LOS ANGELES, December 15, 2014 – The epic final season of FX’s most-popular series, Sons Of Anarchy, set a ratings record as the most-watched season of any series in FX’s 20-year history. 1. I will miss the show, but glad it went out setting a new record!

  2. It was best that ended when it did since a lot of shows run way too long.

  3. I love how the majority of cable shows have a great final season ratings-wise aka this show and Breaking Bad that were never really breakout hits in terms of ratings during its run but explode for the final season. How come that doesn't happen with broadcast shows?

  4. Broadcast shows tend to go on forever it seems. They will have something like 8-10 seasons and by then everyone is sick of it.

  5. I disagree with that. Sons of Anarchy didn't explode this year. Sons of Anarchy gradually increased in viewership every season though unlike Breaking Bad which only saw a huge increase for the final season then a massive increase in the final 2 episodes. The last few seasons of SoA it was beating the shows on CBS, ABC and NBC week in week out in the 18-49 rating.

  6. I wonder how many of these viewers will tune in for Kurt's next show? I know I will.

  7. See I didn't follow Sons of Anarchy's ratings so I don't know how it performed each season, but as far as I know it didn't get anywhere near the series highs of its final season, and its final episode, so I'm just wondering where all the new viewers come from. I understand that people could have caught up and watched on Netflix etc. but then why doesn't that happen every time a show is announced to end? Why didn't True Blood get bigger ratings for its final season (though I'm guessing because a lot of fans disliked the direction of the show they just didn't want to tune back in) but it's a very confusing idea that certain cable shows like Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy can reach far new heights in their final seasons. I'd just love to know how.

  8. It actually didn't do any better than in previous seasons, the final season averaged around 4.5 million viewers an episode which it has done in previous seasons. Only the finale and premiere episode had higher numbers (6million+).

  9. It typically had it's highest viewership for the season premiere and finale each season the last couple of seasons but always stayed in the low to mid 2.0 18-49 rating for every episode beating the 3 main networks every week it was on. Every season premiere though it did increase in viewership throughout its run. Netflix and good word of mouth is probably how it grew every year. I always suggested the series to people when they asked for a new show to watch and I bet a lot of other people did the same.
