This table shows the early overnight ratings. These ratings are normally adjusted later in the day when all the ratings have been consolidated to take into account any local preemptions and/or overruns. You can find all the final adjusted numbers in our Ratings Database. (See the About section below for details about ratings)
The analysis below is based on the early household numbers and are NOT the same as the numbers that will be posted in the above table later. (See the About section below)

Ratings Breakdown:
Had “The Sound of Music Live!” not aired on the year-ago evening, a dominant 5.9 rating/9 share in the household overnights for “Peter Pan Live” on NBC (with Allison Williams and Christopher Walken) would have been considered a success. But, comparably, this trailed “The Sound of Music Live!” (10.9/18 on 12/05/13) by a considerable 46 percent. And that 10.6 in the overnights for “The Sound of Music Live!” translated into 18.62 million viewers and a 4.6 rating/13 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live Plus Same Day data.
While “Peter Pan Live!” did finish first in each of the six half-hours, it also declined in each 30-minute interval with erosion from the 7.4/12 at 8 p.m. to the 4.6/ 8 at 10:30 p.m. of 38 percent. Here is the half-hour breakdown:
“Peter Pan Live!”
8:00 p.m.: 7.4/12
8:30 p.m.: 6.8/10
9:00 p.m.: 6.0/ 9
9:30 p.m.: 5.5/ 9
10:00 p.m.: 4.9/ 8
10:30 p.m.: 4.6/ 8
The bottom line: The growing bandwagon of live network musicals (including upcoming “Grease Live” on Fox) may be short-lived.
On CBS, a repeat of “The Big Bang Theory” at 8 p.m. (#2: 6.2/10) led into a 5.5/ 9 for “Mom” at 8:30 p.m., which resulted in overnight retention of a positive 89 percent for Ana Faris and Allison Janney (and company). But the Eye net’s questionable freshman “The McCarthys” at 9:30 p.m. (#2: 4.2/ 7) held only 79 percent of its “Two and a Half Men” lead-in (#2: 5.3/ 8 at 9 p.m.), which still resonates in this final (and truly idiotic) season. And older-skewing “Elementary” scored a second-place 4.6/ 8 at 10 p.m., which was 19 percent below the 5.7/ 9 on the year-ago evening.
In season-premiere news, two-hours of ABC cooking competition “The Taste” was anything but…um…tasty, with a flat 2.5/ 4 in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m. And that led into very distant third-place 2.1/ 3 for an encore telecast of “How To Get Away With Murder” on ABC at 10 p.m.
Elsewhere, veteran “Bones” on Fox (#3: 3.7/ 6) led into a typically sluggish 2.5/ 4 for “Gracepoint” at 9 p.m., which actually inched past the second half of competing “The Taste” by one-tenth of a rating point in the overnights. And the ongoing year-to-year overnight erosion continued for CW combo “The Vampire Diaries” (#5: 1.5/ 2) and sophomore “Reign” (#5: 1.0/ 2), which is unlikely to see a third season.
