  1. An Aramis episode ftw! Plus more murder from Rochefort...well it wouldn't be a Musketeers episode without it really would it, lol

  2. He certainly seems to hold a grudge against EVERYONE he meets (except for the Queen maybe...). :D

    ReplyDelete
  3. He's one bundle of anger and resentment alright! XD

    ReplyDelete
  4. An Aramis centric episode? Yes,please! :)

    ReplyDelete
  5. Is the threat of war with Spain going to be ever present in S2?

    ReplyDelete
  6. I guess so, the Thirty Year war was getting fairly tense at the time and the French territories were smack bang in the middle of the warring nations. Since Louis' father converted back to Catholicism the country wasn't very stable again and it was only really a matter of time before they would have to pick a side really. Histrionically it didn't happen for another few years, 1635, but they may bring it forwards a bit. The lead up to it will no doubt have many skirmishes on the boarders even if they do stick to history I guess. Religious wars are a bit of a mess :(

    ReplyDelete
  7. Cheers.. :)
I've said before that I know very little about French history..

    ReplyDelete
  8. No worries. I probably know far too much truth be told, just let me know if I go on too much, lol

    ReplyDelete
  9. Sounds like another strong episode. Love the idea of an Aramis led storyline and a nice nod to his religious leanings.πŸ˜„ Rochefort certainly seems to be slicing and dicing his way through the series!

  10. Interestingly, BBC First (Australia) still have this episode in their TV schedule for Sunday 25th at 2030, so looks like they may get to see the episode before us, which would also put them a week ahead of the UK. However, I guess BBC First may still move this episode to the following week, so that it is viewed after the UK.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Interesting. I wish there was some sort of official announcement about what the heck is going on tbh!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Violent anti Spanish riots sounds interesting. I wonder if the Queen might be a target for some of this violence. It might be interesting if Anne and/or Constance got caught up in events.

    ReplyDelete
  13. It looks like they have now changed their programming too, something called You, Me & Them is on instead.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Ah, thank goodness for that! Thanks Sandi :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. Thanks for the photos Sandi! They're very intriguing promotional photos. Looks like we're finally going to get more interaction between Athos and Milady! Also, looks like Anne and Constance are in commoners dress - are they going undercover? Constance looks like she is protecting Anne in one of those photos too. Then, there's Milady and Rochefort. This looks like it is going to be a superb episode - I can't wait!

  16. Hello Sandi :) This site is cheering me up a lot these days so, I just wanted to say thank you. I know you've seen this episode already, and apparently it is an Aramis centric episode. You said (if I recall correctly) that it was surprising. In a good way ?

    ReplyDelete
  17. I am kind of hoping that Milady double-crosses Rochefort by pretending that she's on his side but actually helping or passing information on to the Athos/the Musketeers. I think she truly loves Athos and will always love him - perhaps, there could be some redemption for her if she did this!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Looks like you were right Scoobie with Anne and Constance getting caught up in the events. :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. I spy Constance's dark cloak that she's wearing in one of Jessica's Constagnan teaser pics, as well as the reddish-lit room.....

That aside, there's a lot of interesting stuff going on in episode 4.

I am so looking forward to this episode... Aramis' one!! There could be something between Anne and Aramis.. I mean... they could meet there... It seems that Anne and Constance are on the same place like Aramis and Constance would find out that Anne had got an affair with Aramis :3

Sorry for the mistakes, I am a beginner :D

    ReplyDelete
  22. Aw I'd like to see something like this happen! A double-crossing Milady would be intersting and fun to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yes! Some Athos/Milady stills at last, can't believe we'll have to wait until ep.4 to see them interacting though.

Also I wonder what Constance and Anne (all by themselves?) are doing in the forest.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I wonder about her attire though? Perhaps Rochefort might suggest that the Queen leave Paris incognito to avoid the disturbances and becoming a target because of her Spanish birth. He may offer the protection of the Red Guards in doing so but something clearly goes very wrong. Leaving the Queen and Constance exposed. Nice parallel as Constance steps forward to protect the Queen, in the same way that D'Artagnan did for the King last week. Clearly the Red Guards must approach D'Artagnan whether to seek his help, or lure him into a trap. Never mind the Queen, he'd kick some serious butt to get his Constance back safely.

    ReplyDelete
  25. No need for apologies here. You're among friends.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Athos/Milady interaction! Excited to see what that will entail. It looks like Milady is making her rounds amongst all the characters on this show, first Louis, now we will see her with Athos and Rochefort. I wonder what she is up to... can't wait to see where her arc is going.

    ReplyDelete
  27. LuckyNumberSLVN it's been ages! Hope all's well with you. Great to have you back.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm so excited, I can't wait!! Hope we'll see more Milady (and more Athos/Milady hehe) this season.

    Thank you :3

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thanks for the update Sandi. Intriguing pics as usual. Charles Venn looks amazing as does Emma Lowndes. Very Joan of Arc. Oh poor Athos. The viper has found her prey once again. Milady and Rochefort, now there's a lethal combination. Milady is a calculating, scheming creature but Rochefort is something all together different. He's a madman and his wider agenda may make even Milady pause.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hey hun, like your new pic! I wouldn't say they're centric like last years were, but characters are explored a bit more than others still in some episodes. I really enjoyed this one, it's a really strong episode :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Her attire is very strange indeed - it's almost like the writers are doing a parallel with the Queen/Constance and King/d'Artagnan in last week's episode. I wonder if we'll get to see any of Constance's sword skills in this episode! It's interesting about d'Artagnan and the Red Guards. He looks like he is separate to the other 3, so I wonder whether he's the first Musketeer on Rochefort's hit list. I wish that football wasn't on next week - not sure I can wait a whole week for this! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  34. It does seem like D'artagnan is separated from the others for a while and I didn't realise they were Red Guards to begin with....

I'm fairly convinced that Jessica's teaser pic of Constagnan looking quite cosy in a reddish room is from this episode, though less sure about Jessica's other pic because of Constance's different dress.

I've got no idea what Milady will be getting up to for the rest of the series.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Glad you enjoyed this one Sandi - always feel reassured when you say it's a strong episode. :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think there's a very real chance that this is exactly what will eventually happen. Milady would do many things, with and to many people, as we know, but I think when she realises Rochefort's true agenda, it may be a bridge too far for her to cross. That may prompt her to approach the Musketeers.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I didn't realise either that they were Red Guards until Scoobie mentioned it. :)

Think I might have missed that pic from Jessica with her in the reddish room - is it on the filming thread? I'll have to go back and take a look!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I hope so - I would like her character to redeem herself in some way, although the Musketeers and co will never be able to truly trust or forgive her for her past wrongdoings.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I fear although that if this did happen, that Rochefort may be too clever for her double-crossing, especially if he's already aware of her history with Athos. It may not turn out to well for her in the end. :(

    ReplyDelete
  40. Maybe Anne and Constance wants meet Emilie and ask something about her visions.

    ReplyDelete
  41. What I'm curious about is why they might approach him and not one of the others? Obviously Aramis is off dealing with Emilie of Duras but Athos and Porthos are still on the scene. I'm certain that Rochefort has now figured out Constance's partiality for her Musketeer. Perhaps something happens in this week's episode to reinforce his suspicions. He's clearly looking to destroy them, one by one if necessary. Perhaps he sees his opportunity. Alternatively if the Red Guards have screwed up while trying to protect the Queen, they too may be terrified of Rochefort's wrath and may seek some help to retrieve the situation. Athos and D'Artagnan both seem to be occupied by their individual passions in week four. Milady and Constance. To an extent Aramis is too with his religious and spritual beliefs. It could be an episode about what and who you believe in and how far you'd go to defend that belief.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I guess it's possible that Rochefort may have seen something in this episode to make him more suspicious of d'Artagnan and Constance. Maybe, he will use this to blackmail him or even worse. I am also wondering about the letter that Treville is holding in the pic with d'Artagnan. Is Treville giving him this letter or has d'Artagnan brought it to him?

    ReplyDelete
  43. I hope Rochefort isn't going to kill off Perales - I've really enjoyed his character so far. :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. It could be that in this Friday's episode he observes something that heightens his suspicions. It's hard to tell about the letter. Treville could have received it from D'Artagnan, or as you say, could be passing it to him. It appears that Constance and Anne are being detained against their will. If that's the case, it could be a demand of some kind. I'm trying to remember if it was ever revealed who Charles Venn was playing, other than "Raymond"? There really is a lot to speculate about this time which is great and with Sandi saying that she thinks this is a strong episode, I can't wait to see it play out.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I hope Rochefort isn't going to kill off Perales - I've really enjoyed his character so far. Love the accent! :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. You could be right about the letter being a demand of some sort. Not sure about Charles Venn's character - may have to have a look on the web to see if there is anything further. There is definitely loads to speculate about - maybe we needed that extra week for that ;)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Like Helen, I like when you enjoy an episode, especially when it's an important one for Aramis :) I changed my picture, but that doesn't mean Aramis is not my favorite anymore he he, it's just that I feel like the writers have given a lot more to do to Anne, and I'm glad for it. I can't wait to see ep 3 AND 4 now. I felt like there wasn't enough Aramis, Porthos and Athos in the fisrt two, even though I love D'Artagnan ^^ And I'm still really intrigued by evil Rochefort, especially that scene with the prostitute dressed as the Queen. Weirdo alert ! lol

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hey Scoobie ! It's great to be back, I missed our little speculation contests ^^ and this site and its people are always cheering me up ;)

    ReplyDelete
  49. On your marks...get set...SPECULATE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I am hoping for some constagnan moments too! I think this was the one sandi said would have more though so I'm optimistic!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Oh, I'm very optimistic that this one will have much to love....

    ReplyDelete
  52. hey Sandi, have they released the name of the episode ?
Can't wait for the episode :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. You've hit upon my only real criticism of the season so far, that the Musketeers aren't as fore front as I would like them to be. It does kind of feel as though they aren't the leads in the show in some ways as the cast is so large at present. It makes me wonder how many will survive the season?

    ReplyDelete
  54. I wonder if Rochefort finds out about Athos & Milady at some point? I'm assuming he will because his handshake with Athos in episode 1 might be significant further down the line. All in all, Rochefort has got reasons to target each Musketeer in turn - Athos=Milady, Aramis=Anne & the baby and d'Artagnan=Constance - with only Porthos without a direct link to Rochefort at the moment..

Also, to make up for the lack of this episode next week, we should still get a basic synopsis for episode 5 from the BBC Media Centre.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Of course at the moment, Rochefort doesn't seem to know anything about Aramis and the baby, so will the Cardinall ( from the grave ) inform him or perhaps Marguerite?

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm also wondering whether the Queen's letter to Spain might come into play here. Rochefort did say that he'd hold on to it until it became useful to him. Maybe that time is now and possibly the letter we see Treville with, is it.

    ReplyDelete
  57. That is possible - I guess they may have found out about the letter from Constance...but surely she would have assumed he'd already sent it. I'm interested to see how much information Constance will pass on to d'Artagnan from the Queen, as she said to Rochefort that the Queen's affairs were her own and that she wouldn't share them with another party, or something along those lines.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I would like to know if Aramis and Anne meet too.
Hi everyone.....I've been lurking for a few weeks and I just wanted to say hello and thank Sandi for the updates and pictures. It's definitely appreciated. Sandi....I know you can't give anything away but will Anne and Aramis at least cross paths in this episode? Also, I'm very excited for the Athos/Milady scenes.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I'm guessing is Marguerite. Maybe she was cardinal spy.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I think he'll know at some point about the story behind milady and athos or the fact that milady tried to kill them if she works with him.

Beside in the first trailer you can see milady said "what is it you want?" I think she talks with rocheford and he replied "I want the musketeers dead". So if it's right I think he'll know something about milady to protect his back if she helps the musketeers (maybe) and betray him.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Mmh, i think that Rochefort will easily catch Anne and Aramis eye contact or something like that (i assume that sooner or later they will have to talk with each other), and start to suspect of them. So he will start to investigate and find the suspicious priest of the premiere who will tell him something. (Or the priest can simply go to Rochefort on his own.) In both cases, when Rochefort will start to suspect of Aramis being involved with the Queen, Marguerite will become a pawn in his plan.

By the way, i'm new, nice to meet you all. xD

    ReplyDelete
  62. Hi Celiana, I saw you in the review thread for the first episode last week but didn't get a chance to welcome you to the site, good to see you :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. They haven't as yet I'm afraid, I'm guessing that due to the week's delay though :(

    ReplyDelete
  64. Lol yeah, I thought she looked very Joan of Arc too in her costume.

    ReplyDelete
  65. oh okay , thanks for the information. With the week's delay it seems a little confusing.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Last year we were only finding out the week before it aired what the titles were. I think due to the holidays this year we got the first few early, then due to this week off it just feels like it's taking forever to find out, lol

    ReplyDelete
  67. Thank you Sandi! :)

    ReplyDelete
  68. You could very well be right about the Constagnan teaser pics but I'm torn on this one. Her hair is wrong for either photo, as is the jewellery. I also think the cloak she's wearing as she looks at D'Artagnan in Jessica's pic, seems to be a dark, possibly velvet cloak, rather than the more informal stripped woollen one she's wearing in the episode four images. I don't know, but I have a feeling that Jessica's pics are from episode six. Which I think will involve a siege at an Inn/Tavern. Whether Constagnan are there for a rendezvous or find themselves thrown together through circumstances (a commission from the Queen perhaps) remains to be seen. Six will also be the episode centred in one location which should certainly make it intense.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Ignore my ramblings Tigercheetah. From the glimpse of the promo you nailed it!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Since the episode doesn't air until a fortnight will we also have to wait a week for the second trailer and sneak peek? And will you be posting the advanced review and word teasers in the upcoming week or the following, sandi? I dont remember what we did last year when the baftas interrupted an episode so I'm no use!

    ReplyDelete
  71. I'm going to do a hangman this week. Justyna and I discussed doing a set of 'Best of' polls for S1, but we've both been a bit run off our feet this last week, so we'll have to see what we can fit in.

    ReplyDelete
  72. will we have the advanced review next week. In trailer i saw bishop and Rochefort.talking .

    ReplyDelete
  73. So just to prepare us a little since we have to wait two weeks: do you think we're going to like this one better than we did the complete clusterf**k that was last night? Just wanna know if I need to prepare for the worst or can actually be hopeful for once, I don't even WANT details...lol ;)

    ReplyDelete
  74. I want to know this too!
I'm hoping for an actual conversation between Aramis and Queen Anne.
Also, I really miss the light hearted moments between the Musketeers.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I have a feeling it's probably Emilie of Duras that he's referring to Zuzana.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I wonder if Emilie may be being manipulated and that her visions are in fact drug induced, perhaps by hallucinogens? In the promo Constance looks like she's either waking from a nightmare, or that she herself may have had one of these "visions". Perhaps of her own demise, or that of D'Artagnan.

    ReplyDelete
  77. That is very possible - I didn't know what to make of Constance in that promo but that would make sense of it!

    ReplyDelete
  78. I hope the queen and aramis finally talk as well as dartagnan and constance since she has been avoiding the issues between them and seeing they r no where near their idiot husbands and I bet u any thing the one who had rochefort in detention in Spain was the cardinal to keep him away from Anne

    ReplyDelete
  79. I think Constagnan's near kiss is going to end one of two ways, either
    a) they're interrupted by someone or something else or
    b) Constance suddenly remembers herself and the fact that she's meant to be staying away from d'Artagnan, at least romantically.
I do hope though that episode 4 sees the start of their sexual tension building again and just being together as friends.
I'm expecting Margerite's true nature to become more obvious in the next few episodes as well, as well as see more of the Aramis / Anne relationship, though possibly not in a romantic way.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I'm kind of hoping that it's an interruption and not a sudden attack of conscience on Constance's part. It's clear in the clip that she's moving in towards him for a kiss. They need to be very careful that she doesn't start coming across negatively to the audience. Her character hasn't really played well with many of the fans, so far this series and she's borderline unrecognisable to the Constance we all loved in series one. If she starts emotionally manipulating him, it won't be well received. I have a feeling that this episode could be pivotal for Constagnan, in that I think some decisions will be made. Whether they'll be acted upon is another matter but I have a feeling that this will be the point at which it will become clear that it's not over for these two, by a long way and I think it's very possible that Constance will decide that she wants to be with D'Artagnan. How is another matter.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I was searching "Rotten Tomatoes" and it has this episode listed as "Emilie".....is that the title of episode 4? http://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/the-musketeers/s02/e04/

    ReplyDelete
  82. Cheers Lucy. I just checked the BBC and they haven't announced it yet, but the RT have it as that too, and they are usually right, so I'm gonna go with it, lol. I'll edit the post :)

No, not a very revealing title XD

    ReplyDelete
  83. For some reason I'm getting a Joan of Arc type vibe from Emilie!! Can't believe there is a break this week, ruddy football :-( let's hope it builds up our anticipation for the 30th and that we get a rip roaring adventure for our patience eh?

    ReplyDelete
  84. Welcome ot the site Sonia :)

I don't think the Cardinal would have had any power in Spain in order to have Rochefort made a prisoner there, he wasn't very liked by the Spanish historically. He may well have not paid up any ransom I guess so that he stayed there. But as Rochefort was well known as one of his best spies I imagine that the Spanish would have been reluctant to let him go anyway. That's one of the reasons why he was tortured so intensely that his shoulder was the mess it was in when we saw it during the first episode.

I think the Spanish broke him mentally, he wasn't like this before he was caught. He was obviously a bad man if he was so well liked by the Cardinal, but I don't think that he was insane until he was routinely tortured and went through the many mock hangings. I'm not sure the Spanish realise how far they pushed him though, which is will ultimately furbar their plans imo. lol.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Aramis will probably end up championing her

    ReplyDelete
  86. Any chance that if we get the hangman early, we could get a little spoilery treat, or another hangman? I remember you doing that last year and it was fun...and very motivational.:)

I'll get the hangman set up tonight or tomorrow too, depends on if I get any time this evening before I head off. Then I will try and get another hangman in the preview for next week too :)

  89. Who is smarter milady or Rochefort.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Milady because she has not lost her marbles as it seems Rochefort has

    ReplyDelete
  91. yes, i think you right Last season milady had obsesion with Athos, now she move on. In trailer she said that past is dead.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Not sure where to post this, but Luke has posted on his Twitter account that he and the other Musketeers (not sure about Tom) and Maimie will be at The Apple Store on Regent Street this coming Wednesday 21st Jan. Unfortunately, I can't make it but thought I'd post in case anyone is interested in going. :)

    ReplyDelete
  93. in Jessica Pope twitter are new photos, Aramis treville porthos and D’Artagnan.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Which just proves again that I have the worst timing in the world, cause I'll be there NEXT week. I hate my life sometimes. (Assuming Tom is already off filming War & Peace? There were supposed to start in January)

    ReplyDelete
  95. Ah, I forgot they had started filming that! That explains why Tom won't be there. Sorry you can't make it either. :( Hopefully someone will be able to on here.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Cheers for the heads up! I love how's she's made up a narrative about the match bumping the episode!

  98. The Radio Times are continuing to get behind the series, as this episode is 'Pick of the Day' again for Friday 30th. It's a good write up which backs up the theory of Anne going on an undercover mission. Ed Stoppard is listed on the cast list again, so looks like our wishes came true and he will reappear. :)

    ReplyDelete
  99. Can you post the link to the article? Thanks for the info!!!

  100. Hi Lucy, unfortunately it wasn't online that I read this, as it is in the paper copy. However, I noticed that the wonderful Ryan Gage retweeted this on Twitter earlier. :) https://twitter.com/lymecat/status/557517726768709632

  101. This is what What's on TV says:

Calling all Aramis fans – this episode is
just for you! Tonight the romantic musketeer is up on his high horse
(literally and metaphorically) when a so-called prophet, Emilie (Emma
Lowndes, Downton Abbey's Mrs Drewe), tries to incite the French to wage
war on Spain – on the basis of a few odd dreams she's been having. While
Athos and co roll their eyes, Aramis worries that Emilie may truly be
blessed and infiltrates the camp. But the last person he expects to find
there is the Queen… Meanwhile, Louis remains bewitched by Milady, which
riles Rochefort, and Constance and D'Artagnan struggle with being 'just
    good friends'.

  102. What a relief to see there's some sort of progress with Constance and D'Artagnan! No doubt it'll be intensely frustrating (for them and the fans...) and nothing will actually happen, but we'll take what we can get at this point. ;) Wonder what the Queen's up to?

    ReplyDelete
  103. Good to hear, but a front cover would be nice! If it's not Bake Off it's Call the Midwife or Doctor Who. RT do have their cover faves... :/

    ReplyDelete
  104. A relief indeed :) though I truely hope their relationship is more centre stage by episode 6, otherwise this 'love-story' is going to be a dissapointment, what with bigger events taking place for episodes 8, 9 and 10.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Why would Rochefort be riled by Louis having a mistress? Unless he already suspects that there's more to Milady than meets the eye..

    ReplyDelete
  106. This sounds very good. I just want some interaction between Aramis and The Queen! Thanks Kynikey!

    ReplyDelete
  107. He probably recognises a similarly twisted soul and suspects, like him, she's up to something. The palace won't be big enough for the both of them!

    ReplyDelete
  108. Judging from the promo ("innocent people are dying"), I think the Queen's probably trying to talk to Emilie to stop her inciting people to move against Spain. And what a surprise Aramis is there as well. :D If they're still only gonna give each other weird looks instead of finally talking, I'm gonna start throwing stuff...

    ReplyDelete
  109. That could well be it. It's a nice convenient way to throw all four of them together, whatever the plot! Hopefully there'll be some proverbial banging together of heads and, yes, one or two exchanged words, from EITHER couple would be something. In this environment there will surely be more chance of a few stolen moments of privacy, and heaven knows, the anguished/longing/panicked looks flying around the Palace are likely to knock someone's head off sooner or later if they're not addressed. I'm not sure what Aramis and the Queen would realistically be able to say to each other, though. It's not like with C&D where there's the possibility of them being together. Aramis and Anne can never be and they know it, and he can never be a father to his son, so there's not really much they can safely or honestly discuss that would take away the anguish or danger.

    ReplyDelete
  110. You're right, but maybe he just needs to hear it from her in some way. Either as an "I'm snubbing you because I'd be putting all of our lives in danger if I didn't" or as a "Please stay the hell away from us" (which he probably wouldn't either way, but I'd just like a spoken explanation of the way her behavior changed between season 1 and 2. I can imagine why it did, I'd just like it addressed in some form. Otherwise he's never gonna get any type of closure.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I think they can talk and maybe have a stolen moment or two. Of course they can't end up together but a kiss or two is fine with me. Maybe a declaration of love??? Then Aramis can go back to soldiering and the Queen can go back to the castle!!

    ReplyDelete
  112. They sooo need to talk! (I so need to see them talk!) Now that they have a son, they are bonded together for life. Lovers or not, this is life changing, they will never be the same as the start of S1. Okay, they can't be together, but i can't imagine Aramis in a normal relationship and the Queen... well, whatever happens, she will never find love in her marriage so there isn't a realistic option for her. (Buckingham, for example. It's canon from the books, but is still an affair. So, if she has to have an affair better have it with Aramis. Maybe next time they will actually close the door. And not kiss in the middle of a street like Constance and D'Artagnan.)

    ReplyDelete
  113. Yeah, I think we're heading towards more angst for Constance and D'Artagnan. More dancing around the flame. More desperate attempts to drag this thing out beyond endurance. I'm actually starting to forget at this point that the relationship ever held any moments of happiness. Right now, they're so mired in misery that I'm not entirely sure why they'd even want to get back together. Admittedly if Constance's dream was anything to go by, at least the sex was great. Aramis and Anne is an even more complicated proposition but ironically they might actually make some progress. There's a real need to acknowledge the elephant (or Dauphin :)) in the room and discuss what that means for both of them. Aramis needs to find a way to live with the situation and Anne needs to acknowledge his pain. I think they stand half a chance of making peace with each other, whereas Constance and D'Artagnan just need to make love to each other :) and stop pretending they don't need each other more than they need their next breath. I really think we're reaching some sort of tipping point with this. Either it will tip the story towards some progress, or if the perpetual holding pattern continues, we'll see the audience being tipped towards total apathy.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Yes perhaps but if the cardinal could have mentioned the rochefort trying to get close to the Queen to the king of Spain or his men they might have considered it a favor for themselves and opportunity to turn rochefort cause if she cheated wit h the comte the queen would be sent to live in a convent or those rare divorces and no heir of Spanish blood to claim France as they tried to do in an ordinary man and louis would have been humiliated so thats a possibility

    ReplyDelete
  115. The structure of the episode intrigues me as we seem to have some moments where Constance is in her Court attire when she's with D'Artagnan, then in much more informal attire with the Queen. She seems to be having an interesting/odd time whilst with Emilie and her mob and from images supplied by Jessica, she and D'Artagnan seem to be caught up in events that kick off elsewhere as well. It certainly seems to be jam packed.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I'm intrigued with what's got Constance gasping in the promo. It ain't her Musketeer(!) so maybe she's ill? Caught a fever? Drugged and seeing things? Maybe it's something similiar to Emilie and her visions and what causes them.

    ReplyDelete
  117. They might play around with this and we'll be uncertain as to whether Constance was drugged and hallucinating, or whether she's has a genuine vision, possibly of her own demise. They could certainly toy with what we know of her fate in the novel, in which case her vision could incorporate Rochefort and Milady. A vision featuring Milady would be a nice play on her haunted, terrified expression when she saw her on the stairs last week. It heightens the threat level and would keep us guessing as to who will make it out of this series alive.

    ReplyDelete
  118. We do know for certain whether Jessica's image of Constagnan where D'artagnan seems to have a bloody lip and Constance's cloak / necklace are gone are from episode 4?

    ReplyDelete
  119. We don't know for certain that they are but she appears to be wearing the same clothes, hairstyle and earrings that she's wearing in the near kiss scene, that features in the promo and it looks like a very similar backdrop. Given that she often wears the same outfit, it could be though that the image were D'Artagnan has a cut lip is from a later episode. I have a feeling that once the relationship gets going again, the pair will try to have the odd rendezvous with each other. I really hope it gets going soon though. Episode five is clearly Athos led and largely centred outside Paris. That leaves the intriguing episode six. Which depending on Adrian's memory of the episodesπŸ˜„ is apparently based entirely in one location. Could be ripe for some Constagnan development. After that, the schedule gets tight. Somewhere in the later half of the series we have Perdita Weeks "sexy assassin" episode. We also have Liam Cunningham in the Porthos led episode eight, then we're I to essentially a two part finale. It doesn't allow much time to properly explore Constance's decisions about her marriage and future in any meaningful way, nor to develop the relationship in a way that makes you care about the outcome. You can't do that in occasional thirty second scenes.

    ReplyDelete
  120. On a different note, I see that Luca, Santi, Howie and Maimie are at the Apple Store in Regent Street this evening promoting the show. Tom's off filming War and Peace I assume. I do wonder why neither Tamla or Alexandra get involved in these promotional activities? It's particularly interesting with Tamla, as I remember in the first series, she was described as the "female lead". This mantle seems to have well and truly passed to Maimie. Indeed she even has her own individual clip on the BBC website talking about Milady. As yet, no Constance or Anne equivalent. Not even a little introductory snippet for Marguerite. I hope their decision not to be involved is their own. Personally, I'd love to hear more from Tamla about Constance and the journey she goes on this series. I'm also sure fans would be interested to hear Alexandra's take on Anne. I enjoy Milady but for me, she's not my favourite female character and so far promotionally it's been all Milady, all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I agree. I'd love to see more insight from Tamla and Alexandra at these kind of events/interviews.

    ReplyDelete
  122. The girls are still secondary characters at the side of the boys, even if they are getting a bit more screentime this year and to be honest, I'm less interested in the girls than I am the boys. I'm really missing the Aramis / Porthos banter this year and I'd like to see more of the mentor / pupil relationship between D'Artagnan and Athos..

As much as I love the girls, the boys are the main draw for me, including King Louis and Treville.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I accept entirely that they are in much more supporting roles but that includes Maimie and what I'm questioning isn't the boys promoting the series. That makes complete sense. It's the almost sole focus on Maimie as a representative of the female leads. If that's how Tamla and Alexandra want it, that's great but a few more opportunities to hear their perspective, as a fan, I'd enjoy that.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I'm really hoping episode 6 is Constagnan's most important episode regarding getting back together, otherwise you might be right about the same mistakes being made again.. I want to see a love story, not a soap story.. :)

I'd also like to see Rochefort interacting with the Muskereers on a one-on-one basis, as we haven't really had that since episode 1.

    ReplyDelete
  125. If Miamie is there as well, then it is a bit of a surprise that Tamla and Alexendra aren't. There might be any number of reasons why though, both professional and personal..

    ReplyDelete
  126. Hopefully episode four will also bring us some progress but they need a decent amount of time in an episode to take this thing somewhere and make us care again about these two. Something they don't seem to want, or be able to give them. Usually I enjoy some angst but this is total overkill and it's depressing. It's not a passionate love story it's a seemingly endless slog. Worse it's an inconsistent slog. Episode one, they have a row, he insults her and she's hurt by seeing him kissing someone else. Episode two, they're flirtatiously smiling at one another like nothing's happened. Episode three, she has a blink and you'd miss it passing encounter with him in the Palace during which she can barely make eye contact with him, doesn't seem able to read him and comes off as somewhat sanctimonious and smug. Are you feeling the love at this point? I'm not.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Indeed Tamla is unwell at the moment and on the Night Nurse but it's yet another promotional event that neither she nor Alexandra have been involved in.

    ReplyDelete
  128. So, as we make our way through our temporary hiatus and anticipate a further interruption for six nations rugby, guess what? The BBC have finally woken up and realised that they might just have screwed the pooch with the rubbish scheduling and virtually non-existent promotion. Apple Store last night BBC Radion One Breakfast show this morning. Talk about trying to shut the stable door after the horse has bolted.πŸ˜’

    ReplyDelete
  129. It's quite poor that not only are we having to wait 2 weeks for episode 4 but might have to wait 3 weeks for episode 5 and have ANOTHER week's break for Comic Relief as we head towards the final. I'm one of those people who thinks football should go on BBC 2 instead of interrupting long-running dramas, unless the viewing figures for football really are quite good.
What with that and no confirmation of S3 yet, it's no wonder the mood is a bit low for some fans at the moment..

    ReplyDelete
  130. Re-series 3, not only have we had Jessica's hopeful tweet - I know it's not confirmation but I can't believe she'd get fans hopes up if she herself had no idea what's going to happen - but Santi is clearly growing his beard again, after shaving it off post-series 2. Luke's still clean shaven but of course, he's doing his film Retake next month, so has no choice.

    ReplyDelete
  131. They may well get a third series but the BBC has done it's very best to wreck the chances of this one succeeding. To a degree that's frankly bewildering.

    ReplyDelete
  132. " might have to wait 3 weeks for episode 5 and have ANOTHER week's break for Comic Relief as we head towards the final."
    But... but... No. Way. Γ§_Γ§

    ReplyDelete
  133. ...but Last Tango in Halifax (which got nauseatingly endless promotion) is doing fine. So that's ok then. /sarcasm

Frankly I think the way this show has been treated is disgraceful and a complete farce. Whoever thought moving it to Friday was a good idea should stand up and explain their reasoning, before being pelted with rocks by the fans who are being screwed over as a thank you for their loyalty. It was an unutterably STUPID decision to move it - not to mention a disrespect to not even bother promoting it anywhere but the BBC Twitter feed - and a disservice to the fans, cast and crew who have invested so much time and energy and support in trying to keep it going.

    Heads should roll.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I've just emailed the BBC about their scheduling and lack of promotion for The Musketeers. I just think it's appalling that they have scheduled it when they knew all along it was going to be interrupted.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Putting aside international sales for a moment, the BBC is always carping about the importance of ensuring value for the license fee payer. I remember that line featuring in the press release when they cancelled Ripper Street after moving it to an impossible slot up against I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. The Musketeers must have cost a fortune, even with potential filming subsidies, the cost of transport and accommodation alone is probably eye watering. Not to mention the elaborate costumes and a cinematic soundtrack featuring the Prague Orchestra! To take all of this money and effort and just throw it down the pan is frankly a disgrace. You mention Last Tango in Halifax. The on air promotion for that series was nothing short of a bombardment. You could watch a BBC primetime programme without seeing the promo. I could count on the fingers of one hand and have digits to spare, the number of times I saw The Musketeers promo over Christmas. It didn't even feature in the dram showcase promo, or in the BBC dramas in 2015 promo. You can't help feeling that this isn't accidental, it's intentional. In America, Friday nights are where TV shows go to die. You can't argue that the patient islooking good right now. Someone called the BBC on the scheduling on Twitter last week and got the glib reply that a Friday move wasn't a diss, "We can't think of four handsome men we'd rather start our weekends with." That's frankly a whole lot of equine excrement.

  136. On episode four, we now have the first of our teaser hangmen to chew over. I'm delighted that it seems Constance will finally get to participate fully in an episode and that it seems she gets to interact with a number of the characters, as well as D'Artagnan. It would appear that in addition to the Musketeers and Emilie, she has an Important scene/s with Lemay the Physician. He may also provide care for Emilie if it's found she's been exploited and drugged herself. Similarly if Constance has been drugged, or injured in some way during the episode, he may also treat her. It will be interesting to see how this relationship evolves. Something must happen soon that causes Constance to reassess her fear of pursuing the relationship with D'Artagnan. I wonder whether in some way Lemay may help Constance to reflect on the need to sieze the day. I see him as more of a friend and ally to her. Intimating a potential romantic connection would be just insane and far too damaging for her character. If an attraction is suggested, I'd be certain it would be entirely one sided on his part. We know where her heart lies and she has enough worry about navigating the Bonacieux issue.

    ReplyDelete
  137. How about BBC America? Maybe we will have no interruptions and you might have to watch along with the U.S. fans. Episode 2 is airing this Saturday. it's on Saturday nights here.
I was wondering about the ratings. I think I read that BBC America is co-producing this show. Howie and Santiago were sporting their beards at the Apple event so maybe they are returning for Season 3.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Well done. Let us know if you get a response.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Luke's also still not had a haircut, so I think we can presume 'Brandon' will be doing his road trip as a long-haired Musketeer!

    ReplyDelete
  140. Which email address did you use? I'd happily contact them too.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Speaking of promotion or lack of it, the BBC should start paying the Australian actress Emma Hamilton. She appears in episode eight apparently but boy is she promoting the show on her twitter page! She's on it like a bonnet. Good on her! :)

    ReplyDelete
  142. I note the various talent agencies the actors are signed up to often tweet about their guys when they're in an episode or new movie. It's in the actors' interests to promote themselves (especially if the channels they're airing on can't be bothered) so yes, good on her! Charles Venn has been promoting his Musketeers appearance too. I admit I'd never heard of him before he was announced as a cast member, so I'm looking forward to seeing how he goes in this ep.

    ReplyDelete
  143. It's crazy that they can reschedule Room 101! It would have been preferable that they showed The Musketeers after the football ends.

I used the webform at: https://ssl.bbc.co.uk/faqs/forms/?eid=&id=TQ6BEM1D5AL06B0CIBJM1NF6NQ&mid=&uid=155171824

Annoyingly, it only allows you to type so many words, so you can't say too much!

    ReplyDelete
  144. Yes, I noticed this too. Charles Venn has a huge following on Twitter as well. I hadn't heard of him either but looks like he must be quite well known.

    ReplyDelete
  145. I'm really hoping for a significant Constagnan scene in episode 4 and not that near-kiss that's in the trailer, unless it's alongside another significant scene that makes it clear that Constance is struggling to be without the man she loves. Knowing what Sandi's view is about Constance cheating on her husband anyway, I'm sure she'd be far from amused if Constance was to suddenly take a romantic interest in yet another man.. :)

I wonder if Constance suspects anything regarding Aramis and the baby and at least Aramis and Queen Anne?

    ReplyDelete
  146. I completely agree with you. I think it's simply not on the cards that Constance will be romantically interested in Lemay. It would be devastating for her character. Her focus in that regard is and should remain, D'Artagnan. I think we really need to see some indication, as you rightly say, of the depth of her feelings for him and his for her. There needs to be a sense that it isn't over between them and that Constance is beginning to seriously consider returning to the man she loves.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I also wonder if she brings up Milady in relation to Athos?

    ReplyDelete
  148. I think it's very likely that the identity of the baby Daddy will come out via the sinister Priest we saw in episode one. That ominous remark that the Cardinal "Knew all your secrets" will come back to haunt Aramis, I've no doubt. The question is, could he have shared that secret with Rochefort, or could Rochefort come into possession of the information?

    ReplyDelete
  149. I really don't think anyone has any suspicions at this point, other than perhaps Rochefort, via some sort of intel from Richelieu. If Constance's bond with the Queen is as strong as seems to be suggested, I think she may just find out from Anne herself in a future moment of crisis. If D'Artagnan found out before her, it might be a hard call from him, as on the one hand he wouldn't want to tell her a treasonous secret the knowledge of which could put her in danger, and he would worry about betraying Aramis's secret perhaps without his knowledge. On the other hand, maybe he'd think she SHOULD know if only to be forewarned and forearmed should Rochefort or Milady strike.

Whenever she finds out (and she surely will) Constance will be in a very awkward position. She'll be carrying a treasonous secret about the Queen, and dangerous knowledge about one of the King's Musketeers, and if the story doesn't come from them, she'll not know whether D'Artagnan knows, or if he *should* know, and if it's her place to tell him. She'll then have to dodge the King and hope to goodness he doesn't suspect anything, as well as avoiding Rochefort and Milady, who may or may not know the truth, and if either *does* know the truth, they may suspect she does and try to exploit or threaten her anyway. Even if she doesn't know, her position next to the Queen will automatically make them suspicion of her and put a gigantic bullseye on her forehead.

Still not wanting that quiet boring life back, Connie?!

    ReplyDelete
  150. He was a regular on Eastenders a few years back, which would certainly explain why he's quite well known..:)

    ReplyDelete
  151. Ah, that explains it. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  152. I'm just wondering whether it will be something that Aramis says to Constance that persuades her to acknowledge and act on her feelings for d'Artagnan. Aramis has lost both Isabel and Adele, as well as not being able to be with Anne and the baby. He may give her advice about life is too short and that you never know when you will lose the one you love.

    ReplyDelete
  153. On their treatment of the Musketeers alone, I'd imagine they'll be wading through bags of negative feedback for the next 6 months...

    ReplyDelete
  154. I think you could well be right that Aramis will provide Constance with some food for thought. He's never been in any doubt about the feelings of either party and it could be that he'll point out how rare it is to find love and that you should cherish it when you do. I notice that Jessica's changed her profile pics on Twitter again. We now have an onset moment with the biys, clearly enjoying a joke and a picture of Constance looking somewhat flushed at the Garrison. It's from the same set of images as the pic of her running away. I also think she's wearing the same outfit as the one from the gorgeous picture of her on horseback with D'artagnan. The only difference being that her hair is down in the Garrison pictures. Morning after the night before maybe?πŸ˜‰πŸ˜˜

    ReplyDelete
  155. Especially if D's sleeping quarters are in a dormitory! :P

I worry about that horseback picture. I still think it's foreshadowing. They're so obviously together and happy, in public. It's just too good to be true. Of course we don't know the context, but still....

I don't think it's the same outfit, btw. The one she's wearing on horseback is more blue, almost a cheesecloth type material, Jess's pic is definitely of a green dress and the shoulders are different. So probably not the morning after. :(

    ReplyDelete
  156. If I remember from series one Aramis seemed to have a little room of his own, so who knows?πŸ˜„ I think we're getting our pics mixed up. There is a picture of Constance in a greenish coloured dress but the one I mean is Jessica's new small profile pic, which is of Constance in a blue chemise top edged with white/cream lace. It could well be a linen/cheesecloth type material and the neckline and indeed necklace are identical to the horseback image. As is the skirt of the outfit, which we see in full in the other garrison image, which was of her appearing to make a hasty exit. A morning after might well be wishful thinking though.πŸ˜„ I wouldn't read too much into the happy expressions we see of them in the horseback image. I have a feeling that was taken during the set up for a scene.

    ReplyDelete
  157. If it was just a set up pic and not a still, I'll be a much happier camper. :D

    ReplyDelete
  158. Oh,sounds interesting! Aramis is my favorite muskeeter :)

    ReplyDelete
  159. Well it would seem we've lost our only tweeting Musketeer for the time being. Luca's Twitter account has been repeatedly hacked over the past few days and it seems like he's had enough for now and is taking a break. Another victory for the a**hol*s of this world.πŸ˜’

    ReplyDelete
  160. Yeh, I saw that. :( Hopefully he'll be back up and running before long. Fans have been sending him lots of advice on how to fix it though, bless, so I'm sure he'll back soon. Staying away only lets the lowlifes win. I'll never understand what sort of a pathetic life you have to have to enjoy breaking into other people's emails/twitter/facebook, etc. As Luca said, there are a lot of sad people out there.

    ReplyDelete
  161. The solution to the second Aramis led hangman, gives us more food for thought. This looks like a really pivotal episode. It seems to set up and progress a lot of key story arcs for all of the main characters. It will be interesting to see what emerges from Aramis' interaction with Emilie and the re-emergence of his spiritual and religious beliefs. Also, importantly, his first meaningful interaction with Anne since the birth of the Dauphin. Athos too seems to be building on his bond with D'Artagnan and indeed opening up more about his personal concerns. We've also seen from the promo that he meets with Milady once again. Speaking of D'Artagnan, as a Constagnan fan, I'm delighted that we'll get some sort of character progression at last. Even if only to indicate that these two aren't done yet. It would also be great to see them have a conversation with each other. One which doesn't result in an argument, or an exchange which is more than a fleeting glance, or an awkward encounter devoid of eye contact on Constance's part. His bond with Athos and respect for his brother Musketeer, will also be interesting to see develop more. I'm also really pleased to see that Constance herself, gets a decent role to play and some interaction with a number of characters. Finally, I'm intrigued that Porthos gets some unexpected news. Perhaps he learns that his father is alive and well. All of these stories together seem to set up the second half of the series perfectly. After an episode I was hugely disappointed with, I have a feeling this one will be a goodie.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Yes, this does look like a 'back to its best' episode. :D I was only saying in another discussion just now that the reinforcing of faith and religion in Aramis's storyline, added to his recent women trouble, gives us a suggestion of a more 'canon' future for Aramis, that is, turning to his original vocation to God and putting women aside. Lord knows he's surely realising right now how devastating his ways can be to the women he loves (or doesn't love, even), and it'd be interesting to see that conflict within him gaining more ground.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing Athos opening up more to D'Artagnan and their friendship becoming more like that between Porthos and Aramis. Although he obviously loves the other guys, before now he's not had that 'special' friend he can finally be honest with, rather than keeping all his troubles locked away at the bottom of a wine bottle, as we saw in the very first episode of series 1. Sitting aside from the others, they only knew it was 'woman trouble' and didn't press for details from him. Likewise, for D'Artagnan, who has lost his father and desperately needs the new family he's found with the Musketeers, having a brother like Athos, who can see himself in the boy and wants to guide him away from all the mistakes he himself made, it can only be a blessing. They both seem to have the traits that the other needs, which I think is lovely in a male relationship. So often we only see that sort of connection in a romantic, male/female relationship, which is a completely different dynamic. This is far more interesting.

I'm curious how Porthos' story will affect his relationships and behaviour with the others, not just Treville. Though we know of his closeness with Aramis, there have been times when he's evidently not opened up about everything in his past, and Aramis has had to almost drag it out of him. With revelations to come about who he is and who is family are, I wonder if he'll pull away and try to figure it out by himself and push the others away (especially if he's been badly hurt by Treville's involvement) or if he'll need to lean on them even more when the truth comes out and he needs their perspective.

I'm also relieve that we're apparently going to see the bond between Constance and Anne, at last. I've been wondering how the events of the Babygate fiasco would affect them and I do want to see them develop a real friendship where they can both be honest, rather than a Queen/servant type thing. Just like the boys, they need someone they can confide in too.

    ReplyDelete
  163. D'artagnan's feelings about Constance are crystal clear really, it's Constance I want to see more emotion from now in this area. Whilst it's great to see her in the palace and doing things that are worthwhile - giving her character development - it's had the side-effect of giving us less Constagnan in any meaningful way, at least so far.. I'd happily trade the over-use of court scenes for a proper love-story between these two characters. One of the things I came to love about Torchwood was the Gwen / Rhys relationship, where 'ordinary' boyfriend/fiancΓ©e/husband Rhys acted as an anchor for his alien-fighting partner. d'Artagnan and Constance should be stronger together, not apart..
It's like the over-use of court in S2 has also had the side-effect of giving us less Aramis / Porthos banter, which is something many fans are missing, even though the show itself has gotten better in some ways.

    ReplyDelete
  164. I just really, really hope that they're not trying to set up TOO much in one episode again. As much as I'm looking forward to some boys-time and some character development, if they're trying to cram too much into the episode again that might just backfire....

  165. Don't disagree with anything you've said. It is now time to really progress the love story and actually give it the feel of a love story, rather than the uphill slog it's been up to now. More importantly, we really do need, as you rightly say, to see Constance's feeling for D'Artagnan. Hopefully, this won't be far away.

  166. So long as there's some logical progression and the characters are individually well served, which seems to be the case, we could have an exciting episode that will hopefully put them back on track.

  167. Just to let you know that the clip for this week's episode is on the BBC website now. Two of the teaser quotes are included in it. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02hp356

  168. LOVING all the Gage/Louis scenes! This little tidbit with Milady is so fun. I can't get enough of him. He really embodies a pompous monarch.

Also excited to see this side of Aramis. We haven't really touched on his faith yet.

  169. He is so funny - he's definitely one of my favourite characters this year. So looking forward to this episode. :)

Like you, I'm also looking forward to seeing this side of Aramis.

  170. The Musketeers have a staff canteen! Who knew? :) P.S. Where's Serge? or did he not survive that Musket wound?

  171. Oh that's a shame 😒

  172. I knew he wouldn't let them win.:)

  173. Honestly, they really did aim for the melodramatic in the 17th century. "Fainting since she was a child" probably just means low blood sugar! Give the girl some chocolate! :P

  174. You know, I have been wondering about poor Serge the whole year. I hope he did survive! We never did find out. :)

  175. Aww poor Serge.:( I hope Porthos is looking after Cleopatra the blunderbuss.

  176. It feels like this episode has been a month coming, never mind two weeks and we've got another two week wait for episode 5...
    I can't wait for the un-interruption of episodes 5-8 - I hope..

  177. Sandi's going to have to come up with some pretty spectacular games to keep us all occupied for *sob* TWO WEEKS. :((
