresses and thus many characters, especially dead characters could constantly be revisited and add an additional haunting quality to the series...
ReplyDeleteJust like Justin said above, Walter is not Will's biological son and actually ironically Molly's last name is "Foster", so it's a nice theme of Will continuing to collect strays. Most likely the second time jump into the beginning of Red Dragon-era won't be more than a year or two. (I forget the amount of time of time the film and novel give, but I'm sure it will similar) And I'm assuming this is around episode 7 or 8.
ReplyDeleteI feel like we'll get a S4, the show is dirt cheap for NBC, they're just paying for licensing and it's been renewed so far with low ratings, so as long as Gaumont are happy with it, we'll keep getting the show.
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, I definitely hope the ending of Red Dragon spills into S4, otherwise doing the whole arc in 6 episodes sounds rushed as hell. I don't mind them ending S3 on a certain scene with Freddie, but to do the whole thing in 6 episodes... I felt the Margot-Mason arc was too rushed in 5 episodes, I'm sure this'll be the same.
I'm worried Molly just won't get the screentime or development that she deserves and if we can't see Will and Molly in a relationship and care about them as a couple and about her as a character, then the ending for Red Dragon won't carry the same punch and people will just shrug and move on from it (that part of the ending, not the facial, I'm sure that'll have a lasting impression if it happens).
I'd be perfectly happy if Molly is revisited post Red Dragon and the two reconcile, but I'm a pessimist and I can't believe Will would have a happy ending, to be honest.
Well I know we will see some Hannibal film/novel plot threads in the first half of season 3 (along with dashes/allusions of Hannibal Rising), so we should also continue to explore the Mason relationship, as I thought I read he will also be man-hunting him.(I am still not over the recasting of Michael Pitt)
ReplyDeleteI keep hoping, because Mason brought up Mischa first to Hannibal, that Hannibal's back story (Hannibal Rising) in this version will allow a deeper connection between himself/his family with the Vergers, but only time will tell!
...I just thought it was an interesting detail that the writers made a point for Mason to be the first to reveal to the audience to Mischa and for him of all people to be the one to confront Hannibal on the subject, suggesting he knows something about Hannibal or his past...
can't wait!
ReplyDeleteNo, I get who Molly is as I read the books and Willy is Molly's son, but just the way it was said about HIS son, made me think otherwise that Walter is actually Will's biological son.
ReplyDeleteOh sorry.! I could see what you mean. I just assumed that it was his son by marriage, being true to what Harris wrote.
ReplyDeleteYah. It was just the way it's describe. You could be right in that Walter is Molly's son and only becomes Will's son by marriage, but, yah....just the way it was written had me a bit confused, lol.
