The Fall - Episode 2.05 - Advance Preview + Dialogue Teasers
10 Dec 2014
Reviews SS The FallLast week we saw the surveillance finally put into place, not only on Spector, but on his home and on Katie Benedetto too. After the incompetence that virtually gave away the illegal search of his house and the female body in the woods that was later identified to not be Rose, the Belfast police are now steadfast in running the operation by the book. This week sees the team delving into Paul’s past to gather information, while they also finalise the details on his arrest warrant as the last pieces of evidence are analysed. Then Stella can put her plan into action to get him in custody and start questioning him.
The pressure is ramped up in a variety of ways this week, there’s a lot of threads seamlessly coming together as the taskforce are all involved in separate jobs after the initial briefing at the start of the episode. Even ACC Burns has an assignment as he visits the defrocked Father Jensen (Sean McGinley) in an attempt to get to the bottom of what makes Spector tick. This is only one of the uncomfortable scenes that we are party to in this instalment yet Lynch and McGinley make it very memorable, playing the intensity from both sides of the coin with imperative ease.
However the most powerful moment of the episode, and possibly the whole season, comes later on and was teased in the Press Release. We were told that Stella’s “investigation makes her a witness to the shocking brutality of Spector’s crimes”, and this is no overstatement. A simple monologue delivered by one of the cast, together with Gillian Anderson’s heartfelt reaction, is one of the most harrowing and moving pieces of television I have seen in a sometime.
As we have seen from the photos that have been released we also have a car chase and shoot out with Jimmy Tyler to look forward to, and new recruit Tom Anderson finally gets to meet the Belfast Strangler. Colin Morgan has had nothing but praise for his co-star Jamie Dornan, telling the Radio Times “he’s brilliant. He’s very committed to the role and he’s highly intelligent. I think his performance in the second series is really going to blow people away.” Again he’s not got a huge amount of screen time this week, but we do find out that there was a reason Stella took an immediate interest in his character.
Episode 2.05 airs on BBC Two and BBC Two HD on Thursday 11th December at 9pm. Below are a few dialogue teasers to see you through until then. Don't forget to come back to vote in our poll after the episode and let us know what you thought.

“Things could get out of control very quickly for you, Paul”
“The Benedetto girl has cut school, she’s on the move”

Thanks for the spoilers. I'm not happy that Colin hasn't more airtime than last week's episode... I got into the show thanks to him and I'd love to see him more in it! Thanks anyway.
ReplyDelete“The target seems to be playing loud music” hahaha
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. I think it's difficult with such a large cast, especially when you join later on in the season. I take what I can get of him though, he's always welcome on my screen :)
ReplyDeleteYou're right. Thank you again. :)
ReplyDeleteThat episode sound creepier than the last one. The clip in the Press release was certainly chilling. Why was Stella crying? How did Paul get past Jim Burns? And Colin's voice - so monotonous and in a way threatening. Is that how the are trying to get to Paul? "Things could get out of control very quickly for you, Paul”
ReplyDeleteI am also disappointed that Colin does not get a lot of screen time in this episode. It was suggested that he played a key role (with his name appearing right after the two main characters). Are they really keeping it all for the last episode?
Yes, beggars can't be chosers. *g*
ReplyDeleteThe BBC are not releasing the finale for preview I've been told, so I am assuming that something big happens in it. I'm hoping that he has a bigger role in that too...
ReplyDeleteI assume if they want to do another season something big must happen. Hopefully involving Colin (but not him getting killed in yet another role!!!) :) Something quite unexpected. Because I have no clue how they can spin this out further.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to be that the first season was the week of the murders, this one is the week of the capture, so I wonder if a third could be about the trial and deconstruction of the why? That is if it gets a third season, nothing has been said as yet.
ReplyDelete6 episodes
ReplyDeletethanksss i really wish there was more
ReplyDeleteThe last episode is an extended 90 minutes, which will be interesting. I'd like to see the series continue, either with some kind of huge twist in this story or another killer.
