CBS 5.8/ 9
ABC 5.1/ 8
NBC 4.8/ 8
Fox 2.7/ 4

-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Wednesday 12/11/13:
NBC: +26, ABC: + 9, CW: – 6, CBS: -15, Fox: -27

Note: The following labels are based on the household overnights and are subject to change given the availability of other pending data streams. These overnights are your first look at the ratings and a precursor to what could lie ahead. And we take into account other benchmarks including the expected demographic ratings, potential DVR usage, the critical acclaim (or lack of) and the social media presence.
-Winners:
“Survivor” (CBS), “The Middle” (ABC), “The Goldbergs” (ABC), “Modern Family” (ABC), “Black-ish” (ABC), “Criminal Minds” (CBS)
-Honorable Mention:
“The Mysteries of Laura” (NBC)
-Tired:
“Hell’s Kitchen” (Fox)
-Losers (excluding repeats):
“The 100” (CW)
———-
Ratings Breakdown:
CBS topped this second Wednesday in December, besting No. 2 ABC by 14 percent in the household overnights. And most improved remained older-skewing NBC at a year-to-year rise of 26 percent thanks to its drama combination of freshman “The Mysteries of Laura” (#3: 5.3/ 8), veteran “Law & Order: SVU” (#3: 4.7/ 7) and sophomore “Chicago PD” (#2: 4.4/ 8), which trailed competing “Stalker” on CBS (#1: 5.0/ 9) by 12 percent. Comparably, “The Mysteries of Laura” and “SVU,” on average, were 28 percent above two-hours of year-ago occupant “The Sing-Off” (3.9/ 6 on 12/11/13). But a 1.8 rating/5 share among adults 18-49 for “The Sing-Off,” based on the Live Plus Same Day data, will be stronger.
To the masses, including myself, who may have complained that this edition of CBS’ “Survivor” is not one of the better fall seasons, last night was truly exceptional and all the more reason to believe that this ageless franchise will last indefinitely. “Survivor” scored a 5.8/ 9 in the household overnights from 8-9 p.m., which was eight percent below the 6.3/10 on the year-ago evening. And it led into 6.5/10 for veteran “Criminal Minds” at 9 p.m., which was first overall for the hour in the overnights. Year-to-year, “Criminal Minds” slipped by 12 percent (versus a 7.4/12 on 12/11/13).
Although aforementioned “Stalker” did lead the 10 p.m. hour, the 5.0/ 9 was 28 percent below year-ago occupant “CSI” (6.9/12 on 12/11/13). As a reminder, upcoming “CSI: Cyber” will be stepping into the Wednesday 10 p.m. hour effective on March 4 (when “Stalker” takes a break).
“Modern Family” was the Wednesday standout, as always, on ABC, with a 6.8/11 in the 9 p.m. half-hour (#1 for the evening). Comparably, that was 36 percent above lead-in “The Goldbergs” (#3: 5.0/ 8 at 8:30 p.m.), which remains a vast improvement over failed year-ago occupant “Back in the Game.” And it led into a 5.1/ 8 (#2) for freshman “Black-ish” at 9:30 p.m., which is also significantly stronger than failed year-ago occupant “Super Fun Night.” While ABC has improved its sitcom fortunes on Wednesday, positioning upcoming “Fresh Off the Boat” as the Tuesday 8 p.m. anchor is a suicide mission.
Earlier in the evening on ABC was “The Middle” at a 5.8/ 9, which tied the first half of competing “Survivor” on CBS. And modest drama “Nashville” scored a typical third-place 3.9/ 7 at 10 p.m.
Elsewhere, two-hours of Fox’s tired “Hell’s Kitchen” averaged a 2.7/ 4 from 8-10 p.m., which was 27 percent below two-hours of year-ago occupant “The X Factor” (3.7/ 6 on 12/11/13). And the weak midweek link on The CW remains “The 100” (#5: 1.1/ 2 at 9 p.m.), which slipped by 48 percent from the 2.1/ 3 (#5) for lead-in “Arrow.”

So can't even imagine in what this will translate for the CW shows. Especially Arrow!
ReplyDeleteHoping it to be over 1,1.
the arrow was absolutely mind blowing!!!
ReplyDeleteIt deserves an all time high rating for this episode!
Seems like The Middle really rebounded. The Goldbergs too.
ReplyDeletehope Arrow stays above 1.0!!!
ReplyDeleteTHIS!!!
ReplyDeleteThat HH rating doesn't look good for The 100 but HH ratings are fairly unreliable. I just hope it stays at 0.6 and gets at least 0.6 next week too.
ReplyDeleteThe 100 is pretty untouchable now and so is JTV. Reign is dead man walking
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say untouchable, it's certainly a lot safer but it depends on the mid-season shows too.
ReplyDeleteWhy would Jane be untouchable?
ReplyDeleteGolden Globe nomination. The CW has not seen one in nearly a decade.
ReplyDeleteBecause of the golden Globe nomination, i assume
ReplyDeleteyou got it.
ReplyDeleteOh, i see it now :)
ReplyDeleteAs a big fan of Jane, it makes me very happy
But as a huge fan of Reign, it makes me kinda disappointed
The 100 and JTV represent the change in The CW. They are both mature dramas that have been so highly praised compared to the red headed step child (Reign) that they will most likely survive. Reign can only go down from here, the other two will surely rise.
ReplyDeleteSorry but Reign has the smallest of chances. It may get a 13 ep order for summer if BATB is truly dead
ReplyDeleteStalker seems low like last week,,,Sad =(
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't make the virgin untouchable.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're right, I just hope The 100 doesn't break it's upward trend (especially next week with no Arrow, I hope it prove itself again like it did last season with no Arrow)
ReplyDeletewhy not? It will be a nice little thing to take into The CW's tribune meeting instead of "Yeah..we have this um drama on Thursdays called Reign...uh yeah...." they can be like " We have this fantastic Golden Globe nominated (maybe winner) show called Jane The Virgin with fairly respectable ratings (well better than Reigns and its cheaper too)"
ReplyDeleteDoesn't mean its untouchable
ReplyDeleteI love STV. I do not love Marc Berman. I, in fact, would like to dip his typing fingers in superglue.
ReplyDeleteI surely wouldn't say its untouchable. If it drops hard to 0,3s it's pretty much doomed, even 0,4s will be tough for it to pull a season 2. It aired just 8 eps and it has a long way to go.
ReplyDeleteSo everyones suggesting that they keep low rated Reign that offers them no advantages at all?
ReplyDeleteIt is closer to syndication.
ReplyDeleteThis nomination might be huge, and if ratings will increase from now on, they will definitely renew Jane, but if it falls to 0.3 in spring in its first season, i do not think even GG nom can save it.
Reign already has an advantage for being in it's second season. I just say if JTV drops to lower numbers it's more likely for them to renew Reign. At this moment JTV probably has the slim advantage but it's too early in the season to tell. TTP last season was also this solid in 2013 but dropped later in spring 2014.
ReplyDeleteThe 100 has to get .6. Last night's ep was great
ReplyDelete3x05 was 1.1 with a HH rating of 2.1
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info. So we are there around those number. Thing this is good retention! From last week. But let's see maybe it even translates to bigger numbers.
ReplyDeleteWould someone get Marc to shut up about The 100 already?
ReplyDeleteIt's much safer than some of the shows on the CW.
Arrow - 1.0/1.1
ReplyDeleteThe 100 - 0.66/0.5
He just wants it to fail so his precious JTV will look safer.
ReplyDeleteI hope Arrow adjusts up later today.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping it can match it.
ReplyDeleteMore than one show is likely to be cancelled, so I agree that it depends on the mid-season shows.
ReplyDeleteArrow not on the winner list??
ReplyDeleteArrow deserves high numbers like the flash, and i have to say everyone who doesn't watch the Arrow is a weirdo.
ReplyDeleteSame I could say for The 100
ReplyDeleteI do hope you are right...I tried watching Reign again but it is not my type of show. First was nice kinda but second...no way.
ReplyDeleteYou know Marc is very biased against shows with bad retention.
ReplyDeleteWait did Middle beat Goldbergs and ackish in hh? That doesn't usually happen right?
ReplyDeleteThe Middle always beat The Goldbergs in HH and viewers. The Goldbergs builds on it in the demo.
ReplyDeleteBy that much?
ReplyDeleteI feel like The Goldbergs' demo is that of 80s kids and their children. The Middle probably has a similar demo just with slightly older people. I think it attracts people just older and just younger in the demo. I'm kind of hoping that the kids that started watching S1 when they were 12 turn 18 and give it a demo spike :)
That does seem like the biggest margin yet. Last week it was by 4 tenths. This week by 8 tenths. The Goldbergs maybe should have done a Hannukkah episode.
ReplyDeleteThe should cancel all the non-DC comic shows on CW (meaning everything but Arrow and Flash)...then, CW should pick the "in limbo" Constantine...and then create six more DC Comic TV shows (all helmed by those helming Arrow-Flash) and change the name "CW" into "DC UNIVERSE NETWORK...meaning, go all in with DC...
ReplyDeleteSo does higher HH mean more families are watching I stead of individual people? Can someone explain? Thanks
ReplyDeleteArrow was amazing! Here hoping for a 1.1 on the demo... A 1.2 would be asking too much, but c'mon! The episode was amazing!
ReplyDeletePeople talk a lot about The 100... I might end up watching what's all the fuzz about.
Eh, not many people I know are Jewish but they could have pulled it off.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if ABC will be repeating comedy Christmas specials on Christmas Eve/Day this year
lol
ReplyDeleteMarc really loves Survivor
ReplyDeleteI just hope that the nomination will not backfire in The 100. Somehow I have my doubts that it is a good sign for the show
ReplyDeletehttp://maithaidiaries.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/05f.jpeg
ReplyDeleteReign is closer to syndication and not a genre show( either is Jane)& CW dosent want all genre shows. If Jane falls in ratings in spring,it won't be untouchable.Critcal acclaim most of the time dosent bring great ratings nor rise in ratings,Janes already been below a million Viewrs once in episodes six, that's not good.Reign may be renewed for a short 13 episode final season as you said but Jane, athe 100 wiint be renewed over it.Reign will still be renewed.Gina & Jane may not even win,the 100,TO,Nikita all were nominated for Emmys but none won.
ReplyDeleteJTV has gotten two 0.5's and a 0.6 and the rest 0.4's in its first season in fall.
ReplyDeleteReign has hit two 0.5's one 0.3 and the rest 0.4 in season 2....
This time last year, Reign was hitting consistant 0.6/0.7.
Jane has never hit 0.7
HH indicates number of households watching a particular show without the demos separated out.
ReplyDeleteIt's a really great show, one of my favourites! You should definitely try it :)
ReplyDeleteYou should watch The 100. Its a completely serialized post apocalyptic story. Season 1 was great. Season 2 is simply awesome. Fast paced story telling and great action. Some great adult characters too. You will like it.. I always wonder why most Arrow viewers don't watch the 100?
ReplyDeleteLOL
ReplyDeletehttps://31.media.tumblr.com/ff66a927ce9b9fd6e5a02be1110bd633/tumblr_inline_n96ivq063L1ruqnkn.gif
It is really worth to watch! At least give it a try
ReplyDeleteOh ok. Thanks
ReplyDeleteWhy is on the table "The Arrow" instead of just "Arrow"?
ReplyDeleteTypo or something
ReplyDeleteArrow 1.0 (half hours 1.1/1.0)
ReplyDeleteThe 100 0.6 (half hours 0.6/0.6)
any preemptions?
ReplyDeleteseriously 1.0 for arrow doesn't deserve those rating it should have been like 1.4-1.5
ReplyDeleteRatings are now in the table
ReplyDeleteThe 100 better not adjust down!
ReplyDeleteArrow is above 1! Well deserved!
ReplyDeleteAnd good for The 100 remaining steady! I hope it doesn't adjust down.
I bet it will do a 0.6/0.5 next week without Arrow lead in, which shows that it is stable on its own
And just like that mysteries of Laura went from being bubble show
ReplyDeleteYes it's does. CW will never cancel a show who had a golden globes nomination.
ReplyDeleteLooks like ABC comedies have rebounded
ReplyDeleteWhat did it get? My table doesn't want to work
ReplyDeleteI don't want to read his mini-recaps every week.
ReplyDeleteEspecially The Middle. The little workhorse.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I wonder if MF will adjust up to a 3.1
So glad to see The Middle back to 2s :)
ReplyDeleteOuch blackish
ReplyDeleteOuch? Why? Is still doing a lot better than any other show that followed MF.
ReplyDeleteIts at a 3,1 now , you mean 3,2?
ReplyDeleteand yup The Middle keeps going
theres no way abc is breaking this line up yet
The 100 better not adjust down! And I hope Arrow goes up.
ReplyDeleteStalker is a goner.
ReplyDeleteHeck its doing better than any comedy on CBS (minus TBBT and maybe Moms), NBC, and FOX
ReplyDeleteI think this is the 1st time Goldbergs has beaten Black-ish in total viewers. It will beat Black-ish in the demo pretty soon.
ReplyDeleteRough night for NBC
ReplyDeleteOff night for NBC. I'm sure SVU and Chicago PD will bounce back even if a little, but Laura seems like it will stay at that rating or go lower
ReplyDeleteAnother bad night for NBC... And I was expecting a little more for Arrow, something around 1.1-1.2, but that's good too.
ReplyDelete1.2
ReplyDeleteFOX's Brooklyn Nine Nine sometimes does better, though it is mostly because of its Simpsons lead in
ReplyDeleteSVU/PD tend to go up and down
ReplyDeleteThey are a real rollercosters, but thankfully for NBC, they never go down too much (below 1.3, that is)
ReplyDeleteSo now, ABC is also winning the 10pm timeslot on Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm surprised Arrow isn't higher (mid-season finale + crossover residual). But it could still adjust up to a 1.1 at least.
ReplyDeleteyup but I have no long SVU is going to keep going (I can't see more than 2-3)
ReplyDeleteFirst time this season. It is actually really impressive how steady Nashville is. It hasn't moved from that 1.5-1.4 this season
ReplyDeletevery steady (hopefully it can continue next season when it likely moves)
ReplyDeleteBig drop from a compatible leadin and Middle and Goldbergs could have easily beaten it with that time slot. I'm not hating, my point is just that it would go sub-2 without Modern Family
ReplyDeleteI still think there's a tiny chance it'll be renewed for Fridays, it doesn't look too expensive (cheaper than SofA, that's for sure) and has been steady so far.
ReplyDeleteGood for the 100
ReplyDeleteI love how The Goldbergs had improved this season. Shield didnt help it last season.
ReplyDeleteGreat for Arrow and that 1.0. The 100 steady on 0.6. Im happy bout it
Really sad for Stalker... Now, it's cancelled for sure....
ReplyDeleteArrow's most watched episode of the season! An adjustment up to 1.1 seems really likely!
ReplyDeleteI was expecting Arrow to be 1+. Guess the Flash fans didn't stick around. Might adjust up.
ReplyDeleteThe Middle 100% rebounded from last week. Fantastic!
ReplyDeletenow? It happened once lol. Embarrassing.
ReplyDeleteI'm not completely sure. The nomination is a huge boost since The CW has never had a show nominated for Best Comdey or Best Performance, this may change everything since Jane's ratings are not the bottom of the barrel (at least not yet). I think this gives CW some incentive to keep it around.... it doesn't make it untouchable, but it does boost its chances in a way
ReplyDeleteWhile scrolling down I read 0.4. I thought 'The 100 got 0.4? please, no, it can't be real'. Luckily it's the 18-34 rating, not the 18-49 one :)
ReplyDeleteNever gonna happen.First WB soley owns &produces DC shoes and CW is a joint venture.Second,Pedowitz has said last Jan &in OCzt that CW has too many genre shows&they dont wanna be all genre all the time.Thid,Jane got two GG nims &Czw biggest affilites _Tribunes_support
ReplyDeleteCW will cancel The 10 which is exspensive in favor of cheaper shows that are critically acclaimed or halfway to syndication-Jane & Reign.
ReplyDeleteNot even close. It's performing way better than the terrible numbers Hostages did. I'm not saying it's a definite to be saved, however, it certainly isn't destined for cancellation. Couldn't be farther from the truth.
ReplyDeleteThe show did fine airing by itself this past summer, so I don't see any reason why it would collapse now.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, if it's already doing a 1.2, it'll be below a 1.0 come spring. If it makes it to renewal from there, a Friday switch would have it even lower.
ReplyDeleteIt's the lowest show on the WB totem pole, so it's in at least some danger.
ReplyDeleteYou are so bitter about Reign. Didn't you watch the show until a couple of weeks ago? You ARE aware that the show didn't rape YOU, right? Pathetic.
ReplyDeleteThe fact it didn't get a full season -only 20 episodes- and not all those air in regular season and it got beat this week by a third season show-Nashville-& dosent have another edge like Mzs bringing wealthy Viewrs and it's owned by WB not CBzs,Staljer is certain to be cancelled
ReplyDeleteTrue and great point.
ReplyDeleteseems like crossover with flash has helped arrow.
ReplyDeleteI really don't think it would do much worse than Dracula and Constantine (or any other horror show NBC would try to put after Grimm) and serve as a low rated spackle option for the network. Something around 0.9-1.0 should be enough there. But they need to try it on Fridays this season, before any decisions.
ReplyDeleteThe 100 retained 0.6.. I am glad.. I hope we will get a 0.7 soon. Arrow 1.0.. I expected something over one.. Still good enough
ReplyDeleteIt's the second lowest rated currently airing and it went below a million Viewrs in episode six, that's bottom of the barell
ReplyDeleteI think Reign and its 0.3 in the demo is the bottom of the barrel
ReplyDeleteTrue. But Reign and Jane are virtually tied for CWs lowest rated show so Jane is at the bottom of the barrel( at least til HoD/BatB return).
ReplyDeleteCW is a joint effort between C (CBS) and W (Warner Bros) which are part of the same media distributer (along with Showtime and TNT ect)...Warner's will not want there to be a perceived flop, so I think there is a very good chance it will pick up Constantine...think of it this way; CW is a Warner Property, thus they Pedowitz can say all he wants, but his paycheck comes from higher-ups...
ReplyDelete
