Arrow - Season 3 - Latest from TV Line - Marc Guggenheim Interview

Jan 20, 2015

Thanks to arrowshieldfan for the heads up.

Here are answers to some burning Qs about what’s to come, as we mourn Oliver Queen….

HOW WILL ARROW LIVE ON WITH OLIVER DEAD?
“You will certainly see him in flashbacks,” Guggenheim says. “In fact, Episode 10 has, I think, some of the most intense flashback action we’ve ever had. We’ve got Oliver literally ziplining between buildings, as the camera follows him through a window, and there’s a huge shootout…. You’re still going to get plenty of Oliver. The how and the when and the why, that’s all a surprise.”

HOW DOES TEAM ARROW Left Behind REACT TO THE NEWS?
Professionally, Diggle will again don the Arrow costume as he and Roy/Arsenal fill the crime-fighting void. But personally, for Team Arrow, “There’s a lot of emotional examination that we have to do,” David Ramsey says of the aftermath. With his military acumen and her techno-smarts, original team members Diggle and Felicity “become essentially the leaders on Team Arrow,” Ramsey adds. “And you also see me have very wonderful, poignant scenes with Katie [Cassidy], which is great. We both love Oliver, so you see these people, because of their different attachments to Oliver, react in various ways.”

WILL OLIVER’S DEATH INSPIRE RAY TO (A.T.O.M.) SUIT UP?
Arrow Season 3 SpoilersRay “was already on that trajectory,” Guggenheim notes. And even though what happened to Oliver isn’t public knowledge, there is a connection. “The relationship between Oliver’s death and Ray’s journey really lies in Felicity,” says the EP. “Felicity is of the opinion that Oliver went off to have a duel to the death with the most dangerous man in the world… basically, a suicide mission. And here she finds, contemporaneous with Oliver’s death, Ray embarking on his own suicide mission. In [Episode] 9, she said, ‘Why does this keep happening to me?’ and Ray represents an opportunity for her to try to fix what she considers a mistake that Oliver made, to prevent him from also tempting fate. Whether or not she’s successful, that’s part of these upcoming episodes.”

  1. It seems like Oliver being 'dead' will be for a few or several episodes, as I remember the actor mentioning in another view being off work for several weeks.

  4. i hope when Thea finds out she swears vengeance on Merlyn and finally joins Team Arrow, they're going with this whole Oliver is "dead" thing LOL

  5. That's right Dig and Felicity are going to be the leaders. I won't accept any other scenario.
Yeah sure "we will only see Oliver in flashbacks", gotcha *rolls eyes*
I can't wait for Thea to find out.

  6. Me too! I watch a lot of shows and most of them were on hiatus and I was somehow ok with it; but waiting for Arrow to come back is killing me.

  7. Exactly! Arrow is the one that keeps me prowling the internet for any information I can find.

  9. I have been hating on Marc Guggenheim for sometime because it felt like he was into trolling fans and shippers and even give spark for ship wars. I am not at twitter. But for last last week I have been following him on tumblr and he is really funny, respectful and surprisingly very diplomatic. He made me excited for the coming episodes a lot.

I am excited about Thea knowing the truth. I hope it is either Team Arrow (hopefully Diggle) that gives out the info or she gets to know once Oliver comes back and he reveals himself to her. I want the latter to happen even if I have to see Thea being clueless for some more episodes. She could have some suspicion against Malcolm in the mean time. I love all the brother sister scenes.

Digg and Felicity leaders... awesome. They are both logical choice. They are both smart and have the most experience. Also I am more and more intrigued by Laurel and Felicity scenes. It could be lot of fun.

Why is this last week more difficult to pass by than the last 4 weeks. Come on time... move fast..

  10. You know what I'd like to see? I'd like to see MORE flashbacks with Oliver during those 5 months. If they're going to give us flashbacks, that's something I've been wanting. From Felicity, Diggle, and Roy's perspective.

Not going to read the whole article, I will only comment on this. As we've seen the comic preview yesterday I think Diggle jumping into the suit will be the best part. I will enjoy him and Roy diving into action. I will also love my Diglicity scenes, as I've always adored them and they put a smile on my face. B/c I won't be smiling about anything else Going on.

  11. I agree. I wasn't a fan of his trolling on Twitter (I don't use Twitter I only see his tweets on Tumblr when someone posts them) but his posts on Tumblr really made me like him A LOT. Like you said he is funny, sarcastic, respectful, really enjoys interacting with the fans and you can clearly tell that he was a lawyer; as you said he is very diplomatic. Sure he still trolls but I enjoy it on Tumblr lol You know I really like when he answers questions about the writing process for the show. It gives us an insight into the creative minds behind this amazing show we love.

I adore Oliver and Thea's relationship. He is the protective and loving older brother and she is kind and caring younger sister. It hasn't been the same this season and I really miss it.

One more day to go. It's gonna feel like 6541841 days!

  13. I don't know about you, but all the interviews made a really good job of answering all my concerns about hte episodes. So far, so good; and it made me more interested in the episodes because of things like:
    - It's a Team Arrow focused trilogy.
    - Digg puting on the Arrow suit.
    - Digg and Felicity becoming the leaders.
    - Laurel puting the suit but NOT being ready.
    - Roy, who has to stand up.
    - Felicity's arc with Palmer, who she will try to stop so he doesn't end like Oliver.
    - Brick, in the comics, is a crappy villain. Here Vinnie Jones made him awesome!
    - The Hong Kong Flashbacks will be more interesting and action packed.
    - Malcolm's involvement.
    - Thea finding out.

I was very skeptical at first... now i really want them.

  14. do you think he'll go through even more PTSD than when he came back from Lian Yu?

    ReplyDelete
  15. you haven't seen Brick yet how can you tell, aside from Vinnie Jones being awesome, Gaaaalllavant!!! LOL

  16. same thoughts on the brother-sister bond between Oliver and Thea

    ReplyDelete
  17. i think it's because time has slowed down because it's this week LOL

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yeah I love them a lot. Probably because I don't have a brother and I like to think that if I had we would be like them.

    ReplyDelete
  19. It's Oliver. He's always messed up someway. If he is, he'll most likely just try to suppress or put it aside.

  20. Remember the first interviews when they told that those three episodes were all about Laurel? Then some people told that they were going to skip it and the producers kind of took it back? If everything happens acording to this interview I'm gonna be relieved but right now I'm not so sure.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Exactly. It feels too good to be true so I don't believe everything they say.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I would like to see how the flashbacks are even going to work as in the segue. It's usually shown as Ollie's point of view, but this will certainly be different.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Because the Brick in the comics it's a piece of s**t, so anything is better than that Jajajaja All it took to convince me was him beating up his minion like a crazy person. And tbh, Vinnie is menacing if he wants to! Great actor!
