This week The Mentalist takes us into the world of the Black Marker. The team investigates a murder linked to a counterfeit diamond operation, but an illness forces Jane to direct his colleagues from the office as he recuperates. Meanwhile, Abbott is concerned that transgressions in his past could harm his wife’s chance to obtain a prestigious job in Washington, D.C.
Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon's relationship keeps growing up. When he gets sick, it's her turn to lead the investigation in a very Jane's style - she tries and succeed in doing it. Those two make really a good team in private and in public. Jane wears again his vest (I guess it's because he knows Lisbon likes it) and prefers staying at the FBI where his girlfriend is working, instead of being alone in the airstream. So cute!
Years spent learning from the best in pyschics was helpfull to catch the real killer. That scene in which Lisbon acts like a medium in front of the crown was absolutely fantastic and funny. I bet everyone was laughing while Robin played that part - the peek was when she 'makes contact' with some woman's dog, who's dead. "Roger wants to say hi." "He can talk?" "Of course. All of God's creatures can talk int he afterlife." This was precious.
The ending scene raises some questions about the future of Jane and Lisbon. Does Jane have a plan? Apparently yes. He wonders what will happen after the FBI, because he knows he can't work forever there, but Lisbon makes a point: it's who she is. She's the law. Can Jane stuck with that idea for the rest of their lives? So Lisbon has two problems to deal with: being afraid that Jane could leave her again and the cold she's just caught thanks to him. Anyway, when I get sick, I don't wear a vest and I don't look so good like Jane.
Michelle Vega and Kimball Cho. He's still mad at her because she lied about allowed to be in the field, in the previous episode. Abbott understood her ambitious temper and forgave her, so he tells Cho to do the same, by taking her with him during the investigation. I hope this tension between them will be over now, because I honestly don't want another angst season like we had in the past. I'm not sure if Cho asked Vega out in the field or for a date. We'll soon figure it out. Give Kimball Cho some woman to share his life with! Anyway, I can almost understand Vega's behaviour. She's young and she joined the FBI to learn, but still it's too early to go into the field with her gun. I think she needs to do some practice in the office first, stay with Wylie could help her - his work is also usefull to the team.
Dennis Abbott plays Cupid in his team, but when it comes to his romantic situation, he can't handle it. When his wife gets the chance to work in Washington D.C. - funny how this city keeps coming around lol - Abbott must handle some past issues with his job and this may cause conseguences. He's put in the middle between his work, his agents and his beautiful wife. He needs to choose and he choose his team at the FBI. Lisbon and Abott both love their jobs, but while Dennis learns everything has a cost, Teresa seems like she needs to make a choice once again: her job or Jane.
Almost forgot: special mentions go to Cho's lines and Lisbon being badass showing her badge.
