Episode 2.12 - "Paradise Lost" (05-Jan-2015)

Six weeks following Moloch’s defeat, Crane remains skeptical that their supernatural foes have indeed all been conquered, while Abbie takes solace in the fact no new enemies have yet revealed themselves. Despite this, Ichabod seems focused on recent reports which indicate there is something foul still afoot in Sleepy Hollow. Upon further investigation, the Two Witnesses discover a new, dark undertaking that is underway on the outskirts of town. In the wake of the events that transpired the night of Moloch’s death, the relationship between Ichabod and Katrina has grown increasingly strained. Adding to the stress between husband and wife is the fact that their son, Henry Parish, has not been seen since. Further consternation arises from the fact that during their separation, Katrina has been spending an increasing amount of time in Abraham’s company and, unbeknownst to her husband, is working to reverse the spell that has bound Abraham to the avatar of Death in a bid to restore his humanity.

Meanwhile, Crane and Mills meet a new and unique ally named Orion, who brings news of a residual effect of the Lord of Purgatory’s defeat. At first pleased by his arrival, the pair discovers Orion – and his true motivations – may not be as benevolent as first assumed.

SPECIAL GUESTS:

MAX BROWN as Orion
MATT BARR as Nick Hawley
NEIL JACKSON as Abraham Van Brunt

  1. Dammit!! I quite like Ichabod and Katrina's devotion to each other as a married couple, so it's hard to see that their ship is in quite rough seas. I fear this will lead to more Katrina hate piling on :(

  2. Already can't wait for it to come back. I miss it! And I luke the idea of a Moloch-break. And I love more sneaky Katrina, because I still can't help wanting her to go bad. Come back soon, Sleepy Hollow!!

  3. Many hate on Katrina not just because of her secrets but because they want Abbie and Ichabod to be together. I really hope the writers don't go that route.

  4. My worst case scenarios keep playing out this season. I'm so exhausted with this family melodrama and the ever-dissolving Crane marriage. I liked Katrina but, just as I thought they would, they've turned her into just as much of an obstacle as a character.

Can we please get back to the basic premise of two witnesses fighting the coming apocalypse and knock off the soap opera crap?

  5. You know darn well the main reason that most fans hate on Katrina is that the character is USELESS and a waste of screen time.

    ReplyDelete
  6. The so called 'Epic Love' is boring and the sooner it is over, I and a quite bit of others can rejoice. The show should not be a soap opera.

    ReplyDelete
  7. It seems that she has indeed moved forward with Abraham. I think that she has more chemistry with him. The soap opera mess needs to be dropped. Move on with the apocalypse or whatever.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Okay then nobody should rejoice if they put Ichabod and Abbie together then.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Maybe but I see a lot of shippers online using that reason so I don't think it's the main reason.

Personally I liked Katrina and didn't think her screen time was wasted until the whole drama started up with the secrets straining their marriage.

And many fans disliked her way before that so it might be a void reason there.

  10. I personally ship Abbie and Crane but to say Katrina is useless is so utterly false and if anyone who pays attention for the story and not because of ludicrous shipping fantasies would understand this. You don't have to like her but whenever I see people talk about how she adds nothing to the show make me laugh because it's so obvious that it's nothing more than an emotional response from not getting what they want to be seeing. Lol

  11. It can't be all apocalypse all the time. No one is going to watch a show that doesn't give the lives of its characters as much importance as the supernatural happenings. Fringe was way more of a soap opera than Sleepy Hollow has been. (Oh and it was awesome too.)

  12. No, they need to expand the world of the town and add more dynamics. It increasingly feels the events of the show occur in some bubble and they have done such a poor job of giving the town an identity it seems like the apocalypse is only affecting the core cast. And they can't stop the "drama" because then there'd be no emotional connection to the show. Just watching two people fight monsters, and not have actual lives or emotions, is not a show.

  13. I vehemently disagree with all of this.

    1. A good show is perfectly capable of expanding its world without getting itself distracted from their own basic premise. SH has failed in that regard.
    2. Family squabbles and marital melodrama do not have a monopoly on drama. There are a plethora of other ways to create it without resorting to soap opera plotlines.
    3. Season one (where Ichabod and Katrina were apart and the Henry reveal didn't happen 'til the finale) proved that you can create an emotional connection to lead characters without delving into this mess. Anyone still watching Sleepy Hollow by episode 1.13 were emotionally invested without any of this driving it.

  14. This.
Do I think they should do more with her character? Yes. I want her to get her witch powers back, I want her working with the others, or if she's going to stay with Abraham, I want to see more of her spy abilities being put to use, or see her plotting ways to manipulate Abraham to get whatever information she needs (they've touched on that to some degree, but it'd be great to see more of it). I won't disagree with those who want to see her out of the damsel in distress role.
But she's Ichabod's wife, and mother to one of the four horsemen, so yeah, she DOES serve a purpose. And yes, she lies and is mysterious and we're not always sure whose side she's on. I think that makes her more fascinating as a character. I like that this show poses the question of who to trust amongst family and friends, it keeps things interesting.
I'm fine either way on the shipping front when it comes to Ichabod/Abbie or Ichabod/Katrina. I like both pairings, I like all three characters. I like the devotion the Cranes have to each other, and I also adore the fun, bantering, opposites attract nature of Ichabod/Abbie. I'm fine with the show going whatever route it wishes on the platonic/romantic front, so long as I know whatever happens is what THEY want to do, and not the result of fan pressure one way or another.
I don't think everyone's dislike of Katrina is automatically tied to shipping preferences, either, no. There are valid critiques of how she's written worth taking into account. But is it the reason for some people's hatred of her? Oh, yeah. And that's not really a good, valid reason to hate a character and want them gone. Sorry to those who think it is. Shipping isn't the be all, end all of this show, either, so anyone who makes that a big focus of their viewership, well, they're bound to be disappointed on that front.

  15. I agree. I feel like it's been hijacked. I'm more with Anncat though when It comes to Katrina, I find her useless. From the way the writers are writing her she's more of a screw up that a witch. Not to mention, her constant fixation on Abraham is tiring. If she was really in love with Ichabod she would be focusing more on him. I feel like the writers are always creating some excuse for her to go back to Abraham when she really does not have to.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don't feel that she's useless, just misused. I do however, agree with your general dissatisfaction. Katrina could have been much better and more entertaining than Sleepy Hollow has seen fit to make her so far.

    ReplyDelete
  17. This season has been awful.

    ReplyDelete
  18. More useless bland Floptrina? Like that has worked so well for the show. Give me more Mills sister, bring back badass Irving and send those terrible Cranes to the past out of my sight, where they can bore each other to death. I don't care about their marriage, they are the worst couple on television and they are ruining the show with so much focus on their endlessly dull drama!

    ReplyDelete
  19. They should focus less on ichabod-katrina's never ending marriage melodrama & spend more time showing ichabod-abbie-jenny-hawley kickass demon hunting(s) IMO!

    ReplyDelete
  20. A lot of credible critics also think she is useless, so it is just not the fans. If her 'mentor' (Goffman) respected her character he would give more credible creditable scripts instead of making her a damsel in distress. But HE HAS NOT. and therefore she IS USELESS and holding the show back.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I stand by what I said. SHE IS USELESS. And nothing will change mind mind when it comes to that character. I will also add, BORING.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Why do you keep lumping criticism into being a shipper? Get over it already. I guess all of the established critics who think like I do are all shippers. The character is a hot mess and should be improved or removed.

    ReplyDelete
  23. From what I have read very few care about the Crane Family Drama. The script surrounding them is repetitive and boring. WASH.RINSE.REPEAT.

    ReplyDelete
  24. That is the problem. THEY ARE NOT EXPANDING THE WORLD. It is the Crane Family Drama just about every episode. Enough already.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm not saying all shippers are like that or all people who dislike her are shippers, just saying that's the majority I see online.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Huh! Your reply does not make sense. So, from your statement, 'the majority you see online are shippers' establish that YOU ARE making out that they are the only people to dislike Katrina, which is not true.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I just went with personal experience. Nobody goes to every site.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I loved season one of this show sooooo much. I loved the dynamic between Abbie and Ichabod, I loved how they were equal partners. Loved their chemistry. I loved the scary apocalypse. I loved the communication between Abbie and Ichabod. They always told each other everything, were always honest, never hid anything for cheap drama purposes. I loved them together and didn't really care if they were romantic or not - I just loved their scenes together.
I also loved the perfect diversity of the cast. I loved Jenny, and Irving, and Andy and Luke.
My love for the show has greatly diminished since season 2 began. I hate watching struggle witch lie and fall down and fail and mess up everything. I hate the crane family drama. I hate how all the good characters have been sidelined in favor of the white characters. Hawley is not needed since Jenny can do anything he can do and do it better.

There's a petition on change.org intended to try and get the focus of season one back and to try and save the show. Go sign and tweet, facebook it, if you'd like.

  29. I like hawley very much, thanks but no thanks.I appreciate your intentions towards the show but i think you are going a little overboard with your racial discrimination talks.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well the result you arrive at from your personal experience is skewed. You should not make blanketed assumptions which are not true. AND you do not know everyone to be able to state that they go to every site or not.

    ReplyDelete
  31. And still you do not get I said "many, some, a lot" not "all" for this reason. Really this has just got out of hand.

    ReplyDelete
  32. No, you do not get it. No matter how you slice it your assumptions are skewed and bias. As far as things getting of hand I consider the matter closed and addressed as far as I am concerned.

    ReplyDelete
  33. There has definitely been that element in the social media I have seen and it drives me crazy. I'm not saying that people can't have a valid reason for disliking Katrina, but to say that no one dislikes her because she disrupts their favorite ship is obviously untrue. I read tweets of people who wanted Katrina dead so Ichabod and Abbie could hook up by the third episode. We barely knew her then.

    ReplyDelete
  34. funny how perspective can change opinion. I'm a casual viewer of this show, I watch it on and off, certainly not every episode and I only know the gist of the story. I can't say I'm too attached to any of the characters. and..
Katrina is actually the only character I find interesting, didn't even realize that fans don't like her LOL. she's mysterious beautiful powerful and out of this era, whats not to like.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Okay, if you see something good about the character good for you. But I will stick to my perspective of the character, useless. Also, I do not think she is powerful and mysterious at all. She is a one note character. But if you like that kind of character knock yourself out.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I will change my opinion of the character when she IS developed more as a character. Right now she is simply a waste of screen time.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I couldn't agree more with you Joy Haldar, an can I also add how disgusting it is to see fanboys/girls use a website designed to help real people with real deep issues concerning their lives, helping with inquests, legal aids, mental health issues, wage disputes, political matters, NHS Issues, war aid etc. To be used over a fictional show with fictional characters proves how some people have too much time on their hands.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ya,sad truth.Well said.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I am so over the Crane family drama. I want to keep watching, but the focus on them is boring. I really loved S1, and used to like Katrina, but this season has made me really dislike the character. S2 is just not what I was expecting.

    ReplyDelete
  40. More marital issues? Really. Ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  41. It is embarrassing and ridiculous considering the negative feedback from reputable critics and fans.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Me neither. I prefer them really close friends. But I still never liked Ichabod with Katrina. Not just because of her secrets. From the moment they met, she started to decide everything about both of them. She decided all the important things and never even asked Ichabod´s opinion. Well, why she even married him then? And then Henry and Abraham. I know it was about the spy thing, but when your wife constantly prefers company of her ex and what is worse, keeps defending him, while he constantly tries to kill you, what kind of relationship is that? And let´s not forget all the horrible things Henry did, how many people he killed. No matter his reasons to turn to the dark side (all villains now have excuses), he doesn´t deserve forgiveness, but punishment. The people he hurt had parents too. But everytime Ichabod considers that he shouldn´t be cuddled for it, she acts like he is the horrible person around Sleepy Hollow.
