“Greatest Holiday Commercials Countdown” (CW)

Ratings Breakdown:
Note: The football match-up on ESPN last night was the Miami Dolphins versus the New York Jets.
Minus ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” in the competitive mix (which concluded its fall edition last week), NBC rose to the top of the Monday overnight charts. Two hours of singing competition “The Voice” scored a 7.4 rating/11 share in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m., which was 17 percent above the 6.3/ 9 one week earlier and on par from the year-ago evening. With stronger lead-in support, episode three of NBC drama “State of Affairs” perked up to a second-place 4.8/ 8 at 10 p.m. Comparably, that was 23 percent above the 3.9/ 6 one week earlier. But, before NBC gets overly optimistic, keep in mind that regularly scheduled “NCIS: Los Angeles” on CBS was pre-empted last night for an encore telecast of “Scorpion,” which finished third in the hour with a 3.3/ 5. And this is still a double-digit dip from former time period occupant “The Blacklist.” Three-week overnight track for “State of Affairs”: 6.0/10 – 3.9/ 6 – 4.8/ 8.
TVMI’s prediction for “State of Affairs”: Don’t get too used to it.
Tops at 10 p.m. was “Castle” on ABC at a 5.6/ 9, which dropped by a minor seven percent from the 6.1/10 in the overnights one week earlier.
In the specials department last night was “CMA Country Christmas” on ABC and “Greatest Holiday Commercials Countdown” on The CW. “CMA Country Christmas” was on the map with a 5.8/ 9 from 8-10 p.m., fluctuating by only three-tenths of a house rating point in the four half-hours. Comparably, this was 26 percent above the 4.6/ 8 for this annual holiday special on the year-ago evening (from 9-11 p.m. ET). And that translated into 7.38 million viewers and a 1.5 rating/4 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live Plus Same Day data.
“Greatest Holiday Commercials Countdown” on The CW, meanwhile, finished a distant fifth in the 9 p.m. hour with a 1.0/ 1. Comparably, that was equal to a repeat of animated holiday lead-in “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer” and a slight improvement over regularly scheduled occupant “Jane the Virgin.” But a 1.0 rating in the overnights is still…well… a weak 1.0.
Elsewhere, CBS was hoping to whet the appetite for the return of “Mike & Molly” next week (at 8:30 p.m. ET out of “2 Broke Girls”) with a four-episode repeat marathon that fared in the overnights as follows:
“Mike & Molly” R (CBS)
8:00 p.m.: 4.1/ 6 (#3)
8:30 p.m.: 3.7/ 6 (#3)
9:00 p.m.: 3.4/ 5 (#3)
9:30 p.m.: 3.5/ 5 (#3)
Chances are “Mike & Molly” will fully maintain (if not slightly build) from “2 Broke Girls” next week…and beyond.
Fox capped off the night with a repeat of the pilot of freshman “Gotham” (#4: 2.0/ 3) into a 2.9/ 4 (#4) into an original installment of “Sleepy Hollow” at 9 p.m. Given the expected lack of lead-in support, why “Sleepy Hollow” was not also a repeat last night is a mystery.

Looks like NBC perked up last night, but there was really no competition
ReplyDeleteIt is no mystery why Sleepy Hollow wasn't a repeat considering the 8pm has 23 originals to air throughout the season (22 Gotham + Following series premiere) and the 9pm hour has 32 (18 Sleepy Hollow + 14 The Following).
ReplyDeleteBoring night. Good job for The Voice though. Can't wait to see how CBS, FOX and CW lineups do in January against The Bachelor and Celebrity Apprentice.
ReplyDeleteMonday Night Football?
ReplyDeleteThere was really no broadcast competition, compared to last week NBC didn't really have much to compete with
ReplyDeleteOuch for SH, does HH don't look to great
ReplyDeleteCastle always seems to dip w/out DWTS
ReplyDeleteFortunately, Fox has far bigger ratings problems. SH should be okay for renewal.
ReplyDeleteOh man castle not looking good
ReplyDeleteState of affairs not down from last week and Ouch castle
ReplyDeleteSofA might get a pity renewal.
ReplyDeleteThe Voice is up a lot from last week, yet State of Affairs is not (add to that SOA didn't have to deal with Presidential preemptions this week).
ReplyDeleteOverall not looking good for SOA.
Not really, last year there were weeks when Castle brought better ratings than DWTS. It had 1.7-2.1 ratings after The Bachelor while 1.6-2.1 ratings after the spring DWTS series - no mentionable difference. The only episode which went without a contest show lead in was The Belly of the Beast, and it got 1.6, the same as Veritas had.
ReplyDeleteThat's possible, but I think a pity renewal of TMOL is more likely.
ReplyDeletei think it will get the pity renewal if it stays above a 1
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure. It didn't really do that great last night considering there was less competition and the Voice was up nearly half a rating point.
ReplyDeleteThe Voice looks like it will be a 2.9/3.0 but that is without any competition
ReplyDeleteI still NBC should bring it back in March not Feb 23, to give it time to breath. Plus NBC is in a much stronger state that they won't die without it
Surprised that State of Affairs went up.
ReplyDeleteI'd argue that NBC still depends heavily on The Voice.
ReplyDeleteSoA: 1.6, Castle: 1.6??? What do you guys think?
ReplyDeleteSleepy Hollow did great last night considering it had a repeat as a lead in.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely a sure renewal on Fox
So the CW aired two specials last night, one low-rated and one extremely high-rated. Seems unlikely, probably one of Marc's mistakes again?
ReplyDeleteThey have Chicago Fire and Blacklist. Both will probably do high 1s for the rest of the season, and those are their biggest shows. I wouldn't say NBC is in good shape, the football inflation is why it's #1 right now, I think scripted shows its behind ABC and CBS
ReplyDeleteYes but since they are airing a two hour premiere, one of those will air at 8, hence leaving 14 hours to be aired in the 9 pm timeslot.
ReplyDeleteIt's better than 3 years ago when the only shows they had that could get above a 1.5 were Parenthood and SVU.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope you're right. It's one of the only shows on that I have to watch without fail the night it airs (usually on DVR, but as soon as I get the chance to sit down, I watch it).
ReplyDeleteAh yes...The CW's annual airing of Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer. Happens every year without fail. >.>
ReplyDeleteCastle did a 1.5 and State of Affairs did a 1.6.
ReplyDeleteHalf hours for State of Affairs: 1.7/1.4
ReplyDeleteThe Voice really took a hit in this later half of the season. Wonder why.
ReplyDeleteFull tables entered
ReplyDeleteMike & Molly repeated fantastic; it's going to have a good rated premiere next week
ReplyDeleteCBS can always count on M&M.
ReplyDeleteGwen Stefani is boring as hell and she's skewing the show old.
ReplyDeleteAlso the talent is lackluster.
That is okay for state of affairs! Bad for castle
ReplyDeleteSOA will probably adjust down.
ReplyDeleteGwen Stefani isn't anymore boring than Christina (who I happen to hate).
ReplyDeleteand how about revenge? how the show did last Sunday? does anybody has the ratings?
ReplyDeleteMike and Molly is always a very good repeater. This summer it was CBS's best repeater not named TBBT.
ReplyDeleteChristina kept the show interesting. You probably haven't watched a season where Christina was in it.
ReplyDeleteI have. But I dislike Christina (both as a person and as an entertainer)
ReplyDeletehttp://www.spoilertv.com/2014/12/ratings-news-1st-december-2014.html
ReplyDeleteI think the FX syndication might help ratings perk up this season too!
ReplyDeleteGood for Sleepy Hollow, hope it'll not see 1.4 again this season.
ReplyDeleteDamn castle why is it so leading dependent in its 7th season its a damn fine show
ReplyDeletenot so bad for Castle, it is still the 2nd best show for ABC at 10pm. !
ReplyDeleteI expected the drop since Castle's ratings are never really good in December. Hopefully it will be back up in January.
ReplyDeleteI agree, but nowadays a 1.8 is not a bad thing for Castle:)
ReplyDeletelol defensive much?
ReplyDeleteNot good for Castle. Could next season be the last?
ReplyDeleteThe Voice is really down in the back half this cycle.
SofA is not doing good. Don't see NBC ordering more episodes
SOA wasn't on last night. It's on tonight.
ReplyDeleteSoA isn't on till tonight.
ReplyDeleteSleepy still same :)
ReplyDeleteState of Affairs, not Sons of Anarchy.
ReplyDeleteWell that's really confusing then cause when I see SOA I immediately think someone is talking about Sons of Anarchy and nothing else.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, State of Affairs won't be around long enough for people to remember it.
ReplyDeleteSleepy up yay I mean!
ReplyDeleteI'm talking about State of Affairs. Don't you mean Agents of SHIELD (AoS)?
ReplyDeleteSons of Anarchy
ReplyDeleteToo soon to say about Castle. In fact, these are the veterans that have a 50-50+ chance of ending next season on CBS, ABC, and FOX and the list is pretty high
ReplyDeleteCBS—CSI, Good Wife, Ekementary, H5-0, Person of Interest, Mike & Molly, 2 Broke Girls
ABC—Revenge, Castle, The Middle, Nashville
FOX—Idol, New Girl, Mindy, Bob's Burgers, Bones, the rest are too hard to call
Obviously they won't all end, but some will due to age and/or ratings. Keep in mind I only included shows that are syndicated or will be syndicated by that point
No I meant SoA Sons of Anarchy.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing to worry about Castle. It always dips after Thanksgivings. It seems like viewers do not watch after the start of the holidays.
ReplyDelete
