Rating/Share
CBS 6.1/10
NBC 4.5/ 7
ABC 3.3/ 5
Fox 2.8/ 4
CW 2.4/ 4
-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Tuesday 12/10/13:
CW: +300, ABC: + 6, Fox: -12, NBC: -24, CBS: -34
———-
Note: The following labels are based on the household overnights and are subject to change given the availability of other pending data streams. These overnights are your first look at the ratings and a precursor to what could lie ahead. And we take into account other benchmarks including the expected demographic ratings, potential DVR usage, the critical acclaim (or lack of) and the social media presence.
-Winners:
‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” R (CBS), “The Voice” (NBC), “The Flash” (CW), “NCIS” R (CBS), “Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show” (CBS)
-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Marry Me” (NBC), “New Girl” (Fox), “About a Boy” (NBC), “The Mindy Project” (Fox), NBC News: “Angelina Jolie: Unbroken” (NBC)
———-
Ratings Breakdown:
Note: The 10 p.m. hour last night featured the series-finale of drama “Sons of Anarchy” on FX.
CBS led the overnight Tuesday troops with its atypical line-up of annual animated holiday special “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” (#2: 5.9 rating/9 share), a 9 p.m. encore telecast of “NCIS” (#1: 6.5/10), and annual “The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show” (#1: 5.8/10). Comparably, beloved “Rudolph” tied its year-ago telecast in the hour (on 11/26/13), and that translated into 11.30 million viewers and a 3.0 rating/9 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live Plus Same Day data (which should be enough to beat NBC’s competing “The Voice” in the demo). “The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show” was also on par from one year earlier (on 12/10/13), and that 5.8 in the overnights translated into 9.72 million viewers and a 3.4/10 in the demo.
Over at NBC, “The Voice” was solid (and dominant) at a 7.3/11 in the household overnights at 8 p.m. But 9-10 p.m. Peacock net comedies “Marry Me” (#3: 3.3/ 5) and sophomore “About a Boy” (#3: 2.7/ 4) continued to squander the lead-in support. And a 10 p.m. NBC News special, “Angelina Jolie: Unbroken,” scored an unimpressive (and last place) 3.3/ 6.
Most improved for the night remained The CW care of bona fide freshman hit “The Flash” (#4: 3.1/ 5 at 8 p.m.), which managed to increase by one-tenth of a rating point (or three percent) from the cross-over with “Arrow” last week, and veteran “Supernatural” (#5: 1.7/ 3 at 9 p.m.).
Elsewhere, an encore of ABC animated special “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” (#5: 2.8/ 4 at 8 p.m.) led into a second-place 3.5/ 5 for “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” at 9 p.m., which should be enough to get some traction in the key young adult demos. But a 3.7/ 6 (#2) for freshman drama “Forever” at 10 p.m., which is a slight improvement, will only likely translate into a 1.2 (or a 1.3) rating among adults 18-49.
Fox, meanwhile, has wisely plugged up the troubled Tuesday 8 p.m. hour with young adult demo friendly “MasterChef Junior” (#3: 3.5/ 5). But the 9-10 p.m. comedy pairing of “New Girl” (#4: 2.4/ 4) and “The Mindy Project” (#4: 1.9/ 3) just do not resonate. A fourth season of “The Mindy Project,” however, is likely because of the need for more episodes in off-network.

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.
Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above (We also where possible now post the 18-34 and 25-54 Demo Numbers).
Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. Go The FLash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow at The Flash rising from the crossover! Let's see how it does in the demos, but it's looking positive so far!
ReplyDeleteThe Flash rose again in the overnights! Interesting! Hopefully Arrow will do well tonight.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the final numbers and PLL's rating.
is there hope for Forever?
ReplyDeleteno.
ReplyDeleteI was happy that Supernatural seemed to have risen, then i remembered that The Flash over ran by 2 minutes.
ReplyDeleteI'm so much more interested in the ratings and viewership numbers for Sons of Anarchy to be honest.
ReplyDeleteThe Flash clearly gained more Arrow viewers after the crossover. Hope the same happens with Arrow.
ReplyDeleteReally? Rats. I'm just hoping for a 1.0 in the finals.
ReplyDeleteThose HH are confusing then it comes to SPN. It seems like SPN has same viewership at the end with 1.7 or 1.5 HH, and 1.5 HH can be anything from 2.0 mil to 2.4mil ( which is big difference for CW shows).2 min overrun means its going to adjust down in the finals :(
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for Supernatural.
ReplyDeleteDoes well as a Tuesday night show. Especially in that time slot on ABC. Plus it's got a full season...
ReplyDeleteits been doing lows 1s and its in season 1- its a goner
ReplyDeleteIf the flash ever does that it won't be the first cw show to reach a series high after the pilot, arrow just did that last week
ReplyDeletei think if both the flash and arrow were on a main network they would posiisly double in viewers
ReplyDeleteSupernatural hit a series high in Episode 1.13.
ReplyDeleteArrow hit a series high last week.
Hart of Dixie hit a series high in 1.09
I'm curious is to how the holiday episodes of Chasing Life and PLL did. I'm hoping for a .06 for CL, awesome episode last night. PLL I don't really care cause its already renewed for 2 more seasons.. but I bet around a .08 .09 but I don't know. It wasn't a baf episode though.
ReplyDeleteThe Flash may hit a 1.7 or higher :D!
ReplyDeleteYes thats true but Supernatural aired on WB at that time. But Yes your right about Hart of Dixie and Arrow (but Arrow got a high with the demo but not viewers). So I guess HOD is the only real one to actually do it with demo and viewers, but I'm probably wrong there's other shows out there.
ReplyDeleteSorry I wasn't clear.
I hope so too! It would be so nice to see Arrow constantly doing 1.3-1.2s! I would even dream of a 1.5 which would be utterly awesome!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, can't wait for tonight's midseason finale!
No worries.
ReplyDeleteYou can use the Ratings Database to see all historical ratings
http://www.stvplus.com
We won't get the Cable ratings for about 6 hrs. They will posted on the site as soon as they are released.
ReplyDeleteWOW, The Flash!!! Looks like the crossover with Arrow really helped it!
ReplyDeleteThe increse help boost SPN again too, shame the SPN episode was crap.
ReplyDelete1.0 for mid season finale would be great for SPN, esp when the season so far has been poor and people would have tuned in hoping for a good episode leading to a better second half of the season. I guess if you're a Dean or Cas fan you're happy.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I'd love that, I think Arrow will have a harder time holding Flash viewers than the other way around. A person isn't going to be that phased about catching up on 7 episodes to be up to date on The Flash, 2 and a bit seasons of Arrow on the other hand could be a bit harder. It's definitely a possibility though, and if it does keep a lot of them than that reason makes it even more impressive.
ReplyDeleteits improvement over what ABC had in the timeslot last year but it isn't doing well.
ReplyDeleteWOW 1.5! That would be a dream come true! Plz don't make me hope, I don't want to get disappointed.
ReplyDeleteMe too. I'm sure it will be awesome! They know the stakes are high, midseason finale, sweeps, the big fight with Ra's and it's right after the awesome crossover so they had to bring their A game to top that and to keep the viewers they gained from Flash.
The Flash - 1.6/1.7
ReplyDeleteSupernatural - 1.1/0.9
True, it would be harder to watch 2 and a half seasons than just watching 7 episodes and also Arrow viewers can like the lighter tone of Flash but not not every Flash viewer could be into how dark Arrow can be sometimes. That being said, there are people who stopped watching Arrow last season after the midseason finale, those are the ones that are most likely to start watching again, and as for new viewers they have the winter hiatus to catch up.
ReplyDeleteGreat Numbers for The Flash!SPN is looking good too!
ReplyDeleteDean was practically absent in this episode, it
ReplyDeletewas all about Cas and Clare.
Didn't know where else to post this: Why doesn't Netflix stream Smallville? They have other CW shows, and DC's Arrow and (later) Flash. I've got the dvd's but I'd love to stream it in HD, on the go.
ReplyDeleteNo Top 25???
ReplyDeleteWatch out now if you don't post them in exactly 6 hours you may get accused of click baiting.
ReplyDeleteFlash may increase, sweet! Maybe Arrow will do the same. I expect something over 1.0.
ReplyDeleteBut at least they hinted at Dean's storyline going forward
ReplyDeleteI think they will keep the mometum they gathered, and that viewers of Flash will likely want to follow (or catch up with) Arrow considering more crossovers are surely comming up in the future and that it seems that their shared universe will have a lot of importance for future storylines.
ReplyDeleteI suppose tomorrow Arrow ratings will be pretty good, over 1s for sure, that 1.5 may be too much to ask, but hey! I'm always pretty optimistic and I believe The Flash fans may give Arrow a chance :)
With DWTS 10th Anvviersary coming up
ReplyDeleteI think ABC might do
8:00- DWTS Results Show
8:30- Fresh off the Boat (given its being promoted as coming soon)
9-AOS
10- Forever
They are not always available, lately we've been on a hot streak and got to see them regularly, but that's not every day
ReplyDeleteRatings are now in the table.
ReplyDeleteTNT used to have the syndication rights but I don't think they air Smallville anymore. Maybe there's a conflict? I know Gilmore Girls (another WB show then CW show) was added recently to Netflix.
ReplyDeleteThe Flash will surely adjust up to a 1.6, tying the crossover. The show keeps delivering great ratings!
ReplyDeleteFlash :D I think the crossover and the fact Dr Zoom was going to appear helped the ratings raise.
ReplyDeleteNBC comedies are gone, Dang The Voice keeps hitting lows ouch!
ReplyDeleteForever is done too
I definitely think Flash will adjust up. It almost always adjusts up
ReplyDeleteThat and it was the winter finale.
ReplyDeleteNew Girl has been doing good numbers lately. That 1.5 in 18-3 is very valuable, growing on Master Chef. Maybe not the hit that once was, but it has managed to do good when it seemed done for at the end of last season
ReplyDeleteCW has a real hit on their hands- they should move supernatural and launch a new show
ReplyDeleteAllso I know viewers don't matter that much but 4.53 viewers is really great!
ReplyDeleteYep, just checked TNT, the run 2 eps of Smallville a day. Hope it lands on Netflix someday. Strange it hasn't.
ReplyDeleteEven TV can't save NBC Tuesdays
ReplyDeleteWow, people really love the angels.
ReplyDeleteI think ABC should consider
ReplyDelete8:00- DWTS Results Show
8:30- Fresh off the Boat
9:00- AOS
10- The Whispers
NBC main concern may be how low The Voice is doing; still pretty good for them (especially considering its 18-34), but it is certainly conserning
ReplyDeleteand Rudolph
ReplyDeletePeople are tried of singing shows...
ReplyDeleteAnd what did Angelina Jolie get?
ReplyDeletegood lord, supernatural can't defeat even mindy >_>
ReplyDeleteThough not really relevant, this was the second most watched Flash episode since the series premiere, surpassing the crossover. Quite impressive
ReplyDeleteYay Supernatural! I know I'm being really greedy but I want my show to stay at or above 1.0. Don't adjust down, don't adjust down!!!
ReplyDeleteHas it ever?
ReplyDeleteWhy should it? Its a 10 yr old show on the CW (plus its only a tenth behind)
ReplyDeleteOkay thanks!

Yay for The Flash and Shield! And it still amazes me every year how high ratings Rudolph gets! It's awesome!! Love the classics! But is sad that Santa Claus is coming to town is so low, don't why why they were on at the same time
ReplyDeleteSPN had a bad drop in viewership in half hour. Not that it matters.
ReplyDeleteover run from Flash so at the very least viewers are going to be stripped out, the second half numbers are still pretty high for SPN though. I'm suprised more people didnt tune out half way through.
ReplyDeleteThe Flash over ran.
ReplyDeleteI think it did last year.
ReplyDeletemm after looking at the have hours I don't think it will adjust up anymore. Still great for the Flash
ReplyDeleteAdjustments have nothing to do with half hours
ReplyDeleteFlash overran, so SPN might adjust down. But as long as it stays at 1.0 or higher, I'm happy.
ReplyDeleteAOS down but still better than other weeks before. Still safe
ReplyDeleteI really hope so. And your optimism is refreshing I'll join in :D
ReplyDeleteForever has 22, so unless they run it straight through and Whispers has a low enough episode count where it'd be done in season, I don't see this happening. I do like the idea of DWTS results + Fresh Off the Boat + SHIELD, though.
ReplyDeleteWell if you look at a lot of of TV atm..Most of them are mediocre compared to what ratings used to be like years ago. Still have hope for the series ☺
ReplyDeleteEven I had to flip back to Rudolph during commercials of "The Flash." It is such a classic and brings back happy memories :-)
ReplyDeleteI have no children but would have watched Rudolph in its entirety if it had aired on Thursday :-)
I don't understand how AoS dropped (1 tenth but still) after last week's episode and all the midseason finale buzz. Granted, its lead-in was half of last week's. Still, is it too much to ask that it hits 2.0 again, while NCIS: NO is even in repeats? Grrrr.
ReplyDeleteYessss
ReplyDeleteThink 1,3-1,2's are quite possible. Especially with Ra stepping into the light now. I mean he is an important character in the DC universe and could give the show the necessary boost. But again Mr Nable isn't someone who would draw some crowd, but maybe he'll surprise us.
ReplyDeleteIf the show keeps the momentum and develops well it could gain viewers.
Well ratings can be quite bad this time of year and like you said the leads last week were better but I hope the combination of Inhumans/Skye being a superhero plus S1 being on Netflix will encourage people to catch up and come March the ratings will rise.
ReplyDeleteWay to go Flash!!
ReplyDeleteAoS deserves a 2.0.. I am sad.. How cool was this week's episode.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I totally forgot about Flash overrunning...darn it.. :(
ReplyDeleteCome on Supernatural...don't drop below 1.0
While MAOS deserved something north of a 3.0 for the incredible episode they had last night, this is an okay level for it to be. Hopefully the spring ratings keep the stability or inch upwards a bit. Last night's episode truly was epic.
ReplyDeleteThe Flash also had an amazing midseason finale so I am happy with its fabulous and well deserved numbers!
Have you watched the episode yet? It's absolutely incredible, one of the most epic episodes ever.
ReplyDeleteFellow Rudolph lover here - and I also would have (re- zillionth) watched any day but Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteMe, neither. It might adjust down to 1.0 but I doubt 0.9.
ReplyDeleteSPN now performs independent of lead-in.
ReplyDeleteTNT does air SMV from I think 5-7am EST.
ReplyDeleteI watched and loved it, although honestly I wasn't as blown away as I expected to be. I think reading so much speculation online slightly ruined it for me because nothing really surprised me in this episode. Also, the 2 character deaths were, I felt, anticlimactic. That being said, the show is definitely in top form on the whole and I really hope for higher numbers when it's back in March.
ReplyDeleteI actually found the last 2 episodes more epic than this one, because I guess reading so much about the Inhumans and Skye's identity before the episode drained the surprise out of this one. Also, I think the 2 character deaths weren't as "big" as they should've been - they DID just kill off the Big Bad and a beloved member of the team. But overall, there's no doubt that the show is in top form. I hope positive word of mouth, Season 1 being on Netflix, and buzz from Agent Carter/Age of Ulyron/Daredevil will help the ratings in the second half of S2.
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing for The Flash! And AoS looks great too! So yay!!
ReplyDeleteThe Flash is powering through those ratings! Season 2 is looking pretty good!
ReplyDeleteI know, right? And "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" was on ABC. Two of my favorite Christmas specials. I wish they both aired on Thursday and at different times so I could enjoy both!
ReplyDeleteI like that one, too. Also "A Charlie Brown Christmas' (and "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" are also personal favorites!
ReplyDeletethank-you.
ReplyDeleteThat is the beauty of not reading any spoilers or interviews. I was so surprised at all the things that happened this episode. And that last tunnel scene was so beautifully shot and acted it took my breath away. I read too much about The Flash and Arrow mid season finale's it lost it's shine for me.
ReplyDeleteI agree Whitehall's death was so unceremonious... meh.. I would have loved to see Skye's dad go all Mr. Hyde on him. It reminded me of Garrett's death last season. I am still angry about that. I liked Tripp's death. Like Tommy Merlyn he did more with his death than being alive.. It will have far reaching consequences.
Good word of mouth will help the show. This show needs CW audience/fans. They will campaign so religiously for their shows on internet. Look at The 100. The show has a subtle but a significant growth in audience. I hope AoS will improve in ratings. At the beginning of this show only two characters I cared about was Coulson and May but now I am more interested in Skye, Ward, Fitz, Simmons and Raina more than anyone else. A show that can turn themselves around that much deserves all the praise.
I'm so obsessed with AoS atm that I'm reading pretty much anything I can find on the show. Unfortunately, it takes the surprise out of things. :( Since it's based on comics, a lot of people were able to more or less guess where things were going.
ReplyDeleteI still disagree with you about Garrett's death, I loved it because it was so funny, but yeah - Whitehall's was just lame. Skye's dad a.k.a. "Cal" should've gotten the chance to rip that sadistic creep into pieces after what he had done to his wife. Or at least, Skye should've buried him alive with her new powers. Something, anything cooler than just two bullets. Oh well, I hope the new villain in 2B is cool too.
The thing about Trip's death is, it accomplished nothing. Sure, he went down there to help a friend, but ultimately his attempt to help Skye was pointless - she wasn't going to die from the transformation anyway (which of course he didn't know). Whereas Tommy did save Laurel.
I do get it, beloved characters have to die sometimes to show us that the stakes are real (and in that case, they wanted to make it clear that while the Terregenesis gives "the worthy" powers, it is deadly to anyone else who gets in its way). However, I felt like Trip deserved a better, more heroic send-off. It seemed like he just wandered into the wrong place at the wrong time and got killed. His death didn't accomplish anything. Granted, it's realistic... most soldiers who die during war don't get a big heroic death, it just happens. But I feel that paying respects to a character most of the audience really liked (and who was pretty underused this season) should be more important than that.
Anyway... with Inhumans and Skye becoming a superhero, Season 1 being on Netflix, the positive buzz and reviews, plus Agent Carter, Age of Ultron (they've just confirmed a crossover) and Daredevil, hopefully AoS comes back strong in March. God, I don't even want to think what those 3 months are gonna be like. I'm probably going to watch Agent Carter, but it's no AoS.
I get spoiled only on Arrow and Flash. Arrow I hunt down every piece of news. So like you I am usually underwhelmed when I see an Arrow episode as the EPs there are experts in spoiling every scene of an episode.
ReplyDeleteWhen i comes to AoS I don't even watch the promos and I am not a comic book person especially Marvel. DC I at least know the characters. So this whole inhuman thing is a novelty for me. First thing I did after seeing this episode was googling Daisy and Marvel after this episode. LOL. It's really great watching an episode when you know nothing about it. The same with The 100 on cw. I am always surprised and shocked. But then again Jason Rothenberg knows how to not spoil your audience unnecessarily.
I am still not sure about the 3 month break decision. I hope it won't harm AoS. I will give Agent Carter a try but I am not a huge fan of period stories on small screens. I am excited for daredevil and all the other netflix Marvel shows coming up.
Oh my goodness . . . I LOVE "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer." That one is very cute! And the Charlie Brown one is another great classic!! Brings back great memories :-)
