  2. Mmm interesting so does Felicity not continue to help fight crime when Oliver goes missing?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Laurel (Katie Cassidy) takes up the mantle of the Black Canary

    Ugh!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Always when i see The CW logo i want to believe they released mid-season schedule ... i really hope the will release it soon

    ReplyDelete
  5. I'm guessing that Lavon gets with AB, George gets with Lemon, and Zoe/Wade resolve to work things out.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I think it will, something like what they did on 3x07 with Cupid. Also, i understood that Felicity isn't mentioned because she isn't on the field: i believe it means Diggle and Roy try to take Oliver's place.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Arrow: Everything is a lot like i expected. I said i was gonna see Laurel becoming Black Canary this fast with an open mind and i will, hope it's done well(but i'm not that hopefull).

The Flash: I think that with Caitlin being kidnapped we will see a Flash/Firestorm team up in the final battle against Capt. Cold/Heat Wave.

The 100: I hope the death of 2x08 gives us a GOOD storyline. It would be a shame for it to be for nothing but produce shock.

  8. So glad caroline's mother has cancer just so stefan and caroline can be together

  9. Can't wait for The 100! Sounds like another great episode.

  10. TVD-Obviously stefan is going to meet with sarah at duke university in north carolina & as expected enzo follows/stalks him.Time to find a new hobby, buddy! As for caroline, good luck finding that cure, let us know if u manage to find one.As for the unexpected visitor,i'm guessing the lunatic father of kai sjows up.He has been MIA for quite some time after his brief stint.Anyway, excited to watch paul in the director's role once again!

  11. Raven if you start throwing hooks at Clarke who once again did what had to be done I will seriously be pissed with you. Otherwise...great synopsis for 2x09 cannot wait for The 100 return on the 21st! Praying that Monty doesn't end up face down on a hospital bed with Tsing drilling into him for this new risky plan. And YES Abby and Kane let the 100 leaders do what they do best and take a step back. Lastly.. I am most definitely dreading Finn haunting Clarke. When Clarke hurts I hurt.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I'm so excited for The 100! It sounds really good and I'm looking forward to seeing the alliance between them although knowing the 100 writers I'm sure there will be problems.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The Originals - I'm glad they brought Cassie Back. I liked her and I'll probably like her better now that she's not Esther's meat suit.
Jane the Virgin - So I'm guessing Rafael is gonna have to fire Jane.
The Flash - Cisco makes the CCPD a new shield? What's that about?
Supernatural - I am very ready to hear the "single worst idea I've ever heard."
Arrow - I'm guessing it won't be more than 35-40 minutes into the episode before Laurel gets her ass kicked. Ah, growing pains.
The 100 - I'm glad Abby and Kane are getting a clue. I really hope Raven doesn't screw things up but you just know she will.
The Vampire Diaries - Damn. I liked Enzo for about three episodes but now he's right back to the season 1 version whom I want to see die very very badly.
Hart of Dixie - Same show, different week. The relationship merry-go-round never ends.

  14. Hate to be a negative Nancy but I was hoping for a six week jump to help give credibility to Laurel becoming Black Canary and to see it is only 3 days later
is disappointing. But I am excited to see how everyone reacts to Oliver being dead and seeing how Ray' s plans are going.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Looking forward to The Flash, The 100 and Arrow.

Supernatural best show ever!!! OMG I CAN´T WAIT!! :D Claire... don´t touch my Dean!! :S

    ReplyDelete
  17. You seem to be assuming that Laurel will be good at her new hobby right out of the gate. From what I've read, that couldn't be further from the truth.

    ReplyDelete
  18. That will literally be Sam's role in the episode to deem Cas's idea as 'the single worst idea ever'

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yep, i also would love for some Diggle/Laurel interaction. If the man can relate to someone is Laurel. He is roads ahead of where she is regarding the lost of a loved one(his brother, Andy).
He MUST explain her that doing it out of rage is the wrong way... My problem is that they DO NOT have a relationship at all, and any kind of interaction like that this soon would feel way to awkward.
The Season started great and then Laurel was, again, pushed away from the core cast(Oliver, Diggle, Felicity and Roy).

    ReplyDelete
  20. You make a good point about Diggle's brother. Arrow has seemingly dropped that mystery subplot and Diggle's loss would be a very good way for him to relate to Laurel and help ease her into the group more naturally.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Well, i wouldn't use the word "naturally" to describe anything Laurel related, but i think they just need to give her the "Roy treatment": Force her into the group with any story they want and wait for people to forget when 4x01 begins.

For some reason people forgot about Roy's awful and rushed story on Season 2 Jajajaja

I still think Laurel will end up going to The Lague after 3x23 and from 4x01 to 4x08 we will see her training with Nyssa on Nanda Parbat, only to return to Star City on 4x09.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I don't like that there is going to be serious conflict between Clarke and Raven but those will be some amazing scenes.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I wonder if Diggle will end up putting on the green suit and pretend to be Arrow again in Oliver's absence.

    ReplyDelete
  24. So Claude is alive. I thought Catherine poisoned her. #Reign

    ReplyDelete
  25. My fear with the whole Laurel puts on a suit to be a vigilante is to fool Quentin. That will enrage me. They lying was bad enough but keeping him in the dark for much longer is grating on me.

But wouldnt Laurel than became an assassin de-facto. I dont think they would just make an exception just for Laurel.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I wish they would've at least waited with giving her the costume until the season finale (she could start going out to fight baddies without it). It's not like the show is in danger of cancellation and has to rush to give fans what they want. Right now, it's too early and the supposed payoff of her BC arc is unearned.

    ReplyDelete
  27. what is the big deal with laurel been the black canary

    ReplyDelete
  28. Most haven't forgotten Roy's frantic character evolution. The audience is simply willing to give other characters breaks and forgive-and-forget whereas anything Laurel does that can in any way be perceived negatively is to be etched in stone so it may be remembered and complained about for all time.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I dont think other characters had as many story arcs as Laurel also. They tried to fix and change her for 2.5 season. The problem is it didnt help her character in any way. And then with the death of Sara just so Laurel could take on the BC mantle, they are on thin ice with the audience.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don't think Arrow has ever tried to "fix" Laurel. That's a perception problem. Laurel at the time was doing fewer things that people complained about so viewers spun it as an attempt to fix her. The show has had a long-term plan for Laurel just as they have for the other regular characters and, from what I've read, they've never deviated from that.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well the EP gave the impression that they know that the character of Laurel has some issues and tried to remedy it. They mentioned it first at Comic Con 2013.

    ReplyDelete
  32. This is speaking for me only, but my problem with her is just how she is a bad written character. The writers make her a loose bullet, something that could change her personality, beliefs, roots for the sake of force her into the story.

They lost me the moment she argue with Oliver and told him to f**k off(i was on her side) but the next episode she was giving him relationship advice because that's the only thing they could do to give her screen time.

The character is a mess. Two of the best advices soemone gave me concerning my writing is "never ask your audience to ignore things" and "Never try to fool your fans, since they will know each story better than you and will call on your BS". I wish this person i respect so much would give that advice to Arrow's EPs concerning Laurel.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I would never expect an EP (especially on a network like The CW) to be anything but conciliatory at a venue like Comic Con so that's unsurprising.

    ReplyDelete
  34. You're not the only one who has a problem with the quality of writing that the Laurel character has received. I feel similarly. Some of the show's most unforgivably ridiculous facepalm moments have been delivered by Laurel and the awful material Katie Cassidy has had to act out.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yeah i really dont think they had any plan with Laurel other then build her up as Oliver love interest in season 1. But season 2 confirmed to me that they dont have a real long-term plan regarding Laurel, especially how they introduced Sara & they originally wanted to make her Ravager & an ally to Slade. They might have some plan but they dont mind throwing it out the window and going a different direction.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Arrow - I am just glad my show will be back. I can't wait to see Diggle, Roy and Felicity's reactions to Merlyn's news. Will we get to see Oliver's rescue in this episode?

The 100 - I am so excited for this episode. Especially the relationship between Raven and Clarke.

The Flash - Caitlin gets abducted for a change giving Iris a break :p... I want to see how Iris reacts to Barry's revelation.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well, Roy is a "two dimensional character" like Felicity was on Season 2. We don't know anything about Roy. So is that how people can name one thing bad about him. Roy needs to get the Felicity treatment on Season 3B or Season 4.
Felicity on S1 and S2 was a limb of Oliver and Team Arrow. Season 3 gave her a story of her own, a story Oliver would react through her. And it's pretty well done. At least is consistent with the character.
But Laurel was a character that they never knew where to put her. I still believe that she would have been better being just a recurring guest star until they get to the point of she becoming Black Canary. She had A LOT of development but "a developed chaarcter does not equal a good character". People can pick examples of crappy storytelling.

Also they designed the Oliver/Laurel couple as a Gossip Girl type of relationship and people who watch Arrow(audience online is pretty minor, i mean the regular viewer) don't watch shows like that. That relationship was doomed for the start. Not kidding people scouted for a replacement with Helena or McKenna and Felicity(These two were the best because they are the most "normal").

Then you have to add that people actually liked Sara and she was killed in favor of Laurel, because there's no scenario in wich people could accept her being Canary if Sara would still be alive somewhere. By killing her they are taking the choice from your hands.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Another thread about several shows turns into an Arrow chat room, I love it lol

    ReplyDelete
  39. Don't think so, i believe Roy is the one that must up his game as Arsenal to fix the hole. It will be gret for a so empty character.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Don't think we'll see Oliver rescue. At least i would never wrote the story like that. Showing he's alive would make the reader/viewer more calm and the "reactions" would lost weight since you're gonna think "well, she will be ok in two episodes".

I would later, when he returns, show a flashback of that time or, even better, i would use that as Season 6's flashbacks.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm not much a fan of this storyline, but they could use it to have her exit the series( hopefully).

    ReplyDelete
  42. "By killing her they are taking the choice from your hands."
None of this is our choice. It's their show and their vision. I'm all for viewers voicing their opinions for the betterment of a program but we shouldn't forget that there's no TV production by committee. We're viewers.

    ReplyDelete
  43. The Flash: Someone gets kidnapped... Who could it be? lol Can't wait to see CC and HW.

Arrow: They are going to kill us, aren't they? My babies (Felicity, Dig and Roy) are in for very tough times. Is Malcolm going to tell Thea?

The 100: This episode is going to be tense but at least we'll see Finn again even if it's a hallucination.

JTV: I just want Alba to be OK.

on a happy note, Happy new year everyone :D

    ReplyDelete
  44. Iris has only been abducted once. It's not like she's constantly kidnapped.

    ReplyDelete
  45. They must drop that absurd storyline. You see, this is my problem. They had no chance of do it wrong. The story was simple: Show Laurel grieve Sara, she had to be the one character people relate while missing Sara, in order to make her likeable. She then had to be showned training with Ted Grant(she had to learn the world isn't black and white from him) while starting to form relationships with Diggle(through Andy), Felicity(to talk about Sara) and Roy(to calm the rage).

But what they did was doing that absurd "don't tell my dad story", they casted an actor with a conflictive schedule to play Grant and she wasn't in 2 episodes while using the mid season finale for the most absurd Plot B since the story in wich Moira's lawyer asked Thea to break up with Roy.

I really think they don't care about her, at this point. They like the character they created(Diggle) and Lemire himself asked if he could bring to the comics and the new Felicity Smoak, one they couldn't wait to bring to the comic once they took over it(just forget about Naomi and Fyff, let turn the comics into Arrow: The Comicbook Version).

    ReplyDelete
  46. Is this the year of people trying to get revenge on Dean? First Cole and now Claire.

    ReplyDelete
  47. You didn't get what i meant, online fans have no impact on things like that. If she, say. "went to Nanda Parbat with Nyssa to open a bakering store" people would be "When is she coming back? When?".

By killing her they end the wishfull thinking, she turns into the only character that can be Canary.

    ReplyDelete
  48. And she save herself, tbh Jajajaja She was like "Need a sidekick, bro? 'Cause girl is on fiyaaaaaaaaa"

    ReplyDelete
  49. I know! We're like the cool kids who get the best spot in the playground and the sweetest candy!

    ReplyDelete
  50. The end-game for HoD is now clear as day-Zoe & wade,Lavon & annabeth and Goerge & lemon.

    ReplyDelete
  51. The 100: it's about time the adults get with the program.

    ReplyDelete
  52. what do you think the idea could possibly be?

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm guessing either turn to Metatron, or find Cain.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I am happy Laurel will be new Canary. Almost everybody hates her character, but this way, she can become more popular

    ReplyDelete
  55. you really think so? i mean Sara was loved

    ReplyDelete
  56. I honestly have no idea. I lost the ability to predict SPN plotlines and character moments many many seasons ago.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Sara was my favorite character and her death pissed me off .. but she is not coming back and this way we can at least have a reason to like Laurel

    ReplyDelete
  58. Ah, I see. Well, that sort of thing doesn't bother me. I'm always a fan of a show first and individual characters second so stuff like that is easier for me to adjust to.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Supernatural. Wow. I didn’t expect Claire to turn against Dean. I hope Castiel’s idea doesn’t make Sam’s part in the show irrelevant. I think that the writers probably needed a stopgap till Cain comes back because Dean can’t keep spiraling down.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm not a Laurel hater but I believe her becoming Canary will have the opposite effect. She won't become considerably more popular by being Canary. In fact, a lot of viewers may resent her for it and I think that's a shame.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I hope not ... I hope she will become a bad ass character ... I kinda hate Laurel now, but i think the actress is very talented and i hope the character of Laurel will finally get decent development

    ReplyDelete
  62. The writers don't need Cas to make Sam irrelevant. They're doing a fine job already. By all accounts, Sam's job description this season is to get beat up, get tied up, get knocked unconscious, get rescued by other people, and to worry about Dean.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I can't wait to see The Originals for what happens to Rebekah. And The 100, so glad the adults are realizing they don't know what they're doing. Can't wait till they finally march on Mt. Weather. I don't even know what to think for Arrow. Can't wait to see how they bring him back. And for TVD, I'm sort of......eh. Wake us when Bonnie is back.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I'm with you about Bonnie. We're heading into episode 11 (the halfway point of the season) and her not being back yet is just unacceptable.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Don't forget to SILENTLY worry about Dean. In years past when Dean worried about Sam, he got to express his emotions, but now that it's Sam's turn, he doesn't even get that.

    ReplyDelete
  66. you know the show so well. I think that's what there going too do too the writers have nothing else too do.

    ReplyDelete
  67. He gets the "Sam smirk." It's his signature. XD

    ReplyDelete
  68. because Dean can take care of his own self OK!

    ReplyDelete
  69. yep that about defines "single worst idea I've ever heard."

    ReplyDelete
  70. is that bad or good?

    ReplyDelete
  71. I thought I read that Cain comes back this season so I am guessing the latter.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Bad. Plot holes and character inconsistencies have generally made the show's progression too random.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Short-term idea? Or Cain leads them on another avenue?

    ReplyDelete
  74. The 100 - Like everyone else, I'm glad the adults are finally getting it on The 100. They sit around and debate while the 100 get things done. I like Abby and Kane more than I thought I would this season, but Clarke, Bellamy and their group are the ones who should lead, at least for now. Might end up as a bit of a power struggle, which could be fun, too.

The Flash - Fire and ice, huh? No foreshadowing there. And Cisco makes a new shield? What's that about? I also wonder how Iris will handle Barry's revelation. Please, let many people tell her they already knew. Because they did, and it's funny.

JtV - Get better, Abuela! Seriously, only thing I'm really thinking about - love her and need her to get better soon. :D

Arrow - I'm already so devastated by Dig and Felicity's reactions to losing Oliver and I haven't even seen them yet. And Laurel, this is it. This is your arc. I'm going into it hoping for you to come out an awesome character like everyone else on this show. It is also your last chance with me. If you are not an awesome Canary by the end of the season, I'm officially done with you. I'm coming in with an open mind (as best I can manage, anyway; I'm trying but I'm only human), but you have to pull through. You need to be an excellent hero, or prove you can become one; you need to do some team bonding and make at least one actual friend; you need to stop being such a b-word to everybody and acknowledge other people's problems during this difficult time; and you need to show why it was that Katie Cassidy was one of the original reasons I wanted to watch this show. Otherwise, you are the weakest link, goodbye - I am done with you and your drama for good.

  75. kerinda, how was your experience at the convention if you don’t mind me asking? :)

  76. Agreed with all of this. I do understand that Raven will be hurting very badly form losing Finn, and I feel so bad for her, but I hope she's not too harsh with Clarke. I hope she quickly understands that Clarke HELPED Finn, otherwise he would have been tortured for hours. Raven's plan to kill Lexa would have never worked. It would have gotten them all killed, instead of just Finn.

I'm always worried for Monty but I'm so happy he's going to be getting some decent screentime in this episode!

  80. Yes. Of course I feel bad for Raven losing Finn but I would much rather appreciate her being vulnerable and sad. And not irrationally angry at Clarke and whoever else. Alot of things she did and said in Spacewalker didn't sit well for me. So I need her to be upset for like an episode maybe 2 before praying she gets her head on straight. Atleast enough to stand with Clarke instead of against her. Obviously the biggest person to blame for Finn is Finn and I will totally stand by that. But if people are going to throw out blame..... Clarke,Abby,Bell, and Raven could all have played a hand in his demise either from a physical (giving guns) or a mental stand point. And if Raven's going to place blame on Clarke I'm just not cool with that. We shall see though! Hopefully someone just knocks off Indra cause she's stirring the pot and they need to move on Mt. Weather united ASAP

  81. My guess is 'turn to Metatron' since Cain isn't due til 10.14 and none of them (Dean/Sam/Cas) should even have a clue where to look for Cain now; Dean only knows where Cain was but Cain said he was leaving,

  82. Ha! You're probably not too far off track.

  83. Raven's probably going to see it as Clarke choosing Lexa over Finn. Now everyone from camp knows she was 2 feet away from the enemy leader and that she chose to kill one of their own instead (never mind the fact that they were ready to sacrifice him AGAIN to save themselves because of a crime he's supposed to have been pardoned for)

  84. So Claire is plotting revenge against Dean In Supernatural for killing her friend. Isn't this the same friend who gave her to that loan shark? Which is why she was nearly raped? Here's hoping Claire doesn't hang around too long. She's whiny, stupid and worse yet, not in the least bit interesting.

  85. I think Oliver's death' will push her away from team Arrow ( it's to painful ) and straight into the arms of Ray Palmer.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Lol you know thinking about it with killing Sara they kind of killed a possibility to intergrate Laurel into Team Arrow.
People like to say that Felicity was only around Team Arrow in season 1 & 2. But i must say the same can be said for Laurel and even worse, most of the time she is seperated from the rest of the characters. With Sara dead the constant in her life are Quentin, Oliver & now Ted. Thea & Laurel friendship was implied in season 1, but we havent seen much of if in the past 2 seasons. And MG hyped that we finally get an interaction between Felicity & Laurel that wasnt possible before. But all we got was are we friends, are we favor friends? So there wasnt much relationship building in that regard. And let me get it straight i am not the biggest fan of a Felicity & Laurel friendship, but they had opportunities to make those two more friendlier, but nothing actually happened. They could have used Sara to at least bring Felicity & Laurel closer. We saw Felicity & Sara friendship grow rather quickly.
So killing Sara so early they kind of killed of a possibility to show us some sisterly bond, a happier Laurel, a possibility to show Sara training Laurel or at least give her some tips like she did to Felicity in 2x14. Instead we got rage, anger, headlessness that we used to and that wasnt working before. I also dont understand why Laurel is choosing the vigilantism, its not like the justice system failed her, she didnt even choose to use it to find her sisters killer. We also have her telling Team Arrow dont tell Quentin my little sister is dead, but let me go and tell everybody else around me.

    ReplyDelete
  87. That's why it's such a bad written character. There are no facts to ground her choices. They just write her to do what it's needed on that episode to make her show up. Everytime you write any character, you must know that they develop through actions, not words. Words are empty, they must only be used to give voice to those actions the chaarcter makes.

A Laurel treated like a real person from the start, u know, one that doesn't pardon the man that cheated on her with her dead sister in the first episode... One without psychic abilities to believe he's a changed man... One who isn't from Gossip Girl or any bad teen drama, then she could just be an INCREDIBLE character: Just the thinking of playing with her trusting The Vigilante, yet hating Oliver... What a waste of a character.

I really don't know why Katie doesn't drop out of the show and stays as a recurring guest star as Black Canary.

  90. Rheinmeister09 .1 January 2015 at 15:01

As a recurring character she could go away with someone - maybe Ted; and become trained properly with some credibility compared to the way her character has been written to this point. But before that examples of the justice system failing her to push her into becoming BC would make some sense.

As an actress it must be incredibly frustrating to be the lead actress on the show but the writing for your character 3 seasons in has been handled very poorly.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Rheinmeister09 .1 January 2015 at 15:09

I think its because her character is so poorly written - it just doesn't make any sense that someone who works as an ADA seems to have ignored that path as a legit way to fight the bad guys. She is going to be a vigilante just because all the cool kids are doing it. Not sure what it is that the writers are seeing in her character "development' that the rest of us are missing - I guess we will see in a few weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Well, I mean no one actually believes he isn't coming back. So traction on that front is totally necessary in my opinion. They've jerked us around with this Oliver is dead crap already. It is poor form to treat your audience like they are stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I dont think Ted training her alone would be enough. She needs to be trained by much more badass people than him.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I would argue that "giving the fans what they want" and have Laurel become the Canary aren't the same thing!

    ReplyDelete
  95. I think Roy is just easier to ignore. He didn't have much going for him before and he's practically invisible (or unconscious) now. He doesn't affect anything. If he did, the annoyance would move off the backburner.

Laurel's best hope right now is Thea is even more annoying. And I'm furious they killed Oliver; therefore, Laurel's crap is at the bottom of my list. It's the perfect time to write her as smart, friendly, and useful.

  96. Rheinmeister09 .1 January 2015 at 16:24

Agreed but the only other alternative is The League and that's not going to happen. Ted Grant as far as the comics are concerned trained Batman and we don't know a huge amount about his background so they have the potential to build her up with some credibility if she went away for a few months and came back at the start of S4 maybe.

You know Jared said he would have liked to have more of demon Dean intell EP 10 and then fixed him but Jensen said the fans would have been tired of Demon Dean and would have got sick of him so he understands why the writers only did 3 eps and that was cool too hear. And Jared talked about why he does not want to direct at Ep .

  99. No, it's not. The moment you show it, it diminishes the wight of the other characters reactions. No matter if you know he is coming back eventually, wich he is. It immedialety changes the "how she will react to his death?" to a "how will she react to them meeting again?".
Right now, the focal point is Diggle, Felicity, Roy, Thea and Laurel finding out he's dead...

  101. Rheinmeister09 .1 January 2015 at 20:30

I think when they first conceived the show Oliver and Laurel were supposed to be the big romance on the show and she was supposed to be his leading lady to mirror the comics (I know they get divorced in the comics so to call her the leading lady in the show seems ridiculous). But as we all know Diggle and Felicity became more important to Oliver's story and now Roy than Laurel. I'm not a big fan of Laurel's character but the writers just seem to stumble with any character development for her from one season to another. If there was some way that she could go away and come back trained with something of a time jump (that's not going to happen) then maybe it would work. This is Oliver's show but her development is so disjointed from his that any time they do bring her into the fold it comes across as forced to a lot of the audience. I feel bad for Katie Cassidy because she is a good actress - but this is not a good example of her at her best. I can just see the backlash after the next episode if/when she is suited up. If memory serves she is signed to one of the studios - I'm assuming the WB so maybe she is hoping for a spin off when Arrow finishes and that's why she is so dedicated.

    ReplyDelete
  102. well to quote the EPs: Fans of Laurel & Katie Cassidy are gonna love it.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Yeah, she was the main love interest and that's one of the huge mistakes the writers made. They presented her as "the love interest" above everything else; and we are talking about a love interest on a awful relationship(A relationship full of Gossip Girl material), wich isn't Arrow's audience target.
"Leading Lady" is a "sophisticated way" to say "main love interest".
The character was born with one concept design, one that still is incompatible with a fast paced relationship with Oliver. There is no logical way for that character to pardon Oliver so fast. They wanted to sell the ridiculous "tortured love story", but to do so they made them interact with each other, making the viewer question Laurel's principles and values. Even worst, they wanted to bring her into Oliver's world(Not The Arrow, but Oliver) so they kept forcing her to change her basic core mechanics in order to find somewhere to fit: The worst example is in 2x14 when they have that fallout in the hallway and the next episode she is giving him friendly relationship advice(it's not even out of character because she doesn't have an "on character" side anymore).
The writers put her relationship with Oliver above the identity of the character. That's not how you write a character.
Felicity or Helena or McKenna or Sara were known as their own person who later morphed into love interest: When we met McKenna she was a cop first. Felicity was introduced as Oliver's employee, then as his friend and then as his partner for one full season to become a love interest on Season 2.

People ask what's wrong with Laurel? Well, that's it. It's not Felicity, the chemistry, the fans or Olicity... It's the show's own concept design.

About the chemistry, Oliver was suposed to be a stoick and wooden character at first. Remember that the first Felicity scene was a total break of character for Oliver. I think people took that as "bad chemistry" when it was a writing plot, one it's mentioned in 3x01's Olicity date: "You see everyone as threats...or targets...I didn't know how to turn that off".

So yeah, she was supose to be the main love interest and the second most important character... The problem is the writing is beyond repair for me now. What they have to do is just go on with the plan, make her Black Canary, do some serious "out of character damage with everyone" and see if the action scenes that are coming make people forget that.

If not, the best is take her off the show... Because she is taking screentime for other's character's development(Roy, for example. A character we still know nothing about and needs to get the "Felicity Season 3A treatment" ASAP).

    That was long jajaja

  104. Hopefully the positive word of mouth during Christmas hiatus helps it out a bit.

  105. How many are those?

Seriously, I never had a problem with Laurel like so many people did and I even defended her last year when everyone was hating on her. And I do like Katia Cassidy quite a lot from other stuff she has done. But killing off Sara, one of my absolute favorite characters on any show last year, for Laurel's sake is just very hard for me to swallow. It feels disrespectful to fans IMO, at least that's how I feel.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Rheinmeister09 .2 January 2015 at 13:02

Long but true....lol. I still find it difficult to understand how they can write such strong women everywhere else in the show but they get an iconic character like Black Canary so wrong. Traditionally the episodes after the mid-season break tend to show a drop in ratings - it worries me how much of Laurels story is going to bring those ratings down depending on how they handle it.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I know the Canary issue is a very divisive one, and a lot of fans will never accept Laurel in that role because they resent Sara being killed off. I too wish Sara had remained on the show as the Canary, although in a smaller role because I feel they overused her in the latter half of Season 2.

However, a lot of the criticism of Laurel's character is that she's useless and unnecessary, so if she actually suits up and starts to fight some bad guys and kick ass, I think that will get a more positive reaction from fans than what she's been doing for the past 2.5 seasons. I, though, wish it wouldn't happen so fat because if they were adamant on killing Sara off and passing the mantle on to Laurel, they should at least develop Laurel properly before she takes up the mantle. Otherwise, it's not a satisfying and complete character journey. (And I say that, again, with the asterisk that indicates I'd MUCH rather Sara was still alive and the Canary; however, I'm trying to stay open-minded about the direction they're going in and judge it on its own merits.)

    ReplyDelete
  108. I wont speculate, but that seems to be the company line regarding Laurels storyline this year. That her fans and KC fans will love it. The exact same line was said by AK, MG & even Stephen Amell. So must be this seasons slogan. And instead of integrating her into the show it still feels she isnt a part of the Arrow storyline once again.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Wouldnt she want to honor his name/his vision. I mean when Oliver disappeared after S1. Diggle & Felicity didnt just stop with protecting the city, they held their own. Also Diggle, Felicity & Roy will try to protect Thea or talk some sense into her regarding Malcolm. Apparently we have some Thea & Felicity scenes coming up. So i dont think she would just stop, because she would believe Oliver is dead.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I disagree. We already know whether we see it on screen or not. Acting like the audience thinks for one second that Oliver will stay dead is treating your audience like they are idiots. I for one don't like being treated like I've never watched a TV show before. I'm already annoyed that they emotionally manipulated me for no reason with killing Oliver. They need to have more respect for the fact that 1. We're here to see Oliver's story and 2. We f-ing know he isn't dead for good. So get on with Arrow already and quit messing around. Felicity and Diggle dealing with his absence will be just as impactful for the audience- nothing had changed. Oliver isn't staying dead.

  112. No, it's not! You don't get what i mean... something kinda hard to explain since english isn't my first language and my vocabulary is limited. He obviously is gonna come back and the audience knows it too... it's a narrative thing, it has nothing to do with the public perseption of the story. It's something to maintain what happens on-screen cohesive.

  115. Sara was one of my favorite TV characters during the last TV season, not just on Arrow, but as a whole. I really adored her. And I loved all the complicated relationships she had with pretty much everyone on the show. Maybe because I liked her so much I never felt that she was overused in the later portion of Season 2, although that is a criticism I have heard quite often.

Obviously I would never be happy with one of my favorite characters being killed off but I could accept it if I were to find compelling reasons for the show to do so. Killing her after having spent a year building her up and having fans fall in love with her just to have her de facto replaced by another characters, which is what is happening, isn't one of those reasons. So I will never be ok with Sara's death. I miss her, I resent Laurel because of it more than I would like to and I get furious with the show when I think about it too much like I am doing right now. I just find it very disrespectful to the fans.

This being said, I've somehow managed to compartmentalize this issue so that it doesn't detract me from enjoying one my favorite shows. I just realized that as much as I adored Sara and as much as I hate her death, I love Arrow more than that, so in order to be able to keep enjoying it, I had to let it go. So I am actually able, as contradictory as this may sound, to appreciate the Laurel character and journey. Especially because I was one of the few people to actually defend that character last year a bit. I never adored her, but I never had issues with her either as everyone else had. So in theory a storyline that develops her is something that should interest me. And I am indeed able to get interested in it. It's just too freaking bad it had to come at the expense of Sara, that's the truly sucky part. They had much better ways to do this. One scenario I thought of the other day would have been for a Canary arrest, revealing Sara's identity to the public and having her locked up for a while with her life pretty much in shambles. The justice system would have failed in that case in Larurel's POV and with Sara unable to fight and the justice system unable to hep her, she would then have a proper reason to take Sara's mantle under her guidance (still training with someone obviously). Sara could then escape prison at season's end and make recurring appearances. Well, like I said, too bad!

    ReplyDelete
  116. I don't disagree with any of that... I hate how they killed Sara off, it was such a "whatever, let's get this over with" moment. IF she had to go, she should've at least gone down fighting, in a blaze of glory. Instead, she came back for 5 minutes in the season premiere only to get randomly shot full of arrows and die. Nicely done, show. NOT.

I wish she had just stayed away with the League and came back occasionally for guest appearances (although I don't know why they had her go back to being an assassin and undo all of the redemption they had given her). That way, Laurel could still take on the mantle in her absence.

  117. Re: Supernatural--You've GOT to be kidding. Claire is plotting revenge on Dean for killing the guy who literally sold her to be raped? A man who possibly attacked Dean and tried to kill him? This can't possibly be real--we can't possibly be expected to believe that she's angry at Dean but not Castiel, who killed her father and destroyed her family without a second thought--over a man who thought so little of her that he was willing to let her be raped and probably killed in order to save his own miserable life. It's just nonsense.

  118. What is going to happen with Haley and Elijah, being a big fan of theirs I am a little nervous. They shared that scene and now they are not going to have a scene together, I guess more angst. And what is Elijah playing babysitter to Cami and Hope. I love seeing Elijah with Hope but he is not the kids father why don't Klaus or Haley stay with the child. Oh I know Haley is to worried about the wolves. Elijah spends more time with Hope the kid is not going to know who her father is. And is Cam going to know that Hope is alive. Is this going to be the Klaus and Haley show. I am sorry Elijah is one of the Originals he should be going. And when is Bonnie coming back its time for her to come back.

    TF: Prison Break mini reunion!
Arrow: I think Laurel will be a great version of the Black Canary.
The 100: I'm still so sad! Great to hear the grown ups are finally realizing who is in charge.
TVD: Honestly, it sounds boring. I hate this Stefan/Caroline will they/won't they thing. Either make it happen or stop it already! Enzo is a great character but poorly used right now.
    TO: Sounds good as always.

    ReplyDelete
  120. TO: I'm not sure I understand the logic of hiding Cami with Hope. The Originals have to have more than one safe house after 1,000 years of running from Mikael, and Finn was in a coffin for 900 of those years. This should have been one of the usual episodes that Cami isn't part of.

TVD: I wonder what Damon's plan will be. Maybe he'll try to hand over one of the witch twins to Kai, and Daddy Parker will show up at the last minute to stop him. I don't think what Stefan and Caroline are doing is about any ship. The world is bigger than ships, and not every fan cares about either one ship or another. Caroline will be desperate to cure her mom, Stefan will deceive Caroline, and Enzo will expose that deceit. This will be about family and revenge, and I'm pretty sure it's Sarah Salvatore that Enzo will fall in lust with.
