This table shows the early overnight ratings. These ratings are normally adjusted later in the day when all the ratings have been consolidated to take into account any local preemptions and/or overruns. You can find all the final adjusted numbers in our Ratings Database. (See the About section below for details about ratings)
The analysis below is based on the early household numbers and are NOT the same as the numbers that will be posted in the above table later. (See the About section below)

Ratings Breakdown:
Had “The Sound of Music Live!” not aired on the year-ago evening, a dominant 5.9 rating/9 share in the household overnights for “Peter Pan Live” on NBC (with Allison Williams and Christopher Walken) would have been considered a success. But, comparably, this trailed “The Sound of Music Live!” (10.9/18 on 12/05/13) by a considerable 46 percent. And that 10.6 in the overnights for “The Sound of Music Live!” translated into 18.62 million viewers and a 4.6 rating/13 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live Plus Same Day data.
While “Peter Pan Live!” did finish first in each of the six half-hours, it also declined in each 30-minute interval with erosion from the 7.4/12 at 8 p.m. to the 4.6/ 8 at 10:30 p.m. of 38 percent. Here is the half-hour breakdown:
“Peter Pan Live!”
8:00 p.m.: 7.4/12
8:30 p.m.: 6.8/10
9:00 p.m.: 6.0/ 9
9:30 p.m.: 5.5/ 9
10:00 p.m.: 4.9/ 8
10:30 p.m.: 4.6/ 8
The bottom line: The growing bandwagon of live network musicals (including upcoming “Grease Live” on Fox) may be short-lived.
On CBS, a repeat of “The Big Bang Theory” at 8 p.m. (#2: 6.2/10) led into a 5.5/ 9 for “Mom” at 8:30 p.m., which resulted in overnight retention of a positive 89 percent for Ana Faris and Allison Janney (and company). But the Eye net’s questionable freshman “The McCarthys” at 9:30 p.m. (#2: 4.2/ 7) held only 79 percent of its “Two and a Half Men” lead-in (#2: 5.3/ 8 at 9 p.m.), which still resonates in this final (and truly idiotic) season. And older-skewing “Elementary” scored a second-place 4.6/ 8 at 10 p.m., which was 19 percent below the 5.7/ 9 on the year-ago evening.
In season-premiere news, two-hours of ABC cooking competition “The Taste” was anything but…um…tasty, with a flat 2.5/ 4 in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m. And that led into very distant third-place 2.1/ 3 for an encore telecast of “How To Get Away With Murder” on ABC at 10 p.m.
Elsewhere, veteran “Bones” on Fox (#3: 3.7/ 6) led into a typically sluggish 2.5/ 4 for “Gracepoint” at 9 p.m., which actually inched past the second half of competing “The Taste” by one-tenth of a rating point in the overnights. And the ongoing year-to-year overnight erosion continued for CW combo “The Vampire Diaries” (#5: 1.5/ 2) and sophomore “Reign” (#5: 1.0/ 2), which is unlikely to see a third season.

Thats pretty bad bad for Peter Pan! ABC must be missing TGIT right now LOL, even TGIT might have beaten Peter Pan Live!
ReplyDeleteUgh why didn't CBS air an all-new Big Bang? I need Mom to have higher ratings that those.
ReplyDeletePowerful episode of Reign but it's sad that people don't see what this show's got.
I really hope TVD holds steady on that 0.8.
ReplyDeleteNo Tvd!
ReplyDeleterise Tvd
ReplyDeleteHahaha Reign
ReplyDeleteI hope that HH rating means Bones got at least a 1.4.
ReplyDeleteIt still won the night. It's probably NBC's highest rated non-sports program since Sound of Music last year.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking 1.5. :)
ReplyDeleteSo I calculated and may be off, but I think it's something like
ReplyDeleteTVD 0.77 which is a 0.8
Reign 0.51
Bones 1.52
True but I am sure it is pretty expensive to put on
ReplyDeleteGrasping for straws much, Marc?
ReplyDeleteI like Mom a lot but 89% retention out of a repeat vs. 79% retention out of a new episode is pretty negligible.
Yikes at NBC's Peter Pan.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Elementary is holding steady at around low 1's.
Glad to see Reign's rape plot backfired. I was disgusted that was no warning for it before the episode aired. It seems they clearly did to boost the ratings. I hope now it gets cancelled.
ReplyDeleteReign's rape plot is one of the few instances when the show actually follows history. What's so bad about it?
ReplyDeleteDid NBC really think that Allison Williams would being in viewers?
ReplyDeleteAgain Peter Pan still won the night. It's probably NBC's highest rated non-sports program on Thursday since Sound of Music last year.
ReplyDeleteWOW The Taste Flopped - Given all the abc promotion it should have done at least a 1.5
ReplyDeleteYes it won the night but the numbers are unimpressive
ReplyDeleteThat still doesn't invalidate the fact that it performed more poorly than I'm sure NBC had hoped.
ReplyDeletePretty sure they wanted Sound of Music's numbers (or next to those)
Unimpressive? Thursday will pribably be NBC's strongest night this week because of Peter Pan.
ReplyDeleteA 2.6ish for 3 hours of programming isn't bad.
I don't think ABC expected all that much.
ReplyDelete1. It had no competition
ReplyDelete2. Given the amt of promotion it received it should have done better
3. It only did half of what Sound of Music did last year which had more competition
The Taste will be doing .07's soon- they might have been better just repeating TGIT
ReplyDeleteCBS was apparently preempted in Chicago & Dallas for football.
ReplyDeleteExcept it didn't really. Mary was never raped in France. Though it was believed she may have raped by her third husband. Just my opinion though.
ReplyDeleteYep. Those numbers are definitely inflated.
ReplyDeleteIt's in its third season, so it didn't really flop. It is serving it's purpose which is cheap filler programming.
ReplyDeleteThe Sound of Music had massive hype plus curiosity bc it was new plus Carrie Underwood. Anyone who expected those ratings again were kidding themselves.
ReplyDeleteThose half hour drops for Peter Pan are quite alarming and tell me it was as bad as it looked
ReplyDeleteYou're a pitiful piece of work.
ReplyDelete2.3 for PPL.
ReplyDelete2.3 is really embarrassing IMO
ReplyDeleteNo way Elementary hit 1.8 out of the blue. Way way inflated.
ReplyDeleteVD 0.7, Reign 0.5
ReplyDeleteBones 1.5, Gracepoint 0.9
ReplyDeletecan't be TVD deserve higher...this season is amazing!!!
ReplyDeletepretty sure its gonna adjust down
ReplyDeleteA few tenths, I think.
ReplyDeleteCBSlooks way inflated
ReplyDeleteBBT 2.3, Mom 2.5, Men 2.5, McCarthys 2.0, Elementary 1.8 (remember preempted in Chicago & Dallas)
ReplyDeleteI was about to post the same. Elementary is oddly high
ReplyDeletehope for Mom & mccarthys doesnt go down alot
ReplyDeleteI am guessing cbs was preempted
ReplyDeleteI knew those Elementary numbers looked odd!
ReplyDeleteThose numbers are severely inflated. I think all show will adjust down a few tenths.
ReplyDeleteThey will for sure.
ReplyDeleteChicago and Dallas #3 & #5 markets. Bet those adjustments are gonna hurt.
ReplyDeleteFull Tables posted
ReplyDeletePeter Pan halves: 2.7/2.8/2.5/2.3/2.0/1.8
ReplyDeleteVery good for a NBC Thursdays, but waaaay down from Sounds of Music
I hope MOM doesn't adjust down too much
ReplyDeleteI think the biggest adjustment downwards I've seen is 6 tenths, that would leave Elementary in its usual numers. If it adjusts down 5 tenths or less it is a big win, otherwise it is as it has always has this season
ReplyDeleteGO TVD!
ReplyDeleteBones :)
ReplyDeletethat matches a series low so there is nothing to celebrate
ReplyDeleteand I hope more next week:)
ReplyDeleteWhat in the world are those CBS ratings? How many preemptions were there? I would be shocked if the finals aren't like 0.5 lower for all of them.
ReplyDeleteThe Taste did worse than I expected, hopefully for ABC it rebounds next week with a weaker NBC.
Questions of the Week
ReplyDelete1) Are Mom and Brooklyn 9-9 truly breakout second season hits, or are their cushy time slots simply propping them up?
2) What do you think about the ever-more-popular split season that many network dramas now have?
3) With ratings declining this week, do you think shows should end for the holidays a little earlier?
4) Should FOX's failures this season be blamed on CEO Peter Rice, ex-CEO Reilly, or both?
5) With The Voice on the decline, is NBC doomed going forward? Only The Voice and The Blacklist are managed to rate 2.0+.
Very likely! So pump for the 200th episode!
ReplyDeleteThere were two preemptions for CBS, Chicago and Dallas which are big markets, so the finals adjust down quite severly
ReplyDeletelooks like reign's decision to rape it's female protagonist worked. Really weird how people will tune back into a show to watch a woman raped
ReplyDelete1. Time slot are helping a lot - the real breakout for me would be The Goldbergs
ReplyDeleteTVD matches a series low while Reign jumps up to 0.5? Seems kind of odd to me...
ReplyDeleteCause people wanted to watch the very racy scene of Mary, the protagonist of Reign, get raped.
ReplyDeleteI honestly didn't think that would effect ratings at all :/
ReplyDelete1. Timeslot are really propping them up, but they would do acceptable levels on their own (1.8 for Mom on its own probably and 1.4 for B99)
ReplyDelete2. It is far more comfortable to have split seasons and airing the episodes more constantly than having random repeats and unorganized schedule.
3. They should end by something around December 15 not later than that.
4. Both, neither of them made really good calls and haven't been able to handle the downward spiral FOX is in.
5. Nah, NBC is fine. It has plenty of solid players. Chicago Fire, SVU and Chicago PD can reach 2s from time to time and most of the time they deliver good ratings. The Voice may not be a great hit anymore but it still does quite good and The Blacklist still has chances for success on Thursdays and may be able to launch a show on its own. NBC is not doomed, at least not yet
Me too. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is somewhat surprising to me that TVD hasn't been able to hit at least 1.0 all season long. Didn't think season 5 would drive away so many fans
ReplyDeleteCongrats to CBS!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI know the show drove me away! At least they can stop claiming that it's the competition that's hurting their ratings.
ReplyDeleteMajority of fans hated seasons four & five, tuned out and aren't coming back.Plus, another ratings site mentioned spring ratings become fall ratings and that seems to be true.VD was getting 0.7-0.9 last spring now this fall.
ReplyDeleteThat show deserved a 0.2
ReplyDeletethey're inflated by football preemptions, expect downward adjustments
ReplyDeleteThey were majorly inflated. All of the shows will go down at least two or more tenths.
ReplyDeleteWow VD almost tied Abcs Taste ,it will if VD adjusts up lol.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it seems like the last episode above 1 was on 3/20 this year, scoring a 1.1. That was episode 16. Since then TVD has been below 2 million viewers and 1s on the demos. I wonder what that episode did to allienate fans so much. Why did they call it a quit exactly on episode 16?
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping Elementary will be able to maintain a season high in the finals. Looks pretty good for Bones and Reign, hope these two won't adjust down.
ReplyDeleteOne of those fans was me. I hated Season 4 and 5.
ReplyDeleteSome became sick of Delena or how it was hsdeled(Elena sleeping with Damon the day of or day after her breakup with Stefan),some are upset Kstherine was killed off,Others may have been watching out of habit then finally stopped.
ReplyDeleteThe third and forth markets, meaning the adjustment will be huge.

I don't watch any of their thursday shows so i do not really care :D
ReplyDeletesarcasm?
ReplyDeletePeople seem to have constant problems with Reign's ratings. It does bad 'haha lol, cancet that sh@t right now', it does good 'people are sick to watch it'.
ReplyDeleteI was so confused and happy for Elementary until I read that the CBS ratings are inflated, aww
ReplyDeleteTVD is having an average season this year. Still uneven in spots. But seasons 4 and 5 were horrible, and this season hasn't been strong enough to lure them back.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Reign went up from that horrible 0.3. Still it has a low chance of renewal but i like the show.
ReplyDeleteTVD steady tho the episode was great. It deserves more. Im enjoyning this season more than the last one. (thanks Bonnie for that).
DAMN CBS had a horrible night.
2.I love the split season schedule.Yes it's hard to wait the long time in between but it's far better having the episodes on regularly with little interruption during the blocks rather than the annoying on off on off schedule.
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree
ReplyDeleteIf The 100 and Supernatural had that retention out of a repeat, they would be losers to him.
ReplyDeleteIT was good toll season 3. Since then it is bad and it is getting worse. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteAye. I hatte season for.stayed till around 5x7 but then I really couldn't stand it anymore
ReplyDeleteWhat in the hell are those CBS numbers? That is some serious, serious inflation.
ReplyDeleteIf that's true, it's extremely disturbing. Then again, when I searched YouTube for a scene from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, one of the first search suggestions was Hermione being tortured. The misogyny...
ReplyDeleteFor me, the TVD is still good. This is the only series that I watch and love.
ReplyDeletei want Elementary not to adjust down ;(
ReplyDeleteno sh*t
ReplyDeletewhat the hell 0,2 hhhhh the season deserve 1 in demo
ReplyDeletesad for TVD ,
ReplyDeleteAnd we all know how this feels. Who hasn't a fav show? I just can stand it anymore. Doesn't man that other People can still love it but it has lost a lot of viewers.
ReplyDelete
