Earlier this month, Fox entertainment chairmen Gary Newman and Dana Walden told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour that they were hoping to revive The X-Files and 24. Now, for the first time, the network is also confirming that it's kicking another popular franchise to bring to primetime: X-Men.
Fox entertainment chairman Gary Newman confirms to TV Insider that they are developing an X-Men TV Series. "It's in negotiations," Newman confirms. "We're cautiously optimistic, we had a good meeting with them. That will not be on a fast track creatively. This is just the deal, now we have to find the creative."

Interesting to see what it would be, who will be casted and what story would be told.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really ambitious move. I hope for it to get a good treatment. I assume that it will future "B-list" characters instead of the original rooster!
ReplyDelete"... now we have to find the creative."
ReplyDeleteFox doing things in the right order, as usual...
So, they're making plans for doing a show and they don't know what about exactly yet? Smart move, Fox.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, but this is still in very early development.
ReplyDeleteI love this.
ReplyDeleteFox is quickly becoming one of my favorite networks again. I hope they keep up this momentum!
So they're taking everything starting with letter X? Maybe Xena: Warrior Princess will be next.
ReplyDeleteThis makes me nervous.... Movies are fantastic don't mess it up with a TV show a la Avengers
ReplyDeleteXenomorph: The Series
ReplyDeleteGood!!
ReplyDeleteHow?
ReplyDeletewell then, here’s my pitch:
Series style:
22 episodes, all presented in 3-4 episode long arcs focusing on one enemy each. Meaning 22 episodes divided up into 6 storylines. The show would follow the core X team consisting of Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Iceman, Rogue, Collosus and Warpath. Bigger stars could be tied down for shorter 4 episode arcs paired up as a PR deal for their upcoming X-Movies.
Guided by Professor X they take on enemies like Sabretooth (played in a 4 episode arc by Liev Schreiber and also bringing in Hugh Jackman for one episode as part of his PR deal for the next Wolverine flick), Magneto (Ian McKellan surely would be down to do this), Mr. Sinister, Shadow King and others.
The 4 episode arc system could save writing time. Also shooting time for the likes of McKellan and Stewart could be reduced be reducing the characters to a few locations and preshooting their scenes
Regular Cast:
– James Marsden
– Famke Janssen
– Anna Paquin
– Shawn Ashmore
– Daniel Cudmore
– Rebecca Romijn
– January Jones
– Adan Canto
– and Patrick Stewart
(all actors that wouldn’t shy away from a TV stint and have done regular roles on television in the past, also it’s worth noting that this tying in with the X-franchise on the bigscreen would give actors some solid security)
Okay, interesting. I'm going to assume we won't see any of the characters casted for X-men Apocalypse.
ReplyDeleteThe New Mutants would work well in TV format I think. You could combine high school drama with superhero action.
As they've recently announced new actors for Storm, Cyclops and Jean Grey I doubt they would want to retain any of the "old guard".
ReplyDeleteThe theme from the 90s animated series is playing in my head!
ReplyDeleteWith Shawn Ashmore on the Following, maybe they could ask his twin brother Aaron:)
ReplyDeleteWell, using the older cast for TV and the younger for the movies could appease the fanbases.
ReplyDeleteThe Following will likely end with season 3, just look at that shows numbers
ReplyDeleteKeep in mind that Kevin Reilly only left recently so a lot of decisions we hear about now are remnants of an older regime. We owe Sleepy Hollow, 24: LAD and having mercy with Following to that guy
ReplyDeleteSame here! XD
ReplyDeleteMost defintely. All of Fox's current hits can be attributed to Kevin Reilly.
ReplyDeletefan freaking tastic
ReplyDeleteahhhhh you beat me to it...
ReplyDeleteFox is so stupid! :-( Why can't Fox instead revive shows that they canceled too soon? Like Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles for example. If the actors say yes. I still want an X-Men TV-show though, but The X-Files and 24 had enough seasons.
ReplyDeleteWonder what it will be about after seeing Gotham I can only imagine
ReplyDeleteI think could be good, but I'm definitely not interested in X-Men becomes a tv series.
ReplyDeleteThis will never gonna happen, sorry dude.
ReplyDeleteWhat if they planning to make X-force bc there were rumors that a movie based on that was suppose to be made but nothing yet.
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting FOX (and yes I've never, ever imagined X-Men on any other network) to do this ever since X2 came out. But I guess until now such an endeavor would be too expensive. They could use the series to explore lesser characters and different storylines that aren't going on in the movies, there have been so many alternate universe stories as well. The options are endless, I just hope they pick the right things to include.
ReplyDeleteSo Gotham does a 2.2 in last week and FOX's response is let's add another comic book show to the lineup. How about focusing on Gotham and making sure it doesn't slide until 2.0 first.
ReplyDeleteOh God! That sounds amazing!
ReplyDeleteYeessss. I never thought this would happen. I thought the MCU would make all marvel movies. But I don't think Marvel shows can beat all the DC shows including the new ones coming.
ReplyDeleteWell, they turned Year One into a terrible police procedural so I imagine X-Men as a high school drama is right up their alley.
ReplyDeleteAnyone remember Generation X? It was a live action TV movie on Fox. It featured Emma Frost, Banshee , and Jubilee. Also X-Men I never heard of, Mondo, Skin, and Buff.
ReplyDeletewhat i really want is a series based on X-Factor(Peter David version)
ReplyDeleteI'm in the minority here because I do not care for any of the X-Men movies. Maybe this will be better.
ReplyDeleteSounds intriguing but knowing FOX these days, they will most likely screw it up!
ReplyDeleteYou might as well have typed that whole thing in dollar signs. Too expensive for almost anyone.
ReplyDeleteUmm, what?
ReplyDeleteHhhhmmm... dunno how I feel about this yet. Once there's more information and they decide what they'll be doing I'll be in a better place to judge.
