After five seasons, the NBCUniversal-owned cable network has opted to cancel the spy drama starring Piper Perabo and Christopher Gorham, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
I figured this was coming so at least it didn't end in a cliffhanger (and I rapidly lost interest last season anyway and wasn't planning on returning if it had been renewed).
My mom was still watching the show and I ended up watching a few minutes on Sunday mornings. Will be interesting to read the comments on this one, because I agree that the show did not end on a cliffhanger, though it did end with not knowing what happens next for Annie.
Bummer, as I was hoping that the show would at least get an abbreviated season to close the book, like White Collar and Burn Notice, but I liked the direction the show was taking and at least the show didn't end on a big cliffhanger... I always wondered if the show was really expensive to produce as their location budget seemed to be sizable as they always shot in exotic locales... farewell to another USA fave like White Collar and Burn Notice....
The season finale felt like a series finale but I'm still unhappy by this news. Covert Affairs was a damn good show, and I was glad they put Auggie and Annie back in the friend zone they belonged in. I was just hoping for more. At least a couple episodes to close the series out and answer any lingering questions. Oh well. At least it didn't end on a Revolution sized cliffhanger.
I think the expensive location shoots, inconsistent storytelling with the plots and characters, and decreasing ratings due to a disappointed audience was the three strikes USA needed to cancel CA. I'm disappointed but not surprised about this news.
There may have been a viewer erosion but it's still surprising simply because the ratings of so many of their other shows are doing just as poor or worse. This leads me to believe that Covert Affairs was axed for two primary reasons: 1) the show has lost all the buzz it had early on in the series and 2) money. USA can get equally crappy ratings out of a show that's not as expensive to produce.
I wish they had done more, maybe stop travelling or cut some actors, like Hill Harper and downgrade others. They could've set season six in the states and of course cut the episode order like white collar.
Actually they shot all around the globe, they truly went to some of the countries and places where the story was happening. I think season one and two were the only ones totally shot in Canada.
did not know that lol. But he is right international market is usually good at giving shows a good place to film bc they are cheap compared to our country lol.
The news stories I read claim the show ended on an unresolved cliffhanger. really? Were these writers watching the same show? What cliffhanger? Annie was starting a new relationship with McQuaide and he wanted to know if she would consider marriage. I think they ended on a happy note. I don't need that spelled out for me. Joan got a big promotion and offered Annie a position. Again, I don't think we needed a definitive answer. Auggie quit the agency to travel with Tasha and then said goodbye to Annie. Arthur decided to run for the senate. Sure, there were some new story potentials, but there was nothing left lingering from the season 5 arc. Everything was pretty much wrapped up. At least this show got an ending.
Yep they said that usually only one or two of the main characters traveled, everyone else stayed in Canada and they hired a local crew to film the on location scenes to keep costs down. Not surprised that they cancelled the show the ratings were really poor this past season.
If they keep rehashing the whole Mike's secret storyline ad nauseum I might start to move on too...as much as I love my Harvey dose they really need to move the story along.
I am sad and happy at the same time, I am sad because we will never know if Annie and Auggie get back together, and I'm happy because in the worst case we escape the worst wedding of the century that of Annie and McQuaid
When Piper became a producer, Annie Walker got darker and stopped smiling. Not one character had a personality. No sense of humor. On top of non relatable characters, the linear storyline made it hard to follow.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteNooooo! So sad.. The show became so good the last three seasons
ReplyDeleteDamn. I'm shocked. I thought that USA would have at least given the show a few episodes to wrap stuff up after five seasons of storylines.
ReplyDeletereally shocked and sad, I really thought they'd renew it for one last season...really sad.
ReplyDeleteMy mom was still watching the show and I ended up watching a few minutes on Sunday mornings. Will be interesting to read the comments on this one, because I agree that the show did not end on a cliffhanger, though it did end with not knowing what happens next for Annie.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping they would get Annie and Auggie back together before the show ends.
ReplyDeletei gave up the second they broke Annie and Auggie up
ReplyDeletesame here, they built them up for 4 years and then that crap in season 5 happens, same on New Girl
ReplyDeleteNot surprised. A lot of viewers jumped ship last season because of the decisions they made.

ReplyDeleteI'm sad, but not surprised. I was hoping they would give it a shorter final season, though, like they did for White Collar.

ReplyDeleteSo the Cancel Bear got another carcass to gnaw upon.

ReplyDeleteGood thing I gave up after they so monumentally screwed up Auggie/Annie.
ReplyDeleteSeason 5 completely ruined the show, so it's understandable that the show was cancelled.
ReplyDeleteI wish they had done more, maybe stop travelling or cut some actors, like Hill Harper and downgrade others. They could've set season six in the states and of course cut the episode order like white collar.
ReplyDeleteCovert Affairs was filmed entirely in Canada it never filmed anywhere else. You be surprised as Canada can be any country for a backdrop lol.
ReplyDeleteSuits is the only veteran show left and i hope it doesn't end anytime soon lol.
ReplyDeleteActually they shot all around the globe, they truly went to some of the countries and places where the story was happening. I think season one and two were the only ones totally shot in Canada.
ReplyDeleteSeriously? where you read this?

ReplyDeleteThey shoot the show all over the world. Last season they dedicated a several week shoot in Hong Kong around September-October.
ReplyDeleteI stopped watching it after season 2.
ReplyDeletethen you missed the best seasons of the show
ReplyDeleteVery true. Seasons 3-5 were the best in my opinion. I am going to miss it-been watching since the Pilot aired.

ReplyDeleteWll .. I'm sad but i saw it coming ... though it was a good show ...!
ReplyDeleteSo USA now has only one show I am watching and they used to be my most watched cable network...sad.
ReplyDeleteI am sad and happy at the same time, I am sad because we will never know if Annie and Auggie get back together, and I'm happy because in the worst case we escape the worst wedding of the century that of Annie and McQuaid
ReplyDeleteA watchable show. At least Annie didn't f--k terrorists.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, you missed the most compelling storylines of the show.
ReplyDeleteIt sucks that after so many seasons they wouldn't even give them time to wrap it up.
ReplyDeletethanks for telling me it had no cliffhanger so I can start watching
