We have a new Rebekah among us! Tell us about the latest Originals body swap.
Michael Narducci: Well it's definitely not a new character in any way. It definitely is the Rebekah who we know and love who has been off raising hope for the past several months. Because of the events of this episode, what happens is she is tricked and trapped and she finds herself in a different body. We’ve seen what it's like for Finn and Kol to be in a different body and now we're going to see what it's like for Rebekah too.
What is it about actress Maisie Richardson-Sellers that made her the perfect choice to play Rebekah?
MN: She's such a phenomenal presence. I mean right from her first audition you really see an incredibly strong sparkle and there's a great beauty — not only with physical beauty but there's a great inner beauty — that comes up in her performance. There's also just this incredible strength. When I think of Rebekah, I think of a character who for a thousand years has gone toe-to-toe with two of the most dangerous and strong creature in existence: Klaus and Elijah. There's a great power there and Claire effortlessly brings that power to the role and if we were going to have another actress take on that role, it was definitely something that we needed to have. We looked at a lot of different people and held a lot of different auditions and there are a lot of really great actors but we all unanimously thought that Maisie was just such a great addition to our show and perfect in every way to play this part, which is kind of a sacred part.
How long have you known that you wanted to swap Rebekah out of her body?
MN: This is one of our most beloved characters and we knew pretty early on that we were bringing back Finn and Kol through Esther, who hates vampires and she wouldn’t bring them back in their original bodies. So we knew that the body-swapping storyline would be a big part of the season so we also knew that inevitably, in order of Esther's plan to have a true threat, somebody would have to get swapped.

TVLINE | So, what’s next for Rebekah?
Putting Rebekah into another body is a great instance of “be careful what you wish for.” Now that she’s no longer in her original immortal body — that strong, fast body that can endure anything — she’s just a mortal witch. She’s got a whole new set of powers, but she’s not immortal anymore. If she’s stabbed or killed, will that be the end of Rebekah? And will this Faustian deal be worth it to her? That’s one of the things we really want to explore.
TVLINE | Does this mean we won’t be seeing Claire Holt as Rebekah anymore?
The great thing about our show is that we have a built-in engine. We’ve seen Kol in a new body, for example, but we also still get to see Nathan Buzolic quite a bit in flashbacks. There are plenty of flashbacks to explore what Rebekah has been doing for the past 1,000 years.
TVLINE | But is the body swap permanent?
This isn’t necessarily a permanent change. It’s not like something is going to happen to Rebekah’s original body, or that once she makes this change, she can’t go back — unlike Kol and Finn, whose original bodies were destroyed. Rebekah’s body will continue to exist, so there are many different story opportunities for us to explore.

to all those wanted Nathaniel and Casper to come back they can't their bodies are destroyed unlike Rebekah's which is why i think wholeheartedly that Claire Holt WILL come back
ReplyDeleteI didnt know Finn and Kol's original bodies were destroyed. Esther really knows how to play her cards
ReplyDeleteThis is the only thing that I did not like and that was swapping her body, I want Claire holt only
ReplyDeleteI get the desicion, but still its tough to imagine anyone otger than CH playing Bekah.
ReplyDeleteBlah blah blah, the only "perfect character" for Rebekah is Claire Holt. You can't really compare the original Finn to this Finn, b/c noboday gave two shits about the original Finn, and this Finn actually seems to be having fans (and let's face it, is a better Finn character anyway.) I didn't care too much for original Kol/Nathan. But a lot loved him, and even though his body was destroyed, he's still in flashbacks, so everyone's all happy go lucky. Rebekah/Claire totally different case, her body isn't destroyed, nobody wants to see her in flashbacks, they/we want to see her in real time where she belongs. She's the fans' fav original, (besides Elijah) no one can replace her. Hell, let's put Elijah/Daniel is someone else's body then, since you guys are so hell bent on body swapping. Oh wait you can't b/c Elijah/Daniel is a gold mine, like Rebekah/Claire is. Geez what's the sense of keeping "The Originals," when you can't/won't keep The Originals. (rolls eyes)
ReplyDeleteKol and Finn's bodies were destroyed when they died originally therefore she had no choice (not sticking up for Esther) but to bring them back in new bodies.
ReplyDeleteMatt killed Finn with the WOS. and Elena and Jeremy (but at the end Jeremy) killed Kol with it. When an original is killed with it, their bodies instantly burn up in flames. Esther had nothing to do with their deaths...not really.
ReplyDeleteYeah. I forgot that they both were killed in VD. But now while Rebekah's original body is still intact, the vampires she has created wont die right?
ReplyDeleteFair point, but I'm pretty sure Claire has to film for Aquarius. Even then she left the show before. And 2 of the 3 Originals mains are here. And Finn is a regular now. So yeah. It'll be resolved by the finale at the latest probably earlier.
ReplyDeleteClire clearly do not want to be in TO anymore, so we should be happy they at least found a way to keep Rebekah. Claire is Series Regular in Aquarius now + she might be leading in Super Girl. Yes, i agree nobody will be ever as good as Claire in role of Rebekah, but i have to admit even from a few seconds we saw, new Rebekah seems pretty good too. And i really like we have all 5 siblings together again :) + Freya will probably come soon too
ReplyDeleteLook, it's really this simple: Claire Holt has left The Originals as a regular, will not be able to recur if she's the lead in another show (which looks like it might be the case) and the choice fans will have to make is accept the character in another body played by another actress, the character written off for good or killed.
ReplyDeleteI mean, this isn't strictly true either.
ReplyDeleteTVD has established that when brought back from the other side (which Kol and Finn were), you can be brought back in a new version of your body no matter what happened to your old one. Jeremy's body was burned in Season 4, and Elena and Damon's bodies were blown to hell in the Season 5 finale, and they were all brought back normally.
no finn and kol's bodies are destroyed fully and totally
ReplyDeletethey didn't come through Bonnie so they don't have bodies to come back to
ReplyDeleteMikaels body was burnt and Davina brought him back.
ReplyDeleteExactly. I mean, it was pretty much a given that if the character of Rebekah was to come back on the show as a regular, she would have to get a new body, and thus a new actress. I like the character of Rebekah too much to have her only appear when Claire Holt feels like it and it fits with her schedule, so even if it's gonna be weird seeing someone else play her, I'm gonna give it a chance and hope that the new actress can pull it off.
ReplyDeletewell Klaus' body was also destroyed/burnt in TVD 3x22 but he had no problem coming back as JoMo LOL
ReplyDeletethere's literally nothing that still makes sense about The Originals or TVD for that matter
Narducci already said that it's possible for them to come back, he seems to go against his own words in this interview but there's certainly potential.
ReplyDeleteHate the idea of Claire Holt not being Rebekah anymore, and that she left in the first place, which I think was Julie´s idea, not Claire´s, they have ruined a character that had lots of potencial, much more than Hayley, and the best character the series had.
ReplyDeleteMikael body was also destroyed... and Davina bring him back.... but now Esther is a vampire.. almost. so what about the bodyswap?
ReplyDeleteKol's body was crispy but there was still a body left over, he wasn't reduced to ash. I remember watching the ep and feeling horrible for Klaus when he stuck staring at it after Bonnie locked him in the Gilberts living room. Not that I blame her since he was about to tear Elena and Jeremy apart for killing his brother at the time of course!
ReplyDeleteMainly sounds like a way to keep "Rebekah" on the show even though Claire may not be able to stay around as much or eventually at all because of a better job offer, which I don't blame her. I want only good things for her. :D
ReplyDeleteYup. I am sure once the "magic" was destroyed that kept his body in one piece by the white oak stake, Klaus made for damn sure that nothing was left but ash.
ReplyDeleteSo what? she has another project to film therefore she can never return? That's a bunch of bull. Actors/actresses are ALWAYS doing other projects while still series regulars on w/e show their on. So that excuse doesn't fly. She wanted to leave obviously, it's as simple as that. There was absolutely no reason to take her out other than that. She could've easily stayed til freaking season 4.
ReplyDeleteThat didn't help at all, sorry. Thanks for trying though.
ReplyDeleteNo, I'm saying she couldn't do a longer return. Yeah it's rare, and it all depends on shooting schedule (and I'm sure Aquarius is hooting right now). She'll be back before the season is done. She couldn't have easily stayed a) regular on a different show and b) she left in season 1).
ReplyDeleteRebekah doesn't have any characters from TVD, that she's created. (Nor have they shown she created any in TO) None are from her line, only Klaus's. so no they wouldn't. And she's not dead, so that's another no.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're right. Long sigh.
ReplyDeleteSo do I.
ReplyDeleteI've only read that it was Claire herself who didn't want to be a regular anymore, perhaps that's BS, or perhaps it was 100% her own choice, we'll probably never know the whole truth. What we do know is that having Rebekah played by Claire Holt as a regular is not an option, so the options are to either have her in flashbacks played by Claire, or as a regular with a new actress. I like Rebekah enough to want to see her character around even if it means being played by someone other than Claire. I just hope that the new actress can pull it off.
ReplyDeleteit stopped burning when they closed the coffin
ReplyDeleteyeah she did didn't she i think because he was breaking through the real world already and finn and kol couldn't
ReplyDeleteI´m sure that it was JP´s decision and Claire had to shut up and let it be, she loved TO, her twitter icon is a photo of Rebekah, she´s said she loves playing Rebekah, but JP knew that Rebekah was way more important than Hayley and she wanted Hayley more so she kicked Rebekah so that Hayley would become more important, at least that´s what I think.
ReplyDeleteI know that JP has a tendency to get rid of quite beloved characters (especially in TVD) just for shock factor, but I also remember reading Claire stating that when she signed on to play Rebekah she didn't expect to be around for very long, let alone become a regular in a spinoff, so I'm not sure of anything.
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree, I have a feeling the creators had to write this storyline out of necessity. They wanted to use Rebekah's character, but obviously Claire was unavailable (she's a regular in Aquarius and if the rumours are to be believed she'll be the main character in Supergirl) so they created this storyline to still use the character, without using Claire.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that Rebekah's body is still unharmed confirms this isn't permanent. Claire Holt will eventually return to play Rebekah. But until Claire's available, she'll be played by this new girl.
I'm over it now. It's w/e. they'll keep pulling this crap til the series finale. smh. It's still disappointing, but w/e. And as for her being Supergirl, i don't see it. I'm the minority on that one, i think they're still sifting through options.
ReplyDeleteKlaus body was burned the same way Kol and Finn was from Alaric.
ReplyDeleteHow bout a 1yr baby vamp [Elena] holding down a 1000yr vamp to be staked was a backfire to the writers all behind the hunters mark for the cure nobody wanted to take but Rebekah and Silas, Silas saga weaken TVD with a unnecessary Kol death. O' Klaus body was burned the same way from Alaric
ReplyDeleteEster is from her line now. That's something to consider, if destroying the body destroys the line.
ReplyDeletei dont think so mate....
