Today's Early Overnight Ratings

This table shows the early overnight ratings. These ratings are normally adjusted later in the day when all the ratings have been consolidated to take into account any local preemptions and/or overruns. You can find all the final adjusted numbers in our Ratings Database. (See the About section below for details about ratings)

Early Ratings Analysis

The analysis below is based on the early household numbers and are NOT the same as the numbers that will be posted in the above table later. (See the About section below)

For more information on the Nielsen Ratings see this Wikipedia Entry.

———-

Note: The following labels are based on the household overnights and are subject to change given the availability of other pending data streams. The overnights are your first look at what to potentially expect when the other results come in. And we always take into account other benchmarks including the expected demographic ratings, potential DVR usage, the critical acclaim (or lack of) and the social media presence. Keep in mind, as always, that results for any live sporting event are always approximate.

-Winners:
“Sunday Night Football” (NBC), “60 Minutes” (CBS)

-Honorable Mention:
“I Love Lucy” Christmas Special (CBS), “The Simpsons” (Fox)

-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Resurrection” (ABC)

———-

Ratings Breakdown:
NBC won this first Sunday in December with ease, thanks to the 13.9 rating/22 share in the household overnights for the New England Patriots at the San Diego Chargers on “Sunday Night Football” (from 8:30-11 p.m. ET). The peak half-hour was a 15.1/23 at 9:30 p.m. Comparably, this was the second-highest rated “Sunday Night Football” match-up in the metered markets in the last seven weeks (since the 14.8/24 for San Francisco versus Denver on Oct. 19).

Earlier in the evening on NBC was pre-game “Football Night in America” at a 1.6/ 3 at 7 p.m. (#4), a 3.1/ 5 at 7:30 p.m. (#4) and a dominant 8.3/13 at 8 p.m.

In the specials department, the second annual “I Love Lucy” Christmas Special on CBS, featuring colorized editions of the Christmas episode and the classic “Job Switching” scored a solid 6.2/ 9 in the overnights from 8-9 p.m. (out of an 8.3/13 for “60 Minutes” from 7-8 p.m.). Comparably, that was seven percent above last year’s telecast (5.8/11 on Friday 12/20/13, featuring the Christmas episode and “Lucy’s Italian Movie”). And that translated into 8.71 million viewers and a 1.4 rating/5 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live Plus Same Day data.

Next on the Eye net was recent returnee “The Mentalist” at a compatible 5.9/ 8 (#2) for the final season at 9 p.m., followed by veteran “CSI” at a second-place 5.2/ 9 at 10 p.m. If “CSI” does conclude this season, and there is every reason to believe it might, let’s hope CBS gives it a final official episode.

Elsewhere, it was Sunday overnight business as usual on ABC (which is not necessarily a good thing) with its combination of veteran “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (#3: 3.3/ 5 at 7 p.m.), demo friendly “Once Upon a Time” (#4: 3.9/ 6 at 8 p.m.), sophomore “Resurrection” (#4: 2.8/ 4 at 8 p.m.) and “Revenge” (#2: 3.4/ 5 at 10 p.m.), which still managed to increase by 42 percent from failed year-ago time period occupant “Betrayal” (2.4/ 4 on 12/08/13).

Fox got a boost, meanwhile, from the 16.1/26 for a primetime football overrun in the 7 p.m. half-hour, followed by post-game “The OT” at a 12.6/20 at 7:30 p.m. Next was granddaddy “The Simpsons” at an above-average 4.7/ 7 at 8 p.m. (#3), which should translate into a low-3 rating among adults 18-49, followed by “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (#4: 3.2/ 5), “Family Guy” (#3: 3.1/ 5) and recently relocated “Bob’s Burgers” (#4: 2.2/ 3) from 8:30-10 p.m.

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above (We also where possible now post the 18-34 and 25-54 Demo Numbers).

  1. Crossing my fingers for revenge

    ReplyDelete
  2. CSI is up ! Mentalist seems to have a good effect as a lead-in !

    ReplyDelete
  3. That will be a low 2s for OUAT again.

    ReplyDelete
  4. is the Frozen plot over ?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Next week, the Frozen plot will be over. But we will have three new villains: Ursula, Cruella De Vil and Maleficent.

    ReplyDelete
  6. That may explain the low... Frozen brought a lot of fans !

    ReplyDelete
  7. Yes TGW is a completely incompatible lead-in for CSI. It's the reason why Cyber is going to Wednesday nights now. CBS does not want to let that potential hit gets dragged down by tepid TGW.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Well, it was the big final of the frozen arc.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Hoped that Once would bounce back! Hoping for some 2,4

    ReplyDelete
  10. OUAT seems pretty low, but nothing too serious yet. Revenge seems to have recovered a bit. And Resurrection... well, we all knew it was done for

    ReplyDelete
  11. My Predictions

    OUAT-2.2
    Resurrection-1.0
    Revenge-1.2

    I Love Lucy-1.5
    The Mentalist-1.5
    CSI-1.4

    The Simpsons-3.1
    B99-2.4
    Family Guy-2.4
    Bobs Burgers-1.6

    ReplyDelete
  12. to be honest, they did shit with CSI this year and they probably know it (it did far better on Wednesday)... If it returns next year, it's probably going to be moved from this horrible timeslot !

    ReplyDelete
  13. taht sounds good ! Let's hope it's going to keep the audience ! That Frozen plot was a great and smart move to bring a new audience !

    ReplyDelete
  14. FOX Sunday is gonna die without football

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hoping for at least a 1.2 for revenge

    ReplyDelete
  16. Pray for a better rating for OUAT, last night'so episode was pure perfect, it deserves a good rating!!!!

And The Mentalist, hope it won't go down bec CTV aired ahead:(

    ReplyDelete
  17. I hope OUAT scores around 2.4/2.5.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I don't really trust HH I will wait for TOP 25

    ReplyDelete
  19. I do think CSI will get a short and final season but it so sad that CBS had to drag it out like this (it should have ended a couple of season ago, now its like a sick dog waiting to be put down)

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm hoping for that too. This season has actually been great. I thought adding Frozen to the series would hurt it but the ratings went up and the story-lines have been good. Rocky in an odd place but still really good. Can not wait to see what the second half of the season brings!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. OUAT was fantastic I hope it went up. Do Sunday cable ratings come out today or tomorrow? I can't remember, I really wanna see how The Librarians did cos I really loved it :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm still thinking revenge holds a 1.0

    ReplyDelete
  23. Me too.Last season the peter pan arc was awful IMO but this year has been great so far.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Top 25 Markets 18-49 Demo Ratings have been posted

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh sh*t, the "Ratings analysis" numbers seems to be the same for OUAT this week than last. I hope it is at least a little higher I don't want it to end badly (last year OUAT has it's lowest numbers for the midseason finale).

    ReplyDelete
  26. My guesses are 2.1 for OUAT, 1-1.1 for Resurrection and 1.1 for Revenge.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I am really afraid about the January airings though. Resurrection will be even lower than usual most likely sans the OUAT lead-in support, not to mention the extra competition from events season. I understand why ABC wouldn't want Revenge back at 9pm for just a handful of episodes only to move it back to 10 when Secrets and Lies premieres but it would really be better I think. The worst part is that it is also the time by which the writers probably need to know if they write a series or season finale, so it's not a great time to have horrible ratings :/

    ReplyDelete
  28. Everybody, let's pray that Revenge does 1.0 and above in January and doesn't get affected by its atrocious lead in Resurrection.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Revenge might get a small bump (1.3 to 1.4) because of the death thing.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I hate to be pessimistic but I would say 2.0 for OUAT.. I hope not.

    ReplyDelete
  31. lets hope so, cross my fingers. last year it did well in january without ouats lead, cause the hype helped it. lets hope that the hype will help it again this year.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I would love to see those numbers but I doubt based on these top 25 markets. On average, Revenge's final numbers are 88% of its top 25 markets ratings this season so a 1.30 should translate into something between a 1.1 and a 1.2 IMO. It's always possible that deviations occur in these, this is not a perfect prediction method, but normally it correlates okay.

    ReplyDelete
  33. true, revenge is usually like a tenth or 2 lower then its top 25

    ReplyDelete
  34. I highly doubt that CSI gets a timeslot upgrade. IMO, it either gets outright cancelled (which I am thinking is less likely) or it gets a mentalist-treatment kind of final season in which it is used to bridge the hiatus of other shows. A move to a weekday won't happen IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  35. A but higher for revenge but not high enough. How was the episode I still have to watch it

    ReplyDelete
  36. Prepare to be heartbroken

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hopefully once maintained or went up it was a really great episode... Loved seeing old Regina and then when the curse was lifted all of them laughing about it was perfection... I am gonna miss Elizabeth Mitchell her character was all around fantastic... Hopefully the trio of villainesses coming up do not disappoint as I am looking forward to them (my favorites)

    ReplyDelete
  38. lets hope for at least a 1.2

    ReplyDelete
  39. I have to watch it again but the ending was superb

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh god you guys are making me so excited i cannot watch tomorrow i will have to mind the Internet :(

    ReplyDelete
  41. No matter what you do, do NOT go on the article "What did you think of Revenge" midseason finale until you have seen it. LOTS of spoilers. Only hint I'm going to tell is that Revenge comes back in January, where it'll come back earlier but will get low ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  42. OUAT was more than superb as well! It gave me chills!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Spot-on top 25 predictions on Fox! Nice!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh no :( i cannot wait

    ReplyDelete
  45. Except it has actually done OK when it hasn't had a football lead in so far this season

    ReplyDelete
  46. Why thank you! I was shocked as well!

    ReplyDelete
  47. You should stay away today. I think someone is bound to accidentally spoil you about who dies. Avoid tv by the numbers at any cost. I did not appreciate the choice of the person who died, but the episode itself was very well done and I loved the ending

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ratings are now being entered on to the table

    ReplyDelete
  49. an UPGRADE?? it will go BACK TO ITS OWN SPOT ON WED AFTER CSI CYBER IS DONE

    ReplyDelete
  50. well as of last night it was still on..

    ReplyDelete
  51. 1.2 for revenge :( at least it is up by .2

    ReplyDelete
  52. not bad considering how low it was last week

    ReplyDelete
  53. Bounce back OUAT is a 2.1 & it needs to bounce back ? yet Revenge is a 1.1 & thats is recovering???? whatever

    ReplyDelete
  54. Why are you shouting? I highly doubt CSI gets back to that slot. If Cyber fails this year, CBS will simply launch a new drama there next fall.

    ReplyDelete
  55. 2.0 for OUAT.. It has to be up. It's not in danger but at least it would end on a better note.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I accidenetly went on US Weekly and they actually have a revenge Post so i fast clicked away. Puh

    ReplyDelete
  57. because of the Brass idea of moving ot to sunday & constant Football overrun you seriously think they will cancel a show for that... LOL

    ReplyDelete
  58. WTF happened to The Mentalist? Luckily fans don't have to worry about ratings anymore

    ReplyDelete
  59. also avoid the promo it gives it away big time

    ReplyDelete
  60. What's going on with ouat why is not going up

    ReplyDelete
  61. What worries me is not OUAT's drop on the 18-49 front, but its drop on the 18-34 front. Last week it did like a 1.7 with the same 2.0 rating on 18-49, and now it is down 3 tenths. OUAT was becoming more and more valuable because of its high 18-34 and now it seems like it is losing that crowd

    ReplyDelete
  62. Half hours?

    ReplyDelete
  63. i agree now OUATS drop is really starting to worry me. could this be a sign that all of the frozen fans left?

    ReplyDelete
  64. ABC has been off this last wk or two

    ReplyDelete
  65. The hell is going on with OUAT. Although a lot of people last night on tumblr said they were going to watch The Librarians live instead of OUAT, I doubt that would have a huge effect though.

    ReplyDelete
  66. A 1.2 is pretty decent for Revenge IMO. It's outgrowing its lead-in at 10pm which is very hard to do. Also, for a show that started the season with a 1.3 and is still at 1.2 in December after the shows before it have crumbled more than 1 full point each... that's worth something IMO. OUAT had another bad night. It's still doing wonderfully compared to where it was a year ago but it's not very promising for the second half.

What the hell happened with the mentalist? This is probably its most unimpressive performance to date. I mean, it used to do better at 11 pm airing out of the good wife, no excuse for this horrible performance at 9pm from a passable lead-in.

FOX had an okay night. B99 is almost on Family Guy levels again. I like it!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Unless those tumblr people have Nielsen boxes then it would have zero effect

    ReplyDelete

  69. Guess some people already watched Mentalist bec of CTV so they won't watch it live again:( or any delay last night?

    ReplyDelete
  70. OUAT tends to do better in the spring

    ReplyDelete
  71. about ratings, I'm not really "good" in it to understand if they are good or not, because I'm from a foreign Country. Have my twinsister and I to be worried about OUAT? would be glad, someone could explain me a little about. Thank you in advance

    ReplyDelete
  72. No need to be worried, it will be renewed.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Good for fox but then again there's no football in the spring

    ReplyDelete
  74. OUaT's ratings are good enough to bring it another season, probably even the season 6.

  76. How do you know?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Ouch at Once. I thought it would rebound from last week..

    ReplyDelete
  78. The Mentalist week to week drop is truly bizarre!

    ReplyDelete
  79. The lead-in is like 4 millions weaker.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Because people won't watch it live again when they already watched online imo.
    THANK YOU CTV ;______;

    ReplyDelete
  81. Look at last year ratings plus no football which means all the other nets tend to do poorly

    ReplyDelete
  82. Ratngs tend to fall in spring. The reason it went up last spring was cause the Wicked arc was well received by fans

    ReplyDelete
  83. The only reasons why OUAT did good last spring was because:

    (1) The Wicked Witch arc.

    (2) The highly rated and highly anticipated first season of Resurrection

    (3) Amazing Race dropping because of fatigue, NBC's low rated American Dream Buiders and FOX comedies because of football.

    ReplyDelete
  84. The show used to build on its good wife lead-in when was airing after 10pm, sometimes even after primetime was over. That's why it's strange to me that it could withhold the lead-in drop.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Not really. It only happened in Season 3 because the peter pan arc was widely rejected while the wicked witch arc seems to have better received. Seasons 1 and 2 had worse numbers in the Spring.

    ReplyDelete
  86. OUAT started the season with a 3,5 and constantly falling in the demos.while Revenge started with 1,3 and was 1,5 max this year 1. SO I think there is a clear difference. Either way Revenge is dead, eventually it could get a shortened season 5.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Let's just hope that B99 wouldn't have a new series low in the spring. NBC is also in trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Airing earlier in another country has zero-effect on ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I agree a 1.2 is great considering its way higher than year ago occupant Betrayal and it grew 2 tenths from Resurrection.

Revenge is doing well all things considered.

    ReplyDelete
  90. And this year it looks like the three villains has a lot of hype

Fox will again collapse without football
CBS will also likely go back down

And Resurrection had no effect on ONCE

    ReplyDelete
  91. Yh I know that wouldn't, just thinking that nielsen box owners would have the same idea if so many others did, mid-season finale next week anyway hopefully it will be up for that!

    ReplyDelete
  92. There's no football in the spring so B99 will likely be back in the 1s

    ReplyDelete
  93. That's fine. Its relative performance is likely to remain unaffected as the other FOX comedies will take a hit as well.

    ReplyDelete
  94. But I saw people said that bec they've watched the episode already so they won't watch it live on CBS. It won't hurt rating? :(

    ReplyDelete
  95. In my opinion, the best thing about last night's rating is that it kind of positions Revenge as a utility player capable of basically doing the same uninspiring but okayish ratings regardless of the situation. And Revenge's best shot at a renewal is for a utility player role (either on this very slot in the fall while ABC fixes 9pm slot or for midseason to when something else bombs). So remaining consistent and growing from its lead-in are very important things for the show to do right now. If it does this in January when it will have probably the worst conditions it could ever have, it probably scores a renewal.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Unless they are a Nielsen family it has zero effect.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I have a feeling B99 won't have a new series low this spring, especially since its with the FOX Sunday comedies now. Remember its current series low is a 1.2 I think. How is NBC in trouble this spring? They're gonna have the Golden Globes, Superbowl and then The Bible AD and The Odyssey.

  98. OUAT has neglected many of its regular characters throughout this Frozen storyline, and I think it's turned off a lot of viewers. Rumple only makes brief appearances as a cardboard villain, instead of the interesting gray villain/anti-hero we've seen over the course of the show. It's a waste of the character's development and of Robert Carlyle's talent. Regina was MIA for parts of the season and has been stuck mostly in a kind of blah storyline with Robin Hood. Belle wasn't in the two-hour episode at all, and only appeared in a cameo (asleep) in last night's episode.

  99. If anything, it shows how smart it was for ABC to go with split seasons again for this show. 11 episodes from each arc clearly work better. Regardless of the arc, I think people will be more receptive to trying out whatever new fresh thing they give us in the spring. At least for the first episodes.

  100. I'm actually interested to see what they do with cruella, maleficent, and Ursula. a lot of exciting things are going to happen in the second half of the season. your right it is smart for abc to split seasons for ouat. but just wish that they could do the same for revenge.

  101. At least Once is steady, hope it goes up next week & think it will. While I'm a little suprised it didn't rise this WEK,I didn't expe t it to go up as much as others did(2.4).Great episode.

  102. GG and Super Bowl are not Spring

post super until Easter will be dead

We have no idea how Odyssey will perform

  103. I wouldn't call it neglecting, OUAT has had characters appear and disappear since the beginning, there are just too many characters to put all of them in one episode. Personally I prefer it that way, it mixes it up. I was surprised they made Rumple a full on villain but im sure they have their reasons. The Robin/Regina thing could have been a lot worse, I expected it to be in pretty much every episode along with Hook/Emma so Im glad it wasn't. As for Belle I agree they need to make an effort to include her more, I'd like Ruby back and for Belle and Ruby to have some sort of story together.

  104. ITA' the Pan arc was terrible but the Frozen/Snow Queen arc was awesome

  105. steady OUAT at least I think it can still be safe.

  106. But how do you know they aren't Nielsen family? The chance is 50/50 right?

Anyway I shouldn't worry about Mentalist's rating. It's our last season after all:)

  107. thank you so much, but I'm honest, they are too complicated for me to understand, because English isn't my first language. Anyway, spoilertv.com is our favorite/first site to read every morning :-)

  110. With this arc structure, though, they only have 11 episodes to tell the story. And because the "Frozen" storyline didn't just introduce one guest villain (e.g., the Wicked Witch arc), a lot of time was devoted to the backstories of Elsa, Anna, and the Snow Queen. That was time taken away from its core characters. I think that Rumple's backslide could make a lot of sense in the wake of what happened to him in S3 (Neal's death, enslaved by Zelena, resurrected from death), but the writing hasn't taken the time to show any of that. Agreed about missing Ruby. A Belle/Ruby friendship would've been fun.

  111. why people leave ouat next to midseason :(

  112. I agree with you. Personally I didn't care about Frozen story, since I'm not a fan of the movie. It was ok, but not jaw dropping. I missed regular characters during 4A, especially Regina. We've barely seen her. And Belle was like nowhere to be seen(or seen only in 2-4 minutes of the episode if she is even shown). And, there was too much Emma. Also, I'm afraid of 4B because we have 3 new villains, so their backstories will once again take time from main characters. As much as I like all 3 new villains, I hope they will spend more times developing the main characters and their stories.

  113. That's true there were a lot of extra characters this arc, but now that they are leaving they'll probably balance it out by giving the missing characters more screen time (like Mulan is coming back). But with three villains in 4B there will more than likely be characters that don't get much screen time again (not necessarily the same ones though).
The only reason I thought of for Rumple's story is that they are setting him up to be the big bad but it seems far too early for that.

  114. Let's see the good things here: OUAT is steady. And do better than last year at this point.

  115. I think a renewal is pretty sure. Sunday 10pm is a dead zone for all the nets.

I guess what's up in the air is if the renewal will be a 13 episode "spackle" renewal or if ABC just gives it a full season while they fix Sunday 9pm and Tuesday's.

  116. You're welcome! I am from a foreign country as well and I hadn't known how these things work before I started watching OUaT. Then I learned and started following ratings news on regular basis :)

  117. The ratings for B99 make me so happy, considering how terrible a lot of comedies are doing its great its holding steady.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Odyssey will be paired with AD so if it performs as well as History Channel's Vikings did in that slot than NBC is fine.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I agree. B99 has been really good this season too!

    ReplyDelete
  120. funny, I never checked before (watched NCIS, Castle, Mentalist, Ghost Whisperer, Without a Trace) then came OUAT, completly felt in love and now I check every week and try to understand.
    Again, many thanks

  121. OUAT is low yes but it should still be safe even if it'd reach 1.5 right?

    ReplyDelete
  122. OUAT would be safe even if it would do 1.5 right?

    ReplyDelete
  123. I am not surprised that OUAT ratings are sliding a bit. While the Frozen story has been somewhat entertaining and intriguing in parts, it is the regular characters that keep fans coming back and their stories. In my opinon that has been sorely lacking so far this season. Some of the regular characters have had minutes per episode or not at all and their characterization has been questionable to me. The stories I have wanted to see this season so far have been pre-empted by Frozen. In past arcs, the villians or stories have included more of the regular characters. I have like the casting of the frozen characters but have to be honest, I am hoping that the next arc is more about the regular characters.

  124. Once is far from being in danger. Season5 is a sure deal. They will probably rise again if tgey promote the future story well enough.
I personally would wish for them to change it's time slot/Wednesday 8pm preferably/ but doubt it will ever move.

  125. Not CSI beating Mentalist in demo and almost beating it in ratings x)
God I feel like CBS is really doing bad this year...

    ReplyDelete
  126. I don't think you'll be happy with season four b then, it'll be about Knave,Cruella,Ursualla,Makeificient with Captain Swan and Outlaw Queen plus Golds sl with the sorcerers hat and Reiginas search for the books suthor.

  127. Last years Pan ark was weak and I think a lot of that had to do with OUAT in Wonderland stories had to be split focusing on 1 show has been a stronger for storyline and the show

    ReplyDelete
  128. Agree with you there. Once Wonderland finished, the Wicked arc was amazing and better than the Pan arc. The writing on the Pan arc was really rocky, no real moving forward with Pan, just our main characters dealing with their issues, arguing and a lot of walking. More action was needed for the Pan arc, I think. But the final 3 episodes of the Pan arc were amazing and, for me anyways, made up for the weak arc.

  129. I read that Mulan isn'it coming back and I am pretty sure that came from Adam. I thought he said her story was done.

  130. Hi! I've seen you post a lot concerning Once's ratings, and I'm here to help you out and calm your nerves.
OUAT is a very steady show, in terms of ratings (episode quality is another matter entirely...). I believe it's only behind the TGIT block in terms of ABC shows, and that's what matters in terms of renewals. Once will most certainly get renewed (unless it drops down to, like, a 0.5, which it is far from doing). Could S5 be its last? Possibly, but that depends on ratings and how much money Once makes for ABC. Plus, the creators mind want it to end by then.
Trust me, you have no fear over whether or not it gets renewed. :)

  131. Welcome to the Club! I am from a foreign country too, OUAT has many fans out there.

    ReplyDelete
  132. thank you :-) my husband and younger sister love OUAT so much too, unfortanely they can't English as my twinsister and I. I always show them the episodes and explain. But it's a pity: in German we have to wait always so long, now still running season 3, just now begun with 3B, very frustrating for both
