Help me out here, what is it about Thea's stance that makes it look like she's struggling to hold up the sword? Is it just me? Is it her elbow trembling? Is it the angle that she blocks Malcolm's blade because it is such a weak position she isn't catching any force there so it reads as forced to me? Is it the break in the wrist to support the weight? Because the minute I see it, I'm doing drop your arm it's only a 3 second scene. I can't completely put my finger on what it is and I'd like to not cringe when they switch out her (awesome) stunt double...
Well its trembling because she stopped a blow from Malcom who is stronger. I believe it's like the kickback of a gun (never had one in my hand, only swords). While it makes sense Willy is Not convincing me either. Maybe Stephen Amell is doing a much too good job so that we are spoiled and notice that an actor is not as invested as SA into the fight scenes. Katie Cassidy is convincing me although it happens a bit fast for the character Laurel.
I agree. Willa is unconvincing. Same with when she fought" Oliver in the 3x09 scene and jumped out the window, but I think the stunt choreography was just bad there in general as well. .
Okay Is Malcolm living with Thea now. Because that is the flat she is sharing with Oliver and she is not aware of his death i believe. So what if Oliver barged in on them.
Am I the only one who notices when we're seeing her stunt double just because of the hair, Im a litle disapointed at Thea's fight scenes because of that.
Whatever opinion we all have about Laurel I really believe her in the few action scenes she's had until now and also Katie's being training for months to get in shape. But Willa...I love her but Im not buying her as a bad ass at all.
With Katie Cassidy she have experience with that stuff in Supernatural,So with Willa it's a lack of experience it's need time she is still learning stuff so I am giving her benefit of the doubt .
It would be nice, but for now it still seems they prefer to keep going the 'She's just a stupid mere puppet for the all-awesome Malcolm" route. And I don't expect much change soon, seeing as apparently, for Felicity's goddamn's sake, planned scenes for Thea have been pushed back.
I still wonder how much of the "promises" they made about this season are actually coming true.
It's not exactly surprising, most of the attention should be focussed on John Barrowman and Malcolm anyway, so while she's still learning, they've more than once showed this season that they had an attitude as in: 'Who gives a damn?' Since Laurel, Ray, and for some weird reason I still don't understand, Felicity, have much higher priority to push in our faces.
You know, I'd like to add that I still think it's majorly weird and still fake in so many ways, that every time Thea talks to Malcolm, or even thinks about him, she has this super weird loving look in her eyes like she's utterly in love with him or something >.<
It could have to do with multiple things: 1. You could maybe be looking a little too closely and comparing it a little too much with Stephen's performance. 2. I do have to agree that it could still also be the clothing... 3. Have you considered that maybe it's THEIR fault for not getting their heads out of their asses, with continually having her fight with sword, instead of REALLY giving us the chance to see her with bow and arrow. 4. Or maybe she's just struggling with it because like I said, there's been a lot of moments this season where Thea just smiles and looks like she's weirdly totally in love with Malcolm or something >.<
I don't exactly get that either... I mean, or does it show that when she's around Malcolm, she doesn't give much of a crap about it? It's still weird after all that after the Arrow/Ollie saved her from Nyssa, first thing she did was thank Malcolm with that... Weird freaking smile on her face for "protecting" her.
For now all I know is that lately, and the coming episodes, specially Thea's storyline, is goign to be all over the place, which parts we're getting so see, and haven't been pushed back so we can have some weird useless Felicity and Laurel interaction.
Calm down darling and hope for the best that is the best we can do. I was so looking forward to Thea and Felicity interaction. I am very disappointed. I always wanted these two to meet. Well.... If the Thea story line goes down the drain we will both riot afterwards deal?? I hope someone clues in that girl on what is happening around her. Now Thea is in the exactly same situation she was in last season. Everything is happening around her and she has no idea. At least they made Malcolm really villainous. I hated when the show put him in grey category by making him a loving father. I am still side eyeing the new "Family is everything" Malcolm/Thea promo. What family?
How do you know Thea/Felicity scene was pushed away for Felicity's sake? I am confused I didn't read anything like that. As far as I remember Laurel/Felicity and Thea/Felicity scenes were both teased during the hiatus. Then they said Thea/Felicity scene is pushed back. How does Felicity benefit from one interaction over the other? We don't know what happened at the editing table. Maybe they decided some other Thea scenes they shot were more important than this interaction. Until we see the episodes we cannot know if Thea is neglected for the sake of other characters.
I'm trying, it's just hard, it's just one thing after another, specially since I got faith back recently during the hiatus, and then it's just one Malcolm thing after another again. Even SO many rumors about him being the one to save Oliver, but that would be the most lame writing choice this show has ever made. But yeah, definitely deal on that one.
That fcould have happened, maybe through Laurel, but yeah... I REALLY don't understand how Felicity and Laurel intereaction is SO much more important than Tha's storyline, I mean seriously, Laurel I can understand, but at this point, I'm really pissed about Felicity getting priority over her, while she's mostly just been really annoying a lot of the time this season.
The only thing at this stage that would slightly make sense, is Malcolm training Thea to take on Ra's instead, as Ra's dide almost counter everything from Oliver, but I still don't understand why she keeps falling for it so easily, or why they're doing it there, OR why only when she's brainwashed, is she using a bow and arrow?
Yeah sigh, exactly... THe only "family" they've been showing this season is Malcolm/Thea, in some weird way after all, and having him say that has only made people more convinced that Malcolm is going to save Oliver. I even read about people saying that Oliver should give Malcolm a big hug when he gets back, because after all, Oliver is Malcolm's family, I mean... WTH?
Besides, it should actually be Oliver showing Thea eventually what Malcolm made her do. And you're right, partially, since her situation now is 100 times worse than last season. She overreacted then, like about Oliver knowing about Malcolm, she never gave him the chance to say he just found out himself, she probably still thinks Oliver knew for years about that. But now, she's big part after big part, giving away every bit of control she has and leting herself become more and more of Malcolm's puppet. And the more they continue with that, with Thea's pure heart as they said last season (if that wasn't just a big tease or whatever) I still doubt her pure heart is going to be able to live with herself after killing Sara, specially not if they make her do even more crap for him.
I read it in an interview that made it pretty clear. Just like the interview about Slade obviously not having come to his senses and not having made any progress toward being an anti-hero instead of the replacing villain for Malcolm xD I'm sorry, but that's still hilarious in some way at least, that they keep those two switched around. Maybe Malcolm has turned out more villanous, a lot more, but just like the promo, they still have their moments of: 'Oh yeah, look at how an amazing person Malcolm is!' x'D
Anyway, that interview made it pretty clear, they literally said that Thea's scenes had just been pushed back, no clarification, only that instead we were going to get a lot more Felicity and Laurel, and some big explanation of Felicity's reaction because she never thought they were actually friends and yadayadayada.... And sure, we don't know exactly how that's going to turn out, but for me, with how super amazing they were saying how Felicity's scenes were, sound a lot like: 'Yeah, we were going to let Thea found out fairly quickly, but since this sudden friendship between Felicity and Laurel is so much more important, she's just gonna find out in the last episode of the season.' or something.
Of course I don't know exactly how it is, but at Spoilers Guide it was pretty clear how they said it, and let's not forget that up to now, where this was supposed to be Thea's season, her crucible, even in the Corto Maltese ep, we basically got a lot more Felicity already, than Thea.
I read that interview. I have to say you are mistaken. Actually this Laurel/Felicity scene was talked about earlier along with Thea/Felicity scene. And that line was no way promoting Felicity. I think he just meant this scene will change their dynamics. You know Marc Guggenheim. For him every episode there is a scene which is the best scene *rolls eyes*.
Just because there are not much spoilers about Thea or that people at tumblr, twitter or articles that ask audience question don't ask much about Thea does not mean she won't be given prominence in the coming episodes. One episode description said Malcolm tries to take Thea away from Starling city. I think that will be when Thea will start to be suspicious. Be cautiously positive but not too much positive because we don't want to be disappointed.
Maybe it's a little different than I took it, but let me ask you this: You hjave one character, that is already been motre explored, but is the one that can always just complain to our hero when he's already down, because of her selfish reasons, but has already had an entire episode about her past and stuff, and her mother is already showing up for another episode too.
So, if you compare her scene with Laurel, where Felicity doesn't even think there is a friendship apparently, because she only thinks about herself, and if Oliver looks at her a specific way, compared to Oliver's freakign brainwashed sister who was forced and brainwashed into killing someone, and now is being trained to take the place of her brother, the second one her father managed to get killed.
Of those two, who would you say makes most sense to get priority? So they may both have been planned, but it still pissed me the F off that when they apparently had to choose, OF COURSE Felicity got the upper hand, because her story is so much more important.
I'm just saying, this entire season Laurel getting more attention, I can handle that at this point, apart from if Laurel goes beserk on Thea when she finds out, but okay. But Felicity? I'm sorry, but at this point Olicity as well is just something that has to be kinda over, because they had the chance, and now they've already made Felicity show that when it comes to both their feelings, she thinks hers are more important.
So yeah, of course his sister and all that would be more important in my opinion xD
My point is that until now, Thea has more felt like an extension of Malcolm's story, and tot screw Oliver's life up more, than it's actually a move forward for her... I don't know.
Yeah, I read that one too, but he tries "telling" her, but the weird thing is, that the episode after that, Thea is no where to be found in the synopsis? But Malcolm is! And surprise surprise, he's going to try and team up with Team Arrow. So makes me wonder, either he got his way and Thea left... or he didn't, but he locked her upr or something.
I am not sure if we will get lot of Thea in this upcoming 3 episodes but if she gets suspicious of Malcolm's activities and slowly try to take control of her life I will be more than happy. Marc Guggenheim did say on tumblr plenty of Thea is coming. Since I don't trust his words ever I will wait and see.
I don't really check Tumblr so I wouldn't know about that, but I do remember reading something else about him saying that. But I have to wait and see too, specially in what way. After all, for now the corruption is still ongoing, just like people taking the whole sword thing as a sign/hint of her becoming Cheshire anyway.
But she is going to have her suspcions about Oliver's dissapearance, I'm just worried Malcolm will easily talk his way out of it.
First let me start by saying I am a Felicity fan. She is my most favorite character on Arrow. So I am totally biased. I can see that you dislike the way Felicity's character has gone this season. I will just say I disagree with you completely and leave it at that. There is no point in trying to change someone's mind who is completely against a character. Let's agree to disagree :).
I will only say this about Felicity when in comparison with Thea. Thea in the past two seasons had familial relationships with her mother, brother, her biological psycho father, her deceased step brother Tommy, she had a boyfriend in Roy and she had friends in Laurel, Sin and even though one scene Sara. Where as Felicity has only got meaningful relationships with Diggle and Oliver in the last 2 seasons. So her getting a dedicated episode and a relationship with a new character in Ray was necessary to give some more dimension to the character. There was Barry but he is not a character of Arrow.
I don't know where you get this feeling that Felicity is given prominence over Thea in the coming episodes? If it is about the scene that is pushed back let me ask you something why do you feel that by putting Laurel/Felicity scene it is going to be beneficial for Felicity? Laurel is going to get emotional scene with Diggle, she is going to bond with Roy the most in these 3 episodes and she gets a scene with Felicity which will maybe change their dynamics. Do you see the common factor here. They are trying to integrate Laurel into team Arrow. For that she needs to have scenes with everyone including Felicity. I truly don't think when it comes to those scenes it was an either or situation. They must have felt Felicity/Thea scenes will work better in a later episode and must have decided to move it. I think Marc mentioned Laurel/Felicity when asked about Thea/Felicity because he was promoting we have female friendships coming up thing.
I think in the coming episode 3.10 the show will mostly focus on Diggle, Felicity, Roy their reactions, Laurel's reaction and suiting up. Thea will have few scenes. One scene with Roy as we see in the short promo, training scene with Malcolm and definitely as scene where she asks Malcolm's help to find Oliver. Maybe she will have some scene with Laurel. I think that's it for Thea in this episode. Since she is in the dark she won't have any reaction to Oliver's death and this episode is about reactions and the rising of Brick. I think 3.11 will have more Thea than 3.10.
While I agree with ODA about the glitter pants, which was soo distracting in 3x09. Her fighting was not bad, but it really did not look that tough. Especially Willas end position. I hope I am wrong but I have the impression they are going the wrong fighting style with Thea. She is thin and not overly strong so she should with something more favorable with her physique. That would be Kung Fu or Aikido where you use the strength of your oponent or Ninjitsu. Don't like what they are doing with her swordfighting. Normally you never spar with a metal sword, becaue it is bad for the sword. It will break sooner rather then later, it is a waste of good material. Either you spar with bamboo or wooden sword (Kendo and Iaido). That would be also ok for her physique, because with a Katana it is about agility and velocity, "strength" (I mean abs and good back muscle) is only needed to control not cut. The sword is sharp enough on it's own. If she fights with a chinese sword (I assume it is one, I don't know much about chinese fighting styles) she should also use a Kung Fu fighting style and not be doing jap. sparring with chinese sword. We saw it did not look good.
Okay, let me be clear, I don't fully hate Felicity, I just think she's been a little unreasonable with Oliver this season, at times that she could have seen that he was having a hard time. It makes sense on some levels, I just thought it was unfair, which made me like her less xD
Because I am still sure it was about more than just the Thea/Felicity scene. I don't know.
And that's understandable about Laurel, but every episode that Malcolm gets his claws deeper in Thea and makes her do God knows what, while the show makes him seem like a guy to feel bad for again with the upcoming flashbacks, is just harder to come back from. Not to mention that I wonder if they themselves actually think that with Laurel joining Team Arrow, thats enough members on the team, and that there will be no room for Thea x'D
But I know, and I think so too about the episode, I still just hope it's not going to be the last two/one episode again of actual development on the Thea front.
And can I just say one thing, I mean, I really hoped that the team would look out for Thea in Oliver's absence, but it unfortunately doesn't really seem that way. Maybe Roy, but hey, that's not exactly surprising, but neither is he the smartest of the bunch, lol.
IMO the weakness of Arrows "stunts" is the editing. I hate in general how they chop them up. So no surprise in seeing the stunt double (which is doing a good job).
Remember we talking about the team looking out for Thea.. *sigh* Why do these things makes sense to us but not to the writers? Why wouldn't Felicity, Diggle and Roy want to protect and snatch Thea away from Malcolm? After all she is Oliver's baby sister.
Exactly! I mean, of course there's shit going to hit the fan and all that,, but that shouldn't stop them from it. Especially when they really think Oliver is dead, you'd think they'd want to do it even more for his memory or something.
I really hope the show finds it's way back to that sibling bond of Thea and Oliver, they were teasing us with it, but didn't even know if it was fully real.
But what's more close and trusting each other than having her on the team eventually? So, I still have to believe somewhere, even if it's getting a little less sometimes still, that the writers realize that too, but are just stretching it out or something.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Come on, Wednesday, hurry up and get here...
ReplyDeleteToo short...
ReplyDeleteHelp me out here, what is it about Thea's stance that makes it look like she's struggling to hold up the sword? Is it just me? Is it her elbow trembling?
ReplyDeleteOkay, let me be clear, I don't fully hate Felicity, I just think she's been a little unreasonable with Oliver this season, at times that she could have seen that he was having a hard time. It makes sense on some levels, I just thought it was unfair, which made me like her less xD
ReplyDeleteBecause I am still sure it was about more than just the Thea/Felicity scene.
ReplyDeleteRemember we talking about the team looking out for Thea.. *sigh* Why do these things makes sense to us but not to the writers? Why wouldn't Felicity, Diggle and Roy want to protect and snatch Thea away from Malcolm? After all she is Oliver's baby sister.
ReplyDeleteExactly! I mean, of course there's shit going to hit the fan and all that,, but that shouldn't stop them from it. Especially when they really think Oliver is dead, you'd think they'd want to do it even more for his memory or something.
ReplyDeleteI really hope the show finds it's way back to that sibling bond of Thea and Oliver, they were teasing us with it, but didn't even know if it was fully real.
But what's more close and trusting each other than having her on the team eventually? So, I still have to believe somewhere, even if it's getting a little less sometimes still, that the writers realize that too, but are just stretching it out or something.
He just CAN'T lose his baby sister.
