Sleepy Hollow 2x13 - "Pittura Infamante" (19-Jan-2015)
As Ichabod and Katrina continue to try and reconcile their fractured relationship, they attend a gathering at the Sleepy Hollow Historical Society, unaware that some new diabolical force – currently residing within a colonial-era painting – is also in attendance and has already begun to make its presence felt. The unknown evil force’s existence is made palpable by the untimely discovery of its first victim, the Historical Society’s art restorer, who has met a gruesome and seemingly ritualistic end. While Sheriff Reyes begins her investigation, Katrina – who has been experiencing a series of flashbacks brought on by her proximity to the familiar historical artifacts – begins to realize the true nature of the killer, and she and Ichabod embark on an investigation of their own. Husband and wife make the startling discovery that the murder may be the work of a colonial-era serial killer who had been imprisoned within the hexed painting, but soon realize the recent killing may in fact be the precursor to a far more deadly plan.
At the police precinct, officers are surprised by the sudden reappearance of fugitive and confessed cop-killer Frank Irving, but none are more shocked than Abbie, who believed her friend and former Captain to be dead, a victim of their recent battle with the demon Moloch and his minions. Abbie shares the news of Irving’s return with Crane, but the pair worries his return might have been facilitated by the dark arts, and question if his soul is still his to control. As Abbie tries to suss out the truth, she reveals the turn of events to Jenny, and the Mills sisters prepare for the worst-case scenario.

ReplyDeleteAs long as Frank is back, I'm okay with whatever explanation the show wants to give. That's how much I want the guy back on the show.

Not surprised, since they pretty much confirmed this already in interviews. Happy, though. I really didn't want Jones going anywhere. Curious as to how he's coming back, and how he'll be different.
ReplyDeleteNot as excited about the Katrina/Crane stuff. Katrina is useful, I'll give her that, but she is dull on top of dull. Maybe she'll find something more interesting to do post-Moloch. Not the most hopeful, though.

ReplyDeleteHis daughter was possessed, he lost his job, was arrested, he was put in a nut house he had to escape from, and he had his soul stolen right out from under his nose. Why shouldn't he be overwrought? Irving is probably the only character who has displayed an appropriate reaction and honest temperament toward the situation they're in.
ReplyDeletewhoa you're actually right, i mean Ichabod was put in a coffin for 200 years and he wasn't that scared right? i mean he was surprised but he didn't freak out, same with all the characters except for Irving so yeah you're right he's been through hell and people expect him to be okay?

Hopefully Nicole Beharie and the other talented actors can move on to more exciting and creative projects. I look forward to see them as part of interesting and creative stories but I will not subject myself to formulaic boring serial television. There are too many choices. BTW the pricier ad revenues are moving to the newer shows like Blackish and HTGWM in our market; a clear indication to the inevitable. The W Network leads with viewership so local fare tend to do better.

ReplyDeleteInteresting to see an Angel being introduced and we are still not sure on Frank's soul. I hope there is an interesting connection.
ReplyDeleteI love the flashbacks on SH so happy about Ichabod and Katrina's plot. I hope the writers will visit more on Abbie's time in purgatory. I'm sure there were spoiler tweets of the young sisters in a Dollhouse.
Looking forward to the second half of SH.
Looks like Goffman is trying to sneak Katrina in to replace Abbie as the lead and hope nobody notices. It's killing the show. The only thing interesting about this is Frank's return though it isn't surprising. Looks like Abbie will be left to deal with it in a side-plot while Ichabod and Katrina investigate a bunch of meaningless bullcrap that's all about them.

ReplyDeleteFor me, I will not be tricked into watching Katrina and increasing their ratings. I will tape and and watch it the next day while fast forwarding through Crane Drama and commercials. IMO Sleepy Hollow will get what it deserves at this point, NOTHING. At this point I feel that Nicole, Lynn and Orlando should just move on to other projects. I can not say anything about Tom because right now the focal point is on (via Katrina or not) him and I do not feel that he is greatly effected by what is going on. Maybe he prefer to stay in this type of limelight. Who really knows what is going on? Just saying.....
ReplyDeleteThis is deliberate on the part of the writers. The show runner's favorite character is apparently Katrina, so in order to push what he must now know is a very unpopular character, he does it in the episode he brings back Frank in and has Abbie and Jenny working together.
ReplyDeleteIt's deliberate so that he can have an excuse not to kill her off like Fox might demand given the ratings and how the Katrina character tanked the ratings.
That's why I refuse to watch. If people on the message boards say that it's a good episode to watch, I'll do it later - on iTunes. I refuse to give them ratings while they push Nicole to the supporting role on her own show. Nope.
When has Katrina ever been useful? She's a nurse and a witch and couldn't keep Frank from dying before - he's only back now because Henry owns his soul.

ReplyDeleteBest to watch on demand. DVR'ing it would only have Goffan use the L+3 results for justification for what additional plans he has in showing StruggleWitch down everyone's throats for S3. Its Heroes circa seasons two through four all over again and Katrina is this decade's Skylar

ReplyDeleteOh heavens no! I love Irving - that's why I'm mad that he was reduced to basically a c-plot all season only to "kill" him off and now he's more "B-plot", imo. This show thinks Katrina is more interesting for some reason. Ratings disagree.
ReplyDeleteThis is one episode. I don't think they are going to replace the team. They are the witnesses. But it does help to find out what Katrina can do and to integrate her into the team. She obviously has powers Abbie does not.
ReplyDeleteCheck the introduction. She's always been a main character. Partners don't live in each others' laps. They need a life to fill in the rest of the character profile. What you want is Scooby doo and I'm way past cartoons. Maybe when Abbie gets a life of her own, you people will leave it alone. Your constant whining makes me want to put you all in a time out.

ReplyDeleteI don't like Abbie much and I never have. From the lies that put her sister in a mental hospital for 15 years, to the lack of genuine remorse on her part. Just sign the conservatorship and we'll be square. If there was a truth here, the sister would have left her in the dust. She's pushy, arrogant and seems incapable of any real emotions other than hate. Will she tell Crane about the revelation as to their true duty as witnesses? No, because she's all about revenge right now. She had a bad childhood, and has been redeemed, so she's good to go. Crane, on the other hand, is readjusting his entire life based on over 200 years of being "out of touch". He has one person he can identify with, his wife. I don't think she's dull, I think the love story angle is lovely, but they have not brought her along quickly enough because they had to get the Abbie family reunion done first. I agree, they are not pulling her into the fold fast enough, but I do think they are balancing the Abbie character's revenge sensibility with Katrina's nature to want to save others. That's hard to do with people don't understand the heart of what the series is really about. It's not a monster hunt. It's good vs evil, hate vs love and revenge vs compassion and the need for family. That's it. It's so simple. So, the writers need to pull Katrina into the fold where she belongs, and get on with it. Irving, frankly I dont' know what the big deal is with his character. He's a police chief with his own family problems, but he's not really very interesting. Oh and one more time for the hard of reading THE SHOW IS CALLED SLEEPY HOLLOW....NOT ABBIE & COMPANY.
