Top 10 Shows that Have Improved the Most

30 Dec 2014

Hey guys! I was inspired by Dahne’s excellent Pitch Your Low Rated Shows post so I decided to spin of her idea and share what I believe to be the top 10 shows that have improved the most and are worth a second look! I believe these fall into two categories: shows that took a while to get started and to find themselves are one, whereas shows that started great but had a creative slump before finding themselves again are the other one.

I will be sharing my list with you hoping to get your reactions to it but, more than that, hoping to get your thoughts and opinions on the comments below about what are the shows that people have given up on but have since then improved tremendously! I want to see what I am missing out!

Spoiler Warning: I tried to make this list pretty much spoiler-free but if you are really sensitive about spoilers with one particular show maybe you should skip that part of the article just to be safe.

Disclaimer: Everything said on the list below are personal opinions and obviously not facts. While I tried to use mostly widespread opinions as arguments, it may be that you won't agree with what is said.

TOP 10 Shows that Have Improved the Most and that You Might Be Missing Out

1. Agents of Shield: I personally didn't hate the first half of Season 1 like some did, but there is no doubt that the show truly became itself only in the later portion of Season 1. Those who watched the first part and didn't like don't really know what the show is about and what it becomes, so they have no idea how much they are missing out here! The plot thickens, the characters you thought were bland and uninteresting are suddenly seen on a new light, new amazing characters are introduced and the full force of Marvel’s infinite world opens up for exploration. It is one twist after the other emerged in character driven writing and surrounded by plenty of action, all mixed up in just the right way. I would urge everyone who sampled initially but was disappointed to try it out again since what the show is nowadays will probably even surpass your initial expectations for what you wanted it to be (that certainly happened in my case)!

2. Homeland: I rarely give up on a show but I almost lost it with Homeland midway of Season 3 and I adored the first seasons. Even though that Season had a few very good episodes at the end upon Brody's final return, it was till nowhere near the quality of the first season and a half in which Homeland was probably the best caliber show airing on television. So I really didn't count on Season 4 blowing my mind like it did and bringing Homeland back to the top up to a point in which I cannot actually choose between Season 4 and the early Brody seasons, which for someone who is a huge fan of Damien Lewis and the Brody character is a huge accomplishment. Homeland goes back to its roots and explores the consequences of a world in which terrorism is a reality and the sacrifices made by those who fight it every day and does so embedding a masterful writing in the lives of characters that are portrayed by a top notch cast, headlined once again by the sublime Claire Danes!

3. Covert Affairs: This is a show that started off as a very clear blue sky, feel good show that showed us the life of a young CIA recruit as she struggled in her missions and to keep up with the charade that her personal life had become due to all the secrets. While it was never bad, it was very much a light show that consisted mostly of a mission of the week format without much of an overall arc whatsoever. A well done, yet simple and mostly inoffensive procedural in nature, basically. This was true for the first two seasons of the show. However, Season 3 (and later on Seasons 4 and 5) completely turned this around. The show practically abandons the mission of the week format, kicks on full gear, gives Annie Walker some much needed maturing (both personally and as an agent) and throw you a series of twists and turns that will leave you wanting more and guessing about what happens next. I don’t remember any other show completely recreating themselves so late (relatively speaking) in their runs as Covert Affairs did. If you liked Annie and liked the potential of the show but felt frustrated by how “stale” and simple the show was in the first couple of seasons, I highly recommend that you try it out again because it is no longer the same show, at all.

4. Once Upon a Time: One of my favorite shows during Season 1 and the early portion of Season 2, I felt angry upon watching almost every single episode of Once Upon a Time during Season 2B. It was one bad decision after the other, character assassination and plots that were uninteresting in nature – who doesn’t remember Greg and Tamara as the big bad wolves or what they did to the character of Pinocchio? I remember that I wasn't even anticipating Season 3 all that much the summer before it aired. But the show turned itself around after that. With the split seasons came new 11 episode arcs that dealt with new villains and Disney world, expanding the scope of the show while providing some much needed character development for our main guys. The writing stopped going back and forth with the characters and the storylines became tight and with a sense of purpose that had been lost. OUAT was back and seemed to have learned from its mistakes.

5. New Girl: I thought Season 3 was still a good season and I enjoyed the exploration of Nick and Jess in a relationship but there really is no doubt that the show had troubles balancing itself out with these two as a couple. The good news is that by Season 4 the show found itself again and brought back to the table the concepts and the characters that made us fall in love with the show in early Season 1. If you felt that New Girl had lost its charm, I strongly recommend that you try out some Season 4 again because the show definitely gains it back (and then some)

6. The Mindy Project: Like Agents of Shield, this is yet another show that takes a while to find its voice. The first half of season 1 has a lot of experimentation (including some abrupt cast changes) as the show was still clearly trying to find out what it wanted to be, but once that’s over, the show hits a stride with a very strong confidence in what it wants to be and what it is all about. If you had the interest to try it out in the first episodes but felt uninspired by it, I recommend that you make the effort of trying it out again to see what the show truly is about, because chances are, you left it at a time in which it didn’t know it itself.

7. Revenge: I actually debated whether or not to include Revenge here because I didn’t feel like Season 2 was nowhere near as bad as most people seemed to think it was. But at the end of the day, it was still probably the worst season as a whole, if only because of the amount of filler and unrelated storylines it had going on. But that disappears 100% in Season 3 and later on in Season 4. Revenge became all about Emily and her personal vendetta once again, there was no more Initiative and the storyline had major advancements, including stuff we were wanting to see since the very first episode of the series. If you gave up because all the initiative thing and secondary storylines were not what had drawn you to the show in the first place, you should really consider coming bac to watch Emily Thorne plotting, scheming and “revenging” once again, because that’s what you’ll get!

8. Reign: I was not sure Reign belonged here because I personally love the first portion of the show as well but it has become such a different show that I still feel it has a place here. The reason for that is that the first half of Reign’s first season has front and center a storyline that, while I personally feel that in this context did work, turned away a number of viewers, which was a love triangle. Regardless of how we feel about it and whether we like it or not, the truth is that the love triangle is completely resolved around halfway of Season 1 and is left dead for good. The show then evolves and expands its focus to include more political and religious themes, using them to propel the conflict and evolution of our main characters in a brilliant way all the while keeping the same old soapy elements that attracted us to the show in the first place. So, my message here is that if you were into Reign and what it could have been but were turned off by a love triangle that was seemingly going to consume the show ad eternum, think again and try it again because that love triangle is definitely resolved pretty early on.

9. Arrow: Arrow was always a good show to me and it certainly didn’t have as much of a creative boom as others did later in their runs but I still feel it I worth mentioning it here because the increase in quality from the early episodes is still huge. While early Season 1 was very much about Oliver against the world in face offs against the villain of the week, the later portion of Season 1 and then Season 2 significantly amp up the serialization portion of the stroryline, expand the focus of the how to include other characters in Oliver’s orbit and stat mixing up the flashback action with the present day action in a delicious way. It went from an okay hour of the week for me to a must watch and one of my absolute favorite shows.

10. Grimm: Grimm is yet another show that started off slow and with what I thought was a confusing direction but found itself in the middle of the first season to become a very enjoyable weekly popcorn fun hour. This is a show that took me a really long time to get into because I really felt like the first part of Season 1 had the right elements but somehow an off execution where was something was missing, but I insisted and I am very glad I did because it pays off to stick with the show. It will never be the most ambitious show in the world but it has become very competent in what it does and it is definitely worth another try if you had troubles with the first part of Season 1!

So this is my list! What about you? What is your top 10 of shows you believe have people have jumped ship on but are worth a second look? I am looking forward to read your thoughts on the comments below!

Thanks for reading!

  1. The 100,OUAT & AoS without any doubt.Arrow & Reign is much weaker than earler season IMO.

  2. Revenge is definitely worth a try. I have already said why. It is sad that people left after season 2 since after that it Has become on of ABC's best shows. I really hope people would return. It is a great show that needs its audience back. Pls gibt it a try. You will not regret it!

  3. I would add Hart of Dixie to this list. Season 3 was painful for most fans. It just didn't have the same charm that the first season and most of season 2 had. Things definitely improved toward the end of season 3 and the last 1/3 felt much more like the old Hart of Dixie. The season 4 premiere is definitely starting things off on the right foot for what may be its final season. The focus is back on the core characters and relationships that the fans are invested in. There was a good mix of comedy and drama. So if any fan tuned out during season 3, this season is definitely worth tuning back in.

  4. I stopped watching Covert Affairs somewhere in season 3 when they decided to make Simon a love interest for Annie.

But it might be time for me to pick it back up if seasons 4-5 are much more serialized and complex as you claim.

  5. Love this list, nicely compiled. I totally agree with you on Revenge, Once, Agents of SHIELD, Arrow and Reign. Those are the only shows I watch from your list haha. I've been seeing the Mindy Project everywhere so I'm considering watching it. I still need to catch up with Grimm as I've only seen the first 6 episodes (of season 1!!) but I have the Blu-rays ready to watch.

  6. Hannibal's second season was even better then the first so I guess I'd count that and the final season of Sons of Anarchy was the best one since season 4 was I guess that counts too.

  7. I really wish people gave revenge a try again. Kick @$$ emily thorne is back

  8. Nice article. Homeland REALLY stepped up this year (except 4.05. That episode was awful). Now that they got rid of the Carrie/Brody weird love thing and focused little on Carrie being bipolar, things started to flow. Very enjoyable season as a whole.

Arrow improved in 2B from season 1 and 2A, but I feel that since the end of season 2, Arrow has gone backwards and 3A was far weaker than many of season 1's episodes.

  9. I don't agree about Revenge. But, that's your opinion - I respect that. I really liked the show in the first 2-3 seasons, but this season isn't really interesting, at least for me. Now I think the whole Initiative thing was interesting. What I don't like about season 4? David Clarke, no Conrad, no Victoria in the Grayson Manor.

  10. Arrow is better in S3 despite killing off Sara - S2 really went off the rails and was not focused at all.
Grimm definitely was better in S3, I'm not sure so about S4 - I'm through 5 episodes and something is off - partly because Nick isn't a Grimm, but also too much time on villain of week and not enough on Nick/Juliette. The only bonus has been Trubel - JT was a real find.

  11. Well maybe you should write *spoiler* at the top of your post. I am surprised that you actually liked the Initiative arc. I actually liked it myself but i find season 4 nearly as good as season 1 even though season 1 will always be the best! So i respectfully disagree with you. But everyone has a different taste. I think season 4B will be very interesting also with Tommy flanagan coming as Malcolm black so it will be about a villain again :)

  12. OUAT's going strong, in my opinion. I used to make time to watch a lot of shows. But lately, OUAT has been the only show I make sure never to miss. Not a conscious choice. It's just how it is. And that must be a testament to the quality of the show as I tend to be a very critical viewer.

    ReplyDelete
  13. For me season 1 will always be the best but season 4 has been really good and i am hoping all that darkness comes back to storybrook

    ReplyDelete
  14. Arrow used to be my favorite tv show. Season 3 has been all over the place. Too many regulars. Too many story plots. Sara's mystery murderer was dragged out for way too long. I continue to watch it purely for my Arrow Trinity (Oliver, John, Felicity). This has been and will always be the heart of the show for me.

    ReplyDelete
  15. OUAT, Doctor Who & Sleepy Hollow & Suits have improved the most to me.

  16. This is SPOILER TV. And, yes, I hope it will get better in the next half.

  17. Agree completely on Covert Affairs and Reign. Both shows from strength to strength. CA remains my favourite spy drama and an absolute delight to watch. Reign is a surprisingly gripping drama that, like The 100, pitches itself well above the average CW teen drama.

  18. I agree about Revnge,Once. As for Once,I hated season two and the first half of season three-the Pan/Neverland arc -but season 3b-the Wicked arc -& 4a-Frozen arc- were awesome and redeemed the show?As for Revnge ,Season two was bad but seasons three& four are better

    ReplyDelete
  19. ouat i love season 1 season, 2 was good until ep 10 , season 3 i dont like neverland arc and frozen arc was amazing because the 2 sisters and snow queen

    ReplyDelete
  20. For me season 3B has been the best so far. But I have great hopes for 4B as well. Didn't dislike Frozen as such but found it to take to much focus aways from the core characters, which bothered me somewhat.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Person Of Interest should be on this list! If you start watching it now, you wouldn't recognize it from the way it used to be. At first it was a crime procedural, and lately it's been a full-on science fiction / action show. It's such an amazing show, but not everyone gives it a chance because of those first few episodes (which are actually being made relevant in later seasons).

    ReplyDelete
  22. GREAT JOB, Oma Bin!

Love the list and agree with most of it! The only exception OUAT, that show really has issues. I adore the characters I grew to love them but the "great" tidbits they give us just don't work anymore, at least not for me. They so hugely build up a story and the resolution is just anticlimatic. Disappointing!

This is the first time I don't look forward to the new eps.

Arrow, Homeland, Revenge, Reign have certainly improved. Scandal is one of the rare shows that just keeps getting better. Can't wait for new episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  23. really missing the 100 on the list because season 2 nothing compared to the first season. simply amazing :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Arrow was solid this year. Eps 1,3,4,5 were quite shaky, but I fairly enjoyed the other 5. Think that block of eps from 3-5 gives a bad omen to the arc. People expected much more from it, including myself. Think they stalled a bit, not having anything real to fill in the time before the big Oliver vs Ra.
I hope 3B will be more proactive and work towards the fight vs Ra.
My personal favorite ep was "Sara" of course, closely followed by "Guilty", "The Climb" and "TBaTB".

    ReplyDelete
  25. I agree with most of your list. But Once haven't gotten any better, sorry. And I gave up on Homeland mid-way through season 2. Revenge really did got better. So happy to see some people getting back on watching it and actually enjoying it again. Hannibal, Bates Motel, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, American Horror Story should be among the list. I also agree on SHIELD, this show is getting better and better.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I agree about Revenge and Once upon a time. Both shows have had shaky second seasons, but then improved in season 3, especially Once upon a time, i gotta admit it was pretty boring but then improved quite a lot in its third season, and has been getting better better ever since. As for Revenge even though the third season was somewhat of an improvement of the the second season, i still found most vast majority of the episodes fillers. I would say that Revenge didn't truly improve until the last few episodes of season 3, its like all of the sudden Revenge has definitely skyrocketed in quality. So far season 4 has been in my opinion an intense season. Every episode seems to on point, and the writers are wasting no time. i haven't been this obsessed with Revenge since the first season. i would truly put this season on par of the first season, and first season was the best. To the people who gave up on it in seasons 2 and 3 i truly reccammend you to come back and watch season 4. I can guarantee you guys if you come back to it, it will absolutely not disappoint. While its quality has skyrocketed, i'm sad that its ratings didn't.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I agree with most of these but, although I continue to watch, I really think Covert Affairs has run out of gas.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh, I also think that Brooklyn Nine-Nine is so much more consistent and watchable in season 2 than it was in season 1. That show had a big, big improvement.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I liked 4 and 5 (5 only because Felicity got some backstory and Rickards was awesome). 6 and 7 were serious weak points for me, along with 1 and 3. Guilty had some nice Ted Grant development but so little else, while Draw Back Your Bow felt like a waste of 40 minutes.

I do agree that Sara, TBaTB and The Climb were good. Those along with The Magician are the only ones I'm actually looking forward to rewatching.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Good list i agree on most of htem, except New Girl, Nick is back being a complete idiot Winston is just a weirdo, never liked Coach and Jess is back being awkward like season 1. HTe only good character there is Schmidt.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Agreed about AOS like you I actually liked all of S1 but I can't deny its definitely jumped to a whole new level post Hydra reveal.

A couple of new shows people should check out even if they didn't like the pilots/early episodes are Selfie (even if its cancelled now its has gotten really good) and Gotham which isn't amazing but is slowly improving.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yes, they've got rid of stupid triangle, but Reign is still based on pairings and most of them right now have no sense (Catherine and umm... ghost) or chemistry (Kenna and Bash, Claude/Greer and everyone). Moreover Nostradamus drove away and has no plans to come back, Mary and Francis constantly whine over their draining love and the only full-blooded man is kept in dungeon and getting beaten by king who has no muscles. I don't know how it can be considered improvement.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Who's the guys name that's in the dungeon?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Stephane Narcisse.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Couldn't agree more with Grimm. Took me about....17-18 episodes to get into the show, but I'm sure glad I stick around. Season 3 was amazing and season 4 just keep on going. Now I'm counting the day 'til I meet the actors in Chicago. It's gonna be amazing

    ReplyDelete
  36. I loved Season 1 of Hannibal. I felt like Season 2 traded a bit too much of the psychological gravitas of the show for action and side plots. (The Verger arc was a big obstacle for the season to me, and I didn't buy Will's and Jack's character transitions in the late half of the season so easily; they weren't as earned as they could have been.)

    ReplyDelete
  37. I really loved (!!!) Season 3B

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thanks :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. I totally agree with Shield. I'm so happy that I gave it a second chance after nearly giving up on it after watching half of the first season.

Haven't watched Grimm yet, but I plan to check it out. Good to know that it improves and that I shouldn't judge it solely on the first few episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Totally agree about AoS. The Hydra arc was a gamechanger for the better. First half of season 1 was a letdown but thankfully it gradually got more interesting. Homeland was on fire this year (except for the storyline with the kid which I didn't like, and maybe the finale which was disappointing). Revenge is another show on the upswing, but after killing off another main character, I don't know how that'll affect the fanbase. And David's return/storyline has frankly been less than spectacular so far.

    ReplyDelete
  41. With regards to Covert Affairs. I find that the idea of maturing Annie is a good one. My only problem is ... I don't think they've succeeded. She has an almost child like reaction to adversities, which really annoys me. She treats Joan like crap even though she bends over backwards to protect her. It's getting so annoying - in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I completely agree with Revenge, the Iniciative in Season 2 came out of nowhere, it was just awful and meant to fill almost the whole season. I´ve always loved OUAT, I prefer Season 2 over the first one, and I love it even more now, it´s better, but IMO it always was.
And I have to say that TVD has improved over last season, which I enjoyed really much but I feel like this season is more focused, with a main storyline for the whole season, not jumping from villain to villain to unnecessary storylines and not so great character development, or none at all for some characters.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Absolutely agree on Reign, it had become so much more than the soapy drama ir intended to be at first, though it was entertaining for me it went on to become pretty brilliant to my utter surprise.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Totally agree with AOS, OUAT, Reign & Grimm. Also my favourite show is Arrow, it just keeps getting better and better. New girl this season is amazing I think to as I did get bored with it last season but stuck with it. I find a lot of the crime dramas not so great this year but maybe because I watch so many lol. Finally loving mentalist this year but that's cause it's the last season so just enjoying it whilst it lasts.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Thanks for stopping by, I am a big Reign fan as well!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Agree to disagree about Reign and Arrow. While I thought the love triangle on Reign was one of the best love triangles done on television, I feel the show has turned into a better show by moving away from it and focusing on all the politics and religion and used that to create conflict among the characters. As for Arrow, I 100% agree that Season 3 is weaker than Season 2 in my opinion but I still find it better than Season 1. It had some passable episodes, like the Cupid one and some I didn't like (such as the premiere), but The Climb, the crossover episode, Sara and Coto Maltese were all top notch imo.

    ReplyDelete
  47. What are your favorite seasons? I am always curious. For me it's probably something like this:
    1. Season 3A| Season 1A - Tie
    3. Season 1B
    4. Season 4A
    5. Season 2B
    6. Season 2A
    7. Season 3B

    For the record, I consider:
Season 1A: Up until Tyler's death on the beach
Season 2A: Up until Amanda's death on the boat
Season 3A: Up until Emily's shooting

Season 4A: Up until Daniel's death

    ReplyDelete
  48. Agree about Revenge (I love how they're throwing caution to the wind in season four) and Homeland (the stretch from episodes 6-11 was as good as the show had ever been). But Reign's dramatically fallen off for me this season - Francis and Mary's relationship is exhausting, Bash and Kenna are sidelined, the Greer/Leith thing was predictably CW, no Nostradamus, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I am a big minority here but I didn't have a problem with Hart of Dixie Season 3. It didn't feel like a different show to me like most people complained and I enjoyed the exploration of Zoe's search for her family, Wade's growth and where they went with George (though he suddenly being in love with Lemmon again was very random and came too much out of the blue for my taste). I also didn't mind Joel as much as the entire fandom did. But maybe it helps that I essentially watched the season marathoned in two halves, so it didn't feel to me like Joel was there for too long like most people had complained about. For that reason, I didn't really feel that there was such a jump in quality because I didn't feel said quality had ever disappeared. But that's just my two cents, I understand and appreciate your opinion, thanks for sharing it ;)

Regarding Revenge, I still love the show, so well, to each his own ;) Regarding Reign, I think the show has improved and I enjoy what they are exploring in terms of politics/ religion, but I have to agree with some of your critics particularly with what they are doing with Bash which is a crime, since he was my favorite character last year and now they've turned him into a background character. That should definitely be corrected. But I like the conflict they've had between Mary and Francis and I think it's coming from some real places. So well, agree to disagree there!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Greer and Castleroy are really good, IMO. And I like Kenna and Bash, so them being sidelined this season for more repetitive drama between Mary and Francis is annoying. Agree with you on Nostradamus leaving being a major flaw of the season, but I don't think what's hurting the show is a lack of "full-blooded men".

    ReplyDelete
  51. I don't agree that Scandal has gotten better. I think the current season is a pretty decent improvement over season three, but the show's peak remains the middle of season two. And with its success, I don't know if it has the incentive to improve/find its way back.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I actually enjoyed the storyline of Simon as a love interest for Annie but that is mostly for the doors it opens for the show later on. The episodes before the midseason finale of Season 3 are spectacular and end that storyline in a really fascinating way while propelling some big changes for Annie.

And yeah, I definitely reiterate that the show becomes much more serialized and complex. You still tend to get some case of the week episodes, but those are almost often (if not always) involved in a larger arc with connections to the big thing that is going on. It will never turn into a show as dark and serious as say, Homeland, but that's not the purpose either IMO.

Try it out and let me know ;)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Very nice article! I'm sorry to say that I only watch Arrow from the list above so I can't say a whole lot about everything else. But I agree that Arrow's second season improved from season 1, though it was still not without its flaws. Still, I really enjoyed season 2A despite many people calling it weak. 2B (minus Blast Radius and Blind Spot) included some of the series' strongest episodes and improved even more from 2A. But sadly season 3 has been very weak. Lazy one-off villains, focus on love stories, not enough screen time for Diggle, Quentin and Malcolm, and killing off Sara and dragging out her murder mystery. There are only three episodes that I 100% enjoyed (episodes 4, 8 and 9) and the rest hasn't been of much note.

    ReplyDelete
  54. The Hart of Dixie hate was just butthurt, entitled Zade fans. It was the same show it always was - it just didn't have Zoe and Wade as a couple, so people automatically wrote it off.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I think binge watching most shows helps get through some of the issues I've had with some of the seasons. It definitely would have helped with season 3 of HoD. I didn't dislike it as much as some did, but it certainly wasn't my favorite. I loved Wade's growth from the end of season 2 and throughout season 3. I even liked that they brought in Zoe's family. I wouldn't have minded Joel quite so much if he had remained a bit more in the background. It just seemed like the middle of HoD had no real direction or movement. And then the last couple of episodes things sped up. I get that a lot of things happened, namely Jaime King's pregnancy and maternity leave, which just made it hard to replace.

Revenge is definitely a show that I enjoy more when I binge watch it. I'll probably go back and do that after this season is over.

Reign is a show that I want to like and root for. And I'll more than likely catch up on it since I'm only a couple of episodes behind. I'm hoping they do more with some of the other characters in the 2nd half than they did in the first. I was really disappointed in how they handled Bash this season. One of the things I really looked forward to with the end of the triangle last season was Bash finally getting a direction. I do like the politics and religion. And I appreciate that they ended the triangle. The ships on the show weren't ever a draw for me so I'm happy the writers didn't drag things out there like some other shows. They made a decision and went with it. So you definitely have to respect that.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I do agree with that to some extent although I found that I missed a lot of other things in season 3 as well. Namely some of the friendships. I think for me a huge part of the problem was the absence of Lemon which couldn't be helped. And there really just wasn't any replacing Lemon.

    ReplyDelete
  57. 1. 1A

    I am loving season 4!!!!!! :)

  58. Tanks for the kind words! The Mindy Project is really worth trying out! I binge watched the first two seasons this summer after also hearing about it everywhere and it is amazing. Chris Messina must be one of the most underrated comedy actors around!

As for Grimm, those first 6 episodes are probably the worst to get into the series, I struggled a lot to continue after that and I find it kind of a miracle that the show did so well right out of the gate in the ratings in spite of that! But if you have the time and like the genre, you should definitely try it out!

  59. Thanks for stopping by and sharing. I didn't think Hannibal had such a high jump in quality from Season 1 to Season 2, though I did prefer Season 2. As for Sons of the Anarchy, I've never watched it, so I can't comment on that!

  60. I loved Carrie and Brody toxic love. They were both so unbalanced individually so it was really fascinating to see all that mixed up in a relationship that had everything going against it. I understand why wouldn't want it, but I loved it. But the show obviously had to move on from Brody and Season 3 proved that they made a mistake keeping it on for the extra year. I am really glad Season 4 proved the show could still be amazing without Brody, as much as I liked him.

I thought Season 3A from Arrow was a noticeable step down from Season 2 but still better than Season 1. It had one or two very passable episodes, but overall a lot of iconic ones for me. Sara, The Secret Origin of Felicity Smoak, The Brave and the Bold and The Climb are some of my favorite Arrow episodes (in an admittedly large list) while Corto Maltese, The Magician and Guilty were also pretty good. The only subpar episodes for me were just the premiere and the cupid episode (and those weren't awful either, just subpar)

    ReplyDelete
  61. I really thought the Felicity episode was one of the best one of the series, I just loved to watch it (and I didn't even used to think of myself as an hardcore Felicity fan). But still, I would say that you really liking 4 episodes up to the point of wanting to rewatch them and enjoying other two, out of a total of 9, isn't really a bad season for a show IMO. Like I said in another comment, I only really had issues with the premiere and Draw Back Your Bow.

  62. I think the problem with Season 2 was the fact that, as a whole, there were so many secondary storylines that didn't work. Usually for a show like Revenge an unsuccessful secondary storyline isn't a big deal, especially because it doesn't tend to take away too much screen time, but Revenge was unlucky enough to have all of its Season 2 storylines not working. The Ryan Brothers, Declan's useless status, Ashley jumping from Grayson to Grayson, Padma Lahiri, even the fact that so little was made with Emily's mother... All of that was just stuff that didn't work for the show. To me that was the problem with Season 2, not so much the initiative thing (though I do agree with the consensus that the show works best when it's Emily against the Graysons instead of Emily against some big bad unknown figure). I still found, in spite of all this, that Season 2 had plenty to love and episodes like Sacrifice, The Masquerade, Truth and Illusion are oustanding.

As for Season 4, I have a fundamental disagreement with David being alive as I feel it cheapens out the show and don't really feel it was needed. So I am all up there with you on that. But this is one of those cases in which I feel it's worth it to let it go of that one thing that bothers so that you can enjoy the rest of it. David being alive has created some truly remarkable moments, including one of my favorite Revenge moments ever which was when Emily revealed herself to her father.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I think Season 3A is the most underrated part of Revenge. I thought it was amazing and it was by far the most tightly focused arc on Revenge with a beginning, middle and end. Emily's plan was truly diabolical, I loved it.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I agree with you, Season 3 B was my favorite I think (though I loved Season 1 as well). I have high hopes for Season 4B though, I adored the introduction of the queens of darkness.

  65. OUAT really has turned it around ;)

    ReplyDelete
  66. Thanks for sharing. We agree to disagree then. I don't think the show has lot focus actually. And I think they solved Sara's mystery at the right time. She was murdered at the end of episode 1 and they solved it during episode 9. 8 episodes seems to be a decent enough amount of time for such a big storyline for me, but to each his own ;)

    ReplyDelete
  67. I agree on OUAT like the article states! Doctor Who I've never watched so I can't comment. Sleepy Hollow I don't really find a huge difference in quality between the two seasons but I am surprised you think this one is so much better since most people seem to believe the opposite. As for Suits (a favorite of mine), I agree that it has improved a lot, but it really didn't take that long for it to found its stride. I found Season 2 to be hugely better than Season 1 (which was too procedural), but Season 1 already had the "style" of the show embedded in it I think. But I probably still would have picked it had this been a top 15 thing or so ;)

    ReplyDelete
  68. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! It appears we are in agreement then ;)

    ReplyDelete
  69. I on the other hand enjoyed Guilty for the Oliver-Roy connection brewing and Draw Back your bow was a seriously good episode. It had dynamic, development and good Olicity development! Usually the Villains are playing the games to stupid and Cupid was a challenge even though a bit cheese at times.
The Felicity centric episode was terrible for me. Rickards and her Tv mom nailed it in their solo scenes but overall storywise disappointing and weak. Thought it would give us more insight in Felicity*s character.
The Magician was solid but I expected more, somehow it let me down.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I am one of the few who actually enjoyed the Neverland arc. Though I agree with the general criticism that they wondered around the jungle for a bit too long, I still enjoyed the whole adventure feel of it. And there were many moments that I enjoyed there such as Hook's flashbacks in Neverland, Tinker Bell, Ariel, Pan being revealed to be Rumple's father (one of my favorite revels on OUAT), Regina and Emma teaming up for one of the first times to save Henry, Charming's attempt at sacrifice and then, of course, the amazing midseason finale with Emma and Henry leaving. More importantly, I didn't feel like there was character assassination right and wrong with characters going back and forth between what they were and what they weren't like in Season 2B. I realize this isn't a popular option but it was how I felt anyway ;) Regardless, I felt like Season 3B was far superior, I agree on that, I truly loved the Wicked arc.

  71. The actors are going to be here in Chicago?! Woot woot. When?

    ReplyDelete
  72. I liked the 2nd part of the 2nd season I rushed through s1 and S2 and was so hooked that it just kept getting better for me. Season 3 felt so fresh for me and enjoyed it to the max!
And season 4 just gets better and better. Like the twists and turns!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Thanks for sharing! Well I am one of the few that did enjoy the Neverland arc, but we agree on the rest. I really disliked season 2 from episode 10 onwards!

    ReplyDelete
  74. It wasn't always bad, but it wasn't ever great imo. Season 3 just went off the rails with Brody, and now he's gone the show has vastly improved.

Season 1 from Vertigo onwards was far better than 3A has been imo. The premiere was just wasted I feel. So much time spent on Oliver/Felicity scenes that were just generally not that interesting, surrounded by them trying to include what every single character, leading to people like Roy getting about 2-3 mins screen time and saying about 4 lines. And Sara's death just annoyed me. Corto Maltese didn't know whether it wanted to be Diggle focused or Thea focused and ended up being neither (nor much good). Guilty had some decent Ted development but little else (the Roy thing was so wasted and predictable). Draw Back Your Bow could have been good but they used Cupid as a plot device to fuel the jealous storyline. Which is a shame because Gumenick was great in the role.

3A felt like it had no clear direction. It was just plodding along until Oliver fought Ra's.

  75. Hey there, thanks for sharing! I didn't think about increasing Person of Interest because while it is indeed a very different show from what it was, I think POI was always a very high quality show in what it was doing, regardless of whether that was being a procedural or being a serialized show. It changed what it was but it kept its quality, so that's why I didn't think of it. But I agree with you that if people left it because they didn't like to watch procedurals or something like that (even if POI is my favorite show at doing crime procedural episodes, as I find the almost always very interesting), they should try it again because it truly evolves into something much deeper than that !

    ReplyDelete
  76. Thanks, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for sharing your opinion!

Regarding Once Upon a Time, I think it's not a show everyone likes and sometimes they have problems like an excess of cheesiness but well, I can live past that and love the show for what it is. I do understand that you may not love it anymore though, sorry about that!

    ReplyDelete
  77. The problem isn't that I liked 4 out of 9 (let's say 4.5 if you count Felicity story from 3.05, and ignore the other storylines), it's that the other 4.5 I have absolutely no desire to rewatch. If those others weren't spectacular, but they were relatively ok, I'd have no real problem with 3A because though it wouldn't be an outstanding start, it'd be a solid one. Instead I'm just left a bit annoyed.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I agree. To me, the first half of Season 2, that culimates with Fitz killing Verna as she confesses to him while dying was the show's highlight.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I like Season 2 a lot but I am not as convinced as most are that it is thaaaat much better than Season 1. I think I like Season 2 as much you guys do, the difference is that I already loved it as much during Season 1. And there are a few things I liked better in Season 1 such as the huge development of Bellamy (though Season 2 has other advantages as well).

    Thanks for sharing anyway!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Thanks for sharing! As for our disagreements, well, agree to disagree ;)

    ReplyDelete
  81. Thanks for sharing! I love both OUAT and Revenge, so I am always glad to see people commenting on them! We agree about OUAT. Regarding Revenge, I actually feel that Season 3A, with Emily planning the wedding was incredible and one of the show's best. I loved how it was so tightly focused around that one goal. The secondary storylines (namely Patrick) were also some of the best the show has had I thought.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Well, agree to disagree on Covert Affairs then, I really think the show found new life in Season 3 when it became serialized. I do feel that it could end next year though (I hope we get a wrap up season and not an outright cancellation).

    Thanks for sharing ;)

    ReplyDelete
  83. I don't really agree on this one, because I felt Season 1 was equally amazing. And while comedies usually take a while to get confident and find their voice, I felt that B99 did that almost out of the gate, so I don't find that much improvement. I love Season 2, but I loved Season 1 as well.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Thanks for sharing! We will never agree on everything, of course. Regarding New Girl, I find that most of the things you are complaining about are things that are at the very core of what New Girl is and always has been, so they aren't things I would really like to see changed. So maybe your problem isn't with Season 4 per se but with New Girl as a show? I don't know, just my two cents ;)

    ReplyDelete
  85. Thanks for sharing and obviously we agree about AOS!

As for your other two suggestions, I agree that Gotham has been getting better, though it still isn't must watch for me. I find it very competent in everything that it does but I am not sure the show knows what it wants to be just yet. But it has done enough to warrant me sticking with it for now. And regarding Selfie, I 100% agree. I liked the show since the beginning but midway through the first 13 episodes it really found its voice and it became even better. It's truly a shame that it has been cancelled so soon.

    ReplyDelete
  86. The worst part is I'm still hooked. But either way I think their storytelling could improve and instead of trying to overdo themselves each time and just tell more simple stories more character driven.
The Frozen story was nicely introduced but they went overboard with Ingrid instead of keeping it simple. Why did they need a Villain? Rumple's plotting was more than enough. They think if they push it it would gather more viewers but they did the opposite thing with pushing Ingrid.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. We obviously don't agree about Reign. I believe the things you complain about are things that are part of the core identity of Reign as a show. It will always have soapy elements and a lot of pairings involved in the storyline. But I feel that where Season 2 has improved over Season 1 is that it has managed to make the conflict between the characters and the drama in those relationships come from really interesting places, such as the divergences in terms of politics and religion. But to each his own ;)

    ReplyDelete
  88. I think the Mary and Francis drama has been quite real and interesting to watch this season since it didn't come from the obvious places like jealousy or something like that, it was more organic than that. But I agree that sidelining Kenna and, especially Bash has been a huge mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I don't remember exactly how long it took me. Probably a bit less than that but around the same. It sure takes its sweet time! But we agree tat it's worth doing so ;)

Thanks for sharing and corroborating my opinion on the show ;)

    ReplyDelete
  90. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and I am glad you will be trying out Grimm! ;)

  91. Thanks for sharing your thoughts ;)

  92. The Roy-Oliver stuff was alright, though I was happier with Roy's development, but the whole 'did he kill Sara?' thing followed by the reveal to him that he killed the cop being way overdue and then quite rushed was annoying.

Really couldn't disagree more on your Draw Back Your Bow thoughts. The way they've handled Oliver and Felicity thus far has been agonising to watch from my point of view, to the point where I just don't care if they get together or not - BUT MAKE A BLOODY DECISION. The jealousy storyline was so uninteresting to watch.

Everything but the Felicity storyline was poor. But Rickards was superb and the backstory was superb so it redeemed itself somewhat in my book.

I loved The Magician. It felt like 'Sara' but with Nyssa at the centre of the grief, Malcolm being the target of it which not only gave us Barrowman being great, but it also wasn't another forgettable villain (which Komodo was). Also the fight scene was awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I agree with you that Annie's treatment of Joan hasn't been a good one but in a lot of ways I feel like she has matured. She used to be this naive girl about the way the world worked and about what she was giving up or not, and she is a much colder, more "efficient" person nowadays. I think they've achieved a lot of growth. She is stubborn and doesn't do as she is told but those are traits of the character, not lack of growth I think.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Thanks for sharing. In regards to TVD, I would have included it had the list had been just one slot longer. I almost gave it an honorable mention. This season is sooooooo much better than last season, it's not even comparable and it's not even the same show. The reason why I didn't include it on the main list was because, as much as the show has improved tremendously and this season is enjoyable, I think that says more about how awful last season was than anything. I still can't actually say that the show is back to the glory of the first two seasons, even if it's back to being very good!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Agree on that, thanks for stopping by ;)

    ReplyDelete
  96. Thanks for sharing! I agree on most accounts, except for the mentalist which I don't watch, so no comments there!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Well, I think it's a case of agree to disagree with Reign. I agree 100% with the issue of sidelining Bash and Kenna, I think that's the show biggest mistake so far. But I don't really take issue with the other things you've mentioned.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I agree that they are going for those particular traits in Annie. I just think they manage to make her appear more like a child who doesn't get her way than a stubbornly driven agent. Which is a pity.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Thanks for the kind words and thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Regarding Arrow, we agree about Season 2. I actually have a hard time imagining the show will find a way to produce a season that I like as much as I liked that one since I enjoyed it so damn much. But I don't share the overall disappointment of Season 3A. I have a huge problem with the overall direction which is the fact that I am probably one of the people that is the most furious with the fact that they killed of Sara, but leaving that aside and assuming that as an inevitable thing (which it wasn't, but well), I think 3A has been okay. Sara, The Secret Origin of Felicity Smoak, The Brave and the Bold and The Climb were some of my favorite episodes and I also thought Guilt, Corto Maltese and The Magician were pretty ok. The ones I found subpar were The Calm and Draw Back Your Bow but to me 2 subpar episodes out of 9 are acceptable. As for some of your particular problems with the season so far, I actually think that Diggle has had more to do this year than the whole Season 2. At least I feel like we've been watching a lot more of him this year. Corto Maltese had plenty of him and even in the crossover episode he had a prominent storyline. I also thought they left the Sara's mystery on for the right amount of time. 8 episodes really isn't that much, IMO, but maybe that's just me.

In any case, as I was saying in a comment below, I feel that these 9 episodes were a lot about getting Oliver to where he was at the end of the midseason finale (both physically and emotionally). I suspect that in a lot of ways we will enjoy this initial arc a lot more after we have the entire season to appreciate this more. And I am very optimistic about 3B, I have very high hopes!

    ReplyDelete
  100. glad to know. I love Sleepy Hollow it's intriging to me mysterious. I know what people think but I hope for S3.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Hannibal jumped from being 25th on my top 50 shows list for it's first season to being 7th this year.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I don't get that feeling with her though, so maybe I don't feel that bad execution that you complain about! Agree to disagree probably ;)

    ReplyDelete
  103. I disagree in there. I think they do need a villain. One of the reasons I hated Season 2B as much as I did was because it completely lacked a villain or an overall sense of purpose, a "where is this going" thing. Most shows need that and OUAT is one of those who needs it the most in my opinion. Because it has such a vast scope (the entire Disney universe!), we as viewers need to feel that we are watching arcs with beginning, middle and endings, or else it's very hard to feel invested I feel. And villains provide that focus.

    ReplyDelete
  104. The show will be renewed, don't worry ;)

    ReplyDelete
  105. Well, agree to disagree. I think 3A had very decent character development that couldn't happen last year when they had the city under attack from Slade and that will be needed for whatever is happen in 3B to matter. We shall see.

(I do agree 100% about the premiere though)

    ReplyDelete
  106. Like I said above, well, agree to disagree I think :P

    ReplyDelete
  107. That's quite a jump eheh!

    ReplyDelete
  108. Cool one! I am actually surprised you liked 2A more than 2B! And you really love 4A!

    ReplyDelete
  109. I agree that binge watch is often a way to get over the issues that some shows might have particularly when it has to do with pacing.

As for Reign, I agree 100% that they need to address the Bash situation urgently. That, to me, has been the biggest misstep of Season 2. He was my favorite character last year, so it just sucks to see him sidelined this year.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Yeah :-) I would be ok with it if her reactive pattern wasn't always the same. But she acts the same way every time something does go how she wants it to. IMO. And that gets a little old for me.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I really fell in love with it this year to the point where I've bought both seasons on Blu-Ray and have started lending it out to people to get them to like it before season 3 starts. It's probably my favorite network drama neck and neck with Blue Bloods.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Come on, you have to at least say: "back to the glory of the first THREE seasons" because even though I prefer S4 over S3, S3 had an awesome storyline and it fit very well with the characters and all.

    ReplyDelete
  113. I also wasn't into the whole 'did he kill Sara' portion of the episode butRoy desperaetly needed some love and I hope he gets much more space and does those scenes. Colton acts well those I'm vulnerable scenes. He did in Tw and also here in Arrow.

I'm also annoyed by the way they are dragging Olicity around but DBYB was so so much forward and Felicity was once nore so strong and determined to move on that I was even a fan of Ray.

The only goof thing they did with the Felicity ep is change it's title cause this episode certainly doesn't deserve the Oracle title.

The Magician had its good parts but I don't know. It just didn't fill up my glass. I fairly enjoy Nyssa appearing and her interactions with the others but the resolution of the fight was underwhelming. They believed Malcolm to easy and Ollie was way to easy on him.

Till Friday I'll publish my first Arrow fanfic on fanfiction.net would for you to read it and comment if your up to. It'll be Thea centric with some huge surprises. ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  114. I didn't feel like Season 3 and 4 were up to the standards of the first two.
I would rank the seasons like this:
    1. Seasons 1 and 2
    3. Season 3
    4. Season 4 and 6
    6. Season 5

    ReplyDelete
  115. I also enjoyed the Neverland Arc a lot, I thought it was well done and interesting and the reveal that Pan was Rumple´s father was really cool, did not see that one coming. BUt I enjoyed 3B a lot more, loved it.

    ReplyDelete
  116. My rank would be:
    1. Season 2
    2. Season 4
    3. Season 6 (so far, even though I think that when it ends it will be number 2)
    4. Season 3
    5. Season 5
    6. Season 1

    ReplyDelete
  117. I didn't meant they don't need an Villain at all but it think they pushed it to far with Ingrid . Maybe to take on a confused and amnesia scared Elsa would've been a better choice. Cause Ingrid was so pumped that the way her story ended was for me underwhelming. I needed for Emma or Elsa to take her out, but no she needed absolution and slwdestruction.
In 2B the writers were completely lost and honestly it was quite bad. Except Miller's Daughter (best OAUT episode in my book).
I'm so sad they didm't explore young and old Cora more she was quite the bang.
2B was bad cause they wanted to safe the whole drama for S3. And I'm not happy with what they did there. We didn't got any Tinker-Pan moments, no Hook-Pan moments from his time in Neverland and it was badly rushed to an end.
Pan should've appeared in SB in S02 and tried to lure Henry away but no we got T&G instead.

    ReplyDelete
  118. For me its something like this
    1. season 1A
    2. season 1B
    3. season 4A
    4. season 3B
    5. season 3A
    6. season 2B
    7. season 2A

    ReplyDelete
  119. I was glad Colton Haynes got more to do. Hopefully he gets a lot to do in the next few episodes with Oliver gone.

That just made things worse. Felicity was ready to move on and Oliver suddenly wasn't. So it was just things as they were, just flipped.

Oliver was way too easy on Malcolm but it was interesting that he decided to protect Malcolm, I thought, especially given that it came back to haunt him (and, at the same time, help him - had Nyssa killed Malcolm in 3.04 then League sees Thea kill Sara = Thea dies).

I don't really read fan fiction tbh, but if I get time I'll try to give it a read.

    ReplyDelete
  120. So glad to see Grimm there, because I agree. I've watched since episode 5, caught up, and it's must see TV ever since. I've always found it entertaining even when it seemed lost in stupid plotlines (remember amnesia?). The show has suddenly found its footing this year, and I'm so glad.

    ReplyDelete
  121. it's not associated with NBC or Grimm's officials, but it's a little convention made by fans of the show (who were tired of seing the actors only going to stuff on the pacific coast) who are inviting guests...guests who just happen to be all from Grimm ;P David, Bitsie and Reggie are the first 3 invited. It's the last weekend of May, search Random Sprinkles of Entertainment on google :)

    ReplyDelete
  122. I remember getting into it around the time Adalind and Nick went head to head from the first time. The thing is with that show, a HUGE part of the show (IMO) is based on the amazing chemistry between Nick&Monroe/David&Silas, just like the chemistry of SPN is based on J&J/the boys' chemistry...but in Grimm, Nick and Monroe are stranger, even kind of ''natural ennemies'' at the beginning. It took some time for them to really build their strong friendship that make me love the show so much.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Thank you! I will keep that weekend open.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Agents of Shield is an awesome show and I never knew why many people hate or hated it. Like half the marvel fandom hates or hated it. The only bad thing I can think about it is how many of the characters are made up. After the events of Captain America the winter soldier the show took a giant leap and now it is better than ever

    ReplyDelete
  125. I don't complain about pairings being involved in the storyline, because I've got ued to it, but about their stupidity and emotionlessness.
The politics and religion part is thing I can more or less agree with you.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I did not like 2B because it did not have to do much with fairytales. It was just all wrong. Completely wrong@

    ReplyDelete
  127. The only episode i liked in season 2B was the two hour finale and sacrifice so when amanda died. I thought 2A was just a bit stronger :)

    ReplyDelete
  128. Thanks for sharing and I am glad you agree with my Grimm inclusion ;)

    ReplyDelete
  129. Hey there, thanks for sharing. I agree that Agents of Shield became a much better show after the events of Winter Solider. I truly think that everyone who hates it so much nowadays doesn't truly know the show. It became something else during the last third of Season 1 and during Season 2 and that's something one couldn't envision from those first few episodes on which people base their opinions on the show. It's really a shame, I wish people would give it another chance!

    ReplyDelete
  130. You didn't like The Masquerade? I thought it was amazing. Also, the Season 2 finale is possibly the most underrated finale of the show!

    ReplyDelete
  131. I agree with everything you said

    ReplyDelete
  132. For some reason I did not really like the masquerade but rewatching it, it actually is an excellent episode. IKR the season 2 finale blew my mind even though every finale blows my Mind from revenge. The most shocking finale has to go to season three though. I mean i did not expect anything that happened there.

    ReplyDelete
  133. The Season 3 finale might just be the best episode of the show IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Definitely!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  135. What a great idea for an article!

I actually liked SHIELD better than most comic book fans did because I had little expectation coming in. However I agree that around the midseason hiatus, it took a huge leap forward.

As for Grimm, I actually liked it in teh first season but then was slowly falling out of love with it last year. It felt a bit stale and when they decided NOT to tell Wu the truth, I was so frustrated at the main characters that I was rooting for the Wesen. It was actually the introduction of Trubel that really made the show for me again. She revitalized almost everyone and gave me a role that I could for Nick in again. He made a great mentor.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Arrow baby! For life! Season. For me was definitely better tIan season 1. And I'm loving season. For so many reasons. (A few not so many, but i'm not getting into that).

New Girl has definitely improved. I love Jesnick. Yes I ship them, but I'm loving Ryan for her right now. And her interactions with him are hilarious! I laughed so much with the mid season finale. The whole airport thing was too funny. The group has definitely got its groove back.

I also want to add TVD. Kai being here this season is so much better than season 5 Alone.

  137. Season 2 of SHIELD is really good! I liked the first season, but now I'm loving the show and I can't wait for it to come back. Revenge and Once are really good now; after season 2 ended I didn't think either show could top S1, but S3 changed my mind. S4A of Once is my favorite after S1 (and that could change after a rewatch of both), and Revenge S4 is good but it can be way better (I liked S3A more than 4A). Hopefully the next half gets things done (and it looks like it will) lol. Chicago PD is gets better by each episode. I hated S3 of Scandal (if I ever rewatch the show, I'm skipping that season), but I'm really liking S4.

  138. I'm right there with you on everything lol. Hopefully Once and Revenge come back better than ever and beat S1 as the best season of the show(s).

  139. I don't blame them. They had 4 episodes before they had individual episodes (ep 5 Felicity, ep 6 Roy (kinda), ep 7 Cupid, ep 8 crossover, ep 9 Winter Finale) so they couldn't get deep into the Big Bad storyline till they did those episodes. I'm confident the 2nd half will be better

  140. I completely agree with you on Covert Affairs, I'd kind of lost touch with it and a few days ago I watched an episode from the latest season and I didn't recognize a thing. They sure turned it around. I'm going to have to go back and catch up on the episodes that I missed.
Another show that I think is getting better is Teen Wolf, the first 2 seasons were mostly ok, you could see there was potential but it remained very much a teen show with the usual teenage angst that usually gets on my nerves. And then season 3 completely turned it around, adding completely new mythology and kickass new characters and killing off central characters (for various reasons) which I never thought they would do. There are a still a few minor plot problems but it's getting better and better, as are the actors. Dylan O'Brien in particular gave a spectacular performance, I already loved his character (like most people I guess) but he gave him some extra layers that were quite awesome.

  141. Definitely Agents of SHIELD improved the most. Grimm improved starting six episodes into the 1st season pacing wise - story wise I haven't always liked some of the story for Nick and Juliette and Adalind needs to go. Once Upon a Time bounced back from that bad second half of season 2, but I find most of the last 2 seasons haven't quite been as good as season 1. That season and start of season 2 will always be my favorites though parts of the 1st half of the lastest season have been just as good.

  142. I actually love Season 1 and 2 of Person of Interest the most. The machine storyline is exciting and interesting and all that but I feel like something is lacking that the first 2 seasons had and I can't quite put a finger on it.

  143. very glad you're still pissed about how they ruined August

    ReplyDelete
  144. so is low expectations bad?

    ReplyDelete
  145. and how often do you get one of your leads to the be the Big Bad for a season and a half?

    ReplyDelete
  146. who was the Big Bad for season 2? i don't remember (for Once Upon a Time)

  147. Humans. People Neal knew. At least the woman anyways.

  148. Nice article! I agree with you on Covert Affairs and Agents of Shield. Covert affairs has became an excellent show since season 3. The plot become more complex and interesting. My personal favourite is Season 4b.In season 4b, Annie become free agent. It is interesting that she has to decide what to do next instead of taking orders. Her charactistis, such as likes to follow her gut, work best when she is a free agent.

For agent of shield, the best things of season 2 is the new characters, like hunter and bobbie. Can we have a spinoff sitcom about hunter and bobbie? Their interactions are hilarious.

I also think that elementary improve itself from the second half of season 2. I found that the second half of season 2 is not good, mostly because of Mycroft. I can't explain why but i just don't ike Mycroft. In season 3, I like that the relationship between Holmes and Watson become more like equal partnership instead of mentor- protege relation. Kitty also is a nice addition to the show. The relationship between Holmes, Watson and Kitty just like a little family.

  149. As for Arrow-My preference is Season 2 >Season 3 >Season 1.As far as Reign is concerned- i only have this to say-I cannot take a show seriously when they bring topics like Book of Sex & Ghost sex into play. The rape track completely unncessary & bash has been designated as a doormat character to prop up irritating characters like lola & narcisse. The greer storyline is also not moving anywhere & while i love adelaide & toby's performances.their characters constant marital melodrama is getting frustrating. The conde character is also used to prop up another irritating love triangle.Kenna also has zero storyline.Whoa, that was a lot of ranting. But i love megan's character to death, she is awsome in this role. So,yes agree to disagree for this show.I'm just watching out of habit as i rarely drop a show in it's 2nd season.

    ReplyDelete
  150. I dropped Revenge as well because of this season, as I thought David's storyline did not go well at all.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Idea for another article: Show's that deteriorated the most and the list must include Lost Girl. I'm still sticking with it but it's tough to love what that show is now.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Also Shield love it! It has improved so much! I hope May won't get back to her ex-husband thou. I love Philinda.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Both will be renewed, dont worry ;)

    ReplyDelete
  154. Possible, it's not that i don't like those things i just hoped it would evolve a bit you know? instead they play the same song over and over and i get bored. I juat htin a little characters evolution wouldn't be so bad.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Yeah, the drop kind of worries me too, but ABC has so many shows that are still doing much worse than OUAT, even with the drop. Shield also has pretty high 18-49 ratings, so I think it's safe too, which is good because I also love both shows.

    ReplyDelete
  156. I agree. One of the main reasons that I like OUAT so much is because it takes fairytales, which are usually meant for children and managed to deepen the characters and stories enough that they're engaging for adults too. I never thought about it until you brought it up, but you're right that season 2B of OUAT had an absence of fairytales, which meant that it was somehow missing the "magic" that other seasons had.

  157. That's the beauty of it! ;)

  158. I LOVE Bates Motel, so it's great to see it mentioned here because I rarely see anyone talking about it on the internet. I agree that season 2 was better than season 1. I really enjoyed season one, but season 2 just seemed sharper. It had a better grasp of who its characters were and their relationships with the other characters and the stakes seemed to be much higher. I can't wait to see what they're doing in season 3.

    ReplyDelete
  159. I agree with you. B99 seemed to have found its voice in season 2. I thought that the later episodes of season 1 were slightly better than the early ones overall, but that season 2 has been and improvement on both of them.

    ReplyDelete
  160. The same thing happened with me. I was excited about it at first, then I just kind of fell behind because I lost interest. After I heard that the show really "turned" around (ha!) with Turn, Turn, Turn, I decided to catch up and was not disappointed for the most part. I do think that the end of season 1 was slightly better than the start of season 2, but this season has still been a huge improvement over the seemingly aimless early episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  161. I totally agree with you on every show I've stuck with. Shield's major improvement pretty much goes without saying at this point, even though I do think that late season one has been slightly better than early season 2 so far. Season one after Turn turn turn just seemed to have a bit more of a purpose and wasn't as bogged down by all of the betrayals. I understand why they have to include that part of the show, but I think it's lost a bit of its humor and fun in the process.
I haven't seen season 4A of OUAT because I like to binge watch it on netflix, but I think that season 3B was a huge improvement on season 3A, not because 3A was unwatchable or anything, but because 3B made such brave choices in character development and in changing the relationships between characters in ways that were coherent, unlike 2B which really jumped all over the place and derailed a lot of characters, especially my favorite, Regina.
Grimm is one of those shows that I ignore for most of the year, then chow down on in a week and I'm partway through gobbling up season 3 and I agree that it's better than the earlier seasons, which again, weren't bad, season 3 is just better imo. I LOVE supernatural case of the week procedurals so I'm glad that Grimm is so good this season so I can watch it after I've devoured others like Once Upon a Time and Supernatural and am waiting for the new episode of The Librarians to premiere.
I'm liking New Girl this year. Coach seems better and most of the characters seem to be back to their season 1 selves, except Winston who is a beautiful lunatic and should stay that way. Ryan is so perfect for Jess and I love their relationship. I kind of wish that he could be endgame instead of Nick.
I can't really speak for the Mindy Project since it's one of those shows that I like but don't love. Overall, I thought season 2 was pretty good and season 3 is getting good reviews, so I should check it out.
Do you know when the rest of Hart of Dixie is going to premiere?
Are there any shows you think have gotten worse this year?

    ReplyDelete
  162. Not at all. Some of my favorite things started with very low expectations. In fact, I think the lower people's expectations are, the more they are bound to enjoy something.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Disagree about reign. I tuned out after Mary/Bash started because I was sick of love triangles, but tuned back in because I heard the triangle was done for good, only to find out they replaced it with a worse love triangle mary/francis/conde. If you are turned off by love triangles, you should definitely continue to stay away from reign. The show has about three going on right now.

  164. thank you :)

  165. I watch five shows from that list and I can only agree on Once Upon a Time and maybe Revenge. After the disastrous second season of OUAT, it could only improve, lol. And this season with Frozen I have been enjoying it very much.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Every episode in season 2 was good. Can't wait for season 2 , as well. Vera, Freddie and Max are great actors. So excited to see them. :)

  167. in general i dislike but had really good ep like ariel save henry and 2 others 10 and 11 thats i forgot the name of ep

    ReplyDelete
  168. Arrow for me ! I was a little disappointed by the first episodes of season 1 but the quality improved in the middle of the season . I'm glad for not having stopped to watch it .

    ReplyDelete
  169. Agree on Arrow, SHIELD & Grimm. Not so much on OUAT though cause for all the improvement that took place in Season 3 (mainly due to an accomplished part 3B with the Wicked Witch), the writers have taken a step back with Season 4. This is not 'Frozen's fault though as the new characters introduced were interesting and well played, especially Elsa, Anna & Sven. The problem laid with lack of tight writing, half-baked plots (it's like their children wrote the script) & poorly realized character development...I have absolutely no idea what they are doing with Rumple or Hook. Only plus was seeing Belle kick Rumple out & the Charmings at each others throats under the curse!

  170. I don't think Doctor Who or Nu-Who (the new series since 2005) has ever been bad for it to require improvement, but Seasons 3-7 were outstanding. Since then it has been more inconsistent with outstanding episodes mixed in with some very ordinary stuff. Overall though this year was a touch darker than any before and had some truly great moments capped off by that sensationnal 50th Anniversary special "The Day of the Doctor".

    ReplyDelete
  171. It's been a while since this was posted, but I felt like saying Thank You for getting me interested in OuaT again. I stopped watching at the beginning of season one I think, after I could hardly get through all of season 2. Reading this got me interested in watching it again for the first time in many months, because if it really does get better again, then I truly do want to know how the story goes on, I think. So thanks for that ;)
And to answer you question: I'll have to go with Reign and Revenge.
Though I think the main problem with Revenge is that it's nearly impossible to get interested in giving it a second chance when just casually switching through channels and catching some minutes of a new episode, because without knowing ALL of the backstories from the past seasons, you'd get totally lost.
