CBS has given a pilot order to Code Black, a medical drama from Intelligence creator Michael Seitzman. David Semel has come on to direct the pilot, from ABC Studios, where Seitzman is under an overall deal, and CBS TV Studios. Additionally, the network has picked up a multi-camera comedy from its sister studio written/executive produced by Tosh.0 co-creator/executive producer Mike Gibbons.
Based on Ryan McGarry’s feature documentary, Code Black had a put pilot commitment. The name of the show refers to a code name used in the emergency room of an urban hospital when the influx of patients is so great that the staff is too overwhelmed to treat them all and some might die. The drama series (as well as the documentary it was inspired by) are set in the busiest and most notorious ER in the nation – LA County Hospital – where the extraordinary staff confronts a broken system in order to protect their ideals and the patients who need them the most. “Code Black is literally a death-defying look at today’s world of medicine told from the boots-on-the-ground at LA County Hospital,” Seitzman told me at the time of the sale.
Written/executive produced by Mike Gibbons, The Half of It centers on a newly divorced dad who revels in the fact that he now gets to keep half his stuff, which is more than he ever had when he was married. Gibbons has extensive late-night experience and has been tapped as co-executive producer on CBS’ upcoming Late Late Show with James Corden.

So it seems medical dramas are making a comeback..meh.
ReplyDeleteCBS hasn't stopped trying to get a medical drama off the ground since Chicago Hope ended and I suspect they never will. Rarely will a pilot season ever go by where CBS doesn't pick up at least one medical show to pilot.

ReplyDeleteMichael Seitzman isn't a creator I have a lot of time for considering how he successfully managed to botch Intelligence so I'll pass on Code Black because it sounds like something that can be botched as well. And I never watch comedies so that's an easy decision there.

It's from a guy whose last show was cancelled after a handful of episodes? I'm in! XD
I was part of this small Twitter storm last year advocating Intelligence's renewal (Didn't have much hopes but still loved the show). Seitzman and I exchanged a few tweets with each other regarding the future and this is what he comes up with.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, Intelligence sounds like a better show than this without a doubt. Should of thought of this before Intelligence :) I still think it's a shame that it was cancelled when it wasn't really given a chance.
I didn't really like Intelligence, but I'm up to a fun medical drama. Night Shift wasn't really cutting it for me.
