Hey All,
Most mainstream entertainment sites who produce their yearly "Best Shows" lists do so normally based on the opinions of just 1 person at that outlet. Here at SpoilerTV we like to do things a little differently.
Seeing as we have over 70+ Team Members we decided to ask them all to go through the 220+ shows that we cover and for them to Rank their Top 10 (Note: It's a LOT harder than it seems!)
Out of the 220+ Shows, over 120 unique shows were selected by at least 1 member of the team in their Top 10. This gives you some idea of how diverse the team is.
We then collated all their results to produce our table that you can see below in our SpoilerTV Top 20 Shows of the Year.
For those interested here is the full table.

ReplyDeleteInteresting results, some suprising and some not really. I think the top 20 is a but right, a good reflection of quality. The only show I would have liked to have seen higher is Reign but I appreciate that while I have enjoyed the show it really isnt everyones cup of tea. I would also have placed SPN much lower as its writing at times as been down right apalling even if its fanbase is one of the most loyal. Really its good to see shows werent just ranked based on the number of fangirls/fanboys voting regardless of quality.

ReplyDeletePretty great list. I watch all shows in there except True Detective (already on my watch list), Fargo, Orange is the New Black, Outlander (which is a high priority on my watch list), Sherlock and Parks and Recreation.
ReplyDeleteI am surprised that shows like The Americans or Parks and Recreation made it though.
If you like the flash, I highly recommend Arrow. In fact I watch all the shows you've mentioned (they are all some of my favorites) and I think you will certainly love Arrow if you try it out.

ReplyDeleteThe top 10 I put in for this list were (in alphabetical order, not in order of rank) - Arrow, Dallas, Game of Thrones, How to Get Away With Murder, Once Upon a Time, Revenge, Scandal, The Flash, The Walking Dead and Witches of East End. This was definitely a hard picking as I have watched about 70 television shows that aired this year.

ReplyDeleteBTW - why was Psych not even an option for your staff? The Librarians was on there with 1 whole episode.
My top 10 shows (in no particular order): Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Arrow, Flash, How to Get Away with Murder, Scandal, Grey's Anatomy, The Blacklist, Revenge, and the Big Bang Theory.

Well, it is always difficult to rate the shows you love, but I'd say something like (I only mention those I actually watch)
ReplyDelete1. Person of Interest (strong as ever, best thing if you like good stories and "mild" Sci-Fi!)
2. Game of Thrones (just massive, I love it (but the books are better))
3. House of Cards (Oh, it's just great)
4. Orphan Black (very intense, high quality)
5. Continuum (not perfect, but pretty good Sci-Fi)
6. Arrow (has been a little disappointing for a while)
7. Sleepy Hollow (Strong 1st season, 1st half of S2 disappointing)
8. Defiance (Not my favorite, but I like to batch watch the episodes)
9.The Blacklist (I watch it, but it has its weaknesses)
10. Supernatural (still watching, but imo it's dropping more and more from what it once was)
I plan to start watching more, but this is all I'm currently watching. Person of Interest is clearly my number 1 - starts out unimposing (with mostly self-contained episodes in S1) but quite enjoyable, then gets one of the best thing on TV. So check it out, if you haven't already.

4 shows from my list were canceled ;(. I did this from the top of my head, so probably not all of the shows are my favorites right now, but they had a special place in my 2014 . I have yet to catch up on the new seasons of GoT, Homeland and TWD, but they would probably be here.

ReplyDeleteTD and GOT were in my top two too, but then my love for Hannibal went to number three (but in all fairness I have not seen more than an episode of Banshee and none of TWD)
ReplyDeleteIt should be seen as a bit of fun, of course. But as it says in the article, the big news sites (e.g. TVLine, TVGuide, EW, Deadline, E!Online etc.) compile these lists based on the opinion on one or perhaps a few persons, while the SpoilerTV team consists of 70+ people.
ReplyDeleteAnd of course there is always room for different opinions ;) I only watch four out of the top 10 shows as well but I have no doubt the other shows are just as good or better than these four. Out of curiosity, what would your top 10 look like and which 3-4 shows from the above list would you include?
Well I think everyone has different tastes and we don't all watch all of the same shows. It's meant to just be a fun consensus to see how many of us chose the same shows. I never begrudge anyone a show just because I haven't seen it, don't like it, or don't think I would like it, because surely there are shows I love, that others do not. What are your favorite shows or the shows you think should of been picked? :)

POI got top spot easily. From there on it was the hardest thing ever. Hate ranking 24 so low. Only thing that got The Blacklist on my list is Spader; Gotham because of Robin Lord Taylor. So glad Homeland's been so good.

So, my list is a bit lacking because I don't watch a lot of cable shows.
There are shows that I need to get caught up with, so I didn't include them (Orphan Black, Sleepy Hollow, Revenge); others that I have yet to see (The blacklist, Outlander, House of Cards, etc..); some that I feel I still need to see more of, for me to consider them among my favorites (Forever, The Originals, Gotham); and lastly some that while I still enjoy I no longer consider them to be in their prime (Hart of Dixie, Supernatural,The vampire diaries, Scandal, OUaT, Pretty Little Liars).
I'm sure I still missed a lot.
Not every show is for every person so its hard to know if you would like (or love) TWD or Banshee...
ReplyDeleteI do appreciate Hannibal as well, but I can never quite get to the point of truly liking it for some reason. I guess maybe it is too stylized for me.

The first four were pretty easy picks, the 4 shows I look forward to every week and are constantly amazing. The Flash is my favorite new show this season, with Scorpion not far behind. I enjoy NCIS: Los Angeles the most out of all three NCIS's. It was between Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods for the 9th position, but Hawaii Five-0 got the edge because I enjoyed it much much more.
I am with you buddy. Mom is a very underrated, awesome comedy.

Best? I don't know. But these were the most entertaining/gripping/must-watch shows this year for me. The top four are in order – those are the ones I always watched the night of, if possible. The numbering for the rest is pretty much arbitrary.

ReplyDeleteAlso I believe psych should belong in the full table list this show was the number one show in usa network also It has done amazing epiosdes such as their 100th episode of Clue,Psych The Musical, and they even redid one of their own episodes that could have been better and made it better it has made people laugh and cry but most laugh till it hurts I personally feel like you guys made an error by not including it on your list psych is one of the best show out there and it has a huge fan base plus the show got up to 8 season I was sad to see it go but glad it went on for so long all I am saying is psych deserves to be on that list for being so awesome,fantastic,amazing,& astoundis
